Mascara -L'Oreal - Telescopic
rcmann 7/3/2007 9:10:00 AM
Applying this mascara is much more work than I ever really want to put into makeup, but the end results are too good to stop using it. As others have said, it takes a few tries to get the hang of the brush and even when you do, a separate lash comb may be necessary to finish the job. This mascara also doesn't dry as quickly as most others, so don't sneeze or blink too hard for a couple of minutes after applying unless you want black rings under your eyes. When it comes time to go to bed, have a good eye makeup remover on hand because you'll need it to wash this off. This actually sounds like a terrible review, but aside from putting it on and washing it off, this is a great mascara. For most of the day, you'll have long, dark, thick lashes. No one else has to know how much time it took for them to get that way.

What a great color! I used two coats of this and it came out a lovely orange-red. I smile every time I look at my toes now!

Polishes -OPI - Mod About You
rcmann 6/8/2007 8:35:00 PM
I was expecting this to go on sheer, but it's not at all. It's a very light, bubble-gum pink. I'm a pale girl with pasty hands, but the polish color is warm enough that they don't look weird or corpse-like. The only complaint I've got is that--like all the newer OPI polishes--this one goes on streakier and chips more quickly than the older ones. My guess is that when they removed the questionable chemicals from their polishes recently, they went down in quality. But hey--I'll trade toxic chemicals for slightly streakier polish anytime.

Treatments -Clinique - Acne Sol. Emergency Lotion
rcmann 4/2/2007 2:54:00 PM
clinique's acne solutions emergency lotion is amazing. it's like the mr. clean magic eraser, but for skin. (and by that i'm of course refering to fact that both products work so well, you question whether you have inadvertantly sold you soul to satan by using them.) every time i have used this when bad skin starts coming on, it is cleared up within two days. seriously. pimples never even happen.

Polishes -OPI - Fair Dinkum Pinkum
rcmann 3/9/2007 5:32:00 PM
why do i feel like i should be wearing "electric youth" with this color? this is the bubble-gummiest shade of nail polish i've ever tried. wait--make that pepto. at any rate, this color doesn't seem it would be appropriate for anything beyond a barbie convention or '80s prom party. a single coat looked streaky, and a double coat became way too pink. yuck.

Clothes -American Apparel - All clothes
rcmann 1/5/2007 6:03:00 PM
Why can't this company make sense? Trading a living wage and decent working conditions for employees for sexual harassment for employees and anti-woman ads makes American Apparel a "nothing special" company. Beyond the political stuff, the product quality is so-so. Most of my AA shirts have held up well but their sizing is all over the map. Sometimes a medium fits, sometimes an extra large is too small. (I'm typically a size 8.) One thing's for certain: despite advertising that would make you think differently, the women's shirts aren't made for those with average-to-larger size breasts. If you're over a B-cup, get ready for an ill-fitting top. One positive thing I can say is that their jersey scarves are great. They come in every color and are very soft and comfortable.

Gels/Soaps -Neutrogena - Body Clear Body wash
rcmann 7/15/2006 1:28:00 PM
This stuff is great! After two or three days of using it, my back was completely cleared up and my skin feels great. It also worked wonders on my legs, where I often get ingrown hairs. And like others have said, it works as a face wash, too. My only complaint is that it can't be purchased in larger containers.

Hair -L'Oreal - Fresh Vive Shampoo and Conditioner in 1
rcmann 7/15/2006 9:16:00 AM
I love this 2-in-1 and now am having trouble finding it. My current bottle came from a random drugstore I went in while on vacation in another state last year. I've got fine, semi-oily (especially in summer) hair that tends to flatten by mid-day. This product cleans it beautifully and leaves it clean-feeling all day long. In the evening, my hair still feels like it's just been blown dry. Also, there's no build-up, which is great for styling, and no color stripping that I've noticed. I really wish the shampoos and conditioners I've paid more for worked as well, but they don't.

Polishes -OPI - I'm Yours
rcmann 4/3/2006 1:49:00 PM
this has now surpassed "honeymoon sweet" as my favorite polish. it has just enough shimmer to be eye-catching without being distracting. it's a very classic neutral that makes your nails look professionally done even if you've just got time to clean under them and put on a couple of coats of polish. the color is appropriate for anything--from a night out to work to a wedding. i'm pale and some milky sheers would make my nails look completely washed out. "i'm yours" has enough pink to liven nails up without looking overdone.

Masks -Aveda - Deep Cleansing Herbal Masque
rcmann 1/23/2006 4:33:00 PM
I got an Aveda facial and loved how my skin felt afterward so much that I had to buy this product. Using it at home I get the same results: soft, clear skin that has a nice glow to it. The packaging is great because you can use a little at a time, and you don't have to stick your fingers into a jar to scoop it out. I use it all over my face once a week, and as a "spot treatment" on problem areas every few days.

Lip Treatments -Aveda - Lip Saver
rcmann 1/23/2006 4:28:00 PM
This is the only lip product I've ever used that keeps my lips moisturized hours after I put it on. I can put it on before bed and it feels like I just used it when I wake up the next morning. And sure it costs as much as a handful of lip smackers, but I'd rather spend $7 on one product that actually works rather than a lot more than a bunch of products that don't do anything.

Lip Gloss -Smashbox - Lipgloss - Smashing Pout
rcmann 12/28/2005 10:17:00 AM
I got this as part of an 8-gloss set and love it, although I would've never bought it on its own. I'm fair skinned, so the gloss gives me just a hint of color and lots of shine without looking like frosting. (On someone with a darker complexion, it probably looks very '80s. But who doesn't want to look like JEM every once in a while?) It's a good nude that works well with dark eyeliner.

Lip Gloss -Smashbox - LipGloss *general*
rcmann 12/28/2005 9:41:00 AM
Like others have said, the texture and shape of the gloss containers is great. They're no challenge to open even if your hands are covered in moisturizer. The gloss itself comes in a really nice range of colors that look good on a variety of skin tones, and they're not sticky or gooey like other brands. The pigmentation is perfect and the gloss looks nice both over lipstick, pencil, or on its own. For people like me who hate lipstick, but want a little more color and shine, these glosses are perfect.

Palettes -Smashbox - real to reel
rcmann 12/28/2005 9:25:00 AM
What a great collection! I bought it from Sephora during their holiday gift-with offer, and have been pleased with all of it. I would've never purchased the Photo Primer on its own, but now it's a staple for me! Both lip glosses are fabulous, and the brow wax came in very handy after a recent ill-fated waxing. The eye shadow is the only item I'm not thrilled about, and it's mainly because I'm not a big fan of the browns. Also, I'm hooked on Flirt shadows from Kohls. All in all, this is a great kit!

Primer/ Corrector -Smashbox - Photo Finish Primer
rcmann 12/28/2005 8:48:00 AM
I've used other primers before and they've made my skin terrible (which is rare for me). This one does everything it's supposed without clogging pores or feeling heavy. Foundation goes on so smoothly and evenly over it that I find I'm using less of it, and it stays on all day. I'll definitely re-purchase, although hopefully always as part of a set so it doesn't seem as pricey.
