Misc Beauty Tools -Unlisted Brand - Zeno Hot Spot Blemish Clearing Device
silverbrook 5/16/2010 9:00:00 PM
I got my Zeno at CVS for $35, and I have to say I do like it! Like any other product, I guess it works differently on different people. For me, it definitely reduces the sizes of pimples seemingly immediately. I've used it on cystic acne (and I know it says not to do that) and upon finishing the treatment cycle, the bump is immediately smaller! I guess it's melting away fluids or something. If you have a friend that has Zeno, perhaps you can borrow and try it for yourself, or get a dermatologist to try it on you if that is possible. I just wish it was a little cheaper, and a little more environmentally friendly.
First, I have to say, maybe people are applying this incorrectly if you are getting a lot of smudging. You have to be gentle and make sure you dont have too much product on the brush. That being said, this is a very average mascara. And the packaging is REALLY bad... I feel like if I'm not very careful, I will break the applicator off. I'll probably use it up, but I won't repurchase.
Eye Shadow -Maybelline - Stylish Smokes in Natural Smokes

I have been using this almost every day since I bought it. It's a really great, affordable little quad that you can take with you wherever you go if you don't feel like bringing along a huge eyeshadow palette when you travel. Love the colors! :) EDIT: FYI, when I first got this, it was difficult to get much color payoff from the lid color, but after a day or two when I broke through the "surface" of the shadow it became much more pigmented. The other colors were pigmented enough from the start for me. The highlight color is a little sheer, but still noticeable - this is what I need in a highlight color for an everyday look. I will definitely repurchase this again and again for its affordability and convenience.
Eyeliner -L'Oreal - Carbon Black Lineur Intense Felt Tip Liquid Eyeliner
silverbrook 4/18/2010 8:24:00 PM
I really, really love this liner. It stays on and does not move anywhere! And it's super black. And super easy to apply... it's kind of like using a marker on your face lol. I got it on sale for $5, so it was quite affordable. I think I plan to use this liner + the L'Oreal Kohl in Carbon Black as my everyday liners for the rest of my life. hahhah
I got this on sale at CVS for five dollars, and I'm really happy with it. It does not bleed all over my face in a weird way, it just sort of fades over time. The lasting power is pretty good though, and my eyes look pretty and smoky when I use it on my waterline. Love. Will always use this from now on. <3
I got this as part of a set of little Essie polishes, and I'm really happy with it as a base coat. I haven't tried it as a top coat because I just use Seche Vite for that, but it's great as a base! On its own, it's also very pretty as a clear polish. I also think it helps protect my nails from chipping and getting brittle.
Eye Makeup Remover -Almay - Non-Oily Eye Makeup Remover Pads

This product is not good. The pads are not saturated enough and they are really thin, so you end up rubbing your eye too much and then it hurts. And then the makeup is still not removed.
Eye Shadow -E.L.F. - Non-Stop Eye Color - Silver Lining
silverbrook 2/27/2010 7:10:00 PM
This is a great little quad for the price. The colors are decently pigmented, especially the two darker shades. The highlight shade is decent but not amazing, as is the pink. The pink is nice for adding a bit of shimmery soft color and is very flattering, though I wish it were a brighter, more visible pink. I still like all of the shadows very much.
Misc Beauty Tools -E.L.F. - Mechanical Eyelash Curler
silverbrook 2/27/2010 12:40:00 AM
This is a decent eyelash curler - it's definitely great for the price. It doesn't beat my Shiseido curler by any means. I just got the ELF curler, the new version today, and I find that the top metal piece is so large that it makes use awkward. It also is really difficult to squeeze! But it does curl decently, although not as well as the Shiseido curler and not as easily. It's rather cumbersome in comparison. But WAY better than my old Revlon curler that pinched my skin horribly and did not curl. I would def get this to carry around with you if you need to recurl your lashes during the day or if you want something for travel. It's only a dollar!
Eyeliner -Wet 'n' Wild - Mega Liner Liquid Eyeliner
silverbrook 2/25/2010 9:43:00 PM
This is such an awesome product! I've used liquid liner in the past (Revlon Colorstay) and found it very hard to apply. Moreover, it transferred everywhere, but that may be because I was not using primer at the time. I found that this eyeliner did not move with a primer, and I also found that application was very, very easy. The brush tip is very easy to work with. I'm so happy I went ahead and bought this in the dark brown. I will probably get more colors because it is dirt cheap and it works very well, unlike many products that can be much more expensive. EDIT: I am still really happy with this. It really does not move after you put it on. I've never experienced this in an eyeliner before. This is my HG eyeliner now. Dark brown is perfect for everyday use. And it is very easy to get a thin line. The brush is tiny! I don't know why the above reviewer said that it's difficult.
I was using a Revlon curler before I bought the Shiseido curler, and had NO IDEA what a big difference there was between the crappy drugstore product and the good stuff like Shiseido's curler. I get no pinching or pulling with this curler and it curls my eyelash hairs really nicely and they stay curled. With the Revlon, I had to stand there and curl and curl and curl, pinching my skin in the process, in order to get a curl to actually show. And then it would be straight again in five minutes. This little tool is definitely worth the investment. Especially if you have been suffering with drugstore curlers.
I dunno why everyone has had such huge problems with Ulta. Ulta is my favorite store to buy beauty needs! I like that they don't clean out your wallet like Sephora does. Everyone else must have terrible SA's and luck because the Ultas I've been to have been wonderful and it is my absolute favorite place to go to shop for makeup and beauty supplies. I like that they carry lower end and higher end products so you can pick up a lot of your staples in one place. And the coupons are great. And the sales are amazing. So... there you have it. My thoughts on Ulta.
Makeup Brushes -Sonia Kashuk - Synthetic Flat Top Multipurpose Brush
silverbrook 2/14/2010 12:32:00 AM
I've had this brush for.... about two years, and it hasn't fallen apart or shed any hairs or anything. I've used it to apply mineral foundation and liquid foundation and I think it works better for mineral since it's quite, quite dense and a bit stiff for liquid, I think. But it'll still work really well for liquid regardless. I really like the Sonia Kashuk brushes. They are great quality and very nicely designed (I like when brushes aren't completely round because then they roll off of surfaces lol). I would not use this for blush since I'm afraid it would put too much blush on!
This is a great product! I think it's like a "must have" sort of thing. I always use it to highlight my brow bone and sometimes I will use it on my lids as a base for other colors. It goes on very smoothly and blends easily and the color stays all day and does not crease. I use it on top of Too Faced Shadow Insurance. GET THIS NOW. You will not regret it! It's also just very convenient. I want to get a bunch of other jumbo eyeshadow pencils from NYX. I'm really happy with Milk.
I have a terrible rating right now, but not because the product doesn't work well on my face. Actually, it doesn't work at all! I just bought it at Rite Aid and I'm going to return it because it does not charge. I emailed customer service at Pretika and they answered me pretty promptly and were very helpful, asking me to send the unit to them so they could replace it. They told me that they haven't shipped units to Rite Aid since 2008, so don't go there to get Pretika! They'll be really old. I would suggest to check out Target or something like that to buy it. I have low tolerance for waiting so I'm going to return this to Rite Aid and probably go buy it from Target. FYI I bought it for $15... it was too good to be true I guess.
