Loose Powders -Almay - Pure Blends Loose Finishing Powder
rated 1 of 5

Not to be harsh about this product, but I have a real issue with companies marketing their powders as 'translucent' when in fact they're NOT! Maybe it's my fault for assuming that any drugstore brand powder will be truly translucent, but it's very annoying for people who are very fair-skinned, and don't want to have their face be a different color than the rest of their skin. If the powder has a pigment to it, just say so...and I'll pass by it...but marketing it as translucent seems like false advertising. I'll stick with my Laura Mercier Translucent Powder...since it's actually translucent.

Mascara -Maybelline - Pulse Perfection™ by Define-A-Lash® Vibrating Mascara ] ] [DISCONTINUED]
rated 1 of 5

I'll admit that I'm a mascara junkie, so I always have to try out the latest and greatest products...the concept behind this mascara sounds good in theory, but it did absolutely nothing for me. The mascara clumped terribly, and went on waaaaay too heavy...and the so-called 'vibrations' were barely even noticeable...unfortunately, this product was a total waste of money for me. If you're looking for a truly great drugstore mascara, try Cover Girl Lash Blast or Maybelline Full 'N Soft (waterproof) instead of Pulse Perfection...I've had EXCELLENT results with both of those :-)

I haven't experienced any problems with this brush shedding, and I've been using it almost daily for well over a month...great product (the brush is very very soft) at an excellent price!

Foundations -Maybelline - Dream Matte Mousse
rated 1 of 5
kellywilson0 11/1/2009 11:21:00 AM

For all of you fair-skinned girls out there considering this foundation, all I have to say is HOLY ORANGE FACE, BATMAN...not good :-( I'll start with the Pro's: the consistency of this mousse is AMAZING. And blending this product is a dream (the mousse is a fabulous idea). I also LOVE the Dream Mousse Blush and the eye-shadow (although not sure if they make the eye-shadow anymore). Con's: The color selection is not a good one for very fair-skinned ladies. I bought the lightest color (Light Ivory/Light 0), and my face was literally ORANGE due to the tone...like I mentioned before, blending this product was super easy, but unfortunately, no amount of blending was able to tone down the orange color. This one is a definite no for me.

Polishes -OPI - Japanese Rose Garden

I just got this nail polish today, and I have to say that I'm totally in love with it...it's the perfect dusty rose/mauvey-pink color that I've been looking for forever! I love OPI in general (great staying power, awesome colors, etc.), so this one will be taking a prominent place in my nail polish collection!

Styling Products -Kenra - platinum silkening gloss
rated 5 of 5
kellywilson0 10/25/2009 10:31:00 PM

A hairstylist used this on me several years ago, and I fell in love with it! It makes my hair incredibly soft and shiny, but doesn't weigh it down (unless I use too much...that's only happened a few times). Plus, the smell is amazing! I don't remember this being super inexpensive, but it lasts an insanely long time...I'm still on my first bottle, and have been using it forever...probably why I can't remember how much it costs.

Fragrance -Giorgio Armani - Acqua Di Gio (for men)
rated 5 of 5
kellywilson0 10/25/2009 3:26:00 PM

I dated a guy for quite some time, and this was his 'signature scent.' Maybe it's just the fond memories that I associate with this scent (although maybe not, since there are also some not so fond memories haha), but this is 100% my favorite cologne to smell on a man...it just smells 'clean,' while at the same time smelling incredibly sexy and sensual. Any time I catch a whiff of this, it just makes me happy :-)

Fragrances -Christian Dior - Miss Dior Cherie

Perfume is definitely a very individual choice, so it's difficult to really review a perfume, since it's based so much on the body chemistry of the person wearing it. That having been said, this one just didn't work on me...it smelled great after I first sprayed it...but the longer it was on my skin, the more it turned into a sickeningly sweet scent that gave me a raging headache and made me nauseous...it just smelled 'off' on me, perhaps it was the mixture of the caramel popcorn and the heavy strawberry scent. Either way, it's a real shame, since I've smelled it on others, and it smells great...it's not for me, though.

Concealers -Almay - Bright Eyes Eye Base + Concealer
rated 1 of 5
kellywilson0 10/25/2009 2:00:00 PM

I typically really like Almay products...but this one is a definite no-go for me, unfortunately. I bought the lightest color, but it was still very 'off' from my skin-tone...although that problem isn't restricted solely to Almay products...I've still yet to find any concealer that really 'goes' with my skintone...but I digress. I dislike the applicator, the brush that the product is dispensed through was pretty useless to me...and after only an hour or two wearing the product, my under-eye area had creased terribly...despite having used a moisturizer before applying this product...I've definitely never had a product crease so badly for me. The search for a truly top-notch concealer continues!

Lotions/ Creams -Jergens - Ultra Healing Lotion
rated 5 of 5
kellywilson0 10/25/2009 11:20:00 AM

I wish there was an "ABSOLUTELY" option for the 'Would you buy this product again?' question! I really can't say enough wonderful things about this lotion. I have extremely dry skin (except for my face, which likes to turn into an oil slick!), and also have very sensitive skin...this product not only keeps me skin baby soft, but has also never irritated my sensitive skin...an absolute winner in my book! I've honestly had countless boyfriends in the past (I've used this lotion for longer than I can even remember) who constantly remark how soft my skin is. The guys that I know never comment on that kind of stuff, so I feel like it actually has merit when they do notice something like that! The consistency is absolutely perfect...not too watery, not too greasy...it soaks into my skin perfectly. The only downside is that there isn't really any fragrance to it (I've tried the original, which I believe is Cherry & Almond...smells divine! But didn't work as well on my skin), but that doesn't really bother me, as I get my fragrance from perfumes. All in all, a real winner...and for the price, what do you have to lose?!? Give it a try :-) I've also found that my local Sam's Club sells this lotion in a 3-pack...which makes it even MORE affordable...love it!

Fragrances -Burberry - Brit
rated 5 of 5
kellywilson0 10/25/2009 11:08:00 AM

I recently discovered Clinique Happy as my every-day, go-to scent...and I absolutely adore it. But when the weather turns colder (I find Brit overpowering, at least on me, in the warmer months), and I want that extra touch of something special and sexy, I always reach for Brit. I have the EDP version, and believe me when I say that it just smells classy and refined, without that over-the-top 'I'm trying to be classy' vibe that many other perfumes give off, as they basically punch you in the face with how strong and overpowering they are...it just reminds me of pearls, cardigans, dresses, being curled up by the fireplace with a cashmere blanket on a crisp fall/winter night...all things feminine and refined. I know that perfumes are a very personal choice, and what smells great on me may not work on other folks...but for what it's worth, this scent is heavenly when it works with your body chemistry. I find that a little bit goes a long way with this one...one spray, maybe two, and I'm set for the day. The staying power is great on me...and I've received many compliments (especially from men) when wearing this scent. Oh, and from what I've found, Amazon has great prices on this...much better than some of the boutiques I've seen it in :-)

Loose Powders -Laura Mercier - translucent loose powder
rated 5 of 5
kellywilson0 10/25/2009 12:19:00 AM

FINALLY! A translucent powder that's ACTUALLY translucent. Before I discovered the wonderful world of Laura Mercier powders, I was stuck using powders that were allegedly 'translucent'...but in actuality they made my super pale skin look orangey/pinky...not exactly the look I was going for. Like all of LM's powders, this one is super, super finely milled...it honestly feels like silk...you really can't go wrong with this product. And the container is very generously sized for the price...not a bad deal at all. I'm currently waiting for my Aveda order to arrive (still on the quest for the ever-elusive foundation that will be pale enough for me!) and have ordered a container of their translucent powder as well out of curiosity (I'm a makeup junkie, what can I say?!)...I'm curious to see which one wins out...will update once I've compared both products! :-)

Primer/ Corrector -Laura Mercier - mineral primer
rated 2 of 5
kellywilson0 10/25/2009 12:12:00 AM

I've done comparisons with and without the Primer, and this Primer really makes my oily skin look dry and flaky once my mineral foundation is applied...which is definitely odd - my skin has never looked dry before! I even tried using my moisturizer before applying this, but it still didn't work. This is one of the only LM products I've tried that I didn't really love...but this one is a no-go for me. Plus, it's pretty expensive, considering the size of the container that you get for the money.

Lips -Chapstick - (All Flavors)
rated 1 of 5
kellywilson0 10/24/2009 11:57:00 PM

I didn't even think it was possible to be allergic to something as seemingly innocuous as Chapstick, but I definitely am. I decided to stray from my beloved Burt's Bees lip balm after catching a whiff of my friend's Spearmint Chapstick one day in the car...and for the record, even though I'm allergic to it, it does smell absolutely yummy. Anyway, after using it the first day, I noticed that my lips seemed super dry and red/irritated. I figured maybe it was just the weather (it was last winter), so I applied more and more Chapstick...by the next day, my lips and the skin surrounding my lips were covered in painful little red bumps...have definitely never had that happen before or since! And trust me, not fun at all! After switching back to Burt's Bees, the bumps immediately started healing up and went away. A great product for many...but unfortunately not for me...I just wish I could figure out which ingredient I'm allergic to!

Masks -Mudd - 5 Minute Mask [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
kellywilson0 10/24/2009 11:51:00 PM

This was my HG facial mask for many, many years...it was one of the only products that could get my skin under control during a bad breakout. Unfortunately, as other reviewers have mentioned, I think it has been discontinued...they always seem to do that with the good products for some reason! For anyone looking for a suitable replacement mask, I've recently had very good luck with St. Ives Mineral Clay Firming mask...but that may just be my skin, since I've always had good luck with St. Ives products.
