Toners -Laura Mercier - Perfecting Water - Rich
rated 5 of 5
chanelmontes 9/19/2009 5:37:00 PM

I have dry skin and received a sample of this toner and just had to buy the full size. First off, I want to say that the "Rich" version is different from the "Light" version in that it's more of a light gel-ish texture. This is crucial for dry skin since it comfortably and more effectively hydrates the skin while also toning it. It feels very soothing on my skin making it more even toned and supple with each use. I use it most when I need to freshen up during the day since I live in very humid weather. I also love the pump packaging; it's very easy for me to get product onto a cotton ball. It's not cheap, but so far I have had nothing but wonderful experiences from Laura Mercier's skincare line so her products are definitely worth it.

Mascara -Bobbi Brown - Perfectly Defined Mascara
rated 1 of 5
chanelmontes 9/13/2009 7:19:00 PM

Took two days and a lot of eye makeup remover and cleansing oil to finally get this mascara off my lashes. What a pain. I was so uncomfortable with all the tugging I had to do around my eye area just to get this mascara completely off. I love a mascara that's long wearing, but geez if I want it off, I want it off. Not to mention, this mascara made my lashes crunchy. They didn't look natural and flexible at all. This is a horrible tubing mascara.

Eye Shadow -Bobbi Brown - Metallic Long-Wear Cream Shadow in Black Pearl
rated 5 of 5
chanelmontes 9/9/2009 10:57:00 PM

I purchased Black Pearl, which is a medium purple with sparkle and I absolutely love it. It's somewhat sheer, but I use it as a base on my lid so that's not a problem for me at all. I put BB Fawn e/s on top of Black Pearl and the sparkle from the Black Pearl shows through the pigmentation from Fawn leaving my eyes looking so glamorous yet wearable for daytime. This look definitely makes my brown eyes pop. Not to mention since I used Black Pearl as a base, I don't have a single crease all day even with very humid weather. So overall the look is gorgeous yet long wearing.

Styling Products -Aussie - Dual Personality Mousse plus Leave-In Conditioner
rated 5 of 5

I'm so happy to finally say that this is EXACTLY the type of hair product I've been looking for! It has taken me a few years but my search is over. My hair is thick and can get very frizzy after my hair dries so I was on the hunt for a very long time for a product to tame the frizz but also give my hair some style and shine. This product is a godsend. All I do is put some in my hair, let it air dry and my hair is absolutely fantastic for the rest of the day. I have two young kids so getting ready is always an obstacle to where I can't blow dry and style my hair for 2 hours anymore. This product enables me to not have to style my hair by making it looking so healthy, bouncy and shiny. I've tried many products (mostly high end) before picking this up but boy am I glad I purchased it. It does exactly what I need.

Concealers -Laura Mercier - Secret Concealer
rated 2 of 5
chanelmontes 9/3/2009 7:38:00 PM

This does a so-so job of concealing. Could definitely be a lot better. The big problem I have is that it's way too creamy therefore looking too shiny and greasy once applied. Even though I found a somewhat match with shade #2 (sometimes it seemed too yellow), I feel I could have gotten a better match with my skin tone if Laura Mercier offered more than 3 different shades. It seems most of her products don't have a decent shade range. This will not be a staple of mine.

Misc Beauty Tools -Trish McEvoy - Mini Planner
rated 4 of 5
chanelmontes 9/2/2009 3:49:00 PM

This is a beautiful yet practical beauty organizer. I have the deluxe black quilted mini planner that gives you an extra back zip compartment to store extras which is very crucial for me. I had the classic petite one and it just wasn't cutting it for me (way too small). The mini one is the absolute perfect size. Not too big and not too small. It fits everything I need to do a full face of makeup comfortably and still can include 10 brushes! I do use a lot of Trish McEvoy products so fitting them into the planner is very easy for me. The only problem I have is that I don't like her eye shadows and sometimes I have a little trouble fitting in the Bobbi Brown eye shadows I own that I love. I'm going to try depotting a few BB e/s and try putting them into the planner pages and see if that saves some room and fuss. Well, overall I absolutely love my mini planner. For using day to day or taking on a weekend trip, this planner is very efficient and also made very well. I also love that I can do my makeup in my livingroom while watching TV with no mess at all. I just bring my planner to my couch! It's just so pretty and I love feeling like a pampered girly girl every time I open it.

Eye Shadow -Bobbi Brown - Metallic Eye Shadow in Velvet Plum
rated 1 of 5
chanelmontes 8/28/2009 11:20:00 PM

This shade looked absolutely horrible with my brown eyes, brunette hair and fair-medium skintone. It made my eyes look sunken and sore. The color is just far too dark and ashy overall making it a pain to blend. Both times I tried applying it I had to take it off immediately. I can see this working more for women with darker skintones or someone with light colored eyes and hair.

Makeup Brushes -Trish McEvoy - #48 Blender/Highlighter Brush
rated 5 of 5
chanelmontes 8/28/2009 1:19:00 PM

This brush is versatile for when I'm on the go. I use it to apply Blush/Highlighter right on the apple of my cheeks. I also use it to apply loose powder on my face and it especially gets in the tight corners around my nose wonderfully. I also use it to buff down my eyeshadow during the day after it has creased. Finally, I use it to apply loose powder right underneath my eyes to set my concealer. This is a really fabulous brush overall and the quality is outstanding. It feels so soft and luxurious and never splays. Do purchase this brush if you're on the go and need a very functional versatile brush.

Eyeliner -Laura Mercier - Caviar in Midnight
rated 2 of 5
chanelmontes 8/14/2009 6:01:00 PM

The color is absolutely gorgeous, a very dark blue/black shade. However, I will not purchase this product again because it's very hard to use. I used it both wet and dry and just couldn't get any pigment/color for the life of me to line my lids. I even used 2 different brushes. I will stick to using Bobbi Brown shadows as my liner.

Eye Makeup Remover -L'Oreal - Refreshing Eye Make Up Remover
rated 1 of 5
chanelmontes 8/14/2009 12:26:00 AM

Cannot believe L'Oreal continues to make and sell this incredibly horrible product!!! This stung like crazy around my eyes to the point where I felt like I was going to get cysts underneath my eyes. Don't they test out products before officially selling them in the open market? What a joke this remover is. Besides the pain, it also didn't take off my eye makeup. I could have basically used pure acid on my eyelids and would have gotten the same effect. Do not buy this!

Mascara -L'Oreal - Double Extend Beauty Tubes Mascara in Black
rated 4 of 5
chanelmontes 8/13/2009 11:36:00 PM

This is a good mascara, especially for the price. The whole tubing concept should definitely get more recognition since it leaves your lashes and eye area 100% smudge and flake free. I switched over from a high end (Trish McEvoy) tubing mascara to this one because I wanted to save money and TM packaging always made an icky mess. This mascara is an adequate substitute. What I can say wrong about it is that sometimes it can make my lashes crunchy and the packaging is humongous; no need for it to be that bulky, but overall it performs pretty well by making my lashes look fuller and longer. If anything, just try this mascara because it's ridiculously easy to remove. All you need is warm water and the product comes off in sheaths. I'm a high end snob when it comes to beauty products but I am excited I finally gave a drugstore mascara a try.

Mascara -Trish McEvoy - Lash Curling Mascara
rated 3 of 5
chanelmontes 8/13/2009 10:57:00 PM

This was the first tubing mascara I purchased and I was immediately hooked to the concept. I want a 100% smudge-free mascara that comes off easily with warm water and all of Trish McEvoy's are exactly that. So it's performance is not an issue, but the price and packaging is. I'll force myself to pay $28 for a smudge and flake free mascara, but what I don't want is most of that money wasted due to product continously seeping out the tube whenever I unscrew it due to poor packaging. Product always gets on my fingers and all over the outside of the tube. I bought this one and also Trish's High Volume mascara and they both have the same problem. So for that I resorted to buying a drugstore tubing mascara (L'Oreal) and I'm quite happy with it. Not only am I saving a ton of money (now I don't feel guilty) but product never seeps out the tube and gets all over my fingers.

Palettes -Bobbi Brown - Nude Eye Palette
rated 5 of 5
chanelmontes 8/5/2009 8:33:00 PM

I already owned 3 other eye palettes from BB, but the colors were always not quite what I wanted. This palette, however, is EXACTLY the type of e/s palette I've been looking for. For instance, to start off the palette I need an overall matte base color, so in this palette Navajo is that shade. I also wanted a silvery brown color to use for evening and there is Pebble Metallic for that. I also wanted a beautiful champagne/brown color, and so Beige Linen Shimmerwash is absolute perfection for that. I definitely needed the perfect matte medium brownish e/s shade and Chino is exactly that. I also wanted a brown/bronze shimmery shade and can I just tell you how absolutely gorgeous Maple Sugar Metallic is! Finally, I needed a liner shade to complete my palette but am very tired of the same boring Mohogany and Espresso e/s I keep getting in my BB palettes. So here arrives Caviar which is darker, almost black but has some brown to it. Different shade of liner solved! Oh I'm so glad I finally found the perfect palette to take with me anywhere I go to complete any look I desire whether it being matte, bronzy or an evening look. My favorite look, however, is wearing 5 out of the 6 e/s shades by using Navajo as a base, Beige Linen on the inner corner of my lid, Maple Sugar all over the rest of my lid, Chino in the crease and Caviar as the liner. This look is absolutely sexy and gorgeous!

Liquid -Trish McEvoy - Treatment Foundation
rated 5 of 5
chanelmontes 5/22/2009 11:37:00 PM

To me, this doesn't seem like a standard foundation, but rather a tad step up from a tinted moisturizer. It glides on my skin beautifully and absorbs and blends like a dream. No fuss like with other foundations from other brands I've used. I didn't want to try this because I thought it would just be a regular foundation ultimately giving me an unnatural and mask-like look, but after I put some on after getting a sample I was immediately hooked. My skin looked so even toned and flawless yet at the same time very natural like I wasn't wearing anything at all. I also love that it has antioxidants to help with anti-aging and even green tea to help in calming the skin. I've noticed that my complexion is looking a lot better with each use, which is the opposite of what happens when I use a liquid foundation everyday. Just make sure to just use a pea size amount and use your fingers to blend if you want a natural look. I went to a Trish McEvoy event and the MA put so much on me with a foundation brush that I looked absolutely horrible. I still haven't bought a full bottle as I believe it's way too expensive, so I've been lucky to acquire a few deluxe samples that will hold me over for a while. If you want a fabulous product that will give you the "your skin but better" look you definitely need to try this. Just make sure to get a sample first.

Misc Beauty Tools -Laura Mercier - Velour Puff
rated 5 of 5
chanelmontes 5/22/2009 12:04:00 AM

When I saw Laura Mercier herself on QVC saying that using a velour puff to apply loose powder was better than a brush, I immediately thought she was crazy. Then after realizing that sometimes the loose powder I applied on my face would just sit on top of my skin, I decided to purchase this to see the big difference Laura Mercier was talking about. Let me just say a billion times that she was absolutely right! Wow what a difference. This puff helps you to actually dab and push the loose powder onto your skin so it blends in so nicely to where it's not noticeable at all. My face looks so natural now and I'm never insecure about powder being visible on my face. If you use loose powder you definitely have to use this instead of a powder brush, and be sure to buy Laura Mercier's because the quality of her puff is outstanding and feels luxurious.
