Moisturizers -Jason Natural Cosmetics - 98% Aloe Vera Super Gel
rated 5 of 5
ruby_tea_roses 2/2/2006 8:33:00 AM

I really like Jason Natural Cosmetics 98% Aloe Vera Super Gel. It is moisturizing, soothing and cooling on the skin. My son is beginning to get break-outs of acne, yet his skin is very sensitive also, so I bought him the Burts Bees Wild Lettuce face soap, Burts Bees Wild Lettuce Toner and the Jason Natural's 98% Aloe Vera Gel. His skin looks so clear and nice now! He washes and tones with the Wild Lettuce products by Burts Bees every morning and night, and then he follows that with a very light application of the Jason Natural's 98% Aloe Vera gel all over his face as a light, oil-free moisturizer. His skin is slightly oily with a tendency to break out, and the Jason 98% Aloe Vera gel adds just enough oil-free moisture to keep his skin hydrated and replenish moisture stripped from his skin from the cleanser and toner, but not too much moisture so as to clog his pores or cause an unpleasant after-feel. It leaves a nice matte finish. It's in an attractive green plastic bottle too ..... very "manly" looking next to the sink for a teen boy (that matters you know! haha!). Definitely will purchase again!

Powder -Bare Escentuals - Bare Minerals in 1.2, fairly light
rated 5 of 5
ruby_tea_roses 2/2/2006 7:41:00 AM

I like this powder foundation a lot. The 1.2 is a perfect match for my skin. It goes on easily and leaves an nice smooth finish to my skin. I have oily skin and large pores on my nose, and Bare Escentuals foundation smooths them over nicely. The key is not to put on too much. When I first started using Bare Escentuals powders, I would put on WAY too much because I was used the "heavy" feeling of liquid foundations on my skin. The powder would then, of course, gunk up in my pores and make them more obvious. The trick is to apply it lightly and then follow with an application of Bare Minerals Mineral Veil on top. I have oily skin, so I use a very generous amount of Mineral Veil on top to help absorb shine throughout the day. If you have any acne marks or other spots on your skin that you want to cover, use the little tiny brush and spot treat them with extra foundation, but keep the overall application light. I think most problems come when people use a heavy-hand with this foundation. Another good idea is to try using a "skin primer" on your skin before applying the Bare Escentuals powder foundation. A really nice face skin primer that will smooth out skin tone and smooth over pores is "DHC Velvet Skin Coat". Apply DHC's Velvet Skin Coat, let it dry for a minute or two and then apply your Bare Escentuals foundation .... I have tried that and it works nicely too. But usually I get too busy for adding that extra step and so I only use the Velvet Skin Coat sometimes ... it does create a nice "pore-less" appearance to your skin though.

Cleansers -DHC - Mild Cleansing Soap
rated 5 of 5
ruby_tea_roses 2/1/2006 12:04:00 PM

DHC's Mild Cleansing Soap lathers nicely and is very creamy and comforting on the skin. I use it after washing with DHC's Cleansing Oil, and it leaves my skin smooth, soothed and slightly moisturized. It cleans very well for such a gentle cleanser. I will definitely purchase again.

Cleansers -DHC - Deep Cleansing Oil
rated 5 of 5
ruby_tea_roses 2/1/2006 11:56:00 AM

I cannot even tell you how scared I was to try this cleanser. But it had sooo many great reviews that I just had to try it! My curiousity got the best of me! I have oily/combo skin, and the LAST thing I would ever imagine putting on my face was MORE OIL! Well, let me tell you, this cleansing oil is different than anything I have ever tried before! The oil actually DISSOLVES the make-up and natural skin oils on my face! Then you rinse with warm water and it rinses absolutely clean! No oily residue! I was shocked to say the least. I then followed that with a light washing with the DHC Mild Soap which was also very soothing and creamy. Afterwards I just kept touching my skin on my face and could not believe how smooth and clean it was ..... but it was not stripped, tight and dry like it usually is from my harsher cleansers. I will definitely continue to buy this cleansing oil for as long as DHC carries it! It is that good! Try it!

Skincare - Face -DHC - Acerola Gel
rated 5 of 5
ruby_tea_roses 2/1/2006 11:44:00 AM

I like DHC's Acerola Gel Moisturizer very much. It is very lightweight, oil-free and soothing for my skin. I have oily/combo skin, and the Acerola Gel Moisturizer is oil-free so it never clogs my pores or causes break-outs. It is loaded with Vitamin C too (from the Acerola berries) which is wonderful, because Vitamin C is sooooo good for your skin! Vitamin C is an antioxidant, so it helps prevent oxidative damage to the skin which leads to skin damage and wrinkles. Vitamin C also helps to repair skin from past sun damage. The Acerola Gel is a typical gel consistancy and so I mix it in my hand with DHC's Acerola 100 serum (which is thin and runny like water)... the Acerola 100 serum is an Acerola concentrate and vitamin drink for the skin. Then I rub both hands together and apply them to my face and neck. My skin is much brighter, more even toned and I see a definite reduction in the fine lines around my eyes, mouth and on my forehead. DHC's Acerola line of products is a winner and I will definitely purchase again!

Skincare - Face -DHC - Acerola Lotion (toner)
rated 5 of 5
ruby_tea_roses 2/1/2006 11:32:00 AM

I really like the Acerola Lotion (Toner). It is packed with Vitamin C from the acerola berries, and Vitamin C is an antioxidant and helps to repair skin damage from past sun exposure. I have oily/combo skin, and this toner deep cleans, but also leaves my skin feeling very soothed and cool. After using this toner, I follow with the Acerola 100 serum and Acerola Gel Moisturizer - the Acerola 100 serum is very thin (like water) so I mix it with the Acerola Gel Mosturizer in my hand, then rub both hands together and apply to my skin. My skin is definitely brighter and more even toned from using the Acerola Toner, Acerola 100 and Acerola Gel Moisturizer. I will definitely buy again!

Cleansers -Cetaphil - Gentle Skin Cleanser
rated 5 of 5
ruby_tea_roses 1/30/2006 11:54:00 AM

I love Cetaphil! I use Cetaphil in a somewhat unusual way though, I think. I am VERY sensitive in my "feminine area" and cannot use any cleanser in that area that has fragrances, dyes, detergents, etc... Regular soap and cleansers will sting and cause me to have pain all day and even cause me to develop a urinary tract infection. I have tried Summer's Eve wash, Vagisil wash, Very Private brand feminine wash, SweetSpot feminine wash and other feminine washes, as well as Dove soap and many other "moisturizing" soaps .... and they all sting also (even the sensitive skin formulations). Finally, I read about Cetaphil and how gentle and moisturizing it is, so I tried it. It works great! It cleans gently and causes no irritation. It is truly like washing with lotion but better! It cleans your skin but does not strip away the important layer of moisture that your skin needs to protect itself from irritation. I love this stuff! It is very soothing for my skin. It should be marketed as a feminine wash, because it is WAY better and more gentle than Summer's Eve, Vagisil, Very Private and SweetSpot. 5 little lipsticks for this one!!!

Moisturizers -Jason Natural Cosmetics - Aqua Moist Balancing SPF Lotion
rated 2 of 5
ruby_tea_roses 1/29/2006 4:12:00 PM

Jason Natural Cosmetics "Aqua Moist Balancing Lotion" is for oily skin, and is supposed to have blue-green algae in it to control exess oil. Well, it did not control any excess oil on my skin and actually made me break out. It also made my pores noticably larger. Day after day I used it, and each day my pores looked larger than the day before. Finally I suspected it might be this moisturizer, so I inspected the ingredients carefully, and found that it has wax in it. The wax must have been getting down into my pores and staying there (even though I wash and exfoliate everyday). I stopped using this moisturizer and went back to my old moisturizer and my pores began to slowly return to normal. My break-outs stopped too after I stopped using this product. Jason Natural's Balancing Cleanser and Toner both work really well and I like them both, but this Balancing Moisturizer did not work well with my skin. It obviously works well with other people skin, because I see that many people have written good reviews of it ..... but personally, for me, it did not work well on my skin.

Cleansers -Avalon Organics Botanicals - Vitamin C Facial Cleanser
rated 4 of 5
ruby_tea_roses 1/29/2006 3:58:00 PM

Nice basic face cleanser. It washes off all of my Bare Escentuals make-up as well as sunscreen and eye make-up. I have combo/oily skin and it does not dry out my skin. I have not noticed any skin texture/tone enhancement from using this product, but as a general face cleanser it works well, removes make-up and doesn't dry out my skin. It has natural ingredients also which is nice.

Tools -Alexis Vogel - The Alexis Vogel System
rated 1 of 5
ruby_tea_roses 1/29/2006 3:44:00 PM

Ugh! This system is so expensive and the products are so awful! I bought the Alexis Vogel System because I am a sucker for late-night infomercials. I don't know how many times I have to be disappointed by infomercial products before I stop buying them. This one was a very expensive lesson. The products were garish and reminded me of cheesy, low-quality 1920's make-up .... like the bright, un-natural colors my grandma used to wear when I was little - hot pink lipstick, clown pink cheeks, eyeshadow with huge, obvious sparkles (not fine-milled "lumenescent glow" kind of sparkles .... just large hunks of sparkle pieces! Ugh!). The foundation is too dry, and who on earth lines the INSIDE of their eyelids anymore??? That went out in 1979 and should never even have been "in" in the first place... it makes your eyes look smaller. About the only thing that I even have a use for from this system is the plastic travel bag it all came in! And that probably costs all of $1.00 .... nice that I paid $200.00 for a $1.00 plastic bag! Don't waste your money.

Fragrances -Bulgari - Petits et Mamans
rated 5 of 5
ruby_tea_roses 1/27/2006 12:45:00 PM

I have chemical sensitivities, and almost all perfumes give me terrible headaches. I love "Petits et Mamans" by Bulgari because it smells so soft and light and it never gives me a headache. I can spray it all over myself - drench myself in it if I want to - and it will never give me a headache or any negative reaction! It must be the ultra gentle/non-toxic ingredients in it (because it is formulated for little children) that enable me to wear it all over everyday. It smells wonderful too! Like baby powder with a hint of tea. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!!! I will absolutely buy again and again! (*** I also recommend "Burberry Baby Touch" - it is very similar to Petits et Mamans - it is a baby powder scent with a distinct lemon twist. It is a teensy bit sharper than the Petits et Mamans because of the lemony hints in it, but it is still just as soft and gentle as the Petit et Mamans. I like them both very much. I wear whichever one suits my mood for that particular day .... Petit et Mamans for my comfy, slow, easy-going days (powder & tea scent)...... and Burberry Baby Touch for my more energetic, fast-paced days (the bright lemony powder scent). They are both wonderful, soft fragrances!

Love this Body Wash! Jason Naturals Rosewater and Glycerin Satin Shower Body Wash is my favorite body wash! The scent is so calming, soft and relaxing. It is very moisturizing and leaves my sensitive skin feeling soft and comfortable. Natural ingredients and amazingly low price (found the large 30 oz bottle online for $6.00) make this a really great purchase! Will absolutely buy again!

Lotions/ Creams -Jason Natural Cosmetics - Rosewater and Glycerine Lotion
rated 5 of 5
ruby_tea_roses 1/26/2006 8:40:00 AM

Love this Jason Naturals Rosewater Lotion! It's not your typical rose scent. It's more of a light rose-hinted/soapy/clean scent. Not sure what glycerine smells like, but maybe that is what the "soapy/clean" smell is in this Lotion. I have a million rose scented products, and it is nice to have one that is a little different like Jason Rosewater and Glycerine Lotion. Wonderful when used in conjunction with Jason's Rosewater Body Satin shower gel (shower gel smells more like rose flowers and not glycerin)! Will definitely buy again!

Treatments (Eye) -Jason Natural Cosmetics - Red Elements Lifting Eye Cream
rated 4 of 5
ruby_tea_roses 1/26/2006 8:30:00 AM

A basic eye cream. Natural ingredients which is nice. It claims to have peptides, copper and red algea to help firm skin and promote collagen production. I didn't notice any major anti-aging differences in my skin, but it was very hydrating and seemed to be good as far as keeping skin moist and supple. Absorbed nicely, not greasy, very smooth application.

Cleansers -Jason Natural Cosmetics - D-Clog Balancing Cleanser
rated 4 of 5
ruby_tea_roses 1/26/2006 8:20:00 AM

Nice cleanser with small beads to exfoliate the skin. Not as gritty as St. Ives Apricot Scrub - more gentle. Helps balance oily skin with blue-green algea extract. Not very good for removing make-up, so I generally use this in the shower in the morning followed by the Jason Naturals Balancing Astringent and oil-free moisturizer.
