Powder -Cover Girl - TruBlend Minerals Pressed Mineral Foundation [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5

I saw this at Wal-mart, went home & looked it up on the internet, but when I went back to the store, it was all gone. However, I got this #3 (natural beige) for $4 on e-bay. My skin is rather olive (especially in the dead of winter), put it side by side with my NC35 Studio Fix, this is just a tad too pink, but this is just myself, for a lot of people this is a good neutral color. It gives a sheer but buildable coverage, doesn't have that chalky look, covers up pores, doesn't really feel dry over my dry skin, although I will avoid it around the eyes & crow feet area. It is as good as some $35 powder foundation.

Liquid -Cover Girl - TRUblend Liquid Makeup (12/2007 reformulation)
rated 1 of 5
Hawko 1/26/2008 7:05:00 PM

I have the old version of Trublend foundation, in Buff beige & soft honey, I mixed it to match my NC 30-40 skin tone. But when the Trublend cream foundation came out, I abandoned the former. This new version seemed to simplified the color selection, I am a medium towards light in winter with yellow undertone, so I picked #3; without even examining the product too much, they have flourescent light in the store anyway. OMG when I got it home, put it side by side to my Prescriptives foundation, this #3 looks slightly lilac, put it on my skin, it covers & even with a dewy finish alright, but definitely gave me a pinky/whitish cast (at times it even looks greyish white). When will Cover Girl see the light & stop making those unhumanly colors. BTW I don't have trouble with the cream version of this product.

Powder -Milani - Minerals Compact Makeup
rated 5 of 5
Hawko 1/25/2008 5:46:00 PM

I bought this based from the reviews on MUA; I am a sucker for powder foundation. I paid $4 on e-bay, I am NC30-40, I ordered the true beige. It works on my oily t-zone as well as my dry cheeks, no glittery/luminous particles, which I truly despise. It just evens my skin tone which is my biggest issue. I used a brush instead of the pad included. The powder is not as tightly packed as some compact foundation, so use a light hand while swirling the powder. I assumed that it will not last as long, hey but for that price, this is not an issue. I planned to try their other foundations. BTW this does not have any pink/peachy tone, just true true beige. Definitly re-purchase.

Skincare - Face -Elizabeth Grant - essence of torricelumn
rated 3 of 5
Hawko 1/23/2008 8:57:00 PM

I get this as a bonus from one of Elizabeth Grant's kit through the TSC , its too expensive to purchase on its own. It comes in a little pump vial, I mean little, maybe no more than 15 drops in that bottle. Why not put it in a bigger bottle? Its always sold as a set of 4 or 6 or 8 anyway, some of the product cannot be emptied completely because of the pumping mechanism. Its a good light moisturiser in the warmer seasons for myself. I will never buy it on its own due to the crazy price. UPDATE: I bump it down to 3 lippies, did nothing, neither texture, nor feeling, just a light light moisturiser.

Skincare - Face -Elizabeth Grant - Torricelumn Pur Skin Renewal AM and PM serum
rated 3 of 5
Hawko 1/23/2008 8:44:00 PM

Nowadays every cosmetics has to have a "buzz" word, the moment I felt it, the miracle product is "glycerin", substitute that word with Torrica ... whatever. Its a good moisturizer, I use it alone sometimes without moisturizer on top, the day & night are the same, (lighter & heavier); its just a marketing scheme. I have several sets stock up from TSC just in case she is no long there, like Morgan Schick, Signature Club A, Serious Skincare, to name a few. Everytime she appears on TSC, the serum seemed to take on a new appearance; claiming that it has better ingredients & more advanced technology. If thats the truth, what about the claims she made during the previous/older version of the serum. To sum it up, its a good moisture booster.

Moisturizers -Elizabeth Grant - Collagen miracle
rated 3 of 5
Hawko 1/23/2008 8:35:00 PM

A decent moisturiser, as a matter of fact, I do not find any difference between this product and their serum series, only a little less heavy. Even for my dry area, I will not use it during the day, it takes a longer time to sink in; but in the evening when I need an extra boost of moisture, it reached for that. It comes in a pump bottle which I like, more sanitize. The collagen will never reach the dermal layer, thus will not firm the skin, but topically makes a good barrier to slow down evaporation.

Skincare - Face -Juju Aquamoist - Juju Aquamoist Cream
rated 4 of 5
Hawko 1/21/2008 6:52:00 PM

I purchased this as well as the serum in mid December, the serum is vertually traceless & being absorbed by the skin. However this milky gel, (not a cream as the name suggests) sits on top & felt tacky. For those who knows about Signature Club A peralized morning cream, its just like that, use a tad too much, the face is like a Venus fly-trap. This product is clear & does not have the pearlized/glimming particles like Signature Club A does. Now its the middle of January in Canada & its minus 12C outside. I kept putting layer & layers of cream on my face & the skin still feels dehydrated. My favourite powder/mineral foundation for the rest of the year looks horrible on me. Today I used the serum followed with a thin layer of this gel/cream, 1 minutes later a thin layer of Olay Definity cream (which is also a gel), the skin is totally satisfied. Having said that, I will stay away from this product coming in April/May as the weather gets milder. I took a lippie because it comes in a jar, I wish more manufacturers will put their product in a squeeze/pump/ tube.

Treatments -Juju Aquamoist - juju cosmetics aquamoist essence
rated 5 of 5
Hawko 1/21/2008 6:38:00 PM

I remembered using the cream by Juju, a Japanese cosmetic company. The cream has 3 versions, for teens, mid-age & those after that. I did my search on the internet & could not find them, instead the aquamoist came up. It looks like the Cellex C Hydra B complex, which I like but doesn't agree with the price. I purchased that as well as the cream from Sasa.com I received them in mid December. I used 4-5 drops after cleansing, it sank in without a trace, pore seems unnoticable, In the cold Canadian winter, I can put layers of heavy cream on my dry skin & although the cream appeared to sink in, the skin can still feel tight & look dehydrated. But put the cream on top of this hyaluronic acid serum, voila, the skin is satisfied. Having said that & knowing my skin, most like I will go easy on it when the weather gets warmer. Definitely will re-purchase.

Foundations -MAC - Studio Mist Foundation [DISCONTINUED]
rated 2 of 5
Hawko 1/20/2008 3:33:00 PM

If you have perfect or near perfect skin & need a wow look, use it. Otherwise, for those with issues that don't want to world to see it, hmmm .... doesn't hide anything. The SA actually spray on a dry tissue, swirl the brush over it & apply, that is such a waste of product, though it gives a sheer, luminous look. I am NC 30-40 and bought the light medium, good shade. I will use it after all the make up routine, & then buff it with a brush for a more luminous look for those drab wintery days. Will not re-purchase.

Foundations -MAC - Hypereal [DISCONTINUED]
rated 1 of 5
Hawko 1/20/2008 3:24:00 PM

This is one of those "luminous" (if you like it) or glittery/shiny (if you don"t) foundation; doesn't covers well, and the texture seems thick. Not for me.

Liquid -mark - Face XPert
rated 4 of 5
Hawko 1/20/2008 1:12:00 PM

I am a medium olive, NC 35, sometimes NW 25, I use the light-medium of this foundation. For my combo; dry with oily T-zone, I can actually use this foundation all over. It gives a sheer & natural glow without that luminosity "sweaty look", for more coverage, use the Mark powder foundation on top. I never believe in expensive cosmetics anyway although I have a few of them but most are doozzies. One may find it has an offensive smell, but disappeared upon application. I prefer that than additional perfumy fragrance to mask it like the speedway stick. The tricky package makes the product appears twice the size!! Will definitely re-purchase.

Powder -mark - Powder Buff powder foundation
rated 4 of 5
Hawko 1/20/2008 12:56:00 PM

I am a Mac NC 35, sometimes NW 25, depending on the season, with yellow undertone, I also use the Mark Speedway stick foundation in Natural. However, I find the Natural shade in the Powder Buff powder foundation too dark & yellow (the first product I find too yellow, lol). I exchanged for the Buff & is a good match, A matte look instead of the horrible "luminous" /shiny powder. I won't use it during the Canadian winter season. But worked great for me for the rest of the year. Instead of the sponge, I used a brush for application. Note: Actually I find if the powder is too yellow, a stroke of blush will compensate afterwards ,on the contrary if the foundation is too pink or peachy, there's not much I can do . A standard package for powder foundation.Definitely will re-purchase.

Crème -mark - Speedway Do Everything Foundation Stick
rated 3 of 5
Hawko 1/20/2008 12:47:00 PM

I forgot why I purchased this. I am Mac NC 35 with yellow undertone, I find Natural is a good match although Buff is just a tad lighter which is OK in winter. The texture is good for my normal/dry skin. It makes the skin glow & looks natural, putting a little more or less doesn't affect the finish. Sometimes I just touch the stick on my cheek & slide, then blend. However, I will not use it in summer or on my T-zone though. Its small & cute, can't beat the price. For those with issues like acne scar & liver spots, this may not do the trick though.

Misc Beauty Tools -Unlisted Brand - Dermawand
rated 1 of 5
Hawko 1/17/2008 10:39:00 PM

I bought this through the Shopping Channel (Canada) b/c of the review here. I used it for 2 weeks, beginning from the lowest to highest setting, on top of my night treatment. Doesn't do a thing for me, waste of time & money. The design of the wand is so 1960s. Edit June 2009. I realized the Dermawand was sitting there for a long time, it was bedtime & I wasn't that tired so I plugged it in & killed some time, guess what, the darn time went ka-putt, dead, motionless. Haaa, I don't believed I used a total of 60 minutes on this gadget. Don't waste your money on this, buy some snake-oil instead.

Fragrances -Acqua di Parma - Blu Mediterraneo Arancia
rated 4 of 5
Hawko 1/16/2008 7:10:00 PM

I love this, I love all citrusy scent, and the dry down smells like crushed leaves. Too bad, as with all citrus scent, it doesn't last more than 15 minutes on me. Some people complained scent only last 2-3 hours. If all citrusy scent last 1-2 hours, I am happy. Its not cheap, around $100 for a 4 oz bottle. The reason I will not buy it again is because something new & different will come out by the time this bottle is finished.
