Shampoo -Kerastase - Bain de Force
CombatWombat 1/8/2009 10:53:00 PM
This shampoo and matching conditioner have made a huge difference in the strength and texture of my recently (and very, very badly) highlighted hair - what was once mooshy, tangled and snapping off is now approaching some semblance of normal human hair. The shampoo is very rich and gentle, and the conditioner only needs to be left on for a minute in order to work. My only gripes (aside from the price, obviously) are the overly strong scent and the inconvenient bottle. However, I'll overlook these complaints in light of the great results I've gotten. Use with the matching conditioner for results.

Treatments -L'Oreal - Nature's Therapy Mega Moisture Hair Treatment
CombatWombat 1/8/2009 10:07:00 PM
Huh. My hair just doesn't like this product. Feels lovely and silky in the shower while I'm rinsing, but once my hair dries, it actually feels coarser and drier than it would before the treatment. I'm not sure what ingredient is causing this and I'm hesitant to finger the amodimethicone, as cones don't seem to bother my hair one way or the other, but something isn't right. Also, the tub packaging is inconvenient and the fragrance is very high on the ingredients list (more perfume than sunflower oil - yuck) and is pretty overwhelming. I won't be repurchasing, and I'm up in the air about whether or not I'll use this on my hair again. Perhaps it will make a decent shaving cream.

Skincare - Body -Sukí - Suki Delicate Moisture Body Oil
CombatWombat 11/19/2008 9:14:00 PM
Beautiful body oil. The texture is very rich and sensual, it absorbs quickly and left my skin feeling soft for most of the day. I had to use quite a bit more than I would have liked, so this product would get expensive very quickly. Also, while I love the vetiver scent, this oil does have a very strong, distinctive scent, so don't buy unsniffed. I would probably buy a full sized bottle if the money fairy swooped down and smacked my bank account with her wand.

Cleansers -Dove - Gentle Exfoliating Daily Facial Cleanser
CombatWombat 11/19/2008 7:41:00 PM
I found this formula surprisingly drying, and it left a film on my face. Used up the tube by washing my hands with it, and it did a nice job there.

Cleansers -Dove - Deep Moisture creamy facial cleanser
CombatWombat 11/19/2008 7:38:00 PM
Surprisingly this dried out my rather oily skin and left it feeling sensitized. Dove Sensitive and Cool Moisture cleansers are much more agreeable and my skin feels clean and comfortable after using either. Don't know what went wrong with this particular formulation. Dove products do have the ultimate comfort scent though, don't they?

Scrubs -Ren - Jojoba Microbead Purifying Facial Scrub
CombatWombat 11/15/2008 10:30:00 PM
Smells beautiful, so woodsy and refreshing. Gentle and non-irritating, and you do get a pretty big bottle with a convenient pump on top. Packaging is the best I've seen. Not the most effective exfoliator, for a creamy, jojoba bead scrub I like Trilogy better, although I think Ren might actually be cheaper (there's a frightening thought). If I found it on sale I'd repurchase, but I certainly don't have to have it. Will try other Ren products though.

Mascara -BeneFit Cosmetics - Get Bent Mascara [DISCONTINUED]
CombatWombat 11/13/2008 9:33:00 PM
This mascara came free with an issue of Aussie Vogue, which is good, as I'd be furious had I actually purchased it. The wand is a goopy mess and collects way too much product. It's surprisingly difficult to apply and gives me the worst clumpy spider lashes you can imagine. After several attempts to blog it off and separate my lashes with a tissue, I still looked like something out of a horror movie. The mascara then proceeded to flake off and blacken the skin under my eyes for the rest of the day. This must be fairly expensive too, no? Save your pennies, this mascara is not worth the trouble. I haven't thrown it out yet though. Maybe I'll use it for an art project. Comes in a shiny silver tube that might look nice as part of a mobile.

Lip Treatments -Alba Botanica - Pineapple Quench lip balm
CombatWombat 11/13/2008 9:26:00 PM
Smells cute but has a weird, grainy texture. Has a weird tendency to squat on the lips rather than sinking in. Could be worse though.

Lotions/ Creams -Unlisted Brand - Whole Foods 365 Fragrance Free Body Lotion
CombatWombat 11/9/2008 7:27:00 PM
I actually have this lotion in the herbal mint scent, which smells fantastic, gives a slight tingle and doesn't irritate my skin. This is a very good moisturizer - although it feels greasy or waxy going on, it sinks in quickly and leaves my skin feeling comfortable all day. I'd go for something a bit thicker for the winter, but this makes me think of beautiful summery nights.

Sunscreen -Alba Botanica - Green Tea Spf 30 Sunscreen
CombatWombat 11/9/2008 6:16:00 PM
The best sunscreen I've used - no greasies, no irritation, no breakout, no gross sunscreen smell. I'm very fair skinned and used this sunscreen exclusively in Mexico in August without burning at all. A little tan did sneak through, but I'm of the belief that a slight tan is healthier than nothing. This product has been reformulated since I last bought a tube, so I'll update when I try the new formula. Hopefully it will perform just as well!

Toners -Thayers - Alcohol-free Witch Hazel toner with aloe vera
CombatWombat 10/18/2008 9:03:00 PM
Very pleased with Thayers overall, but this toner is by far my favorite. It's light and soothing, especially on fussy skin - I put this into a small spray bottle and mist over my face before applying lotion, or spray onto my scalp when it itches. Feels cooling and healthy, and I can't get enough of the scent. If Thayers ever decided to market the fragrance of this product as a perfume, I'd be the first in line to snap it up.

Fragrances -Estee Lauder - Sensuous
CombatWombat 9/23/2008 6:42:00 AM
Not bad, but I agree with other reviewers, it's much too sweet. Had EL left the smokiness that Chandler Burr claims to have smelled in an earlier formulation, I think this would have been great. As it is, it smells a sugar cookie spritzed with Burberry. That said, this would smell out of this world on a guy.

Terrible for clumping, smudging, getting all over my eyelids. Makes my eyes water.

Shampoo -Jason Natural Cosmetics - extra rich Natural Sea Kelp conditioner
CombatWombat 6/19/2008 9:23:00 PM
Great daily conditioner. I already gushed about this product in a review for the matching shampoo, so in the interest of sparing the innocent from my over-the-top prose, I'll just say this: best conditioner I've tried.

Shampoo -Jason Natural Cosmetics - Natural Sea Kelp Shampoo
CombatWombat 6/19/2008 9:20:00 PM
I am notoriously unfaithful to my hair products. My shower is a rolling, slippery mess of bottles used for a month and then cast off in boredom or disappointment, and I'm constantly being lured in by aspirational packaging and nice scents. Jason Sea Kelp Shampoo and Conditioner are not glamorous; they come in ugly plastic bricks and smell questionable out of the bottle. In short, they're frumpy. But zounds, they work! This combination handles the daily shower with gentle ease, cleansing my roots and moisturising my tips without a whisper of detergent, sharp perfumes or waxy buildup. To be honest, I have great hair to start with, and this shampoo and conditioner combo isn't exactly a miracle worker. However, if you're looking for the perfect solution for your daily wash, give Jason Sea Kelp a try. These are the only hair care products I would consistently repurchase.
