Mascara -Christian Dior - Diorshow Mascara

Like this mascara a lot, but am still trying to make up my mind about it. The first time I used it, I wasn't that impressed, but I think the big thick brush just takes some getting used to. It does a good job of defining my lashes and actually seems to make them look a lot longer and more lush than they really are. However, it does seem to irritate my eyes a little bit (I wear contacts and have kind of sensitive eyes). I had been using Darphin mascara, which does irritate them at all. It also seems to flake a little more than the Darphin, but has a much more dramatic look. So, overall, still thinking about it ... but might purchase again (if I save my pennies!)

Mascara -Darphin - Mascara

I like this mascara a lot better than 90% of those I have tried, but I'm still looking for a favorite. The formula seems to be very gentle (I wear contacts and have sensitive eyes and skin) and does not irritate my eyes at all. Stays put very well during the day. My main complaints about it are the high price and the fact that it really makes my eyelashes stick together, resulting in kind of a "clumpy" look that makes my eyelashes appear more sparse than they really are. Would *maybe* purchase again.

Lip Gloss -L'Oreal - Glam Shine Holographic - Fusion
rated 5 of 5

Love this shade ... a nice irridescent fuschia! I bought it awhile back on a whim and was initially skeptical about the weirdness of the color in the tube. It looks pretty dark and just ... strange ... because of the irridescence. I'm pale and blonde and even though I always WANT to wear very pigmented/dark glosses, they generally look pretty cheap and bad on me. However, I was very pleasantly surprised by this gloss. I don't know what it is, but it just looks really nice on - very natural, a few shades darker than my natural lip color, and with a little extra kick because of the shimmer! All in all, an unusual shade that I really like and would happily buy again.

Excellent nude shade that seems like it would be flattering on a variety of different skin tones. Very nice creamy texture and fruity scent.

Brows -Revlon - Brow Fantasy
rated 5 of 5

Absolutely love this product (and not just because it's so affordable!!) Really does the job of keeping my brows in line. I don't always use the pencil side of the product (unless I really need to fill something in), but always use the tinted gel side. Just keeps brows looking nice and neat. My only complaint is that the packaging doesn't hold up terribly well on the pencil side - after a few times toting it around in my makeup bag, the plastic cover for the pencil cracked and now won't stay on. However, would absolutely buy again!

Sunscreen -Sisley - Botanical Sunblock SPF 20
rated 2 of 5

Got this as an extra (sample size - color: natural) in a swap, so I can't comment on the packaging quality or the price ... but I would not buy it. It's not a high enough SPF for me (I wear at least 30). Also, I don't like the tint in it. The natural is the lightest shade, but it was a bit too dark for me and made me look kind of reddish, and a lot rubbed off on my hands & clothing during the day. Also kind of made my skin burn when I put it on, so made me think I'm probably sensitive to the ingredients. Also felt really heavy and greasy to me.

Styling Products -Aveda - Light Elements Smoothing Fluid
rated 3 of 5

I'm not overly impressed with this product - but Aveda products often don't seem to do that much for my hair. I would say it's okay, but not great. I put it on before blowdrying - and even tried varying the amounts from just a couple of drops to 10 or so - and I didn't notice any kind of difference (versus when I use absolutely nothing). It works a little better for me if I apply after I've blowdried - either as a finishing product or as a pre-straightening iron product. I have shoulder-length thick blonde highlighted hair that is naturally wavy (and a bit coarse) with way too much volume, and I usually blowdry it straight and use a straightening iron maybe once a week. I'm always looking for a good smoothing product ... unlike a lot of other reviewers, I actually need something that will weigh my hair down and make it a little more limp and manageable ... so maybe it's just too light for me. Although the price is high (I think I paid about $29 for it at CVS), it lasts FOREVER.

Concealers -Sonia Kashuk - Hidden Agenda Concealer Kit
rated 3 of 5
amhirst 7/2/2005 12:05:00 PM

I like the fact that this concealer has two blendable skin-tone shades + the greenish tint + the powder to set it. (Sometimes it's a little hard to mix the shades to get it to match your skin tone.) However, like some other reviewers, I find the texture to be really dry. That means that it's a bit hard to apply and that if used on certain areas of the face - particularly the undereye area (where I need it most), it accentuates lines and creases. Also, the little brushes that come with it are too tiny and hard to use, so I use a larger (travel size) L'Oreal concealer brush with it. The quality is pretty good for the price that you pay ... but I'm still looking for a good concealer.

Totally agree with the previous review. This product is expensive and doesn't seem to work at all. Also used faithfully and saw absolutely no difference. Don't waste your money!

Fragrances -Les Parfums de Rosine - Ecume de Rose
rated 2 of 5
amhirst 7/2/2005 12:31:00 AM

Hm. I really wanted to like this. I usually like floral fragrances - especially rosy ones. However, must be my chemistry. On me, it smells really sharp and soapy and makes me feel itchy and allergic. It's okay, but nothing to write home about.

Fragrances -Hermes - Ambre Narguile (Hermesessence series)
rated 5 of 5
amhirst 7/1/2005 4:33:00 PM

WOW!!!! That's all I can say. I completely and totally love this and was stunned when I got the little sample I had bought on a whim on eBay. Before I smelled this I thought I could not stand (a) Hermes fragrances (I guess I assumed that all of them smell like my mother's favorite - Caleche - which does absolutely nothing for me but smell soapy) and (b) amber fragrances, which I think of as kind of hippy-ish and patchouli-like and wayyyy too strong for me - usually just inspiring a sneezing fit. However, this is amazing! At first it smells to me like warm apple pie - cinnamony and delicious! Then it mellows down to more of a woody/cedary smell with a little bit of sweetness and spice. I absolutely love it and think it's sexiness in a bottle!

Treatments -Nailtiques - Oil Therapy
rated 5 of 5
amhirst 7/1/2005 1:04:00 PM

A great cuticle and nail oil. Smells nice (sort of fruity/apricot-y) and works wonders for me. My nails and cuticles tend to get very dry, leading to hangnails, etc. However, this product - which I try to apply every day - really seems to help me. My nails and the skin around them looks a lot healthier. The product absorbs really quickly and is easy to apply (comes in a little nailpolish bottle). My only complaint is the extremely high price for such a tiny bottle.

Lip Treatments -DDF - Glossy Lip Therapy w/ SPF 15
rated 3 of 5
amhirst 6/29/2005 8:53:00 PM

I like the fact that this is glossy, minty, moisturizing, and has SPF. I use it on a daily basis. However, it doesn't seem to last very long on my lips (requires fairly frequent reapplication), a tube of it also doesn't last very long for me (perhaps as a result of the frequent application) and is pretty high priced for what it is - lipgloss.

Fragrances -Nanadebary - Green
rated 2 of 5
amhirst 6/29/2005 8:06:00 PM

I like this one. Smells very "green" - like basil and kind of citrusy. Loads better than the Pink and the Bronze. Unfortunately it doesn't last AT ALL. Fades in an hour, so I can't see paying this much for the fragrance. It gets a mediocre rating from me.

Fragrances -Nanadebary - Pink

Blah. Nothing special - smells really cheap to me (even though it's not at all). A bit of nutmeg and a huge dose of drugstore powder. Doesn't smell that different from the Bronze - maybe a little more "feminine". Definitely not worth shelling out the money for this one. Was very disappointed because I was prepared to like it.
