Primer/ Corrector -BeneFit Cosmetics - That Gal
rated 1 of 5
JudgeJudy41 5/15/2009 10:29:00 AM

I ran out of my Some- Kind- A- Gorgeous ( my fave ) and Benefit online was offering 20% off all merchandise. I like to experiment and try new products, especially with percentage off and free shipping. I got this wild hair and decided to order That Gal too. Big mistake. In the dresser mirror, I had this candle light type glow after applying That Gal. I grabbed my hand mirror and went to the window. That is the true test with all cosmetics. OMG, my face was a light pinkish color! I looked so ridiculous. That Gal did not work under the Dr.Denese tinted moisturizer or the Gorgeous. I presume the reason for the "pink" tint was to be able to wear it alone. I don't advise doing that. Well, I now have access to a Sephora store ( 40 minutes away ) and will do my experiments there.

Self Tanners -Unlisted Brand - COMODYNES Self-Tanning Towelettes
rated 2 of 5
JudgeJudy41 5/13/2009 9:55:00 AM

I have used these but will not purchase again. My negative experience was the towelettes. While there isn't any self tanner scent, these fell apart while applying. I didn't use these like a washcloth, I gently applied as directed. Still, I had them fall apart, and there was very little tanner on each wipe. It took two wipes per arm, leg, chest and back area. I'm not a big person ( 140lbs.) and to get a decent looking tan took twelve wipes. Waaayyy too many for the price. Between the pigment & proteins in our bodies and various/different chemicals in self tanners, not everyone is going to turn orange. If a person turns orange, they can't blame it on the product alone. Comodynes made my skin golden brown, not orange and that's the only positive to using this product.

Treatments (Eye) -Clarins - Super Restorative Total Eye Concentrate
rated 3 of 5
JudgeJudy41 5/11/2009 9:38:00 AM

I've been using 100% Pure's Caffeine eye cream w/minimum results. 100% Pure's has done a good job with lightening my lower eye, but did absolutely nothing for the upper eye lid. I decided to give Clarins eye concentrate a try for the upper eye only. So far, I've only seen about a 20% improvement. Not enough to be completely satisfied. The eye lid creases have softened some, but the crows feet are the same. BTW, I use this faithfully everyday and sometimes twice a day. The Super Restorative Eye Concentrate has a balm texture - meaning it won't shift and get into the eyes. The pump dispenser is nice and gives the right amount. No scent or harsh ingredients to irritate the eye area. My eye lid issues may require aggressive measures. I don't think giving the eye concentrate a 1 rating would be fair. I've never been too fond of Clarins, I dropped them 20 years ago for Elizabeth Arden. Oh well, I can return this for a full refund. Nothing ventured is nothing gained.

Treatments -Clarins - Younger Longer Balm
rated 2 of 5
JudgeJudy41 5/8/2009 11:07:00 AM

I bought this to specifically target my broken capillaries. Of course, I wasn't expecting them to go away completely, but this hasn't done anything to help the cause. The booklet and instructions are easy to follow, but in my opinion is the traditional "fluff" reading material. To summarize...you do this blah, blah, blah - you do that blah, blah, blah. In one months time, my pressing and patting hasn't achieved any cumulative results. Really there is nothing scientific to prove this balm actually works. To slightly quote the brochure that is included, Maritime Pine & Centella Asiatica are titrated by a percentage of their molecules. Its my understanding that not all molecules ( very few ) in skincare can penetrate the epidermis. On the positive side, Younger Longer has good moisturizing ingredients like...Vitamin E and Candlenut Oil. Does that justify the $99.00 price? For that price, you should get an eye lift, facelift and tummy tuck out of it. Like the pump style bottle and less than offensive scent. Actually, I think this smells like powdered laundry detergent. I can live with anything but florals and perfume in skincare. Clarins must own the word titrated, I couldn't find it in two dictionaries. Maybe, they meant titration?

Lotions/ Creams -Crabtree & Evelyn - Summer Hill Body Lotion
rated 4 of 5
JudgeJudy41 5/4/2009 10:49:00 AM

I recieved this as an early Mothers Day gift. The scent is pretty and feminine, but a little overpowering. I find that the case with most Crabtree & Evelyn products. Florals can be my favorite fragrance in lighter forms. Its not the kind of scent that dissipates any time soon - very lingering. It does an excellent job of moisturizing, especially elbows, knees and ankles. If you are young & young at heart this is your fragrance.

Cleansers -DHC - Deep Cleansing Oil
rated 4 of 5
JudgeJudy41 4/25/2009 9:50:00 AM

My skin is the typical menopausal type - maturing & dry. I bought this to remove my daily sunscreen. It works fabulous for that. I take a cotton ball and saturate it ( usually 2 pumps ) and it removes every trace of sunscreen - just make sure to rinse! It made my dry skin feel soooo hydrated. I haven't experienced any breakouts or irritation ( knock on wood ), and the pump bottle is an added bonus. Will work this in my daily skincare routine. A++ p.s. DHC sells this in a smaller pump bottle ( 2.3oz. ) for beginners. Its how I started.

Lotions/ Creams -L'Occitane - 25% shea butter ultra rich body cream
rated 1 of 5
JudgeJudy41 4/20/2009 10:17:00 AM

I found this cream heavy, overpriced and basically useless. It sat on my skin forever ( took awhile to sink in ) and did little to moisturize. The scent was okay, but I didn't expect much. My skin needs a good moisturizer that conditions, smells nice and worth the price. I didn't find that at all with L'Occitane.

Blush -MAC - blushcreme ladyblush
rated 5 of 5
JudgeJudy41 4/19/2009 12:33:00 PM

I've always steered away from creme blush. They tend to streak, hard to apply or color fades in a short time. Not the case with MAC's blushcreme. I lightly dip my finger ( I mean lightly ) into the pot, and gently tap on the apples of my cheeks & temples of the forehead. Because, my skin is so dry, I don't experience much stickiness. This gives a nice flushed, natural look w/out looking clownish. This shade ( ladyblush ) looks great with Flirts Tint -A -Licious in Queen. Both are neutrals and really compliment each other. A++

Lip Treatments -Mary Kay - Timewise Age Fighting Lip Primer
rated 5 of 5
JudgeJudy41 4/15/2009 12:27:00 PM

My review is for the "old" type Mary Kay primer that came in a plastic tube and applied with a finger. The new packaging is a sleek tube and is applied like a lipstick ( much better concept ). I've been using Mary Kay's lip primer for many years. I can't imagine not priming my lips before lipstick/gloss application. Lip primers make a world of difference in staying power, no feathering and keeping lipstick true to color. Primers are affordable and will last for 8 months to a year. Definitely a staple.

Brows -Maybelline - Define-a-brow gel
rated 2 of 5
JudgeJudy41 4/1/2009 9:04:00 AM

This gel is nothing like the original formula from a few years ago. The brush is the same, but that's about it. This goes on extremely wet and that may be due to the excessive amount on the brush. The tube with the original formula was smaller and allowed the right amount of application. I found the original formula held my eye brows in place - all day. With the new gel, my eye brows are out of control within a few hours. I don't want stiff or hard looking brows, but soft and manageable, just like the original offered. I'll keep searching for another alternative. When something isn't broke - don't fix it!

Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Sudden Change
rated 5 of 5
JudgeJudy41 3/28/2009 1:49:00 PM

I've been using the Sudden Change eye serum for about 10 years and couldn't be without it. It comes in a small dropper jar and only takes about 1 small drop per under eye. You need to gently pat it around with your ring finger & in 2 minutes the under eye lines are gone. It tightens without the "egg white" look that you get from Genie in a jar. The formula gives natural results, but does take some practice to get the right amount on. Takes every bit of 10 years off my eyes. However, I want a solution that is permanent & doesn't require surgery or lasers. I'm still checking into decent eye creams.

Hair Color -Clairol - Nice n Easy - Gray Solution
rated 4 of 5
JudgeJudy41 3/28/2009 10:01:00 AM

To begin, I'm about 50% gray with medium length hair. I started using this about 4 months ago and really like it. I use the Light Golden Brown 6G solution . My hair is a medium brown, but found the medium brown was waaay to dark. I leave on for about 35 minutes and rinse for about 10-15 minutes to assure the pre-treatment gel is out. I took off 1 lippie due to the pre-treatment gel burns alittle. However, I find most haircolors irritate some. My hair isn't that long, but it takes two boxes to color it all : ( With the Clairol Colorsilk it only took one box : ) Unfortunately, Colorsilk's formula lasts about 4-5 weeks and I get thru 6-7 weeks on the Gray Solution. The Color Seal Conditioning Gloss ( included ) is the reason my color stays in longer. Walmart sells the gloss alone. I don't think there are any perfect home coloring or salon coloring kits around.

Sunscreen -Unlisted Brand - Devita Daily Solar Protective Moisturizer spf 30
rated 1 of 5
JudgeJudy41 3/24/2009 11:50:00 AM

I don't know where to begin. I recieved this yesterday & put it to the test. Being an avid walker ( 1 1/2 hour walks ) and walking everyday, I need a reliable sunscreen. Yesterday was 70 degrees w/lots of sunshine. After walking, my first inclination was to go to the mirror. My face was flushed and attributed that to my walk. A few hours later, I discovered my face was pink. This morning my face is still alittle pink. I'm like the rest on here about, Devita's use of the number "30" without the SPF in front of it. It makes me feel uneasy about the effectiveness of the product. Anyway, I like how this absorbs without any greasy feel. I don't like that this does not have an expiration date on the box or jar. The main reason for ordering this is because the Devita website states it contains 14% zinc oxide. SkinDeep Cosmetics Safety Database gives this a good rating for UVA/UVB protection ( strong across the board ). My pink face may not agree w/the protection. It may be good protection as long as its fresh. Without an expiration date - who knows? I've been using other products that contain lower levels of zinc oxide like, Dr.Denese & Solar Sense and relatively happy. I really, really hate to return items. It could be the case with this Devita sunscreen. Devita does refund in a 30 day grace period, but does not refund on shipping and handling.

Fragrances -Cacharel - Anais Anais
rated 1 of 5
JudgeJudy41 3/23/2009 7:10:00 PM

Years ago, I took care of an elderly lady that wore this. I thought it smelled great on her. So good, I asked what she was wearing. She said, Anais Anais and it was the only perfume, she has ever worn. I was in Walgreen's last summer & saw it on clearance for $18.00. I couldn't resist and bought it. I came home and tried it immediately. Sadly, I didn't have the right chemistry, and the scent was clearly different on me. I have smelled it on others ( young & old ) and still thought it smelled great. What works for some - doesn't for others.

Treatments -Peter Thomas Roth - Un-Wrinkle Peel Pads
rated 5 of 5
JudgeJudy41 3/22/2009 10:59:00 AM

This is my second week of using these pads & can see a noticeable difference in my pore size ( magnifying mirrors don't lie ). My pores have minimized in size by at least 80%. I wash my face and follow with the pads. I swipe and leave the solution on for about 2 minutes. After that, I thoroughly rinse my face. My skin is ridiculously hyper sensitive and these pads have not caused any irritation or redness. The only problem I have experienced is some minor itching that occurs a few hours later. I may have to go with 30 seconds and then rinse. Other than that - everything is fine. My face feels like glass and it helps my serums and moisturizers sink in better. I'm currently using 2 pads a week and once accustomed, I will use these every other day. I bought these thru QVC and used the easy pay plan. I figure 60 pads will last @ least 4-5 months. I've been using Dr.Denese resurfacing peel ( I really like ), but only get 12 treatments for about $36.00, including s&h. The PTR pads are a better bargain. A++
