Hair Color -Clairol - Natural Instincts Hair Color

Oh. My. God. Nothing had ever damaged my hair before this crud, and I am a freaking dye junkie. And it's supposed to be semi-permanent!! Sure, it washed out eventually, but the breakage it caused in my hair took literally over a year to grow out, I had this halo of broken strands around the top of my head. Never again!! And, it stunk and reeked for days afterwards. Low peroxide? What EVER.

Hair Color -L'Oreal - Feria Haircolor

I've used Feria numerous times. I'm hooked on the conditioner tube in the box! If only they sold it seperate. I like a wash of dark burgundy over my naturally almost black color. Feria darkest red washed out in oh, a week? It was a little blah of a color too, not so intensely burgundy. I like Garnier Nutrisse much better. My hair is resistant to dye normally, and red is always a short lived experience no matter what, so YMMV. But only a week of color seemed... wrong.

Hair Color -Garnier - Nutrisse Permanent Creme Hair Color
rated 4 of 5

I use the Black Cherry... too much! But it actually doesn't seem to damage my hair, so that's OK. It's a very dark burgundy red, and with my natural dark dark brown it adds up to a lovely black red that lasts... two to three weeks :-( It lasts better than any other permanent red, though, and the color after the dark red in the dye washes out is nice too- a natural red highlight color. (My hair is resistant to dye though, so YMMV.) Anyway. Not perfect but the best permanent red out there for me. And smells nice! Not like skunky Clairol crap. And I always get compliments on my hair color with this, and surprisingly even when it's just done and it's a purple black color, I've still had people think it's natural. How cute!

Hair -Garnier - Fructis Shampoo & Conditioner
rated 3 of 5
PoisonedIvy 10/4/2003 4:07:00 PM

Nice. Tidies the curls, doesn't cause havoc of any kind, no weird greasy residues hiding anywhere (which is my biggest peeve about some shampoos... cough *pantene* cough.) Smells allright. Cheap- got it for $3 @ Target. Not wild about the way the bottles open- I find I have to pry the conditioner open with my teeth in the shower, which is kind of gross. Definitely a keeper. EDIT: Rats, after 2 weeks it started creating nasty buildup. Oh well, back to the hunt for a decent shampoo. This one could be fine for a backup, "on rotation" sort of thing.

Styling Products -TiGi - Bed Head Shine Junkie [DISCONTINUED]
rated 3 of 5
PoisonedIvy 10/4/2003 2:16:00 PM

This stuff smells delicious, a yum citrus smell. It tames the frizz very well, and tidies my curls up, with no greasy nastiness (though it's hard for my thick hair to get weighed down by anything). But, I saw very little shine to it. (Got2Be dazzling shine spray works much better in that department, and in fact I often layer the two.) However, what the heck is up with the dumb packaging?

Also. I left the lid off it for a few hours and the whole freaking pot of product broke down and melted into useless watery slime, and is now ultra messy (and I think it worked better before it broke down). How very obnoxious. And it's pretty expensive for what it is.

Like it allright for the defrizz effect and nice scent but chances are only 50/50 that it will ever be repurchased.

Treatments -Got 2 Be - Got2Be dazzling 4-shine
rated 5 of 5
PoisonedIvy 10/4/2003 2:07:00 PM

This is my all time favorite shine spray. It makes my black hair look like patent leather, way shinier and niftier than any other type I've tried (and I have tried *lots*, some way more expensive that did much less!) Love the light citrusy scent. It really makes a big difference in the look of my hair. (Maybe since it's so dark, I guess.) It tidies my curls a bit too, which is nice, and does a minorly good job taming frizz. It could be better at that, actually, but that's OK, it's so shiny and light, who cares if it doesn't defrizz that much? No build up, no greasy nastiness, just lots of shiny smoothness.

Styling Products -Got 2 Be - Glossy
rated 4 of 5
PoisonedIvy 10/4/2003 1:53:00 PM

This product is fairly similar to the dazzling shine spray. Same scent and look, however I think the shine spray is a bit easier to maneuver onto your head evenly. The gloss tames frizzies better than the dazzling shine spray, but isn't quite as shiny, possibly since it's a little harder to distrubute evenly. I use the shine spray a bit more, I think.

Styling Products -Got 2 Be - Got 2 Be Curled-up Curling Spray
rated 3 of 5
PoisonedIvy 10/4/2003 1:47:00 PM

OK, on one hand this did make my curls curlier and more defined. It also smelled fairly nice. On the other hand, I couldn't bear touching my hair, as it was all crunchy, crispy and gross feeling. I air-dried with it, no hairdryer, so I don't know if that makes a difference. It really doesn't matter how little I use, it is always crispy feeling. Gnarly. No thanks. Not worth the extra curliness.

Lipstick -Cover Girl - Outlast
rated 3 of 5
PoisonedIvy 10/3/2003 8:40:00 PM

Well, this stuff does last fairly well. It kind of... flakes and cracks when it starts to wear off though, which is annoying. I actually don't think I like lipstick that lasts this long- I often like to switch during the day and since I've never found a really exciting color in this line, I tend to start wanting it off after a few hours. Definitely not excited by the color selection, at least not the last time I looked, but I might have to try the Pearl line. If I found a color I liked it might be worth fussing with. (I wish they'd not packaged the moisture stuff separately- too much purse clutter.) EDIT: The pearl line is way better, more natural looking and less peely/flaky. Blush Pearl was very, very good!

Pressed Powders -Cover Girl - Clean
rated 5 of 5

I keep trying to pry myself away from this product, but then going back to it. In the winter, ivory is just the right shade for my PPP skin. When I end up w/ slight yellow undertones in the summer, Classic Ivory does the trick. Why this cheapie product works longer and better than anything else I have tried, I have no clue. I just hate the smell of it.

Whoa... this smelled really, really strong and bad on me. I hope the sample I got was "off" or old or something. I tried it, and a bit later started wondering what that terrible smell was- yup, it was the perfume. Had to scrub it off. Yeah, floral. And icky.

Eye Shadow -Prestige - Eyeshadow
rated 5 of 5

I think I have like 8 of these. And I only occasionally reach for a different brand to use. My very favorites: Horizon, Marble, and Verdigris. The glittery ones are fun, if a bit messy. The colors they offer are so nifty and unusual, I can't resist. And they have the best wearable purples & greens ever. Good stuff!

I really, really, really couldn't stand the scent of this lipstick. BABY POWDER!!! Ick. Plus, it dried my lips out to the point of cracking them. Color was fine- a nice neutral. Tendre Mauve I believe. Too bad I couldn't stand wearing it.

This is my "Angelina Jolie lips" in a bottle. Very YLBB, with some liner it is quite amazing how full and shiny they look. Smells fine to me.

Eye Shadow -Prestige - Eye Shadow - "Wasabi"
rated 4 of 5

I like this color, it attracted me irresistably. However, I just never wear it. With my PPP skin it's a little too much, I feel kind of conspicuous with it on, and it just clashes with most of the stuff I wear. But I still feel a strange attachment to it. Perhaps someday I will find an outfit that begs for this e/s. The quality, texture and pigmentation is fantastic, especially in this shade.
