I bought this at my local Rite Aid which, to be honest, doesn't have the most traffic. Perhaps that's why, but this stuff stinks- literally. It smells, at first, like the typical, really fruity Biore scent, which I'm not fan of at all in the first place. Then, like the undertones of Ivory soap, murky and plastic-y. It smells like what I would imagine an old bar of soap, left out to dry smells like. But I didn't notice this until I was working up a lather. I held my breath and continued. The results? My skin looked and felt like I just used a plain old bar of soap to wash it. It was dry and tight, not glowing, just dull, dull, dull. I stuck it out and tried it a few more times but prospects aren't better. I just use it on my feet now when I get a bit patchy on my heels. Smells like it belongs there, too. I would have considered sticking it out through the smell if it worked, but it didn't. It was $6 wasted that I could have spent on ten generic soap bars which deliver the same lackluster results.
Makeup Brushes -Ecotools - Bamboo Angled Eyeliner Brush
captainflamingo 12/12/2010 1:32:00 PM
I recently lost this and I need to get it again! It gave me perfect control and held the most perfect amount of liner for a sharp, winged look. The only gripe is that the handle is quite long, it gets awkward to use close to the mirror, which I need as I am nearsighted.
My local Walgreens had a sale on this, I got it for $7 instead of the normal $10-$11. It's more of a 3.5, not a 4.The formula is nice, not to thin but not too thick, the rubber brush itself gives me even, separating coating over my lashes. My lashes overall looked a lot thicker, quite longer, but not very volumized. I have straight, short lashes that kind of fold at the bottom so volumizing is difficult, though. Slight clumping, even after combing through. Length fades throughout the day and leads to flaking by the fifth hour, but I've seen worse. I've used it both with and without the vibrations and it doesn't seem to do much, other than add a slight bit more separation. It's a decent mascara, I'd buy it again if it was on sale again but I won't be heartbroken if it was DCed or whatnot.
Lotions/ Creams -The Body Shop - Moringa Body Butter
captainflamingo 11/11/2010 8:47:00 PM
Twenty dollars is a lot for a body butter, so I'm not sure if I really would repurchase once I run out(the tub is quite big) but I am in love with this product. It absorbs quick but is more a rich lotion than a body butter. In other words, I've had richer. But then again, this isn't like the coconut one, it's meant for normal skin(which is what I have), so it delivers what it promised. It's simply not for the ones who want ultra luxurious moisture. I took a whiff of this and I was instantly in love. I wish they made a fragrance like this! Thea aroma is seriously like being in the middle of a blooming flower field, though it is quite short-lived. It wears off on my skin in a couple hours.
Top/Base Coats -Sinful - Sinful Colors Professional Basecoat
captainflamingo 11/10/2010 1:07:00 AM
I usually use this base coat because it gets the job done. It doesn't stain my nails and provides a smoother surface. I change my nail color every couple of days so I can't speak for its lasting effects because I wouldn't know whether it's the polish, the top coat, or this product that's helping. It's only $3 at Walgreens full price so I'll repurchase since I don't really want to spend a lot on nail polish I remove every few days.
I bought this last night in Blackest Black and I LOVE it. I'm Asian and I have short lashes, though they're a bit curly and thick enough. These lashes gave me so much length, held a curl and thickened them so much! On top of that, it is really black! I love love love it. The wand is plastic and comb-y, which I don't like, but it works on this wet formula. It's really comparable to my Clinique High Impact Curling mascara with a different wand and no super glue formula that I can't get off. Though it has slight flaking, Glam'Eyes stays put but is removed when I want it to. Overall, it's kind of wet but cheap and really lengthening. It was about $6 which is really good for a mascara. I'll definitely repurchase, I want the gold one, too!
Blush -MAC - Mineralize Blush Duo - Light Over Dark (Grand Duos coll.)
captainflamingo 11/2/2010 2:37:00 AM
Picked this up at my local CCO today where it was about $16. I love brushing it on my cheekbones or accentuation and a nice flush. I'm an NC40 and this product makes me feel like a golden goddess! Definitely shimmery, but not glittery. I swirl a flat kabuki in both sides, tap, apply, and then just set with some spray because it doesn't last as long as some of my other blushes.
Concealers -Maybelline - Mineral Power Natural Perfecting Concealer
captainflamingo 10/31/2010 8:09:00 PM
I love the natural, non-heavy feel to this product, yet how it gives full coverage. I got it in the Dark-Latte 3 and it was still too light for my NC40 skin, but suitable for the winter and under-eye coverage. I got it for around $4 at Ulta(clearance) so I don't regret it but I will not repurchase, either.
I got this mascara accidentally for a friend but she wanted the plain old High Impact so I kept it. I do like the length and the decent thickness it provides- along with the intense black. However, sometimes I pull my wand out and see a thin STRING of dried-like glue substance. It's latex-y and that kind of grosses me out. It is a pain to remove- that is, with remover. It does remove better with warm water like they say, but personally going to get warm water is a hassle of a step when I have other mascaras that come off with just remover. It does kind of stick my lashes together, though. If I'm not careful, I'll end up with three long lashes! The trick, I learn, is to go a bit zig zag and use the curving side. The tube is plentiful, but I will not repurchase because it doesn't fit all my needs.
Eyeliner -Rimmel - Spark It Up! Gleaming Eye Darkening Liner in Black Gold
captainflamingo 10/30/2010 6:06:00 PM
This product with a green-black with golden shimmer in it. Very sultry and smoky. I love using this instead of my black when I'm doing more bronzey or golden looks because it's less severe and ties it all in together. It lasts well enough over shadow(powder) but on its own, with no base, it smudges and seemingly evaporates. I will repurchase because of its unique shade and gorgeous color. I also love it as a lighter base. Primer, a smudge of this pencil, and a shimmery dark shadow and voila!
I said I would buy again but perhaps in a different color. This color is Orgasm: Brick Red edition. A little dab blended still leaves me with cherry red cheeks which I do adore but have found to be overwhelming. I have to use a very light hand and tone down my eyes if I want to use this. I do love the smooth texture and the way it flawlessly blends but I kind of regret making this my first NARS blush. I'll definitely start a collection, though.
Mascara -L'Oreal - Telescopic Explosion Waterproof
captainflamingo 10/23/2010 11:41:00 PM
I bought this because I was curious about the wand. The wand itself is decent, except after ONE swipe on what, a quarter of my lashes, I have to put it back in fore more formula. It doesn't grab a lot of formula at all. And by then, the mascara is already almost hard. The formula doesn't do much, I just reserve it for my outer lashes that kind of fold into my lid.
Cleansers -St. Ives - Naturally Clear Green Tea Cleanser
captainflamingo 10/5/2010 11:19:00 PM
I bought this for about $5 and it comes with quite a lot- so it was a good deal. It has 2% salicylic acid, but didn't do anything for my skin. It's not that it's too gentle because it's quite drying. I don't have severe acne at all but I like using medicated products a few times a week to keep my skin at bay, but this doesn't control anything, nor does it prevent my occasional break outs. It has a pleasant scent, but it's really strong and I'm weird about my skin care products smelling strong because that means more fragrance which doesn't do my any good. If it works for you, it's a great deal, but it simply did not for me.
Although most people seemed to use these as their "going out" pair, I just thinly line my eyes, put these on, and swipe blush and walk out the door! They're curled a bit more toward the roots so they open your eyes really well but kind of cover them at the same time in a sultry way, if that makes sense. I love them, they're my favorite pair by Ardell.
I personally love pot packaging because I can control the amount perfectly, so 5 on packaging. Heavy on the wallet since it is NARS. Loved the color. It looks hot Barbie pink but goes on a nice, rosy glaze. Lasts forever, great shiner, lovely shimmer.... But I can't keep it on my lips without throwing up. Disgusting smell and taste, like burnt plastic. Such a bummer.
