Lotions/ Creams -The Body Bakery - Maple Sugar Cookie
rated 5 of 5
ingenue 10/7/2003 12:21:00 PM

I'm starting to like this even more than their creme brulee scent!! This is SO delicious...it's a caramelly sort of sugar cookie with a sweet maple undertone, so it's sweet buttery goodness all rolled into one. Plus, the scent is so strong that it lasts for hours and hours and HOURS...I can still smell it on my hands and arms even though I applied it after my shower last night (12 hours ago). A definite repurchase item!

Lotions/ Creams -Simplyscents - Cookies 'n' Cream
rated 4 of 5
ingenue 10/1/2003 10:49:00 PM

I ordered this in the body butter formula, and it is all sweet vanilla and buttery cookie dry-down with some chocolate thrown in...so incredibly yummy!! The scent has great staying power too.

Mary's new butters (10/03) are lighter and fluffier than her previous butters, but it's just as moisturizing without greasiness...I'm officially in LOVE. It sinks in so fast and is so strongly scented!! Definitely a repurchase item...this will be great for my dry winter skin.

Lotions/ Creams -Simplyscents - Hot Cocoa Whipped Cream
rated 2 of 5
ingenue 10/1/2003 10:44:00 PM

This is the new whipped cream formulation (10/03), and I love this...it's smooth and light and delivers moisture without any greasiness...absolutely a divine cream for warmer weather. Might not be moisturizing enough for mid-winter, dry scaly skin, but that's why she has her fab butters ;)

The Hot Cocoa cream smells great in its jar, but dries down plasticky on me...it smells *exactly* like SP's S'Mores, which I swapped away for this reason. I'm disappointed cuz I know so many ladies ordered this and love this, but it doesn't work with my body chemistry *wails*

Lipstick -Stila - Lipstick in Kate
rated 2 of 5
ingenue 10/1/2003 2:27:00 PM

Looks like a medium brick red in the tube, but on my lips it looks like a matte orangey brown...not very flattering on my fair-ish MMM/C3 skin. Plus the formula is dry, and leaves behind a faint tint that looks nothing like the original color on lips, even after eating...nasty! I can see how this would be a great conservative color for other skintones, but it just doesn't work for me.

Lotions/ Creams -Aveda - Hand Relief
rated 5 of 5
ingenue 9/30/2003 12:33:00 AM

This has a light refreshing scent that isn't cloying at all. Coupled with a great moisturizing formulation that really soothes my dry chapped hands in the office and during the winter, this is another handbag staple besides L'Occitane's shea butter hand cream. About US$7.50 for the small 1.5oz/40ml travel size, but I find it to be worth every cent.

Polishes -Essie - Intimate
rated 5 of 5
ingenue 9/28/2003 10:00:00 PM

I've been straying from Ador-A-Ball and Ballet Slippers lately, and picked Intimate when I got my nails done yesterday. Intimate is a *very* pretty nude pale pink shade that gives the look of natural nails with a slight hint of shimmer that can only be seen if you look at the color up close. Simply gorgeous...a great natural shade with a bit of glimmer for glamour ;)

Eye Shadow -MAC - Trax
rated 4 of 5

Gorgeous eggplant with gold shimmer sprinkled throughout...this is a surprisingly versatile shade that can be used dramatically or subtly. My fav every day look is to apply this sheerly in the crease over Vex as a wash, and if I'm going out at night and want an eye-catching look, I wear this with Surreal...this combo is a real pop of color, and I get compliments every time!

Shampoo -Charles Worthington - Dream Hair Bright Future with ColorKeeper
rated 3 of 5
ingenue 9/25/2003 11:10:00 AM

This is supposed to keep my hair color from fading, but it's too soon to tell. So far so good though...this didn't cause any color bleeding (as opposed to when I used Amber's Daisy's shampoo & conditioner on my newly colored hair - see review for AD Vanilla Lace conditioner), so that's a good sign. The shampoo itself is creamy and pretty-looking, but it doesn't lather very well. Still, it cleaned my hair without drying it out...I could still run my fingers through my wet hair, even without conditioner.

The two BIG downsides to this are the packaging and the smell...why on EARTH would you package ANYTHING that's to be used in the shower in big round bottles with screw-on caps? And the wide base caused the bottle to slide off the side of my tub a couple of times...gah. Hey did I mention the smell? Nauseating old lady overwhelmingly headachy floral...hello I like my florals, but this is WAY too much!!! What a stench. I thought it'd wear off after I slept on it, but 12 hours after shampooing my hair and I still smell it...dern it!!! I don't know if I like the overall product (packaging and stench included) well enough to ever purchase this...thank goodness I was given this by a friend who works on the line. The Dream Hair line used to be sold at Sephora...it's now being exclusively sold at very select Bloomingdale's.

Conditioner -Amber's Daisy - Shea Butter Conditioner - Vanilla Lace
rated 4 of 5
ingenue 9/23/2003 12:00:00 PM

A very perfumey and gorgeous vanilla scent. It's supposed to be a knock-off of the Victoria's Secret scent of the same name, but since I've never smelled that, I can't comment on how accurate it is. However, I do know that AD's version smells heavenly...I can't stop sniffing my hair! I knocked off a lipstick because I can't seem to get the shea bits to melt even though I rub my hands together before application, and my hair isn't being moisturized well as a result. Plus, I noticed my hair color bleeding as I rinsed off even though AD's conditioners are supposed to be safe for colored hair.

Candles -Scentual Pleasures - Red Apple tart
rated 3 of 5
ingenue 9/22/2003 9:16:00 PM

Smells like delish and crunchy fresh red apples, but the scent throw wasn't all that fab, and it only scented my room for about 6 hours...I was expecting it to go for at least 10. Plus there's that whole crumbly issue again...SP's tarts are the crumbliest of any I've ever tried, which I don't understand :/

Lotions/ Creams -Brown Bag Bath & Beauty - Body Whip
rated 5 of 5
ingenue 9/22/2003 9:04:00 PM

Brown Bag's whips come in classic brown jars...I love the simple organic packaging. These whips are lovely and luxuriously creamy, and they're supposedly lighter than their butters. Still, they might as well be butters if you look at the ingredients: mango butter, shea butter, coconut oil, Vitamin E, aloe vera gel...very moisturizing on my skin! It didn't take that long to absorb, though a little does go a long way because it's pretty rich stuff.

Scent-wise, Mango is juicy and yummy and gorgeous as I already knew from having a scrub in that scent, Papaya is the *exact* same scent as Cottage Shoppe's, and Dark Chocolate smells more like milk chocolate than dark. Brown Bag's scents do scent the skin rather subtly (instead of "smack in the face" like I usually like), but I think I could get used to that. Doesn't last a long time though...a couple of hours tops.

Overall, I'd definitely repurchase...perhaps asking Meagan to scent them more strongly next time. Oh, and her CS is excellent :)

Scrubs -Brown Bag Bath & Beauty - Sugar Scrub (all)
rated 5 of 5
ingenue 9/22/2003 8:57:00 PM

I love these sugar scrubs because they're large Turbinado sugar granules that give a great scrubbing effect and leave my skin so soft and smooth. Plus, there's *just* the right amount of oil for moisture (I don't like overly oily scrubs), and my tub isn't slick and slippery afterward. And don't get me started on the scent...I have this in Mango and I love it!! Definitely a repeat purchase scrub...and the price is most definitely right ;)

Eye Shadow -Stila - Oasis Eyeshadow
rated 5 of 5
ingenue 9/22/2003 12:16:00 PM

A very versatile shimmery champagne gold shadow that applies sheer and looks amazing on my MMM complexion. It should look good on everyone though, since it's neither too warm nor too cool...a very neutral gold shade that I wear year-round. I love wearing this as a wash alone, or under Golightly in crease. Stila's shadows don't last as long as I'd like on my somewhat oily eye area...it's usually gone after about 4-5 hours.

Candles -Scentual Pleasures - LEMON POUND CAKE tart
rated 3 of 5
ingenue 9/17/2003 1:49:00 AM

Very strongly scented, but I smell too much lemon and a funny Pine Sol hint to it, and not enough pound cake. The pound cake is *so* faint...perhaps next time around I'll ask Sherri to tone down the lemon and up the cake. The throw is very strong though, which is great. Hate the way the tarts are so crumbly and soft, but SP's tarts in general are really worth picking out the bits from the bag :)

Eye Shadow -MAC - Vex
rated 5 of 5
ingenue 9/16/2003 11:34:00 PM

I think I've found my HG eyeshadow. Vex looks like a semi shimmery, interesting sort of gray in the pot, but when applied on my MMM skin, it is awesome as a wash as it complements ANYTHING that I wear on my eyes & face, as well as my clothing. It's the most versatile eyeshadow that I've ever owned, and whether alone as a wash or under different eyeshadows, it looks simply gorgeous. I can't quite see the green in this like so many reviewers have stated, but I do see the hints of pink, but nevertheless it looks beautiful as a wash under my new fav smokey eyed combo, Greensmoke (lid) and Humid (crease).
