Eye Shadow -L'Oreal - ColorAppeal TrioPro
cadbury 5/1/2008 6:01:00 AM
I also have this in platinum rose, which has a separate listing. This review is for the trio for hazel eyes, Honey Brown. It consists of three shades. The gold highlighter I have used most often. It is a pale gold with a cooler shimmer. The taupe shadow is actually quite hard, not soft like the other colors. It is also sheer. I occasionally use it as a wash. The dark brown is chocolate colored in the pan, with gold shimmer. I use it occasionally also. I have brown eyes, and actually use the platinum rose trio more often. This trio is alright, but nothing amazing. I wouldn't repurchase.

Eye Shadow -L'Oreal - Colorappeal TrioPro in Platinum Rose
cadbury 5/1/2008 5:55:00 AM
As the previous reviewer mentioned, this is intended for grey eyes. On the case, it is also signed by Laetitia Casta. I have brown eyes. There are three colors, an eyeshadow duo and highlighter. The highlight shade is light pink, which I use quite often on my brow bone or corner of my eye. It has nice, fine shimmer. The second color is a very sheer silver in the pan. It is not like other silvers I have, as it seems to be mixed with taupe. Looking at it on my hand next to the other two shades, it has a fine golden toned shimmer, very subtle. It is a nice shade for a wash. It is the least pigmented. The last shade is a purple that is the most pigmented out of the three shadows. I actually use this the least. I think the reason is it is quite reflective when it is on.. but it is a very pretty color and I haven't given it many tries, so I am not passing negative judgment on it. I also have another trio in brown, taupe and gold - I use this one more often. I got this as a gift. I chose Yes for Buy Again, but in truth I am happy to have it, and use it, but if it finished I don't know if I would buy it.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Volume Shocking Mascara [DISCONTINUED]
cadbury 5/1/2008 5:43:00 AM
Reading the reviews just now, I was thinking "what is this comb everyone is talking about?" because mine just has two normal wands. Either I have an old version or a different version. This came from the UK if that is any help. It is called Volume Shocking Exact Brush Two Step Defined Volume Mascara in Carbon Black. It is the same shape as the pictures, but one side is not black, the whole thing is muted bronze. Anyway, onto the review. I have long, curled lashes, so I use mascara sparingly. I use non-waterproof, because I remember my lashes fell out from Maybelline's waterproof Volume mascara. I got this mascara as a gift, but I am aware of the price of L'oreal mascaras so marked my rating accordingly. The first two times I used this, I reminded myself to come check MUA so I would know how NOT to make my lashes grey! lol. I actually went out twice with it on, and when I got home I noticed my lashes were a bit grey - it's not hugely noticeable if you aren't observant, because its a dark grey... but it is definitely not the normal black of mascara. I like the primer, I found it kept my lashes exactly as they were, i.e. if they were perfectly separated, they stayed that way. I found the black side of the mascara very liquidy. This may sound strange, as mascaras are of course, liquid. But this seemed too much so, almost runny. It was very black. I tried applying it when the primer was damp, and also when it was dry, to avoid grey lashes. Using it made my lashes look and feel crunchy. They were clumped into several peaks with thin pointy tips. I couldn't brush them to separate, because they were hard. But, being optimistic, I still think it's possible for it to work - or at least, give a better result, if not a very good one. When I was using it, I thought it might work for someone with different lashes, because it definitely made them bigger and more noticeable, just not in a good way. I wear false lashes sometimes just for fun, but those look more natural than if I wear this mascara. I also tried the primer with another mascara (cheap brand 17 from the UK) and it worked better. I think my lashes were slightly grey though, because that mascara is not as black as L'oreals. I have nothing to lose by playing with it to see if it can actually work for me At this stage I would not buy it.

Concealers -Revlon - ColorStay Blemish Concealer with Soft Flex
cadbury 5/1/2008 5:13:00 AM
I bought this when I got sick of breaking out from the old colorstay concealer. I used 03 sand beige in that, which was yellow based. In the blemish concealer I got light/medium, which is not close in color undertones at all! Seeing them side by side is quite startling. Light medium does suit my skin tone and I don't *think* it breaks me out. I have used it for a few months, and haven't had any horrible reactions like with the old colorstay concealer, but I still need to check this concealer's effects on my skin. I would not have bought it if it had SPF, because thats what I suspected broke me out in the old one. I am always looking for an oil-free, spf-free concealer. It seems like this product would be useful to a lot of people, but doesn't seem to be available. If you know any good ones, feel free to PM me! At this stage, I would repurchase this concealer. I will update if that changes. EDIT - Luckily now I don't have as many blemishes to conceal with this. I think it may break me out a little, so i try to wear it for a short time, or not at all - but its better than the original colorstay on me, as i stated earlier. Would love to find something gentler and better.. but will use this until then.

Concealers -Revlon - ColorStay Under Eye Concealer
cadbury 5/1/2008 5:06:00 AM
When I had no more Maybelline Great Wear, I searched MUA for something that would stay put and cover. Revlon Colorstay was the best alternative. I bought it in 02 sand beige. If I remember correctly, the third shade was a lot darker. Sand beige is quite yellow based, which is good for me. It suits my normal skin color, but areas that were a touch more tan (forehead) or if I layered it, looked a bit too light. Where ever I put this stuff, I broke out, guaranteed. I thought it was because it had spf 15, but reading the tube, it says spf 6. I used it sparingly for a while, even though it broke me out, because it is so hard to find an oil-free concealer! I replaced it with Revlon's Colorstay blemish concealer.

Eyeliner -Kanebo - KATE Gel Eye Liner
cadbury 5/1/2008 4:33:00 AM
This is my first time trying gel liner. I have heard all the raves but having plenty of liquid and pencil liners, I never made the trip to a counter to buy one. I wish I had access to kate's gel liner sooner. It came out in Japan the month after I left (Feb 07) and it took me a year to get some! :P I When I had a chance to buy kate's gel liner, I was very eager because it has such a reasonable price for liner AND brush! The first time I used the brush, I was really impressed. I do not own expensive brushes, so I can't compare to other brands, but I thought the brush did a great job of getting in between gaps in my upper lashes. It is a great size, easy to create a thick or thin line. The only thing I would like is some sort of cap for it, but that is not a complaint. I have it in BLK-1, the plain black color. It has a harder texture than I expected. I used very little the first time I applied, because I was not sure how much I would need. I could see it would not be difficult to get the hang of using it. You only need very little to line both eyes, even if you also do your waterline/under the lashline and extend liner into cat eyes! As a test, I took a shower with it on. When i got out, my mascara was under my eyes (non waterproof) but the liner did not budge. Today I did the same thing, and I was amazed the liner stayed dry, exactly where I put it. I am not used to difficult to remove makeup, and I would say this requires a little more effort than my other eye makeup (which will come off with water and a little cleanser) but it is not inconveniently difficult to remove. A cotton bud and warm water / eye makeup remover is fine. My conclusion - Kate's gel liner is a great deal! So economical for a great liner and brush. I am now thinking of all the days I went clubbing, and how my makeup vanished - with this product I would not have had that problem! I definitely want to try other colors, and am officially converted to gel liner. Judging by the little amount you use, this liner would last a long time before needing to be repurchased. I can not judge whether the pot dries out or not over time, but even if it does, I have read a little saline can rejuvenate it. I gave the packaging a 4, because obviously there is nothing wrong with it, but it's not gorgeous as some other japanese makeup (like jill stuart). I gave the price a 2, because I bought it for close to the japanese retail price of 1500yen, which I think is extremely reasonable. Absolute re-buy for me!

Cleansers -Neutrogena - Fresh Foaming Cleanser
cadbury 1/11/2008 2:58:00 AM
I was in need of a new cleanser, and I could not repurchase the one I have been using from overseas. So I browsed in the drugstore for something simple that would remove my makeup . This is oil-free and soap-free - I wish it was fragrance free! it smells like products used for cleaning floors, ovens or bathrooms. I was also surprised that it doesn't really foam. That isn't a problem though, I just found it odd it is titled fresh "foaming" cleanser. I have used this for a few days now with no adverse reactions or irritations. My skin reacts to products easily, which is why I chose this - I use Neutrogena moisturiser too, and find several of their products good for sensitive skin. I am not sure I would buy this again... I chose yes because it does it's job, but I think I could easily find a replacement if necessary. EDIT - this cleanser lasted from January 1 - May 1. I was actually surprised it finished, thinking it was early! This must just be because I used my other cleanser for about a year, which was larger and a different consistency. I did NOT purchase it again, so I changed that in my review rating. I am unsure if this cleanser contributed to the tiny clogged pores on either side of my jaw, under my mouth. There is a good chance it did not, but if they did not appear, I would still not buy this again. After a while, even when the smell went, it just felt too much like washing my face with detergent. Needing to buy something quickly this morning, I have replaced it with Liquid Neutrogena mild facial cleanser. Ultimate conclusion - I would use fresh foaming in a pinch, but it would not be my first choice, and I would not want to use it regularly.

Blush -Clinique - Blushing Blush Powder Blush in Aglow
cadbury 1/7/2008 11:06:00 PM
On me this is more of a bronzer (I have fair-medium skin, dark hair and eyes). It is sheer, so you can apply it very lightly or build it up with a few more swipes. In direct light you can see the golden/bronze shimmer, but it is subtle. It is actually a colour I always see in pictures, and have always wanted to own - a blush that gives a beigy/bronze look. What deterred me from buying this type of colour from other brands is the ingredients - I break out easily from mineral oil, which is in most blushes. I chose the Clinique because it is oil-free and because of the great reviews and price. (I bought mine discounted online.) The packaging is simple and efficient, so I have no complaints - this is not an item I would have bought for the packaging! I have only recently got this, so if anything changes I will update. EDIT - unfortunately my skin is sensitive to mica, which is in every blush ingredients list I have ever read, meaning I can't use this product. Without that limitation I would absolutely repurchase this though.

Scrubs -Neutrogena - Blackhead Eliminating Scrub
cadbury 6/9/2007 7:41:00 PM
I was hoping this would clear up or prevent the clogged pores and tiny bumps I have been getting recently. However, like other reviewers have mentioned - every time I use this scrub, I seem to break out! I was hoping that my skin was just purging, but unfortunately it is just the reaction I get to this product. I have sensitive combination skin, so I will have to find something else. It works great on my legs though, so I will finish it off on them.

Masks -Clinique - Deep Cleansing Emergency Mask [DISCONTINUED]
cadbury 2/23/2007 10:53:00 PM
I have had two small tubes of this that must have come as GWPs years ago. I would use it quite rarely back when my skin didn't have any major problems. Recently, I found one of the tubes, which was quite full, so I thought I would try it again. My skin had been breaking out in whiteheads and other small things like that, so I used it every night before bed, hoping it would help reduce my skin problems, and leave my face less oily in the morning. It did help, because after doing that for about 5 days, my skin looks a lot better. I thought it would be too drying to use 5 days in a row, but it was fine (maybe because it is summer here). I only left it on for about 5 minutes before washing it off. When my skin calms down completely,(hopefully soon!) I will use the mask less, 1~2 times a week only. Previously, I wouldn't have given this a rating quite as high, but it did help me recently. I would buy a full size tube, unless there is a cheaper alternative that works just as well. (let me know if there is! )

Cleansers -Clearasil - New Clearasil Ultra Face Wash
cadbury 7/4/2006 10:42:00 PM
I have two samples of this I got from some magazines. I have never used Clearasil products as they do not appeal to me. I only used it because I have a patch of broken out skin on my forehead, and this contains salicylic acid, which I thought may help. This smells like men's aftershave, and is a blue gel. It does not produce much foam or lather. I have used it twice so far, and I am not impressed. I didn't expect miracles, I didn't even expect a reduction in pimples, but I at least wanted this stuff to clean my face. I don't feel that it actually cleans my skin, and I definitely couldn't use it to remove makeup. I would not buy this product.

Treatments -Neutrogena - Healthy Skin Face Lotion
cadbury 6/29/2006 5:04:00 AM
I thought I had written a review for this product, and came here to update it, but it looks like I haven't! I bought this a couple of years ago based on reviews here at MUA. I used it on my whole face at first, but settled on using it only on my nose. I always used to get pimples (whiteheads mainly) on my nose, but using this nightly kept my nose clog-free. I think this product can cause purging at first. When i bought it, it was summer, and I think it contributed to the oil on my forehead. Now it is winter, and I don't seem to have that problem so far. Recently my forehead has been broken out, and so has my chin, with what seems to be clogged pores and whiteheads. Since it didn't go away, I decided to try using this on these problem areas. I was afraid it would get worse, but after using it for two nights things seem to be getting better. I do have sensitive skin, so I don't want to use this every night, but I experienced no irritation or burning from this product. I am afraid of overdoing it, and I wouldn't use it in the day as I can't wear any sunscreen since I developed a problem with spf breaking me out :(. In the long run, this didn't work for me. It just burned and irritated my skin, which perhaps doesn't like AHAs

Lip Gloss -L'Oreal - Color Juice Bubble Gum
cadbury 1/16/2006 8:13:00 PM
I bought this based on the reviews here at MUA. I'm currently looking for a good pink nude, and beige nude. Many of the reviews said this color washed them out, and that it was very pale. On me, it's a soft yet bright pink, and it is definitely not pale. When I fist put it on, it brightened my whole face! it gives somewhat of a dolly type look. My lips appear juicy and not overly shiny. There is also no shimmer in this color, which gives it a more polished look. (For reference, my coloring - brown eyes, dark hair, LLL.) It's hard to imagine the color that I have washing anybody out, so I assume that just like Juicy Tubes, some batches of Color Juice are pigmented slightly differently than others. I have to say I love the smell! It's like candy, which I also love, but the smell seems to linger for quite a while, which I don't like. I'm not in the habit of licking my lips, or my lipgloss, but if i did while eating or drinking, this gloss does not taste nice. So, while it turned out to be completely different to what I expected based on reviews, I really like the color I got, and I bought this for $10NZD online (in stores these are much more expensive).

Lip Gloss -NYX - Lipgloss with Mega Shine in Frosted Beige
cadbury 1/3/2006 5:28:00 PM
Frosted beige is an accurate name for this gloss, although it is not a light beige. In the tube it looks like caramel infused with tiny gold shimmer. I bought this to tone down my pigmented lips. It is pigmented enough to tone down my lips while letting a hint of pink though through. It is not overly shimmery, and gives a pretty, glossy look. Like my other NYX gloss, it smells strongly of candy or gum when you apply it, but it has no taste. The first ingredient is mineral oil, which my skin hates. Gives me pimples around the lip area - will not repurchase

Lip Gloss -NYX - Lipgloss with Mega Shine - Beige
cadbury 1/3/2006 5:22:00 PM
I wouldn't describe this colour as 'beige'because it is a pinky beige YLBB colour, This gloss is low priced, and quite pigmented. One thing I like about the packaging is that no gloss oozes out when you put the wand back into the tube. It gives a really pretty look that would suit practically anyone. Mine is not at all orange like the other reviewer suggested..it's a very pretty shiny pink on my lips. I noticed this contains mineral oil though, so if this gives me pimples around my lips I'll update. This gloss has a strong candy/gum scent when applying, but has no taste. Would not repurchase due to ingredients, smell, taste
