Gels/Soaps -Dove - Beauty Bar

This is a wonderful mild, moisturizing shower soap. It never dries me out even in the dead of winter. I wish the smell was a little "fresher" (the "summer care" version was really nice) but it's not really much of an issue.

Scrubs -St. Ives - Apricot Scrub Blemish and Blackhead Control

I've used this product (as well as the generic Target version, which is identical) a few times a week for years. It's just a great, cheap, basic exfoliating scrub with salicylic acid for removing blackheads and dull, dead skin.

Cleansers -Cetaphil - Gentle Skin Cleanser

This doesn't do anything for my skin. On most days I wear moisturizer with sunscreen, a few strategic drops of tinted moisturizer, concealer w/sunscreen around the eyes, and black mascara. This doesn't remove anything. If you're at all oily, as I am through the chin and t-zone, this stuff just isn't strong enough, either. It doesn't irritate but it also doesn't serve any purpose at all. Plus I think the texture is gross.

Cleansers -Olay - Gentle Foaming Face Wash w/ Aloe (Sensitive-Skin)

This is a gentle, cheap, effective cleanser that even removes makeup but isn't drying. It's mild but works well.

This is the best foot smoother! I slather it on after showering, cover up with some cotton socks, and go to bed. If I need extra smoothing because I've skipped it for a while I do a little buffing in shower and layer it over some AmLactin. It gives you pedicure-smooth feet without the work!

Toners -Kiehls - Cucumber Herbal Toner
rated 2 of 5
themeanreds 10/7/2010 7:23:00 PM

My skin usually loves cucumber so I hoped this would be a good soother for blotchy, sensitive days. This didn't make any real difference. For a toner this is relatively moisturizing. It didn't dry me out, but it didn't do anything else, either. I gave it an extra lippie for its lovely, mysterious deep green color.

Moisturizers -Olay - Complete Defense Daily UV Moisturizer SPF 30 - Sensitive Skin
rated 5 of 5
themeanreds 10/7/2010 7:15:00 PM

I love this moisturizer. It contains physical sunblock, it absorbs well, my makeup glides on easily afterward, it never breaks me out, and it's dirt cheap. I can't think of a single drawback.

Moisturizers -First Aid Beauty - 5 in 1 Face Cream SPF 30
rated 4 of 5
themeanreds 10/7/2010 7:12:00 PM

This is a nice light moisturizer packed with treatment ingredients and physical rather than chemical sunscreen, which is something I look for. I liked it but I've gone back to using Olay Sensitive Complete SPF 30; it's much cheaper and my skin looks the same.

Eye Makeup Remover -Almay - Moisturizing Eye Makeup Remover Pads
rated 2 of 5
themeanreds 10/7/2010 7:02:00 PM

These didn't work well for me. I needed to use pad after pad and they would just never take enough off. I don't like all that unnecessary rubbing in my eye area. I don't use that much eye makeup either--just some non-waterproof mascara and concealer. Baby oil or cold cream are much more effective, or even better that blue stuff from Lancome.

On me this smells like a sugar pastille and lasts just about as long. The packaging is beautiful, though.

I adore this warm vanilla scent and bought it for my husband, who now wears it all the time. He likes it and likes how much I like it, and he's even gotten compliments on it from other guys. It's a vanilla with real depth, no sweetness, and that nice, rubbery new-car note. It's also a true skin-scent with none of the sharp, overly aggressive top notes that men's fragrances often have. I think it would also be nice on a woman and would wear it myself but I think it's weird if both members of a couple wear the same thing.

Lipstick -Revlon - porcelain pink
rated 4 of 5

I really like this frosty, rosy pink. On me it looks almost neutral; it isn't very far from my natural lip color but it's shimmery. I love the classic Revlon lipstick tube.

This smells great and the packaging is adorable but my lips are drier than before I started using it at night, and now they are flaky, too.

Tinted Moisturizer -Tarte - Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Mosturizer (Smooth Operator)
rated 3 of 5
themeanreds 9/12/2010 7:45:00 PM

I don't think this is a bad product but the coverage was just slightly heavier than I hoped--I was expecting more of a tinted moisturizer than a foundation. The ingredients are impressive and I like that it has physical rather than chemical sunscreen but it's too pricey for me to buy again when it's just not sheer enough. I'll finish the tube I have and try to find something else. Maybe it's my own expectations that should be adjusted because I've never found a tinted moisturizer with a light enough formulation--maybe someone else would think this stuff was great.

Skincare - Body -Better Botanicals - Ayurvedic Body Oil
rated 5 of 5

I consider this oil an essential beauty product. I use it on my wet skin when I get out of the shower and although I live in a dry climate and still need to follow up with a lotion this makes a big difference in keeping my skin hydrated and comfortable. The smell is warm and subtle; it works well with my fragrances. I also used it during my entire pregnancy and didn't get a single stretch mark. Of course I can't say for sure that that's because of the oil but who's to say it wasn't a helpful factor? One thing I don't like is that they have changed to a spray bottle but that's not a big deal.
