Skincare - Body -Palmers - Cocoa Butter Formula with vitamin E-Swivel Stick
chayaNY 8/26/2008 8:21:00 PM
This is a great product. I have very dry lips and sensitive skin. Many lip balms irritate me or simply don't do the job. This works very well in moisturizing, but if you are used to a thick balm, keep in mind this is thinner, though emollient enough to work as well as those other types of formulations. The cocoa butter scent is light, nothing overwhelming. The product says it "soothes chapped lips" at the bottom, as well as state it's good for "marks, blemishes, and rough, dry skin." I have had one stick for a year, and have used it very often with still plenty left, so it's a great bargain for the price. It's a good desert island item as it can be used for various things in a pinch. I wake up with softer lips whenever i use this.

I really like how this gloss looks on me. I like nude shades and this peachy color seems to give my face a glow. some find elf a bit more sticky, but I think it's perhaps more pigmented and therefore richer than some other similarly priced glosses. I don't find the shine level to be over the top at all. I can't find the tube, so I plan to buy another.

I dislike this scent very much. I really hate scents with jasmine. Didn't realize that initially, but one by one every scent i cannot bear, turns out to have jasmine in it. Okay, I hate it. There I said it! My mother in her 70's, also hates it. When someone gave it to my grandmother with the powder as a set years ago, my grandmother hated it! She would wear it only when she saw that person so as not to offend her. Because of that, she had it for years kept in a dresser drawer. I hated the way the drawer smelled, how even the room seemed to be overwhelmed with the scent a day or so later if you just opened the drawer. Then my mother got some as a gift some years back and said she would not even wear it when seeing that person, she couldn't, hated it that much. I have to admit, it made me kind of queasy. I love angel for ex, and know it's another love it or hate it. I get that many scents are, and respect anyone's right to love this. For me it's everything I don't want in a perfume. I smell this in passing on someone and I seriously have to get away from that person. It's a visceral, "blech!" for me. Scents are very personal and as long as one does not over do it (um,you know who you are!;) I respect those who find something, stick with it, even it's not the latest thing.

Lipstick -Wet 'n' Wild - Lipstick- #547b, Breeze

Update, 9/2012, yes I found it! On Walgreens.com and am only updaying because its apparent some shades are not sold in the U.S North East, but are available online. Original review, yes, i'd buy this product again if only i could find it! i see recent reviews of it. but for the longest time i have not even seen "547a" on the displays any longer. i live in ny and have looked at every display in the city that i come across. this was my long time hg lipstick. it is a great nude, with some shimmer, some pink, some brown, but just the right amt of each on me. it gave a lit from within look to my whole face. 547b, does not even come close though someone advised i try that. i don't wear lipsticks anymore. i find them too drying. even ones formulated to be moisturizing. but this is a huge exceptionif anyone knows where to find this, i will be thrilled! pm if you do!!! thanks so much!!!!! tia!

has a cosmetic product ever confirmed your very worst "fears," or thoughts about yourself? thoughts you might think on your worst day, such as, "sure i pass for ten yrs younger than i am thanks to judicious use of suncreen and sleeping in a vat of moisturizer, but one day it's all gonna go south! overnight i will wake up and the whole world will know the truth! i will be revealed for the wizened old, rosacea ridden, hag that i am! no? never had such a day?! then you're lucky. me? not so lucky; i had sucha day twice and that was way too many such days for one lifetime i tell ya. so yeah, I am gonna go against the tide here as I do not like this product. I love the color, as it's light enough, I love the coverage (actually can cover some of my Rosacea), but it looks awful on. I have very dry skin, but in the summer, my t-zone is oily. I only really use foundation in that area, using concealer to cover redness. But I have tried this twice now, and both times it ruined my day. It magnified ever pore, every little imperfection, texture, not color wise, in my skin. It looks so heavy, and cakey on me, despite my having used moisturizer as usual. I was sort of shocked how bad I looked when I went in the bathroom today (I do my makeup in my bedroom after I shower). Like those women we have all seen who look like they are wearing spackle. I thought perhaps the first go round was just a bad fluke. But I had no time to start all over so I wore this "mask" all day. I wanted to love this and hoped to after reading such great reviews. I have both the neutralizing yellow powders in the line and like them. I love that you get this in such pale shades, but I am done;( my 2 lippies rating is for color and the pump on the bottle. though frosted glass looks nice, it impedes choosing colors, mine was a lucky guess. the heavy glass isn't a great idea either. so in case this isn't clear, here is another way of looking at it, this stuff reminded me of a product real popular with crafters a few yrs back. you would paint a perfectly good looking, something or other you had lying around with it. oh sure it may not have been brand spanking new whatever, maybe you had that flower pot for ex, for some time now. nonetheless, it was still quite attractive and useful as well. then you brushed this "crackle" liquid over said flower pot and would be rewarded with a surface that looked as if it had endured generations of wear and had only recently been dug up by crack archeologists. it made the not that old at all(!!!) item, look aged, not patina-ed merely, but crumbling almost as a million little cracks suddenly would come into view. ya know i quite liked the effect. it made some insubstantial things look as if they were substantial after all. i have great respect for ancient artifacts, i just don't want to look like one and no foundation has ever made me look that way but for this.

This isn't a bad product as it does what it says. It offers long lasting coverage, but even with moisturizer underneath and applied with a light hand, it can look a bit cakey. I don't use it under my eyes as I am super dry there. At night this looks flawless, stunning, and with my rosacea, still looked natural. In daylight on me, it's another story. Just doesn't pass the bright light of day test on me.

Concealers -Dermablend - Cover Creme - Cream
chayaNY 8/4/2008 6:42:00 PM
This was my hg concealer since college. I'm 41 now, so that's a long time!;) Back in the day it came in a tube, and used it for spots, never as an under eye concealer. I didn't have much to cover, but having been a makeup artist before school (I went to another school for that!), I knew that a drier cover-up lasted longer and it always did as promised by the manufacturer. One tube lasted me several years. By the time I needed to repurchase, it came in the same little plastic containers it does today. I had one for 5 years(!) which is why I only now just had to buy another one, and learned this amazing stuff had been reformulated, but not for the better in my opinion. I developed Rosacea about 2 yrs ago and this concealer saved the day for me every day. I would thin a bit out with jojoba oil which never effected it's staying power at all. I could get it to the viscosity I wanted, and my skin would look very natural, never too makeup nor mask like ever. I got a new container at Macy's the other day, and later read on the Demablend site that they have reformulated the product to make it creamier, I suppose more "user friendly." But the difference was obvious right away. There is literally an oily surface atop the concealer when I first opened it. I thought maybe something had settled and i used a makeup brush handle to scoop some out (they say it comes with a little spatula like it used to, but mine did not), thinking below the oil it would be more similar to before. Nope. It's still oily, though not as bad as the top. Even though I would add an oil (at times not jojoba, but evoo), to thin it out, and you would think I'd be happy now as I could skip that step, you'd be wrong. It's very creamy, but somehow the consistency is just not at all what I loved about it for nearly 19 yrs! I am so sad about this. I could begin my day and look the same at the end. I tried it yesterday first time and while it did still last, I could see it, it does not simply blend away to perfection as it used to. Using it today, like yesterday, I had to go over and try and cover the same few spots again and again as the creaminess, means it's not budge proof until you set with powder. So I thought I covered all my redness on one cheek, but had to go back and again and layer some more. Thats why I used Dermablend, to not need to layer more and more. It's not the same makeup but it is in the same container. If anyone knows where I can get the original formula, I'd be thrilled! This now reminds me of so many other creamy concealers. For $31.00(U.S), I thought, well not bad as it will last me for years, but now I feel cheated. This products was beloved around the globe for so many years, the company should have ADDED a creamier version for those who might prefer that, as opposed to getting rid of what worked.

Lotions/ Creams -Bath and Body Works - Black Amethyst Lotion

i got this lotion in the trial sized bottle and for $1.00 thought it was worth a shot. i like it a lot; i wasnt sure at first as i got it in summer and thought perhaps it was a bit much for then. but i began craving the smell and now am going to get the spray. i wear this now with clinique's happy and the combo is fantastic! i smell great and others think so too, when iw ear them together. i think this is a love it or hate it scent as you can see by other reviews. i now like stronger scents than i used to. i love angel which is also love or hate, i like princess a lot too and people feel the same way about that. i do not like the packaging because it's very 1980's black, purple and gold graphics. however thats not a big issue for me. i like that its more a real perfume scent, like my other favorite b& b scent, moonlight path which by the way, is a jovan musk dupe but a bit more powdery.

Mascara -Lancome - Hypnose
chayaNY 7/30/2008 7:21:00 PM
i received a free sample of this mascara in black, a few days ago so i have only used it twice. that said, i love it! i have never used a dept. store mascara before never seeing a real need to previously. but ah, there is something to this little tube that i go that makes it worth spending a little more. i have naturally long lashes but they are very, very, straight. i have to use a lash curler, crimping all the way from base to tips, for mascara to be worth my while at all. but i was in a rush after getting this, did one quick squeeze of the lash curler, and a swipe of this, i was really amazed at how it looked. i usually have to keep sweeping my lashes up as they dry in order to maintain any curl at all, despite having curled them for several minutes. but they just stayed up, and looked even longer, sort of very doe eyed with no effort. today i decided to try it without even curling my lashes, something i would never think of with any other mascara, and i am again amazed! i used it mainly on my outer lashes, almost nothing on the inner ones. it looks incredible! concentrated at the outer lashes really gives the doe eyes look, and after hrs of wear, no flaking at all. i have very sensitive eyes, use medicated drops and also have not worn eye makeup much at all in months due to to allergies. but i have had no adverse reactions to this at all. i normally only buy water proof and when my trial size runs out i will look for that, but wow, this is so "audrey!" i had really gotten used to how i look sans the eye makeup (yes girls, you could do it if you had to!;o) and my friends and family and now even i, think i look better without it generally. but i am psyched to wear eye makeup again because of this mascara! it just gave me that extra something and i am hooked! hrs and hrs later, my lashes look curled in the corners without having curled them and that's a first!

Gels/Soaps -Dove - Body Wash Cream Oil Sleek Satin
chayaNY 7/28/2008 9:53:00 PM
i just used this tonight for the first time after getting it in a bag of freebies that are oprah's favorites. it does smell fantastic like the reviewer above me stated. in fact though i showered about 2 hrs ago, the bathroom, and the hallway still smell just like it! i have severely dry skin due to a medical condition. i have to use a super moisturizing body wash, followed by olay in shower lotion, then after i get out, body lotion with a heavier cream on knees and elbows. having used this once it's too soon to say how it performs long run, but it was very pleasant to use, great smelling sure, but also felt very moisturizing. a small amt on a bath puff produced a lot of lather. my skin felt moisturized even before i went on to my normal next step. many body washes have not been emollient enough. this seemed to be, but i will update after using a bit longer. i gave it a 4 for now to reserve judgement and because i think body washes should come with a pump so you are not having to grasp a slippery bottle and shake it up and down to squeeze stuff out!;) edit, yes this does smell like angel perfume! it's really great for layering with the walgreens dupe because for day it's still not too strong but you just smell so good! Once you try it you can't get the scent out of your mind! edit, almost a yr later and i'm still using this! this is hg for sure! it smells divine, i even put a dab on my wrists before spraying angel on and the combo is heavenly! the bathroom smells amazing too after i've used this. my little niece adores it and wants to wash her with it when she comes over;) its incredibly moisturizing and being that i have an illness that kills off my moisture glands, i know whereof i speak. i alternate with caress japanese oil body wash, as both are very moisturizing but i love this even more than that. i do wish this came in a spray. if dove can make those other body sprays, none of which were anything special to me, i can't imagine why they aren't bottling this scent. i repurchase very few bath items but this and other body wash. i buy something and end up passing it on to friends or family. with my conditin my skin can become dry to the point of being painful, tight, itchy etc. this helps a lot when i use it. i use it on a puff, its very thick and just a little can work for a whole shower. but i use the puff to wash. then after i have shampooed, conditioned my hair, shaved, i give my skin the once over with this body wash to add that layer of moisture before i get out of the shower. yes i use moisturizer after but i have to no matter what i used. for a couple of yrs i only used olay moisture rinse, they changed the name now but its a body wash that leaves a film of moisturizer on you. many would not care for that but it worked for me. i like this better! the thing is i cannot find it anywhere! i finally found another bottle at a teeny local pharmacy but they only had one bottle. i hope its not being discontinued!

Lotions/ Creams -Alba Botanica - Un-petroleum Multi-Purpose Jelly
chayaNY 7/17/2008 9:28:00 PM
Update 7/12, I love this stuff, its the one produuct I consistently buy, am never without. I use it to buffer my skin when trying out anything new with active ingredients. I use it to make a product go on more smoothly. I have had swelling with itchy red bumps around my eyes several times a year from allergies, even trying on new glasses prompted it. Its part of what I now know to be a dry skin condition wherein all my moisture glands are actually dying off. I've had to take steroids to calm things down but my skin takes months to recover unless I use this. Nothing else works like this. A tube lasts well over a year for me. The castor oil in it has never caused me to be mistaken for Wolfman Jack, anyone else remember him?;)UPDATE; 4/09 i have used this faithfully since getting it last year. it has never given me any problems, no bumps, no irritation, and when allergies or a new product starts my eye lid skin itching again, getting overly dry as a reaction to something, this saves the day. using daily, i just now am at the end of my tube, and yes, i cut it open and took a tiny spatula to fill an clean, empty jar with what was left, should last me another month! i will absolutely repurchase! i love this stuff and you will too! original post, I got this at a health food store and have been using it for two weeks now. I really like this product and here's why, I got Perioral Dermatitis from using a too occlusive eye cream after allergies dried out the skin above and below my eyes. In researching the condition (which several people on mua have written about having, it can also be gotten from toothpaste), I learned that using any petroleum products on the affected areas is a huge NO NO! In fact, the original cream I used had that as it's base. Having used antibiotics to clear it up, I could not chance having the same reaction again yet my skin was now ten times worse than before when it was bad enough to drive me to use a thick cream in the first place;( The skin was thin, parched, dry, crepey; I was looking older suddenly, also it was still itchy. The PD takes a toll for sure! In two weeks that has really turned around from using this product. I am so pleased with it! I use this after cleansing, before bed. It has dramatically changed that area, making it back to how it looked pretty much, before this allergy, PD, hell began at the end of June. I now mix 50/50 with Aveeno daily moisturizer (the original with the green cap), as it's a little less greasy and won't get in my eyes. I use it on my lips too. I will definitely re-purchase.

Styling Products -Sunsilk - De Frizz 24 7 Cream
chayaNY 7/17/2008 9:19:00 PM
I have only used this twice and have to add that my hair is quite damaged from color and also very, very dry from a medical condition. I got tired of using products for frizz and shine that are just slick, where a tiny drop too much leaves you with a greasy head. I like that this is a cream and thick, so it does not run all over. I have liked it so far, though my hair still frizzed somewhat, but given the problems I contend with, that wasn't shocking. I think it's a nice product that simplifies my routine. I got it at a dollar store so of course the proce was right!;)

Styling Products -Sunsilk - Anti-Flat
chayaNY 7/17/2008 9:15:00 PM
I just began using this last week after finding it at a dollar store. I have a lot of hair, but very, very, fine at the roots and one side has breakage due to damage. This product has been a nice surprise. It has actually given me a boost on the side where my hair broke off, making that much less noticeable. I add to roots on wet or very damp hair, and "muss" them up a bit. I don't blow dry my hair (trying not to add more damage, so this review is on air dried hair. The scent unobtrusive, the texture isn't runny, nor does the product flake when dry as some volumizing mousses have. It comes with a pump which is very easy to use. All in all a nice product, especially at the price I found it at, will buy again!

Lip Treatments -Chapstick - Cherry
chayaNY 7/5/2008 8:52:00 PM
In my opinion, Cherry is more moisturizing than other Chapstick flavors. I have very dry lips so while I initially wasn't crazy about the scent (it reminded me of the motion sickness chewable tabs called Bonine!),it has now grown on me. Because it's thicker, it seems a bit more gets on your lips, levaing a very slight hint of pink. I find it to be longer lasting too, as other Chapsticks are more glossy and therefore don't last as long.
