Eye Shadow -Sally Girl - Sally Girl - eyeshadows
RingofFire 9/11/2008 1:27:00 PM
I was a bit skeptical of the quality because of the price and the packaging, but got one in a swap and was impressed by the staying power (Purple Haze). Smooth texture for a shadow so inexpensive and best of all did not crease on me. No primer really needed & I usually have oily lids ,the colors does not start to fade till the end of the day -before I went to bed and STILL did not notice any creasing on my lids which is usually what happens to me with cheap eye or even some HE makeup. I have also been experiencing some irritation with a lot of eye makeup lately, eyes watering and itching. I do not seem to be experiencing this with this brand. Used one of the dark shades as a liner by itself and it stayed on for a good 8 hours with minimal fading. Their matte shadows are nice; some are slightly shimmery not dry looking just nice soft look for daytime. Colors can be made to look more intense by applying with a slightly damp brush. I also like that the compacts hook together side by side great for doing your own palettes. Here is A list of what their eye shadows contain: TALC ,ETHYLHEXYL PALMITATE ,MAGNESIUM STEARATE ,METHYLPARABEN ,PHENOXYETHANOL ,TOCOPHERYL ACETATE ,PROPYLPARABEN ,BUTYLPARABEN ,ASCORBYL PALMITATE , CI 77891 ,CI 77499 ,CI 77492 ,CI 77491 ,MICA Lets see: 1.28 or 99 cents only with Sally Card. If you break or lose one no big deal. I am sure MAC is better, I just don't want to pay nearly 15.00 for an single eyeshadow anymore or haunt ebay looking for 'deals'. Staying power is pretty good for what I consider drug store or a relatively unknown brand of makeup. Interconnecting compacts makes it easy to create your own palettes.

Eye Shadow -Sally Girl - Sally Girl Eye Shadow Connecting Compacts

I was a bit skeptical of the quality because of the price and the packaging, but got one in a swap and was impressed by the staying power (Purple Haze) smooth texture for a shadow so inexpensive and best of all did not crease on me. No primer really needed if you plan on wearing this maybe 8 hours or more but under more humid conditions you may want to use some kind of primer. It really stays on then as well as any Med. end shadow For little more than a buck, these shadows deliver without breaking the bank. Best of all non irritating. I have also been experiencing some irritation with a lot of eye makeup lately, especially Revlon Colorstay. Used one of the Sally darker shades as a liner by itself and it stayed on for a good 8 hours with minimal fading. Their matte shadows are nice; some are slightly shimmery not dry looking just nice soft look for daytime. Colors can be made to look more intense by applying with a slightly damp brush. Eye Shadow -NYX - Herb eyeshadow
RingofFire 6/21/2008 12:35:00 PM
Love this green. Its rare I come across a color that isn't a total neutral (browns) that I can wear in the daytime. It is a khaki green with some shimmer. This has just the right amount of shimmer to make it interesting but not too obvious or look overdone. I use this mainly as a liner or at the outer corner of my eyes, but also mix it in with some of my ''boring browns'' You will need to prime lids with either a primer or powder to get it to set and last through a hot humid day though. NYX needs to put this color in trio if it has not already.

Eye Shadow -NYX - Eyeshadow in Aloha

I have this color in the Trios TS15 and I have to say its a nice shimmer champagne beige- pink. I don't find many shimmer shades that work with my skin (lids are starting to show past sun damage and dryness)but this is very forgiving shade to use as a lid highlighter or even above the crease as a wash. I would repurchase this in the single.

Cleansers -Ponds - Clean Sweep Cleansing and Makeup Remover Towelettes
RingofFire 6/13/2008 10:59:00 AM
This was listed as POND's Clean Sweep.I got 30 wet towelettes plus some extra 15 towelettes for at least 6.49 at Walgreen's. I find this product okay maybe a 2.5-3 rating. My main gripe is that it did not remove all of my eye makeup. I had to keep going over again 3-4 x to get it all off to make sure all of it was gone. On the package it claims to remove waterproof mascara. Uh-uh, not my Lash Blast. I really had to rub against my lashes to take even 1/2 off and ended up having to take that off with good old fashion Vasaline jelly. Bought this because they had extra towelettes (15) at my local Walgreen's. For eye make up removal I prefer Andrea eye Q's the non oily version and for quick face makeup removal use the Oil of Olay (paper towel that you wet first?) . Would I buy again? Only if next time they were on sale.

Eye Shadow -Palladio - Herbal Eyeshadow Trio
RingofFire 6/5/2008 3:01:00 PM
I found this at my local Sallys. I like the packaging nice looking and it came with a generous sized mirror so I could see what I was doing. I bought three of them PTS07-Chocolates l. to r. 2 matte shades; one cream color and dark taupe for shading, one medium shimmer shade. PTS01- Vintage; one whitish matte highlight shade, one slightly shimmer/matte pink shade and one charcoal ray color. PTS12-Shell trio; one medium taupe brown, one light peach shimmer and a golden brown shade for the most part matte but did detect some shimmer that appears in the packaging. This seems to help the colors from not looking totally chalky looking on the lid. There were also some blue-ray trios and green ones but I bypassed these. Each comes with double tipped spone applicator I rarely use sponge applicators anymore, but these are the nicely shaped double tipped kind that I can get into the corners of my eyes. Someone lookin for a heavy shimmer or wild colors may not be wowed by some of the shades some that look slightly shimmer (like the pink in Vintage are more a cross between a soft matte and a barely there pearl texture but for if you wet the colors with a little bit of water in them they will look more ''pearl-like'' or help with the staying power. I did not notice any creasing even without a primer and managed to get through an average 7-8 hour day without fading. All in all a good cheap find. Im happy. UPDATE I do have an extra PTS01- Vintage; that I would be willing to part with as a swap. Would prefer wish list but Im open.

Fragrances -Estee Lauder - White Linen
RingofFire 5/23/2008 11:08:00 AM
Don't care what anybody else says this is one of the few floral perfumes I love and keep going back to. I know this scent does not work for everyone but if it does it has a nice clean floral scent that is not heavy. Like a fresh after a shower smell which I like. I was first introduced to this in my early twenties and before that liked mostly woodsy scents if I wore perfume at all. To me ''old lady'' perfume is straight rose water something your grandma or great- grandma or great aunt wore in the early 1900's. This does not remind me of anything that I have noticED on someone say, of advanced years. I also like that it E/L makes a body lotion for this. At least if someone does have a problem with my perfume I -know I can wear this without offending anyone.

Lips -Everyday Minerals - Girl's Day Lip Gloss
RingofFire 4/14/2008 12:43:00 AM
Love this color --it is almost an exact match to my much loved NARs lip color Medea. Swipe on the Nars and EDM Girls Day side by side by side it is nearly pretty much same color. But I guess the NARS last longer but it is great that I do not have to shell out 23 dollars. Please EDM do not discontinue this shade!!!! UPDATE YES ITS NO LONGER AVAILABLE.

Eye Shadow -Everyday Minerals - baby bath
RingofFire 4/8/2008 8:07:00 PM
I love this color looks like a alternative to Hot Chocolate . I tried on my lids then on my wrist and Baby Bath looked a little more gold -peach in tone on my wrist and had a shimmer formula than pearl like the Hot Chocolate which was more silver gold in tone. Perfect on lids or as a wash. Cant wait till EDM comes out with pressed powders and I hope they do soon. I have light to medium warm-toned skin and this works well on me. More important I can wear this in the daytime without looking ridiculous. I still like Hot Chocolate better though:)

Lip Gloss -Burt's Bees - Burts Bees Lip Shimmers
RingofFire 2/23/2008 8:29:00 PM
Got this shade in Rhubard and I like it enough though not quite warm enough for my light yellow to medium skin, but everything else was perfect; consistency, very moisturizing, I liked the slim head of the tube, great price Buuuuut: the only major gripe I have is it has peppermint oil which stings a bit on my very sensitive lips. Dear Burts Bees : Please take the peppermint oil out as I cannot handle menthol either. I brush my teeth on a regular basis--sometimes 3x a day, and chew spearmint sugarless gum in between meals so really there is NO need for this ingredient. Some of us are very sensitive so taking on lip point off. Would buy again except for the peppermint oil. I need to read labels next time.

Eye Shadow -Everyday Minerals - Veranda
RingofFire 2/21/2008 9:25:00 AM
Light medium lavender shade with subtle sparkles in it. Love this as a shadow. Not sure how this would work on me as a blush as I am more warm toned (MAC Studio Fix NC20) but may try mixing it with other em blush shades to tone the color down. Anyway love this as a lid wash with subtle sparkles. Perfect for day or night! Would repurchase.

Eye Shadow -Everyday Minerals - Wildflowers
RingofFire 2/3/2008 12:25:00 PM
Lovely medium cool taupe brown with some lavender undertones. I like this as my 'go to' everyday subtle crease shade and liner. Some people complain that this shade is too muddy or boring but much can be done to by adding a complimentary tone over or under this shade. My favorite is color to pair with this is Veranda (pale lavender with slight sparkles) which EM markets as a face color, but really works better as an eye shade.

Makeup Brushes -Everyday Minerals - New Flat Top Brush
RingofFire 12/8/2007 11:33:00 AM
When I heard how soft the kabuki was and EM had come out with a flat top, I immediately bought both (See pic). All in all I am very happy with this brush as with the kabuki; it is incredibly soft and the bristle quality is right up there with some high end brushes I think. It applies my foundation quite nicely ---like another reviewer my only mistake was buffing in too much foundation because the brush felt so nice upon my skin. Before this I was pretty much a natural hair makeup brush girl, since my experience with cheap synthetic brushes are often hit or miss. I always thought I would have to shell out $$ for some designer brush to get quality in a synthetic. The only minor negative is the wooden glazed handle that I need to be careful of drying off when washing my brush the glaze will not crack or peel- I usually prefer some kind of plastic. I used a gentle shampoo on my kabuki, reshaped it and let dry. Still, a great bargain in a ten dollar brush. http://img.makeupalley.com/7/0/8/5/825976.JPG PS: Since EM is going all synthetic they are going to revamp their mini kabukis too.

Mascara -Maybelline - Volum Express Mascara
RingofFire 11/9/2007 8:23:00 PM
Nothing really nothing dramatic about this one Buuuuut, nice if I want a natural everyday (work) look. . I didn't notice much volume, but I prefer a lengthening effect anyway and that what I got. Its a very natural look mascara, my lashes very very separated and clump free, best of all I it marked down to less than 3 dollars.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Blast
RingofFire 11/2/2007 1:26:00 PM
It wont stop traffic and unless you never bother with mascara the average person will probably not notice anything unusual about your lashes. It will however nicely thicken, lengthen your lashes without clumping and give them some curl and an uplifted look. I hate eyelash curlers and this mascara did away with the *need* for one. My thin lashes did look at least half their length longer and plumped them up with no flakes or smudging during the day. One coat is enough but I usually swipe 2-3 times quickly then let dry. I did get a slight case of *the clumpies* on one eye this morning a few hairs smashed together, but thats because I'm too lazy to use a lash brush beforehand. Most of the time I don't see the point in doing my lower lashes, but this brought them out a little as well, again no clumps. The first time I tried it, I now sure if it was the plastic brush or the gel formula but it glides on very smoothly. All in all, a nice d/s mascara and will check out the other CG mascaras. Would buy again but would prefer to wait till it goes on sale. UPDATE As much as I like this mascara I believe I am experiencing some sensitivity (eyes tearing in the middle of the day-no pretty sure its not from shadow)from it and need to switch to another brand.
