Eye Shadow -Bobbi Brown - shade descriptions

Today is October 7th, 2004. A few months ago, Bobby Brown began displaying swatches on their website as true to the actual color as they could (keeping in mind that everybody's display equipment and software components will always give us differences). I've just noticed that recently they're adding descriptions of colors for most all their color items, either listing the colors in small collections or listing the description when you click on a swatch. This is extremely helpful when trying to imagine a color online ... or even when you do buy items at the counter and still can't quite tell the color when you get home; this is important because there are times a combination just doesn't look right to your eye after application and you're not sure why. Between the actual names of the products, the online color, and the descriptions, I'd say that this is one of the best websites for understanding what a color is before you buy a product. Here are all the descriptions that I could uncover.

Eyeliner -Bobbi Brown - Gel Eyeliner in Hunter
Tuscana 10/6/2004 11:42:00 PM
The more I wear Bobbi Brown, the more I love their products. What I love about their gel liners is that the colors are skin tone flattering, highly pigmented, and stay on for miles. I just cannot have enough BB and I cannot have enough gel eyeliners. Lately I've been playing with eye shadow / liner combinations recommended at BB's website and having great luck. Today I wore medium warm tones ... Cream Blush Stick - Red Berry on my cheeks, a wash of Eye Shadow - Bone on my lids overall, Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow - Bone under my eyebrows, Eye Shadow - Vanilla on the lower lids, Eye Shadow - Toast in the crease and got to try out my new Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner - Hunter Ink. Black mascara. I wore Lip Shimmer - Ruby with Creamy Lip Liner - Cola but wish I'd worn the Lip Shimmer - Garnet. This was great for casual but with brighter lips it was nice for casual dinner out with a friend. Another great look, especially for fall and Winter! I'm an MMM, with neutral warm-toned Type IV/V skin, wearing MAC NW25 without a tan; very dark brown hair, very dark brown eyes with a gray ring around the iris. Some eye shadows, if they're the wrong green, look harsh on me. This was a wonderful blackened green that instead of putting a sharp black line on your lids just gives a hint that there's some other color lurking at the base of your lashes. My eyes sparkled. BB's website describes this shade as: hunter green.

Eye Shadow -Bobbi Brown - Eye Shadow in Vanilla
Tuscana 10/6/2004 11:36:00 PM
The more I wear Bobbi Brown, the more I love their products. What I love about their eye shadows is that the colors are skin tone flattering, highly pigmented, and finely milled. Lately I've been playing with eye shadow / liner combinations recommended at BB's website and having great luck. Today I wore medium warm tones ... Cream Blush Stick - Red Berry on my cheeks, a wash of Eye Shadow - Bone on my lids overall, Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow - Bone under my eyebrows, and finally got to try out my new Eye Shadow - Vanilla on the lower lids ... paired with Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner - Hunter Ink. Some eye shadows, if they're *too* pale, end up making it not clear where my crease is (or used to be ... sigh); so I added Eye Shadow - Toast in the crease which worked great with this combination. I love this Vanilla ... it's the teensiest bit brighter than the bone and so made my lids highlighted (i.e. helped open up my eyes) without being a stark white; it'll be useful with lots of other combinations. My only complaint ... how *dare* they send me this shadow in one of their old style containers ... blagh, shame on them ... I bet Bobbi didn't know what they did!

Eyeliner -Bobbi Brown - Gel eyeliner in Granite

The more I wear Bobbi Brown, the more I love their products. What I love about their gel liners is that the colors are skin tone flattering, highly pigmented, and stay on for miles. I just cannot have enough BB and I cannot have enough gel eyeliners. Lately I've been playing with eye shadow / liner combinations recommended at BB's website and having great luck. Today I wore light to medium cool tones ... Cream Blush Stick - Dusty Mauve on my cheeks, a wash of Eye Shadow - Shell on my lids overall, Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow - Petal under my eyebrows, Eye Shadow - Woodrose on the lower lids ... paired with Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner - Granite Ink. Black mascara. What a great look! I'm an MMM, with neutral warm-toned Type IV/V skin, wearing MAC NW25 without a tan; very dark brown hair, very dark brown eyes with a gray ring around the iris. This grey was great with my particular eyes as it echoed that grey ring around my irises. It defined my eyes but in a softer way than black does. I'll have to use this more often! BB's website describes this shade as: granite grey.

Some eye shadows, if they're *too* purple, show up a mile away on me because my skin tone is so warm. But this shadow came out as MLidsBB in cooler tones. This combination worked especially well for an evening meeting tonight under those wretched florescent lights; my colors came out warm (even though they're cool tones) under those lights but as a natural look. I *thought* this would come out great ... it did. BB's website describes this shade as: brownish pink.

Bronzers -Estee Lauder - Bronze Goddess
Tuscana 10/4/2004 4:16:00 AM
Oh is this a lovely sheer bronzer ... the hoopla is justified! Thanks to all the reviewers, I've got my HG bronzing powder. It's so big, it'll last forever. I'm an MMM, with neutral warm-toned Type IV/V skin, wearing MAC NW25 without a tan; very dark brown hair, very dark brown eyes with a gray ring around the iris. The brush that comes with it works very well but I usually use one of those fan-shaped brushes and lightly swathe it on my cheekbones, forehead, bridge of my nose, and tip of my chin. It's so subtle and layers so well. With this I can always give the *impression* of having tan but saving my skin by staying out of the sun. Fabu product.

Eyeliner -Hard Candy - Glitter Eye Pencil
Tuscana 10/4/2004 4:08:00 AM
I loved the look but it was annoying when I tried to make a smooth line and ran over the glitter lumps. If they made it a shimmer instead of glitter chunks, I'd be sold because it was a subtle look. Also, I kept getting glitter chunks everywhere when I tried to wash it off. I won't buy any more of these.

Scrubs -Unlisted Brand - Deep Steep - Grapefruit-Bergamot Sugar Scrub
Tuscana 10/4/2004 4:04:00 AM
love to use scrubs (and I have to especially when I'm in self-tanning mode) so I have many to choose from. One of my very favorites and the most invigorating of all is this product. I'd been eyeing it forever as the aroma was so delicious (anything citrus is high on my list) and finally plunked down the bucks for it. It truly really scrubs you but of course, as it's sugar, it slowly disolves so you aren't left with lots of grains in the bottom of your tub or shower. The scent is just like you'd think. *But* I warn you (and they warn you on the label), it'll make your tub so slippery you can fall! The ingredients contain (at least): certified organic sugar, vitamins A and E, organic cocoa butter, shea butter, organic jojoba oil, grapefruit essential oils, and bergamot essential oils. All the oils float over the top of the sugar; you just dip your hand down into the goo, grab some sugar, and scrub your bod. After I rinsed off, I was not sticky but my skin was smooth and creamy soft feeling. A truly satisfying experience.

Cleansers -Dr. Brandt - Poreless Cleanser
Tuscana 10/4/2004 3:49:00 AM
I received a sample of this and finally used it this evening. It's advertised as "An excellent daily cleanser for acne-prone or blemished skin. Citric acid extract dissolves oil and debris, leaving skin with a refreshed, squeaky-clean feeling." I'm 50 and have skin oilier than any teenager's (but don't usually break out, thank goodness). I don't want to strip oil from my skin but I do need to keep it clean and exfoliated. This cleanser came out like a thick lotion, almost of gel consistency, which felt really nice applying; it didn't run all over the place because it was thick. It lathered up to be very creamy; I always use my Shiseido facial brush to clean and it swirled around very well. this is formulated with clarifying salicylic, tea tree and rosemary so it smelled very nice. It did dissolve all grime and makeup from my face (but I always remove the major amount of makeup first with cleansing clothes). My skin is very sensitive and this didn't irritate at all (you must keep it out of your eyes or it will sting). It costs $35 USD for 8 ounces (at Sephora) which comes to $4.38 an ounce; this is less expensive than my Bobbi Brown Purifying Gel Cleanser ($5.24 an ounce) but I *love* my BB cleanser and have no reason to switch from it. But, if you were wondering what this product is like, I give it a thumbs up for those with oily or combination skin. But I don't know why they call it "Poreless" ... I certainly still have pores in my skin.

Eye Shadow -Bobbi Brown - Cream Shadow Stick -Vanilla
Tuscana 10/4/2004 12:18:00 AM
The more I wear Bobbi Brown, the more I love their products. I'm an MMM, with neutral warm-toned Type IV/V skin, wearing MAC NW25 without a tan; very dark brown hair, very dark brown eyes with a gray ring around the iris. I bought some of these Cream Shadow Sticks and had been ignoring them while I played with other things. I swiped the Vanilla under my brows (even over powder shadows that I'd been wearing all day) and was wowed by the creamy icy vanilla color ... very eye brightening. Yes, it's almost like a cream stick foundation consistency. But, I didn't even bother to blend it much except at the very edges, and it looked great. I'll try it as a base, too ... but I had no idea I'd like this so much.
