Fragrances -Tabu - Tabu by Dana cologne splash
rated 5 of 5

Hummm, I didn't know until I read through the other reviews that Tabu is a teenager's idea of sex! I laughed at first but then after further thought I can see where that idea came from. I am certainly no longer a teenager and I didn't wear Tabu when I was but it is very much a sexy fragrance and men really do respond to it. I find it to be a really warm, spicy, heavy, and sultry oriental fragrance and I can smell rose in it too which makes it everything I like in a perfume. And should I ever get a chance to go out with a teenage boy again (maybe in my next life) I'll certainly remember to wear Tabu.

I really liked this when it first came out and wore it all the time. But, after months of wearing it, I started to feel like it had turned on me. Instead of the nice, soft oriental fragrance that I fell in love with, it changed into a sickeningly sweet, cheap smelling mess that I never wore again. I can only guess my body chemistry changed somehow although I could still wear my other favorites. I gave it 3 lippies though because I did love it a lot in the beginning.

I agree wholeheartedly with the review below, this is a yummy fragrance but to me it deserves 5 lippies. It's everything I like in a perfume and it's long lasting too. I like that it smells spicy, sexy, and expensive on me and that it's not one of those sickeningly sweet horrors that are so popular today and smell so cheap but cost so much. Overall just a very quiet beautiful fragrance.

Not what I usually like but I've worn it for years and I don't plan on giving up on it any time soon. I don't wear it all the time but I like to have it around for something different. On me the lily is the most noticable smell and it stays that way from start to finish but the other scents are great and well blended. As others have said the bottle is great too because it's also so different, it's a good match for this very different fragrance.

I think I'm in trouble on this one! I've read all the MUA reviews and searched the internet perfume sites and nowhere does anyone mention PEPPER as an ingredient. But pepper is just about the only thing I smell when I put this on and it never seems to change to anything else. Oh, I can very faintly smell something else in there but whatever it is it's so faint that I'll never be able to put a name to it. It's also not as long lasting on me as I like my perfumes to be either. I'm a perfume bottle lover too and I like the bottle better than the perfume. I don't hate this perfume but I don't like enough to buy again and I'm doubting I'll even use up what I have (may have to put in on eBay).

Fragrances -Alexandra deMarkoff - Enigma
rated 5 of 5
barbie46 9/6/2004 9:49:00 PM

I love this perfume even though my favorite is Alexandra (see my review). Enigma is classified as a floral, true oriental although I originally wrote this review calling this a chypre which is the way it was described on a perfume website I checked out first. So, I apologize for the incorrect information but since I don't have the nose to determine what's in a perfume (as I've mentioned in many of my reviews), I have to rely on information from others and this time I passed on incorrect information. Every perfume website I've checked, other than the first one, describes Enigma as a modern blend of florals: rose, iris, and jasmine, with amber and spice middle notes, and a musk, vanilla, and sandlewood drydown. I don't know what all this means but I do know that it all adds up to a wonderful fragrance that on me is soft, powdery, sensual, spicy, and elegant. Both Alexandra and Enigma smell classy and expensive although they are priced much less than many others these days. They can be hard to find (try Von Maur, one of the internet perfume sites, or eBay) but they are definitely worth searching for.

Fragrances -Alexandra deMarkoff - Alexandra Essence Mist

A perfect 10! A 5 lippie rating is not enough for this, it's my very favorite perfume of all the ones I've used over the years (and I've used a lot believe me). Even during chemo and radiation, when I could barely raise my head off my pillow, I managed to spray myself with this. It's everything I love in a perfume: soft, powdery, sexy, elegant, refined, spicy, heavy (yet somehow light at the same time), and long lasting. It's classified as a semi-oriental with top notes of Italian iris and South African marigold; middle notes of French jasmine, Moroccan rose and French jonquil; with a wonderful drydown of Indian sandlewood, Singapore patchouli, and Reunion Island vetiver. I always, always receive compliments on this and you will not smell this on a lot of others either which I like. It doesn't seem to be well known but I have worn it for years along with another of her fragrances, Enigma (see review), and hope both will be around forever. It's not out-of-this-world expensive either but it can be hard to find. I've found it at Von Maur, at several of the internet perfume outlet sites, and lately on eBay and it's worth the trouble to get it. I could go on and on because I love it so much and, even though I like to wear a unique perfume that not everyone else is wearing, I always rave on this one because I want everyone to love and enjoy it too.

Treatments -Biore - Pore Cleansing Strips - Nose
rated 3 of 5
barbie46 9/6/2004 12:57:00 AM

I used these when they first came out and they worked the same for me as for most of the reviewers. Over time my skin got better and I no longer have a big problem with blackheads (at least that's one good thing about getting older) so I quit buying them. I do still have very large pores on my nose though and the pores do fill with gunk so I recently bought a box of these and used them to pull out the gunk as I really don't like to squeeze my skin anymore. They worked just as good as they used to and I've never had a problem with them hurting when pulled off or with itching afterward. I think they are worth the money for what they do as there really isn't much else out there that does the same thing.

Fragrances -Elizabeth Arden - Red Door

ICK ICK ICK, I do not like this at all! I received it as a gift (kids got it confused with what I really wanted which was Giorgio's Red) and I wore it for a little while as I didn't have the heart to tell my kids I hated it. It is wayyyy too strong and just takes over a room. To me it has a very nauseating, overly sweet, cheap smell and I can't find anything good to say about it. It's certainly one that can easily give you (and everyone around you) a nasty headache.

Fragrances -Giorgio Beverly Hills - Red

I like this one and, yes, it is strong, and unique, and long lasting, and sexy, and powdery, and all the other good things everyone else has already said. I can't agree at all with the negative comments but then that's why it's great that we don't all have to wear the same thing. On me it's very soft, musky, powdery, spicy, and sexy and I'm careful not to overdo as it is strong. I once received a bottle of Red Door by mistake (kids got confused over the names) and believe me there is absolutely no comparison...this is by farrrrrr the best!

Fragrances -Guerlain - Shalimar
rated 5 of 5
barbie46 9/3/2004 11:08:00 PM

This truly is one of the best fragrances of all times, I love it! On me it's a powdery, very feminine, very warm, sexy scent that brings on the compliments. And it's that way from the very first spray. It's long lasting too. After reading the other reviews, I'll have to try the EDP instead of the EDT to see if there really is a big difference. But, frankly, I've been very happy with the EDT and the dusting powder all these years so maybe ignorance really is bliss. Also, for a perfume bottle lover like me you can't get much better than the Shalimar bottles (and the dusting powder container is beautiful too). If you love perfume, and you've never tried this, you really should, there's a reason it's been around for so many years. To the reviewer below I have to say that, for me (and my son), baby powder and Vicks Vapor Rub are two of the most fabulous, all-time wonderful smells ever so if Shalimar did smell like them (and I don't think it does) I wouldn't be upset at all!

Fragrances -Avon - Flannel Pajamas

I bought the shower gel, body spray, body lotion, and bath foam on eBay after reading the MUA reviews because I was looking for something different than what I normally choose. And, this is different alright. I like it, but I don't love it so I probably won't buy it again. However, I do like it enough to keep using it and really my only complaint is that the smell does not last long enough, not even when layering the body spray on top of the lotion. At the rate I'm going I'll be out of the spray in no time because I find that I do keep sniffing my arm and adding more as the scent fades! I am not good at determing what is in a scent and because this is so different from my norm I have absolutely no idea what to tell you other than I like it, it's different, and it's very nice. Several reviewers called it a calming fragrance and I agree.

Fragrances -Lancome - Magie Noire EDT
rated 5 of 5
barbie46 9/3/2004 12:07:00 PM

A perfect fragrance for me, it's exactly what I like: spicy, heavy, sensual, I love it. I've used it off and on for years and always get compliments. Like another reviewer, I too like using unique perfumes that aren't used by many others and this is one you won't notice on a lot of people. I don't agree with the "granny" thing at all as I started using this when I was much younger and as I said before always have received many many compliments. As with any heavy fragrance you need to use a light touch which I have a hard time doing because it has such a wonderful smell I want to keep spraying and spraying.

Fragrances -Estee Lauder - Youth Dew

A wonderful fragrance! I've loved this for years but haven't worn it for awhile. Just today I found a bottle with a bit left in it in one of my drawers and the smell is still just fabulous, I will buy more of it that's for sure. I see from the other reviews that this is one of the love/hate fragrances and I too agree that one's body chemistry has everything to do with how it smells. I have the right chemistry for it and on me it has the dark, heavy, sultry, sexy smell that I favor. I can remember when this first came out and a lot of "mature" women saturated themselves with it and I think that's why so many associate it with old ladies. Fortunately for me, my very beautiful Mother wore it but never to excess and as a result she always smelled heavenly in it. To this day I can identify this scent on someone from across a room but I don't often smell it anymore. Obviously it isn't as popular as it once was but I hope they never quit making it. If you like strong, spicy, musky scents you should definitely try this, just be sure to use a light hand when applying. It's very long lasting too. Absolutely still one of my very favorites as it has been for the last 40 years!

Fragrances -Adrienne Vittadini - Adrienne Vittadini

Although I like this fragrance I wouldn't buy it again but it's hard to explain why I wouldn't. Being a lover of beautiful perfume bottles I really like this one because it's so simple with such clean lines. However, I have just never been totally comfortable with the perfume itself. On me I do not like it at all when first put on as it has a sharpness to it that just turns me off. But after about 1/2 hour it changes into a deeper, more sultry smell that I really do like. It's long lasting on me but again, I just don't find myself reaching for it for some reason and I can't put my finger on why. UPDATE 7/9/05: Adding another lippie to my rating and I definitely would buy this again. I've come to really like this and wear it often now. It's a unique fragrance on me, different from my usual scents; I always think of pepper when I first put it on but I don't know why as I don't like pepper. I think this fragrance is sexy but light, long lasting but not overwhelming, and, it's not too pricey. I recommend you try it.
