Gels/Soaps -Kiss My Face - Olive Oil Soap
rated 5 of 5
redhair 4/15/2007 12:02:00 AM

I really like this soap - I bought it after my search for an all-natural soap brought me to the ewg.org website and this was toward the top of their list. I've just been using it on my face since I can't seem to part w/ my Dove soap. Plus the scent is kinda peculiar. It really gets off all my makeup though, and never seems to irritate my skin. It does leave it very squeaky clean though. So if you're looking for a creamy consistency or have dry skin, this probably is not the soap for you. My skin tends to be a bit oily and acne prone and I was basically looking for something that would be gentle and not irritate my face. No breakouts so far and I'm on my second bar. The listed ingredients are: Saponified Olive Oil, Water, Sodium Chloride, Citric Acid (a natural pH balancer).

Moisturizers -Aubrey Organics - Rosa Mosqueta Rose Hip Moisturizing Cream
rated 5 of 5
redhair 4/14/2007 11:01:00 PM

I love this moisturizer. It's so creamy and makes my skin feel soooo smooth!! It's unbelievable how soft this makes my face! I use Benzoyl peroxide all over my face to keep my skin clear and it sucks all the moisture right out. No matter how dry my skin is, this cream manages to clear up all the flakies and moisturize all the dry spots, especially under my eyes, so I don't look like I'm pushing eighty! It lasts all day, unlike some others that moisturize for like a minute and as soon as you start putting your makeup on, the flakes are back. I was a little nervous at first using a product that actually contains oil on my acne prone skin, but I have never broken out from this product, unlike with other oil-free moisturizers I used to use. It's also nice that it seems to dry to a nice matte finish instead of leaving you skin all greasy and shiny. It absorbs right in, does its thing but w/out making you look like an oil slick. I adore the fact that it's all-natural and that Aubrey Organics actually came up w/ their own natural way to preserve the product instead of adding parabens like almost all companies do. The only thing I dislike is the smell. It's pretty strong and it kinda smells like really old dried flowers. I can totally live w/ it though, this moisturizer is the best I have ever used!!

Deodorants -Unlisted Brand - Crystal Body Deodorant Stick
rated 4 of 5
redhair 4/14/2007 10:25:00 PM

After reading all these articles about how bad regular deodorant/anti-perspirants are for you, I paid a little visit to the ewg.org website to see if I could find something that wasn't so toxic. After being shocked at how many so called "natural" deodorants actually contain harmful ingredients I stumbled upon this one and after reading all the glowing reviews here decided to try it. Well, I've been using it for about a month1/2, two months and I really want to say that this is my new HG deodorant, but, well, it has its limits. If it's just a normal winter/spring day that I just spend lounging around or at work it's fine, but as soon as I start sweating it quits on me. Its hard to get used to actually feeling yourself sweat too and worrying that its gonna show on your shirt. After all, this isn't supposed to stop the sweat just the smell. Depending on the type of clothing material I'm wearing also determines the extent that this will work. Also it burns like hell if you put it on right after you shave. It definitely has its good points, though. It goes on completely invisible. No white marks, absolutely no scent. It doesn't even look like I made a dent in the amount of product provided. I won't stop using this for now, and I definitely like it for the cooler months, I just can't see using this once it gets to be summer though. Edit 5/5/07: Well, its May and this definitely won't cut it for summer, its been warm lately and its been stink city for me! Oh, well, guess this will get retired until October.

Treatments -Biore - Ultra Deep Cleansing pore strips
rated 5 of 5
redhair 12/4/2006 1:56:00 AM

These strips are amazing!!!!! They work so much better than the old ones! I had tried these years ago and they didn't do jack. But I was just so frustrated w/ my skin lately that I picked these up in desperation. I cleansed my face thoroughly first, even exfoliated w/ a blackhead clearing scrub and everything before I used these strips, and they STILL managed to pull out even more gunk. I stood there w/ my mouth agape just staring out how many blackheads were stuck to the strip. NOTHING I have tried, steaming, scrubbing, blackhead extractors, masks, pulls out as much as these strips! If you've never tried these or its been awhile, try 'em again, you'll be pleasantly surprised! One bit of caution though, if you tend to break out easily, wash you face after you use the strip. Whatever they use to make it stick on will make me break out a bit around my nose if I don't. Bit on the expensive side too. Still worth it though.

Moisturizers -Aveeno - Ultra-Calming Daily Moisturizer SPF 15
rated 2 of 5
redhair 10/2/2006 1:01:00 AM

At first I really liked this product. It has a nice, light, pleasant scent, goes on smoothly, and when I first put it on it seemed to relieve the dry patches on my face pretty well. However, (ah, you knew this was coming, lol) the relief is short lived. After a few hours of putting it on, my face is back to its normal flaky, dry self and after a few weeks of using this I'm getting tiny little pimples. And I KNOW its this b/c they're in the wierdest places like under my eyes. Plus, now it's starting to burn when I use it (probably b/c of those weird pimples). It sucks b/c it IS a nice light lotion and it did seem to reduce the overall redness of my skin in the beginning, and I adore the packaging of this lotion. Cute little twisty top is so easy to use and no lotion all over your luggage! Ah well, back to the drugstore.

Cleansers -Purpose - Gentle Cleansing Wash
rated 4 of 5
redhair 8/13/2006 9:53:00 PM

Nice and gentle, it never irritates my skin and its not too overdrying. Not great at removing makeup but not terrible either. It's a good choice to use w/ the Regimen (acne.org) since it is so mild - no salicylic acid or the like, but at the same time it's oil-free and non-comedogenic. Oh, and it doesn't leave that slimy leftover residue feel that some cleansers do, yuck! definitly a plus!

Treatments -Acne.org - Treatment
rated 5 of 5
redhair 8/13/2006 9:25:00 PM

OH..MY..GOD..THIS STUFF IS A MIRACLE! I have suffered w/ acne for about eleven years. In that time I have visited two dermatologists, taken both topical and oral meds and tried just about every drugstore otc meds I could get my hands on. The regimen and this product is the only thing that ever worked to this degree. I am finally acne free!! I'm still dealing w/ the leftover red spots and blackheads (which is the one thing this product really doesn't seem to have an effect on) but other than that, beautiful clear skin! I love that it's a gel so it doesn't roll into little balls when you try to put makeup over it (which btw I barely need anymore :) and the price is great; even with shipping it's much cheaper than drugstore brands. It IS a little overdrying, but if you follow the regimen and use moisturizer, you'll be fine. Expect initial redness, possible flaking, etc., but after your skin adjusts, no problems. Just give it a chance, THIS STUFF WORKS!!!!

Liquid -Clinique - Superfit Foundation [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
redhair 11/8/2005 5:27:00 PM

I'm the type of person who loves a good deal and can't see spending a fortune on cosmetics, but after being continually disappointed by foundation after foundation I finally decided that if this turns out to be "the one" I'll actually save in the long run. I was just about to start a new job and went for the splurge....and am so glad I did! The money you pay is worth the quality product you get. It goes on smoothly, (though you DO have to blend very well otherwise it will look darker and streaky on your skin) covers moderately, and best of all will NOT make you break out!!!! I've been wearing this product for over a month now and couldn't be happier, unlike so many of the "natural looking" makeups out there now, this one doesn't leave your face feeling sticky and won't leave you greasy. I only have to do one mid-day blotting session (and trust me I usually have pretty oily skin!). My only complaint is that it's not transfer resistant, which means you better be careful pulling that white sweater over your head or hugging someone b/c it WILL wipe off. I also contacted Clinique and made sure that this product was oil-free and non-acnegenic before I purchased. I definitely recommend this to anyone with acne prone skin - ditch the drugstore crap and just TRY this, don't wait as long as I did! Oh! and I also love the plastic bottle (no more worries about dropping it) and the squeeze tip top (very hygienic!). It's not miracle makeup, but it's a lot better than anything else I've tried (sans the defunct L'oreal Colour Endure)!

Styling Products -John Frieda - Frizz-Ease Secret Weapon Finishing Creme
rated 3 of 5
redhair 8/22/2005 2:15:00 AM

Eh. Maybe it tames flyaway's but doesn't do much for frizzy hair - and if you use a lot it makes your hair greasy the next day. I'll try something else next time.

Masks -Queen Helene - Mint Julep Masque
rated 2 of 5
redhair 8/22/2005 2:01:00 AM

I really was excited about this product and wanted to like it, but it gave me little whiteheads around my nose and cheeks that I've NEVER had before. Plus, it's been months now and they REFUSE TO GO AWAY! It's got a nice minty smell though that smells like Trident. But man does it tighten your skin when it's on and it left me all red for awhile afterwards. I think maybe it did make me feel a little smoother - ya know besides the whiteheads - lol - but definitly not worth it.

Conditioner -Pantene - Full & Healthy Lightweight Conditioning Foam Leave In
rated 2 of 5
redhair 8/22/2005 1:53:00 AM

This doesn't really do anything no matter how many pumps you use. Plus, you have to wet your hair first so why not just put in your normal creme conditioner? L'Oreal had a leave in conditioner a while back that I LOVED but I haven't seen it in ages. Too bad, this is no substitute.

Skincare - Face -Unlisted Brand - Skin Milk Facial Moisturizer
rated 3 of 5
redhair 8/22/2005 1:40:00 AM

I bought this b/c it was cheap and oil-free and thought it was pretty good until I tried Eucerin Skin Renewal Day Lotion - far superior. This might be good if you have dry skin b/c it's kinda thick but it just sat on my combo skin and took a long time to absorb. Burned under my eyes and the very strong vanilla scent gave me a headache. Plus I dropped the bottle two days after I bought it and the little stopper on the bottle broke off and jammed into it, so if I wanted to use it I had to screw of the cap - what a hastle! Definitely not the worst (there are so many bad one's out there!) but not the best either.

Moisturizers -Eucerin - Eucerin Renewal SPF 15
rated 5 of 5
redhair 8/22/2005 1:24:00 AM

Wow! Looks like I can join the club! I too read about this on acne.org and I'm in love w/ this moisturizer! I've tried other oil-free moisturizers before and didn't realize what good was till I tried this. It's light and goes on smooth, absorbs fairly quickly and best of all doesn't irritate the skin under my eyes which tends to be a bit sensitive. I love that it's non-comedogenic and non-acnegenic - I've been using it about four months now and it hasn't broken me out once, in fact my skin actually feels smoother! UVA/UVB protection - the whole caboodle. Plus it lasts a long time, has a convenient pump, and won't dump all over your luggage when you travel. My only complaint is that it does make my skin a bit shiny, but then again I tend to have oily skin to begin with so maybe it's just me. Oh, and it has a nice light suntan lotion smell too that reminds me of the beach - that'll be nice in the winter, lol.

Concealers -Revlon - ColorStay Under Eye Concealer
rated 3 of 5
redhair 8/22/2005 1:04:00 AM

I had high expectations after reading all the good reviews, but I wound up being pretty disappointed. I really liked the color (02 sand beige) but I found this concealer just wasn't good at covering and turned orange with powder over it. For liquid concealers I like Almay Amazing Lasting concealer much better even though the color selection isn't as good.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Triple Aquastay Mascara
rated 1 of 5
redhair 8/22/2005 12:53:00 AM

Sticks your lashes together like crazy, doesn't lengthen, smudges if you sweat (but incredibly waterproof - go figure). One of the worst mascaras I've ever used (though I still don't thing it tops L'Oreal's lash architect) but not as hard to remove as some people think if you use a good eye makeup remover like Neutrogena's oil-free one. But bad, bad, bad - don't buy to begin with.
