Fragrances -Calgon - Coconut Sorbet

Went with DH and the DD's for sushi today and for dessert we had one scoop of coconut and one scoop of mango ice cream each. Stopped at the drugstore to exchange some hair dye and while the SA rang me up I saw this and had a sniff.... It smells just like... coconut and mango ice cream!!! Not artificial nor plastic-y either. I'm not into foodie or fruity scents in the least but this qualified to be the exception to the rule. First thing DH said when I returned to the car was "Mmmmm sexy food smell." I also picked up the matching lotion.... Unfortunately I don't derive any pleasure from it past the initial spritz. It seams these Calgon mists all have the same boring drydown making them not even worth the effort.

Fragrances -Yves Rocher - Voile d'Ambre

On me it is an arid, resinous, and very true amber. Absolutely gorgeous. The bottle is very sexy too. I got this thanks to a dear MUA buddy, but alas, I have to accept that although I like the idea of amber and the way it smells on others as well as on me, I do not enjoy wearing it.

Fragrances -Houbigant - Chantilly
rated 5 of 5

This review is of vintage Chantilly in the opaque rose coloured glass bottle. Vintage smells like the current formulation plus oakmoss. I keep some of this on hand because it is comforting because my mom wore it when I was little. I dislike oakmoss and therefore prefer to wear the current product by Dana. I loved fes's review. It is so evocative. I had a sad childhood and still can find comfort in fragrances that remind me of a far gone time and place. That doesn't mean it is all I wear.

Highlighters -MAC - Iridescent Powder - Belightful
rated 5 of 5

Thanks to zeynep81's (Hello Dahling!) descriptive and concise review (her complexion is very similar to mine) and thanks to the review just below mine, I went out to buy Belightful yesterday and it is absolutely perfect! Now I don't feel so bad that I dropped and shattered my Shimpagne. (It popped open when it landed on the floor, all was lost, and it was a heck of a mess to clean up.) I liked Shimpagne, but I LOVE Belightful.

Foundations -Cover Girl - Advanced Radiance Age-Defying Makeup
rated 5 of 5

Holy Grail. I have dry skin. Natural Ivory is a perfect match for me and totally evens out my ruddy complexion. It goes on weightless and keeps my skin looking and feeling great all day. I'm seriously old school and I apply it with scrupulously clean fingertips instead of the sponge for a flawless and natural finish. My only complaint is that it is not yet available in Canada in compact form. Oh, I tried Aquasmooth before a dear MUA friend sent me this, and it was nowhere near as good. I could feel it on my face the whole day and couldn't wait to wash it off.

Gorgeous product. Smells of creamy coconut milk and nothing else. Silky smooth. Softens and products and I just love, love, love the 70's style packaging.

Lotions/ Creams -Johnson & Johnson - Baby Cream
rated 1 of 5

This product had been discontinued. Now they claim to have relaunched it in the US. Well the packaging is really cheap, flip-cap breaks right off. It doesn't seem like the same product I knew, loved and missed. I used to be able to use the original on my face but this 'new' one stings like all get-out.

Skincare - Body -Johnson & Johnson - Johnson Naturals Soothe and Protect Balm
rated 1 of 5
Shadow_Witch 4/13/2006 11:18:00 PM

This product is shit and really harsh for a 'baby' product that purports to be soothing. My daughter has a dry patch on the side of her nose that is aggravated by extremes in temperatures and dryness. Well, what is normally under control was totally exacerbated by this balm. The patch became red and angry and it literally took days of applying Vaseline to heal it.

Lotions/ Creams -Johnson & Johnson - Soothing Naturals Intense Moisture Cream

This product is shit and really harsh for a 'baby' product that purports to be soothing. My 4 year old daughter's hands were dry from over-washing. I suggested she try this new cream I just purchased. It gave her a first degree burn (like a bad sunburn). Bear in mind that my child is not allergic to anything. She was sobbing from the burning. We quickly washed her hands in luke warm water and used our staple Dove bar. I had to apply Bactine to anaesthetize the skin. I think we'll stick with our Nivea Creme and Vaseline Creamy.

Fragrances -BeneFit Cosmetics - ... maybe baby
rated 1 of 5

Bottle is awkward for me to spray with my little paws. Don't care for the fragrance. It's too fruity and it's been done to death by hundreds of brands.

Fragrances -Guerlain - Aqua Allegoria Lavande Velours
rated 5 of 5
Shadow_Witch 4/11/2006 3:15:00 PM

We have a bedtime ritual in my home. Both my girls unwind with the help of a moist face cloth scented with a lavender cologne, ever since they were born. They breathe in the fragrance, and pat it on their faces, necks and arms. A while back I was out of our usual cologne (Mont St Michel Lavande Impériale) so, I ordered Lavande Velours. This fragrance is beauty, well-being, and comfort all rolled into one. It starts out all herbal/antiseptic/medicinal lavender, almost pine-y on a violet backdrop. It then evolves into the sweetest, truest violet. I normally hate violet fragrances because they are always too sweet or cloying. This one is perfection.

Shampoo -Johnson & Johnson - Baby Shampoo
rated 5 of 5
Shadow_Witch 4/10/2006 1:53:00 AM

The best and most gentle remover for stubborn eye makeup. No tears, remember? Clarifying shampoo, and makeup brush cleaner. When I use it on my hair I need a conditioner. When I use it on my girls, I need to follow with no more tangles. My only complaint is that over the years J&J has changed the classic fragrance I loved.

Sunscreen -Ombrelle - SPF 30 Extreme Kids Lotion
rated 5 of 5
Shadow_Witch 4/10/2006 1:00:00 AM

The last time I tanned was Summer of '97. I was 29 years old and realized after observing the ravages of Apollo on my best friend's (six years my senior) skin, that it was time to throw in the sunbathing towel. In the following years I just stayed out of the sun for the most part. Avoiding it at all costs like a creature of the night because I hate sunscreen with the passion of a thousand burning suns...

Enter my husband, the fair, formerly red-headed-turned-sandy-haired Teutonic god who burns at the mere mention of the word sunshine. He also loves to sail. I love to sail. Sunscreen, now a much necessary evil, is in fact my reality. Did I tell you I hate sunscreen? It feels tacky, oily, pasty, gritty, yucky, and claustrophobic. It smells yucky. And most of the time it doesn't even protect the way it claims to. When my children were born my family doctor gave me a bottle Ombrelle Extreme Kids Lotion both times and told me to use it on my whole family. I did, and I still do. When I have to be in the sun, I cover up mostly, and I use Ombrelle. I use it on our faces as well as our bodies because frankly, it really is the only product that truly does what it claims to do. I hate it. It feels oily and like it just sits on my skin. It's not moisturizing so I make sure to moisturize first and then apply it. The best part of using it is washing it all off at the end of the day of boating and I'm not even the slightest bit pink.

Lip Treatments -The Body Shop - Born Lippy Lip Balm

These have definitely gone down in quality since the early days. The scent and taste is artificial and the product is mediocre at best and drying at worst.

Lip Gloss -Bonne Bell - Lip Smackers
rated 5 of 5
Shadow_Witch 4/5/2006 6:36:00 PM

OMG I have loved these nearly my whole life! My favourites are: Vanilla Strawberry Watermelon Coca Cola Candy Cane just to name a few. Love my Smackers in the "Biggie" size best. I've been using Smackers ever since the beginning. I wear them every day and all day. They keep my lips soft. Give my lips a natural glow and it's funny how I only get compliments on my "lipstick" when I am wearing nothing but this. My favourite flavours always lift my spirits.
