Mascara -Maybelline - Full 'N Soft Mascara

EDIT 8-13-08: Last week, I was crying and guess what? This mascara didn't smudge. Yay! I think I might've found my HG. I got this from a recommendation on the makeup board. It darkens my lashes, it doesn't clump, it adds some volume though not a lot (which I like!), and it separates my lashes. This is the best my lashes have looked, I think. Will definitely purchase again!

Treatments (Eye) -Clinique - All About Eyes

I got this as a gift with purchase. I'm an oily skinned girl and typically don't need moisturizers. I found this the other day, as I like to recycle my makeup and face treatments (i.e., use them for awhile, put them away, use something else, then go back to them later). I do have some lines below my eyes, as I am in my later 30's...so I decided to try it. It's hard to tell if it is really doing anything...maybe it'll take awhile to kick in. I'll give it more time. It doesn't seem to clog my pores, which is good, as I am acne-prone. I decided to try some on my lips (I know that sounds weird, but I'm desperate to try anything as my lips are chapped worse than they ever have been before), and I noticed they are less chapped today...been putting them on my lips two nights ago, yesterday-morning and night, and this morning. If it doesn't work out for my eyes, it might work out as a lip balm. I put all 3's, because it seems to make a good lip balm, may or may not work as an eye treatment, I got it for free so I wanted to be neutral about the price, and the packaging is so-so. I put that I wouldn't buy again, as I doubt I will, unless it becomes a miraculous lip balm for me. Edit: It's been a week now since I've used it as a lip treatment, and I have to say it's great as a lip treatment. My chapped lip fiasco is coming to an end...finally. I wish I discover this before my wedding, but better late than never. Still didn't change the rating, as it is meant for an eye treatment.

Cleansers -Neutrogena - one-step gentle cleanser
rated 4 of 5
boomygrrl 11/7/2007 6:55:00 PM

overall, a good facial cleanser. It doesn't always get my mascara off but it does seem to get off my foundation and other makeup. It is gentle and doesn't seem like it is washing it all off, but occasionally I test it with witchhazel and there is no trace.

Liquid -Make Up For Ever - Mat Velvet PLUS Matifying Foundation
rated 5 of 5
boomygrrl 11/7/2007 12:30:00 PM

EDIT 8-13-08: Still like this foundation. Works well over other primers too. I do recommend using with primer for best results. Last week I was crying, and this foundation stayed on. While my face was wet, it looked like it was smudging, but once dried, it wasn't smudged at all!!! Yay! EDIT: Still like this foundation, but found that I like it most when I use MUFE All Mat face primer. With it, great. Without it, still better than most foundations for us oily types. I bought this last Friday (5 days ago) and have put this on for four of the five days. So far, I love it! It is the best foundation I have ever tried. It is easy to apply and the coverage is good. I have oily skin and it seems to keep the oilies at bay for most of the day. When I used this on Saturday night, after hours and hours of wearing, being around other people's smoking, and sweating from dancing, it held on pretty good...except the tip of my nose started oxidizing a little. Compared to all other foundations, that's not bad...usually my whole nose, my cheeks, my forehead, and chin all have oxidized makeup. This isn't perfect, but so far the closest makeup to it...as of now. I will update if my opinion changes on this.

Lip Gloss -Bath and Body Works - Liplicious Maple Sugar
rated 4 of 5
boomygrrl 10/29/2007 8:54:00 PM

Not only yummy and smells good, but it helped my dry, chapped lips a lot. I had a three month bout of extremely dry lips (never had it so bad). Tried everything to moisturize them. It seems like anything I tried helped temporarily but then my lips would feel drier later. So far so good with this. I will edit this later if it becomes a problem for my lips.

Cleansers -Neutrogena - Rapid Clear Oil-Control Foaming Cleanser- New

I wanted to like this, because I have oily, acne-prone skin. It did provide a nice, matte finish after I washed with it, but that was short-lived. After a few days of using it, I ended up with more pimples than I usually get. I felt like the cleanser washed off the goop (makeup, sweat, etc.), but that it added something to my face that clogged my pores. Maybe whatever it was that caused the nice, matte finish (like an oil-absorbing powder?) is what also caused it to get clogged. Too bad.

I bought this 2 or 3 years ago. So, if it's true that the formula has changed, then this review might be useless. I think it's an okay product, but very drying. For the amount that you get, it's cheap. I bought several tubes and still have one more. I am thinking about throwing it away since it's almost a year past expiration. I was hoping this would work for me, but I didn't see any better results than when using other acne products. My face is too sensitive for this. If you don't have sensitive skin, this might work wonders. I read somewhere where BP isn't really good for you. I'm curious of the results of anyone who has used this religiously for 3+ years.

Skincare - Face -Pro Activ - 3-Step System
rated 2 of 5
boomygrrl 10/7/2007 12:57:00 PM

I used this for a year a few years ago. I found the benzoyl peroxide to be okay. It was easier to put on my face and didn't dry it out as much as grocery store ones. The mask was nice. Some reviewers found the toner harsh. I didn't. I found the face wash and toner to not be strong enough. It didn't wash off my makeup. I would have to use something else to wash off my makeup...which defeated the purpose of using these products. Some malls have kiosks with ProActiv. I might buy the benzoyl peroxide and the mask again, but I wouldn't buy the 3-Step System again.

Lip Treatments -Beauticontrol - Lip Apeel

I normally don't have problems exfoliating my lips. But I think I'm allergic to this product. It is 11 days later, and my lips are still chapped. They are extra sensitive to food and liquid and feel like they're burning. I'm prone to chapped lips but not like this. I truly think it's probably an allergy, due to the generally positive reviews. EDIT: I still hate this. It's been over two months later and my lips never fully recovered. They are more chapped than they ever been and still sensitive (although less so than they were a month ago) to heat. I never had such badly chapped lips before trying this. I don't understand how a product can do this, so maybe it was coincidental, and maybe I was just going to have this problem anyway. But, again, my lips have never felt so bad. EDIT: Over three months, still awful. I just found something that might help my lips. EDIT: 4-3-08: I went to another beauticontrol party and tried it again. Yes, this is what caused my lips to be chapped. It happened again but not as bad this time around. I have found something to help.

Lips -Neutrogena - MoistureShine Tinted Lip Balm in Sunny
rated 3 of 5
boomygrrl 7/12/2007 2:09:00 PM

Great product! I have extremely dry lips (to go with an extremely oily face, go figure!). They usually flake and look nasty. When I wear this, they feel so moisturized. The color is nice and lasts. I do have to reapply after eating, though, but to me that's the only problem. It's so easy to carry in a pocket or purse, and so easy to apply (don't even need a mirror because it goes on so smoothely), that I just quickly put some on my lips, and I'm on my way! EDIT: Still great! They don't cure my chapped lips, but they are a good temporary fix! EDIT: They do chap my lips after all. Not right away. It seems that long-term use of this product makes my lips extremely, extremely dry. I stopped wearing it for three weeks (along with trying something else) and noticed improvement right away. I loved this at the beginning and gave it a 5...but now, it's a 2. EDIT: It's a 3 now. It's great in moderation, using it once in awhile. But when I reapply more than twice, it dries out my lips.

Concealers -Clinique - Advanced Concealer
rated 5 of 5
boomygrrl 7/12/2007 1:33:00 PM

Love this concealer for my super duper oily skin. It hides my pimples and other ug-o flaws rather well. As long as you don't use it under your eyes, it's perfect. Up until the past few months, I haven't needed anything under my eyes. I was blessed with youthful looks. That is starting to go away. So, for pimples and bumpies, this is an excellent product! I'm going to have to look around for a second concealer for under my eyes, though. That's okay, because I needed the drying, matte-ness of this concealer for the rest of my face. Update: Still my HG for concealers!! Update: 11-15-07: I used this yesterday as my whole foundation. I forgot to pack my MUFE foundation and only had this. So I used it. It was okay as a foundation, but definitely like it more as a concealer. Highly pigmented. It accentuated the lines under my eyes and it accentuated my pores. I didn't know my pores could show up like that! So, as a foundation...it's okay...better than nothing. But still a great concealer for bumpies and ug-o splotchies.

Liquid -Almay - Clear Complexion Blemish Healing Makeup
rated 3 of 5

I have had mixed results with this. I was about to give up on it, but lately it's made my face look great. I think the trick is to wait and let it absorb really well before applying powder over it. It has medium coverage but you can add more pretty easily if you need more coverage. If you do not wait for it to absorb before adding powder, your face can look streaky. Or at least mine did. Not sure it's really doing anything for my acne, but it isn't hurting it either. When my face is ultra oily, it does get blotchy later in the day, but for some odd reason it hasn't lately. My face is weird. I tend to have mixed results with all my foundations, so take it with a grain of salt. Oh, also, I stopped wearing blush lately and that seems to help it from not getting streaky. If you can pull it off (not wearing blush), I would recommend doing so. If I'm going for a natural look, this works. when I want to look really made up or if I need lasting power (day and night), then I use my clinique. EDIT: I gave up on this and took away a lippie. Why you ask? The streak factor was just too much. Yes, sometimes it looked great on my skin...but more often than I would like, it just didn't. I have such oily skin that it just didn't work out for me. Other people might have better results, that's why I only took away one lippie...because on me, it's 1 to 2 lippies...a compromise, I guess.

Eyeliner -Cover Girl - Perfect Point Plus Eyeliners
rated 4 of 5

I love this eyeliner. I use the espresso one and it's a great brown color. I have oily skin (including oily eyelids). When reading prior reviews, I was wondering why mine doesn't smear...thank goodness it doesn't. The answer: I use eyeshadow over it to soften the look. Always have. That might be why it works well for me.

Mascara -Clinique - Gentle waterproof mascara
rated 2 of 5

I have mixed feelings about this. I have two of them, black and black/brown. The black one is great. I don't know if maybe the black/brown is from an older batch ??? The problem with Clinique is that sometimes they sell you old products. The same with their foundation makeup. I would give the score 4 or 5, judging the black one I have. But I would give it a lower score if I was judging the brown, so I compromised with my score. The brown one was difficult to apply. I needed to use several coats, and it didn't seem to coat my lashes evenly. It seemed like some of my lashes didn't get coated. I truly think it's just an old batch. EDIT: Yes, it was from an old batch. Don't get Clinique products at the department stores...order them online. When I buy from the mall, I tend to get their older products, and that just doesn't work well. I kept the lippies the same, because I know many people buy from the mall. If you buy from internet, then it would be 4 or 5 lippies. Edit: 11-15-07: Now that I've tried Maybelline Full and Soft, I find Clinique's mascara boring. I don't require thick lashes...I just don't like clumps. Both are good about that. But clinique just barely colors the lashes (it's too gentle, I guess), even with several coats. I can't believe Maybelline has a better mascara, but it does. Also, clinique's mascara faded too quickly...it looked like I didn't have any mascara on by lunch time. F&S stays on until I take it off at night. I changed the rating from 3 to 2 and changed it to "no," I will not buy this again.
