Powder -Fyrinnae - Mica-Free Mineral Foundation
mellody43 11/19/2007 12:34:00 PM
I ordered 2 samples of the mica-free foundation. They were horribly dry and chalky in texture. I dumped them into the sink to wash away and they made a sound like sand when they hit the basin. I've had lots of mineral samples in my day and have never seen a texture like this. Very strange.

Powder -Laura Geller - Balance-n-Brighten
mellody43 11/7/2007 2:06:00 PM
Have been using this a few days not as a foundation, but over my Vincent Longo Light Canvas TM. It gives a bit of an airbrushed look with no noticeable shimmer. I can't imagine this giving much coverage at all, but perhaps someone with perfect skin might use it to get nice finish. Will update if necessary. Doubt I would buy it again due to price and how long this product will likely last.

Conditioner -Brocato - Brocato Vibracolor Fade Prevent Conditioner

This is okay for my highlighted, dry, thick wavy hair... but not great. I don't think it's quite moisturizing enough. I am going back to DevaCurl's One Condition.

Cleansers -C.O. Bigelow - Deluxe Gentle Foaming Cleanser
mellody43 10/10/2007 8:11:00 PM
Most cleansers (even creamy ones or ones designed for drier skin) dry my skin out a little bit. I was in LOVE with a Dove cleanser (sensitive, creamy, fragrance-free) but it was discontinued. This is probably the closest to it in texture and result that I had found. This is not foaming so I feel the product name is misleading. It is like a lotion, best applied to dry skin, massaged in -- about 20 seconds in I add a tiny bit of water to my hands then continue massaging -- then rinsed. No fragrance (yay!). Packaging could be better -- it's thick enough that it is hard to get out. Bottle tends to hold squeezing indentations. I do like the sort of minimal packaging though. My skin tends to get a little red and dry/flaky easily from cleansers and this does not create either effect. I wish it were a little cheaper but hey, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!

Shampoo -Desert Essence - Italian Red Grape

Got on sale at Whole Foods. HORRIBLE. Once applied and lathered, I could not even get my fingers through my hair. I've never had that experience, even with $2 shampoos. Yuck! Went back immediately to WF.

Deodorants -Secret - Clinical Strength

Meh. Seemed to work nicely for a few days but then went kaput. Also, there is so little in the package that I swear it ran out after about 2 weeks. Try B Drier (similar to Certain Dri but no stingies) instead, with a deodorant over it.

Used twice on my naturally wavy/curly hair with diffuser; seems to have no effect whatsoever. Returning it to salon.

Lipstick -Neutrogena - MoistureShine Soothing Lipsheers [DISCONTINUED]

Great packaging. Okay colors. I bought two and honestly, these last on my lips for about 15 minutes. And they make my lips peel, which is very odd. Won't repurchase.

Moisturizers -Nivea - Sun-Kissed Facial Moisturizer
mellody43 6/11/2007 12:39:00 PM
This moisturizer is also a gentle self-tanner for the face. I HATED Neutrogena's facial self-tanner; it broke me out and smelled too strongly. This product has less of a fragrance and has not caused my somewhat sensitive skin to react at all. I am quite fair and got some color on my vacation; I bought this to 1) moisturize dry spots from the fading burned areas and 2) maintain a healthy glow. Though the product should not be used for sun protection (SPF 4 won't do a darned thing) I would recommend it for fair-skinned ladies looking to add a bit of color. May not be enough for very dry skin.

Powder -LaurEss - Elemental Mineral Foundation
mellody43 3/26/2007 8:02:00 PM
About Me: I don't like heavy coverage -- I've been wearing tinted moisturizer for several years now. My skin is a bit on the dry side in winter and a bit reactive. Goal is to even out skin tone, cover some minor red marks, moderate dark circles under eyes. I ordered a full size Lauress foundation (Gentle Neutral) and two concealer samples (Alabaster and Vanilla). They are indeed neutral colors; I might even be able to get away with the next darker shade in the foundation. The coverage is quite lovely -- definitely polished and less dewy than tinted moisturizer -- gives me sort of an airbrushed look. Concealer does a pretty good job of covering inner eye dark areas, and even on the reddish marks. After about 3 days of use, this hasn't dried my skin out at all. I don't have an issue with large pores but it definitely helps minimize any pores that were more visible -- I know that BE used to accentuate my pores where I hadn't been able to see any before. One minor issue -- which I thought would be solved by the fact that Lauress doesn't contain bismuth -- is that when I went dancing and got warm and a little sweaty, it was a little itchy =( I wish I knew what ingredient causes this! I never have that problem when I wear my TM. Anyway, overall, they have great color choices and I am pleased with the products.

Conditioner -DevaCurl - One Condition
mellody43 10/10/2006 5:16:00 PM
LOVE this conditioner. My hair is thickish, curly/wavy, on the dry side, and highlighted. This conditioner smells very nice, has a great texture/consistency, helps me detangle my hair, and leaves my hair manageable once I towel-dry it. I've never purchased high-end conditioners before - I'd say this one is mid-end in terms of price -- but I will repurchase again. I actually felt worried when I was running low. Off to Ulta I go!

Conditioner -Alba Botanica - Hawaiian Gardenia Hydrating Conditioner
mellody43 9/29/2006 12:46:00 PM
This conditioner SMELLS great. I really do like the gardenia scent. However, it doesn't seem to offer quite enough detangling action for me (dry curly/wavy colored hair). I fingercomb my hair while the conditioner is in it and I find that this product doesn't do what I'd like it to do in this regard. It's not bad, just not quite the level of the Deva Curl One Condition that I had been using before. Might be better for someone with straighter, smoother hair.

Lotions/ Creams -Paula's Choice - RESIST Skin Revealing 10% AHA Lotion
mellody43 9/1/2006 6:45:00 PM
I bought this to combat light/moderate KP bumpiness (not redness) on my upper arms. Although it has a slightly sour smell upon application, it seems to dissipate quickly. With almost daily application for about 1.5 weeks, the bumpiness is pretty much gone. GONE! I wish I didn't have to mail order this and that it wasn't fairly expensive, because I'd like to try it over my entire body. =) For now, I'll just use it on my upper arms/elbows and be happy with the results! Very good product. I like it a lot better than AmLactin, which I found very heavy.
