Eye Shadow -MAC - Viz-A-Violet pigment
rated 4 of 5
GacktCamui 4/7/2007 2:45:00 AM

I was expecting this to be really similar to Violet pig, but it's not. The color is a bit sheerer and lighter than Violet. I love Violet, but I'm glad it's not the same, kwim? I really wish I had Lovely Lily (heard raves for this), but I missed that LE collection, so I can't compare. When applied, there's a texture/look/sheen to it that reminds me of UD Asphyxia. Can you tell I love purple eyeshadows?

Lipstick -MAC - Up Note
rated 5 of 5

My first amplified cream. This lipstick is AWESOME. Love the feeling and the color. It's kind of a nudish peach color, no shimmer. It's very creamy and feels moisturizing on the lips. I can see this lippie paired with many different looks. Looooove it! Edit: Okay, I just wanted to say that I love this again, despite the fact that the lipstick kind of settles into the lines in my lips. Still, this formula and the coverage and just how long lasting it is makes 5 lippies!

Other -Olay - Vitamins
rated 5 of 5
GacktCamui 3/31/2007 7:03:00 PM

This review is for the the Olay total effects 7x beautiful skin & wellness vitamins (5 pills). I've been taking these for several months already and after the first month, there was a very drastic and positive change in my skin. I'm very oily and I get very angry hormonal acne around my right jawline, and the occasional zit on my forehead, especially around the TOM. No sort of topical skincare has helped with those cysts at all. I've taken Chinese herbal medicine for several months in the hopes that it would help internally, but no luck there, either. However, I didn't doubt that the problem stemmed from some sort of internal problem. I heard raves of the vitamins on the board and elsewhere, and after the first month, those angry hormonal cysts have disappeared. I have a bit of scarring, but in combination with AHA's, they are getting much better. I can't say that this has improved the oiliness of my skin, but hey, oil is supposed to prevent aging :) I will continue to buy these vitamins, because they make such a great combination! I have to eat something prior to taking these however - twice I forgot to take them with food and and my stomach became unsettled enough for me to throw up. They often go on sale at Rite Aid (BOGOF sometimes, too), so I think it's a great deal. The packs are also convenient to carry around.

Mascara -Rimmel - Lycra Lash Extender
rated 3 of 5
GacktCamui 3/25/2007 10:48:00 PM

This is a decent mascara. I bought it because I had done my eye make-up, got on the bus, and realized I HAD NO MASCARA ON! I absolutely cannot stand it when people do their eye makeup and wear no mascara, or even at the least, do not curl their eyelashes. I was determined not to be like one of them, so I bought mascara as soon as I could before I got into work. It doesn't volumize at all, and as everyone has mentioned, there is definitely the issue with it drying out very quickly. After it dries out, it gets a bit clumpy. It lengthens okay, but it doesn't hold a curl. It can't beat Shu basic in lengthening and curl holding.

Lipstick -MAC - Charm Factor
rated 5 of 5
GacktCamui 3/25/2007 10:39:00 PM

This color is really gorgeous! I've heard raves on the board for this lipstick and I finally bought it before the MAC site took it off (it's LE). It's a pretty corally pink that brings color to my face. In the tube, it does look a bit common, but sometimes it's just that gradation of color that makes the difference between common and a rare find.

Liquid -MAC - Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15
rated 3 of 5
GacktCamui 3/25/2007 10:35:00 PM

I bought this because I was in desperate need of a full coverage foundation. I had used the powder version previously, but I had switched to MMU for the better match and overall glow. My skin was blotchy and breaking out terribly and I needed something heavier than MMU. The MAC MA was GREAT and did a really good job applying the foundation on me when I was matched. I have to mention that the skin on my face and my neck tend to be different colors - my neck more yellow and my face more pale and neutral. As many have mentioned, SFF tends to be extremely yellow, and even on my pale Asian skin, it is a bit too deep and yellowy. However, it matches my neck pretty well. When I applied this myself, I made the mistake of putting on WAY too much and it just ended up looking like a disgusting yellow mask on me. The MA recommended I use a brush to prevent bacteria growth, and I do like applying with a brush. The trick is shake up the bottle, and touch my brush gently to the layer of foundation that sits on top of the hole. Apply lightly, sheer it out, and repeat. This foundation is really good for building up coverage. I've invested in a pump, and I recommend that everyone do so.

Edit: After playing with my foundations in natural light, I don't think the color is a good match for me. It looks orangey for some reason :( Also, it is hard to work with and hard to blend evenly... not good if you have any flaky areas.

Cleansers -La Vitton - Olive Forte - Water Soluble Facial Cleansing Oil
rated 5 of 5
GacktCamui 3/25/2007 10:24:00 PM

This is a really high quality facial cleansing oil. As reported on their site, there aren't any weird chemicals in the oil. Very nice emulsion when you finally add water and rinses off well. It leaves my skin very soft and moisturized, not stripped or dry at all. Takes off my make-up like a dream, even my eye make-up! I believe the price has really jumped since I last bought it (about a year ago), but I would repurchase.

Eye Shadow -Urban Decay - Asphyxia
rated 5 of 5
GacktCamui 3/25/2007 10:21:00 PM

Love this shadow! I can't do pinks, but I can do lilacs and lavenders. This is a nice combination of both. There's this duo color effect in this shadow which reflects very beautifully. UD shadows are such great quality! Very blendable and smooth. I would repurchase this and more.

Misc Beauty Tools -Shiseido - Eyelash Curler
rated 4 of 5
GacktCamui 3/25/2007 10:19:00 PM

This is a good curler! For comparison, I also have the Shu curler. To me, I really cannot tell the difference. I haven't had any pinching with my Shu and I don't get any pinching with the Shi either. I even compared them side by side and at several angles, and I actually couldn't really tell any differences in shape or anything like that - maybe I'm not looking hard enough! But, this is cheaper than the Shu by 2 dollars or so - not much of a difference - but I would repurchase both nonetheless.
Edit: Okay, so after trying this for a few days, there is a bit of pinching :( Overall, the Shu fits my eyeshape better. And I realize there's some sort of war going on between which curler is better, but it's not about which curler is better, it's about which ones fits your eye!

Lip Gloss -Yves Saint Laurent - Golden Gloss 10 - Golden Peony
rated 5 of 5
GacktCamui 3/4/2007 11:39:00 PM

Pure love. My very first Golden Gloss and I do not regret it at all. I can't even begin to describe it. It is a sheer soft pink with gold shimmer/glitter but not frosty. The taste/smell is a little bit ew, but it fades quickly. Very balmy and smooth and not sticky. Must get more golden glosses!

Mascara -Yves Saint Laurent - Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils
rated 4 of 5
GacktCamui 3/4/2007 8:50:00 PM

Ahhhh, this may be my HG volume and length mascara! For length and curl alone, my HG is Shu Uemura Basic. Although the YSL doesn't hold a curl that well for me, it is ultra lengthening and volumizing WITHOUT the clumps. I used L'Oreal Voluminous for a while and I absolutely HATED the clumping. I don't have particularly sparse or thick lashes, and YSL does not clump at all. I would say it works like, if not better, than MF or Covergirl's lash comb brushes. The black is very black, and when I wear sunglasses, my lashes actually brush up against the lens. It is fragranced, which is kind of nice. It retails for about $25, I believe, and I would definitely purchase again.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Pigment in Violet
rated 5 of 5
GacktCamui 1/20/2007 3:32:00 PM

My second favorite pigment! Violet is just a gorgeous purple color! It blends well with many colors and you can you pack it on or sheer it out. Use it for smokey eyes, pair with green shadow or liner... I honestly do not know what else to say about it except that I love it.

Blush -NARS - Cream Blush in Penny Lane
rated 4 of 5
GacktCamui 1/20/2007 3:25:00 PM

Although this is a very nice neutral blush, I probably won't purchase it again. It looks really similar to one of the WnW twist up blush sticks. Very pretty and would go well with anything, but not unique enough to buy again, if that makes any sense.

Blush -Cargo - Mendocino
rated 4 of 5
GacktCamui 1/20/2007 3:22:00 PM

Mendocino is a deep, shimmery, plummy color. Definitely not a color I go to most of the time (especially for day), but I can see this as a very lovely blush for evening. I am NC15 for reference and I prefer pinks and peaches. I don't find myself reaching for this very often, but it is good to have :) As with all Cargo blushes, there's a ton of product.

Eye Shadow -MAC - AMBER LIGHTS
rated 4 of 5
GacktCamui 12/31/2006 6:14:00 PM

Normally I would never buy this type of color because orangey bronze on my eyes tends to make me look dead. But I saw this tutorial with a girl who used Amber Lights and I just had to try it. The texture of this stuff is just INCREDIBLE. It is so rich and pigmented, and almost creamy. It was easy to blend with a couple taupes to tone down the orange, and I was surprised that it didn't look bad on me! An overall very beautiful and unique color that I would buy again.
