Treatments -Lancome - Genifique

My normal go to serum is Estee Lauder Advance Night Repair. Tried some large size samples of Genifique when it was launched in the UK. It wasn't bad, but it was nothing special. Couldn't see what the hype was about personally. It's a perfectly fine product, but I rated it lowly because it seems very overpriced. The product quality does not justify the price. I much prefer the Estee Lauder version, which is also quite a bit cheaper. However, my mother (mid fifties) much prefers Genifique and isn't wowed by the Estee Lauder serum. I would not buy Genifique myself. I would use it if I received a sample or it was a gift. I am usually fond of Lancome products, but to me Genifique was not amazing as it was made out to be. Maybe it has more of an effect on mature skins? n.b. one of my lecturers in a lecture on clinical trials & statistics pointed out that the trials conducted for Genifique were too small to demonstrate a significant effect.

Treatments -Estee Lauder - Advanced Night Repair (Serum)
rated 4 of 5

I am fond of this product. Packaging is quite good. Dropper means you don't have to touch product so is fairly hygienic. Lasts a long time if used sparingly. Is quite expensive, but feels nice on the skin, smells good but not too scented. Can't say this has made my skin look hugely different, but it feels nice to apply and I use it almost every night as a serum. It's pleasant to use and hopefully good for my skin. I have repurchased and would consider doing so again in future after I have used up my other serums or there's an offer/I go to duty free. Would buy largest available e.g. 100ml. Product is pricey, no cheaper in USA than UK. Will continue to use until I find a better serum.... (if one exists?). Also used the Advanced Night Repair night eye cream which was also good. Have also tried Lancome Genifique and I prefer the EL one. Didn't think Genifique was special and it cost more too. n.b. my mother (mid fifties) much prefers Genifique to the EL serum...

Eyeliner -Shiseido - Majolica Majorca Automatic Eye Liner
rated 5 of 5

My HG liquid eyeliner. Easy to apply for cat eyes, lovely dark black colour, doesn't smudge, fake or fade. Mine has lasted a long time and I have bought a spare one and will buy another one when I go back to Hong Kong. The packaging is cute, but not childish. Better than Lancome, YSL and drugstore liquid eyeliners. Takes getting use to the twist up applicator at first, but love, love, love this product. Wish it was available in the UK.

Soothing, moisturizing, non greasy, smells good. Always like having this to hand. I use it on my hands and body. It is my favourite body moisturiser. Better than many more expensive brands.

Lotions/ Creams -L'Occitane - 100% Pure Shea Butter

Bought this as part of a set years ago and didn't like it because it was so hard and couldn't get enough product on my lips so I gave up on it...So recently I'd been having terribly dry winter lips and Carmex and Vaseline did nothing so I thought I'd give it another go. This time, I warmed the tin by putting it in my pocket or rubbing it in my hands. It was so worth it! My lips feel transformed, no more horrible flakiness. They feel smooth and soft again! I disagree with the other reviews that said this has a short shelf life. I have had mine for years and it is fine. The product really works but if you're in a cold climate you need to warm it up first. A must have winter product! Would buy again if I ever ran out. My HG lipbalm.

Polishes -China Glaze - Pelican Grey
rated 4 of 5
razzledooda 1/8/2012 6:45:00 PM

Bought at hair salon on sale on a whim as it was on sale. Very low price. Have never tried China Glaze before and I was very impressed. Colour was lovely, light grey with the smallest hint of shimmer. Looked great on my nails. Used 2 coats + silver glitter topcoat and it looked great though I think it looks better w/out glitter. Dried nicely and did not chip. Very pleased and this has encouraged me to buy more China Glaze...Don't know if I would use the whole bottle so may not repurchase this colour, but it is lovely.

Masks -The Body Shop - Warming Mineral Mask
rated 3 of 5

Bought mask on promotion when 50% off. Mask is ok. Feels nice on skin as it warms, leaves my skin feeling nice and soft afterwards. Not an amazing product but I haven't yet found an amazing mask. Packaging is pretty simple but good being upside down so less product wastage. Would only repurchase if at least 50% off as not worth the full price. Would rather buy a better product if available. Will try other brands in future.

Moisturizers -Biotherm - D-stress nuit cream
rated 3 of 5
razzledooda 1/8/2012 6:38:00 PM

Product may be discontinued. Picked it up from a discount cosmetics site. Suitable for combination skin. Price was very good considering Biotherm is fairly high end. Packaging is ok, fairly sturdy, blue, glass bottle with a pump. Lid has small crack so lid not sturdy. Product is a lotion, quite light in texture. Soothing and moisturizing but dries quickly and leaves a very slightly matte feel to the skin. Smell is not great, but not so bad I can't use it. I use this at night after Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum. The product is fine, can't see any huge difference in my skin but it moisturizes well enough. I like the idea of "de stressing" skin but I can't say it has helped perk my skin up. It's not worth the original price. Bought a second as it was so cheap and am just using it up. Would only recommend to buy if you pay little for it. It's not a special product.

Eye Shadow -Stila - Eye Shadow Quad in Marrakesh
rated 4 of 5
razzledooda 1/8/2012 2:19:00 PM

I am fair skinned and really love this palette. I bought it a couple of years ago from the now defunct TJ Hughes for <£10. Bargain. I think it might be discontinued? Anyway, there are 4 pans of shadow: gold, mid/deep brown and 2 rose gold colours. All have some degree of shimmer, however the shimmer is not OTT and doesn't look glittery or sparkly. To me, it is just the right amount to make your eyes pop. I know some of the previous reviews have complained that the size of the shadows is smaller than Stila's usual size. Even so, the sizes are generous and even with frequent use have lasted a long time for me. I find the gold colour used alone with dramatic liquid eyeliner is my standard look. Sometimes I use the pinks on top for a bit more colour. The brown can be used for contouring/blending but I am too lazy usually. Heh. The quality of the shadows is good and I have no complaints about pigmentation. I deducted points because the 2 pink colours look v similar and I don't use 3/4 colours very often. The packaging is ok. Not bad, but not special. Silver plastic with flowers, seems fairly robust, mirror on inside is good size for makeup application on the go. I still love this palette and have bought a backup palette in case I ever run out. I notice this is on sale at Argos right now and is <£5.
