Polishes -Chanel - Pink Satin
alexei9 12/1/2006 10:53:00 PM
Just bought this today. As previous reviewers stated, it's a lovely, pale pearlized pink with very fine silver microglitter. it's understated and classy however-glitter for grown ups! I love pale colors on my short fingernails, I will probably wear 2 coats of this only because it's still sheer, and with my naturally very white nail tips it looks like a pale pink french manicure. I think it's classier than the new Wonderland nail polish which was so packed with shimmer it looked kinda crusty on the nails. Not very pretty, imho. If this wasn't LE and I actually ever used up a nail polish, I would rebuy.

Lipstick -Laura Mercier - Stickgloss in Black Orchid
alexei9 11/14/2006 9:42:00 PM
This is basically Laura Mercier's version of that old standby, Clinique Black Honey Almost Lipstick. The color and sheerness are where the similarity ends, however. The stickgloss texture and smoothness are divine, and where Black Honey used to settle in my lip lines and wear off unevenly, Black Orchid applies evenly, smoothly, and leaves a touch of stain as it wears off. And the color is better too...at least for me (LLL/hazel/brown). I also find the Stickglosses moisturizing. If you like berry stain lippies, this is one of the best I've come across.

Fragrances -Laura Mercier - Creme Brulee Eau Gourmande
alexei9 11/14/2006 9:35:00 PM
I am not usually a fan of food-y scents like Vanilla and so forth but this one hooked me. It's an amazing replication, much like the Creme Brulee lotion and body wash also made by Laura Mercier. Just divine, warm vanilla and caramel and it smells somehow a touch floral as well. This was my favorite of all the new Eau Gourmande scents and seemed to be the most realistic replication of them all. It also has great lasting power. The Eau Gourmande line is LE according to my local counter, so if you want to try it, get out there right away!

Eye Shadow -Chanel - Winter Nights
alexei9 11/12/2006 10:17:00 PM
This new Chanel quad is seriously stunning. A must have for any fair-skinned green or hazel-eyed gal, imho. There is a pale creamy beige shade , a pale pink, and a perfect taupe all with subtle shimmer. Then there is the standout shade of the quad-a deep, flinty, glinty, deep olive that looks amazing as a liner and worked a little into the crease. This is one recent LE quad that I think should be added to the normal lineup-I would definately buy again and again.

Eye Shadow -Laura Mercier - Eye Colour Duo in Bamboo
alexei9 11/7/2006 9:54:00 PM
HG neutral eye combination. Both colors have subtle shimmer, the light taupe shade is the perfect wash/highlighter shade for the browbone, and the deeper bronzey-brown shade is soft, pigmented, but can be sheered out beautifully or layered for intensity. I really love the quality and texture of the Laura Mercier eyeshadows, they are very finely milled, the shimmer never looks too frosty. The duos are reasonably priced (for Laura Mercier) at $22.00 currently. There are many great color combinations in the duos but this one is a sure bet for just about anyone with any coloring who wants a wearable neutral.

Eye Shadow -Estee Lauder - Pure Color Eyeshadow in Cinnamon ] [DISCONTINUED]
alexei9 10/29/2006 1:45:00 PM
This is one of the new formula/packaging Pure Color eyeshadows released Fall 2006. The color is a shimmering medium brown with pink undertones-a light bronze, if you like. The pigmentation in the new range is far superior to the older shades that came in the weird, square ice-cube packaging and gave you about 1/10th of the product that these do. The packaging still leaves something to be desired in that it's bulky, they have put a little mirror in it (so little it's practically useless) and a small sponge applicator. What is nice about the packaging is the accurate color replication in the lucite cover so that you can tell what color you are reaching for in your makeup bag without opening the package up. The new shadows are $17.50 which is less than the older ones were, I think they were $20.00 a piece for less product. While the price is high compared to MAC, the texture and pigmentation is great and for that reason you are getting your money's worth. I will be buying more of these. Edit 5/9/07: this shadow creases on me about midday....might work better with a creme shadow underneath...but I usually don't like to take the time for an extra step...

Lipstick -Estee Lauder - Pure Color Crystal Lipstick in Dulce de Leche
alexei9 10/29/2006 1:36:00 PM
Dulce de Leche is a gorgeous, sheer bronzey-nude with enough pinky tones in it to keep me from looking washed out. The Pure Color Crystal Lipstick line is the only one that I wear in EL and it has a very shiny glossy texture. The shine and glossiness lasts for a long time and they feel moisturizing, unlike MAC lustres which tend to go drying on me...The signature Fig scent I personally like, but some may not. They are reminiscent of the Chanel Aqualumiere line which is a similar concept in that they are meant to be sheer and glossy. But I actually think the EL is better at the sheer concept. The packaging is bulky, but durable and beautiful. If you like aqualumieres and lustres try this line...there are a range of beautiful sheer colors that would suit just about anyone. **edit** I have found these to be a bit drying, just as the MAC Lustre's are...still pretty though..

Lipstick -MAC - Lustre - Honeyflower [DISCONTINUED]
alexei9 9/4/2006 10:07:00 PM
I can't believe I just tried Honeyflower-I kept passing it by, thinking it was too orangey and warm for me...my favorite MAC lustres have always been more pink/plum-Sophisto, Pink Aperitif, and VGV for a nice neutral-But I gave Honeyflower a try and I don't know if it's the touch of summer tan I still have, but this totally worked for me. I am LLL with golden undertones and I think that's why this works. I have hazel eyes and dark brown hair w/some natural blonde highlights and this really looked like a beautiful, sheer shimmering, cinnamon on me. There is just enough pink undertone in this for it not go orange on me. It's very neutral in fact, and looks like a richer version of VGV.

Lip Gloss -Chanel - Imaginaire Glossimer
alexei9 8/13/2006 2:39:00 PM
Beautiful sheer raspberry with silvery microglitter-the shimmer effect is quite subtle. This is very similar to the summer 2006 Glossimer release Summer Plum, but sort of it's more berry-toned cousin. I love them both. If you like berries in gloss and lipstick this is a must have, imho. This has the usual wonderful Chanel quality and texture and I will definately repurchase.

Eyeliner -Laura Mercier - Kohl Pencil in Brown Copper
alexei9 7/19/2006 11:46:00 AM
Great dark brown liner with some shimmer-I wouldn't describe the color as coppery as it's not too red, more just a neutral dark brown w/shimmer. This is virtually identical in texture and color to MAC's Teddy however, and for the price difference this is not so much better as to be worth the extra $5.00 bucks. Teddy is a little bit darker, and a touch redder to me, but that's about it. Just depends on your preference for the color and/or the pricetag which one you want.

Moisturizers -Lancome - Aqua Fusion
alexei9 7/14/2006 10:16:00 PM
I've been really happy with this lotion. It has a nice, light feel, SPF 15 (titanium dioxide based) and even a nice, fresh light scent. Works really well under all my foundations too without any odd streakiness or patchiness. Not over the top expensive either ($36.00 US). All in all, I would gladly purchase this one again. I have normal skin with very minimal breakouts and have had no difficulties with this. If you are very dry, you might try the cream instead.

Lip Gloss -Lancome - Juicy Tubes in Sun Bronze
alexei9 7/3/2006 12:49:00 PM
Lovely color, but not for me. wayyyyy too dark for an LLL. This would look great on anybody GGG or darker, imho. It was too brown and deep for me. I really wanted their Copper Cabana shade, which is more caramel/bronze with pink undertones, and would have worked better for me, but alas, they were sold out. Sun Bronze just make me look as though I'd had a half melted chocolate bar and forgot to wipe my mouth off when I was done.

Eyeliner -Lancome - Le Krayon Khol - 09 Argent
alexei9 6/30/2006 1:56:00 PM
Great, true silver eyeliner. This is one of the Waterproof Khols that come out in limited editions from Lancome. It is on par with the MAC Powerpoints, but I don't think they have a silver quite like this. Looks amazing with the new Color Design single eyeshadow in Style Section (silver) layered over it for that highly metallic silver eye that's been seen alot on runways lately. great with cool pinks and lavendars as well.

Lipstick -Christian Dior - Addict Ultra-Shine Sheer Lipcolor - 612 Shiniest Chestnut [DISCONTINUED]
alexei9 6/17/2006 11:20:00 PM
Gorgeous, sheer lipstick-but I wouldn't have called this Chestnut, which brings to mind a rich dark brown for me-this is a sheer mauvey-berry with silver microglitter, Looks fabulous with my LLL/Hazel/Brown coloring and is just sooo pretty! Packaging on these dior lipsticks is very cool too. It reminds me a lot of Chanel's Aqualumiere in Java, but that one is more reddish berry and this is more subtle and mauvey in comparison.

Eye Shadow -Chanel - Dunes Quad
alexei9 6/13/2006 11:59:00 PM
Wow, I just love this quad. The previous reviewer described these neutrals so well, it should have been the description on the Chanel website. This is just as subtley beautiful as the two new glossimers released with it, Glow and Nougat. I used the ecru on the lid, the shimmering taupe mixed with the dark brown in the crease, pale pink on the browbone to hi-light, then used a dampened brush to line with the dark brown. Perfection. couldn't find a better go-to everyday neutral quad if I tried...except maybe for Nymphea, which would be perhaps the only other Chanel quad that fits this bill for me. Looks amazing with my LLL/Hazel/Brown coloring.
