Toners -The Body Shop - Tea Tree freshener
tofusteak 10/6/2009 4:54:00 AM
I bought this product as part of the Tea Tree starter kit of Body Shop. Seeing that it had some mattifying powder in it, I thought I would like it since I have oily skin. Unfortunately, it stings my skin and is extremely drying for me. The area below my eye dried up, became a bit blotchy and now I see lines! =( It simply is too harsh for me, so I just stick to the Tea Tree moisturizer. I will stay away from this stuff.

Cleansers -Kiehls - Blue Herbal Gel Cleanser
tofusteak 10/6/2009 4:46:00 AM
I got a sample of this product from Kiehl's when I bought their Ultimate White Intensive Whitening Essence. The first time I used it, I did not expect it to be so fluid and runny! When I poured the sachet, I was surprised that the contents flowed out almost instantly so the cleanser was almost wasted. Anyway, moving on...when you apply it to your face, it foams easily which is a good thing. The tingly sensation I felt after washing was very similar to that of L'oreal's PureZone cleanser. Tingly, fresh, but drying. I have oily skin like anything, but this stuff is extremely drying. Insofar as drying up pimples is concerned, I suppose it's still too early to say. I'll give it a few days to a week and we'll see how it goes. For the price though, I think you can get a cheaper cleanser with the same effectiveness.

Blush -NARS - Orgasm Blush
tofusteak 10/4/2009 11:42:00 AM
I read a lot of reviews about this blush before I decided to purchase it. It's really expensive for a blush, although all the positive reviews are true. The color is just right for your skin (I have Asian skin) and doesn't look overbearing at all. It looks very natural, which is really good since I have been having problems trying to find a blush that does not look artificial on my skin. This shade gives you a natural glow. Quite charming, really. :)

Scrubs -Shiseido - Pureness Pore Purifying Warming Scrub
tofusteak 10/4/2009 11:35:00 AM
I love Shiseido products, but I'm not impressed by this one. It's supposed to be 'pore purifying' but after using it, I still see whiteheads and blackheads on my face. Sure, it does leave your face very soft after using it, but for the price you have to pay (it's very expensive) I wouldn't buy it again. I'm also not impressed by the packaging of this whole Pureness line. It's drab and just does not look aspirational.

Moisturizers -The Body Shop - Tea Tree Mattifying Moisture Gel
tofusteak 10/4/2009 11:28:00 AM
I bought this as part of a starter kit at Body Shop. As a mattifying product, it works for me. I had qualms initially about it since in my experience, most moisturizers leave my face oily, so I usually skip that step altogether. This one was a pleasant surprise for me. It kept my skin soft while my face looked matte for hours. How cool is that! The downside is that it kind of stings my face when I apply it. Not sure if that has happened to other triers of this product. Also a bit on the pricey side considering you'd have to use it everyday.

Treatments -The Body Shop - tea tree oil
tofusteak 10/4/2009 11:23:00 AM
I bought this as part of a starter kit. Overall, I like the smell of the tea tree line which has a hint of lime. Smells fresh. In terms of effectiveness, this did the trick for me, and helped heal my zits. It stops the pimple from getting worse, and dries it out in a few days. I've used clindamycin lotion before so I know what works and what doesn't. A bit on the pricey side though, but since it solved the problem, I would consider buying it again.

Blush -Bloom - Sheer Color Cream
tofusteak 7/22/2009 12:09:00 AM
I have this product in the "coy" shade which has a light, peachy tinge to it. I like the shade since it's just right for my yellowish/golden Asian skin tone. As for the consistency though, I've had better luck with cream blushes that come in tubes (I also use Body Shop's blush creme) since they are easier to blend on my face. You'll just need more effort blending this Bloom product to spread it evenly. The pigments/color is good though, so a little goes a long way. Overall, the product delivery is okay for the relatively inexpensive price (compared to the small Body Shop tube) so it's good for everyday use. Edit: I've been having problems with breakouts after using this blush. Stopped using it for the meantime.

Eyeliner -Maybelline - Expert Liner
tofusteak 7/21/2009 11:59:00 PM
I have mixed feelings about this eyeliner... on the positive side, it is easy to remove since it dries into this sort of "rubbery" substance so you can easily rub it off in case you make mistakes. On the other hand though, I wish it had a better applicator since it tends to apply the stuff pretty thick on your lids. It takes a bit of practice, and Ive learned to apply with just the right amount. The color is okay too (mine is black) I just wish they had a grey shade too so that it is less strong for day use.

Lipstick -Shiseido - Perfecting Lipstick
tofusteak 7/21/2009 11:52:00 PM
I've tried countless glosses, lipsticks, etc and have had some difficulty because not only are my lips acidic, they're prone to chapping as well. Being acidic has been a problem for me since color tones are hard to match for my lips-- i cant get anything that's too light because it will hardly color my lips, and when I do get something that I "think" is the right color, it turns out that the color is too strong for me. Since Shiseido is an Asian brand, I decided to give it a try since it might match the color and chemistry of my skin. I tried the Perfecting Lipstick on the counter, and I was pleasantly surprised at how easily it glides over my chapped lips AND gives me a boost of color, without looking overpowering. The formula is really moisturizing, so I'd recommend it for those with dry lips. The color also lasts for hours, and looks great on my skin. I have a golden/yellowish toned complexion and I've had difficulty finding a pink shade of lipstick, so usually I go for orangeish or brick tones. But not with this one! The Shy Pink shade is my perfect pink lipstick :) It's color stays as it is even with my acidic skin type. It's also the right balance of pink for my skin. It looks AND feels great AND lasts long. It's lipstick bliss :)

Cleansers -Philosophy - Purity Made Simple (Real Purity Cleanser)
tofusteak 7/21/2009 11:38:00 PM
I've always seen Philosophy products in local Beauty Bar stores in Manila, but never bothered to give them a try because they're quite pricey compared to other products. However, recently I needed to check on some effective pore cleansers and somehow found some reviews for the Makeup Optional set of Philosophy. I decided to get one set for me (which was on discount, so it cost around $75), after reading about a dozen reviews. Quite an investment for me, I must say.. so I was really expecting this set to deliver results. The first step is the Purity Made Simple cleanser. I'm quite happy with this one, since it's a makeup remover, cleanser and toner in one! How simple is that :) No need for me to buy separate makeup removers, and less hassle for me! I like the way it makes my skin feel soft and deeply cleansed after washing. My skin is a bit oily, and I can see a difference after using this. It can keep my skin oil free longer than my other facial cleansers. I'd consider buying it again, but it is quite expensive. Good thing it comes in a big bottle, so hopefully it will last me a good 6 months or so. An effective product, but I'd consider trying another brand that is equally effective, but cheaper.
