Highlighters -Face Stockholm - Yang Highlighter Quad

This is a very handy, versatile little highlighter kit. The colors are lilac, bronze, white & charcoal so it's a great one to keep in your bag to make the transition from day to night without going home first. I'm really pleased with the staying power, white shimmer usually fall right off me but this one lasts a long time. I really liked the combination of white in the corner if the eye and lilac on the lid, very pretty and fresh. The consistency is such that you can apply it with your finger or a sponge or a brush (with a light hand) although the little sections are a bit small to get at properly with a sponge. I bought this and the other set (Ying) and feel like I'm all set as far as highlighers and eyecolors are concerned. A bit expensive (£16 or about $25) but I'm confident it will get a lot of use and last a long time.

Highlighters -Face Stockholm - Highlighter in Sensual
ljanik01 2/1/2006 9:07:00 AM
I don't mean to start with a rant but for a product that costs £14 (0ver $20) there is not a lot of product and the packaging is a bit flimsy. I like the screw top containers but they feel very cheap. Anyway. The product itself is nice, I was looking for something similar to Benefit's pink highlighter and this is a great match. Sensual is a very pale, shimmery pink. Doesn't highlight my pores like I find some products do; the effect is very subtle so you just look a bit brighter and healthier. I expect to run out of this rather quickly, but I will probably buy it again (and whine some more about the price when I do!) :)

Blush -Face Stockholm - Trinity in Active

What an odd little product! I bought it online out of curiosity because I am looking for a good multi-purpose makeup for eyes, lips and cheeks, which is exactly what this is touted as. When I opened the package I was surprised by how purple it looks- online it looked pinky purple but it is definitely more purple than anything in reality. And yet don't be fooled by the color in the tin- you really should test it out before deciding. The color is an eggplant purple, gooes on quite light but I don't know how they expect a person to use this on their cheeks- they'd end up looking like a zombie, it's far too dark. But for the eyes and lips it is an interesting color, and would probably look nice on a range on skin tones. It also looks very shimmery in the tin, but when I tested it it's actually completely matte with very slight shimmer. There are absolutely no moisturising properties to this product-it is completely matte and dry. I am now curious to try the other colors because while I do like Active it is a bit dramatic for everyday. The quality seems good, after the first day the staying power was impressive. I do like Face Stockholm's packaging with everything in round twist-top containers, but the quality is a bit shoddy- I feel like it would crack easily if I twisted too hard. For the price they coould do better. Smashbox has the same design but theirs are far sturdier. One tip-this product is so matte that it doesn't look nice on your lips unless they are in very good condition (ie no flakes or chapping). I have tried putting it on over lip balm and/or under a clear gloss and it looks great.

Moisturizers -Aveeno - Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer spf15
ljanik01 2/1/2006 8:51:00 AM
I like this product. I didn't find it greasy like some do, although I am of mixed feelings about the smell. My mother gave me her bottle because she said the smell made her physically ill; I don't find it offensive but it's not exactly wonderful either. I do like the lotion itself, the shimmer effect is very subtle. However it does tend to wipe off on clothes so be careful if you apply it before getting dressed! Overall an ok product, I would probably buy it again because it looks and feels reasonably nice.

Lotions/ Creams -Palmers - Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula
ljanik01 2/1/2006 8:48:00 AM
The smell of this product is so good I am tmepted to eat it with a spoon! Seriously, the buttery chocolate scent is just divine. I sometimes feel as though my skin should taste sugary afterwards. Not only does it smell great but it's cheap and effective. Can't ask much more than that from a moisturizer. I recommended this to a pregnant friend because I heard it prevents stretch marks if used regularly- will post back when she has her baby to if it worked!

Lipstick -Nivea - Nivea True Intensity lipstick
ljanik01 2/1/2006 8:45:00 AM
Very, very, very pigmented so if you like rich color this is a great brand for you. I don't find the staying power to be that great but it's so pigmented that you don't need to reapply that often even if it does wear off a bit. I've always found that Nivea does great red lipsticks and this doesn't disappoint.

Cleansers -Burt's Bees - Garden Tomato Complexion Soap [DISCONTINUED]
ljanik01 2/1/2006 8:42:00 AM
This soap is definitely for oily skins- would be a bit harsh for dry complexions because it really gets rid of oil! I like the smell and color, and don't understand the complaints about the size of the bar. It's a pretty standard size for a facial bar soap and you need very little lather to get the effect. My only complaint is that it doesn't do a good job removing mascara, I have to lather up twice around my eyes (I hate eye makeup removers). A bit expensive but worth it (IMO) for something all natural.

Blush -Chanel - Waterlights Sheer Blush Stick
ljanik01 2/1/2006 8:39:00 AM
Love this product- it goes on quite creamy but spreads very well and feels lovely and cool. I've had mine for ages and there is still plenty left and it hasn't deteriorated in quality over time- I find some stick blushes tend to dry out. Very pleased. 4/5 only because of the price.

Mascara -Yves Saint Laurent - Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils
ljanik01 2/1/2006 8:36:00 AM
I wasn't all that impressed with this product. It was a bit clumpy and didn't give me the dramatic effect everyone is talking about. My lashes are average-to-thin to start with, maybe you need to have thicker natural lashes to have a good effect? I won't buy this again. Nothing special and very expensive.

Lipstick -Clinique - Almost Lipstick - Black Honey
ljanik01 1/3/2006 6:20:00 AM
One of those rare colors that seems to look good on absolutely every skin tone. I'm very pale with dark hair and it suits me really well. Good for those days when you don't feel like fussing over yourself- it helps you look a bit more finished than going bare faced! I would prefer if it came in a tub, though-while some people say it's easy to apply i find very thin lipstick tubes actually make things more difficult without a mirror.

Lipstick -Guerlain - Divinora 362
ljanik01 1/3/2006 6:17:00 AM
Lovely product. It feels very rich and creamy going on but the color is quite sheer, a pinkish plum. It's also possible to build up the color with blotting so it's a bit darker but I actually prefer how it looks with one coat. I also love the smell of Guerlain products, it's one of my favorite things about this brand. It's not overwhelming and as stated does not last very long once applied. The packaging is fantastic- I absolutely love having a mirror on the tube and the hammered "gold" case is very pretty and high quality. Mine has been rolling around my purse for a year and still looks new. I have another lighter color of this lipstick for spring- just a great overall product.

Pressed Powders -Guerlain - Meteorites Voyage
ljanik01 3/25/2005 6:14:00 AM
I love this product but the price of the compact really put me off. It's pretty but I'm not paying $100 for a fancy case. Instead I bought a refill and found a nice silver refillable powder compact at Boots for about 10 pounds- I'm sure you can easily find an equivalent in most drug stores. I use the meterites balls for my morning routine and the compact for touch-ups throughout the day. I have very fair skin and I find it relieves the pallour that can come with being pale. The voyage compact gives a bit more coverage than the balls but is still very light. I love the smell but it is quite strong so if you don't like violets you might want to steer clear.

Foundations -Clinique - Continous Coverage
ljanik01 2/11/2004 4:33:00 AM
Terrible. The packaging is the only thing I like. Other than that, it's too cakey, hard to blend (even after mixing with water or lotion) and the color choice is minimal. Absolutely nothing for pale skin- I looked like I had a mask on. I suppose it could be good for people with darker skin who need heavy coverage, but this is NOT for people with pale skin.

Mascara -Arcancil - Perfect Lash Creamy Formula
ljanik01 2/11/2004 4:29:00 AM
I was a bit skeptical when I bought this product because it's so cheap (5 dollars) and looks it-a fat blue plastic tube with silver stars. This is exactly why I shoudln't judge a product by the packaging. I've tried several expensive brands of mascars including Chanel, YSL and Clinique and this beats them all. The wand is very large and the formula is great, very creamy and not at all sticky. It covers well but doesn't clump even with more than one coat. There are several colors available, I have brown and green. For people who like colored mascaras in particular, you'll love this. Unlike a lot of brands I've tried you can actually see the color it's supposed to be. The green looks great on brown eyes. A great find.

Liquid -Clinique - Clarifying Makeup Clear Skin Formula [DISCONTINUED]
ljanik01 2/11/2004 4:19:00 AM
I generally hate wearing foundation because it always looks fake and cakey on me- usually I only wear clinique double face powder. I decided to give this a try and was pleasantly surprised. The color is a perfect match for my pale skin and makes my somewhat oily T-zone look very matte. It also covers pores well. This is a great product if you have slightly oily skin and like light coverage. I have some reddish areas on my face and this was just enough to even them out. I only use it on my T-zone and blend it outward. I will say that when used with the powder I mentioned, it looks a bit flakey. This was fixed by applying with powder with a brush instead of with the spongeit comes with.
