Eyeliner -L'Oreal - Infallible Eyeliner in Black
horkusone 2/22/2009 12:50:00 AM
I purchased this in Black-brown and I am really happy with it. My eyeliner always seems to migrate down and I already have dark circles under my eyes. So by the end of the day, I look like I have not slept in a week. This stuff does what it should - it stays put. It is also very easy to apply since it goes on smoothly but it is not so soft that it makes a mess. I am bothered a bit by the price but if it means it will stay in place, it is worth it. UPDATE: This stuff is truly amazing. It really, really does stay in place all day! I am no longer using any of my other liners because... what is the point? None of the other ones have the staying power of this. I am going back to the store to get this liner in more colors. Awesome stuff!

Foundations -Lumene - Hydra Drops Ultra Light Makeup SPF4
horkusone 2/21/2009 7:23:00 PM
I bought this on clearance and I was lucky that the palest shade was still available - 012/Spring Mist. I am very fair skinned and when I looked at this in the store, I was not at all convinced that it would not be too dark for me. Fortunately, I was wrong and it works quite well on my skin. Not too yellow, not too pink. I like the tube and the moisturizing quality is very good. Almost too good. I have found that even with my powder used on top, my eye makeup tends to run a bit from the oiliness. This was surprising to me - my skin is typically so dry. So, it definitely moisturizes but it is a bit of overkill for me. The best thing about this is that I can just throw it on my face and go. That is why I was in the market for a tinted moisturizer in the first place and this one is perfect for that. It adds just enough color and provides a smooth, healthy look to my face when I do not have time or the inclination to apply a full makeup job. Since it was on clearance, I am assuming that it is being discontinued. I suppose when this runs out, my search or another good one will continue. Good stuff though!

Blush -Sephora - Blush
horkusone 2/21/2009 7:14:00 PM
This review is for Sephora's Blush Me! and not their regular blushes. I bought this along with my foundation online and I needed something to put me over the 50 dollar free shipping deal. I can always use a new blush and this was pretty cheap (10 dollars) so I got it in Rose Rebelle. Because it was just a throw-in, I was not expecting much but I have to say this is good stuff! It is very finely milled and as a result, the application is smooth and pretty. It lasts for most of the day as well. The color seems to have some gold flecks in it when you look at it in the container but on your skin, it is not shiny or shimmery at all. It is just a nice cool pink that blends remarkably well for the price. My only complaint is that because it is so fine, it leaves a lot of "dust" in the pot. Instead of having to blow all of that away into the air, I have been more careful when I put it on. I make sure to to just barely touch it with my brush until I get the right amount. That way I am not wasting too much. Other than that, this is a great blush at a reasonable price. Lots of pretty colors to try as well.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Double Extend Beauty Tubes Mascara in Black
horkusone 2/21/2009 5:31:00 AM
This may be a premature review but I am so excited that I just had to sit down and comment! I just used this mascara for the first time and while I think I still need some practice with application, this stuff ROCKS. I have never used any type of tube mascara before and wow - I wish I had been using something like this all along. The length is absolutely astounding. I have never seen my lashes so long before now. I agree with another reviewer that it does not do much for thickening but again... wow... the overall effect is gorgeous. As I said, I literally just used this stuff so I cannot yet comment on the removal. The older I get, the more aware I am of tugging and pulling at my eyes in order to remove my makeup so the idea that it only requires water is really what led me to try this product. From the reviews here, it seems that no one has complaints about the removal so I am thrilled about that. As far as application, I do think there is a learning curve. I am interested to see if letting the primer dry a bit longer makes a difference as well as NOT letting the primer dry as much. I found some middle ground this morning but this is one I want to make sure I am getting the most out of and frankly, it is fun to put on! Because I have not had much experience with it, I am giving 4 lippies for now. Will update to 5 if it turns out as great as I expect it to. I think I have found my HG. That means a lot coming from a mascara junkie!!! Right now, my lashes look super long, curled and well... amazing. I dislike the double-ended applicator but I have always been happier with two individual tubes. It seems to be a small price to pay for the gorgeous results. TRY IT! UPDATE: This stuff is just as cool as I thought it was when I first brought it home. I use it almost everyday and only pick something else when I am really in a hurry to just slap something on my lashes. Otherwise, this gets pulled out every time! It did take some practice to get the best results. I have found that, like what some other reviewers said, it works best if you use the mascara immediately after you apply the primer. Make certain that the primer is still wet and the effect is fantastic. One of the coolest things about this stuff is that if you just want to freshen your eyes up, all you have to do is use a curler and BOOM! It is as if you just reapplied. 5 Lippies for this one!

Fragrances -Ralph Lauren - Lauren

I have never worn this perfume but I feel I owe it a great review because my mom (who passed away 10 years ago) wore it everyday. On her it smelled beautiful, graceful and feminine. Because she was all of those things herself, it was the perfect signature scent for her. I remember the bottle attracting my attention often. The burgundy glass (which kept the secret of just how much was really left in there) along with the rounded top were too intriguing for me to not grab it from time to time. Even the weight of the bottle made it feel as though it was something special and luxurious. But, again, the scent was a long flowing dress, a gentle breeze and a beautiful smile. Whenever I am in a store and I see it, I am compelled to breathe it in and remember.

Fragrances -Giorgio Armani - Acqua di Gio (for women)
horkusone 10/20/2008 1:25:00 AM
This is a really yummy and fresh perfume that I think I consider to be my second favorite next to L'eau D'Issey. It is very floral at first and because of that, I was not sure I was going to like it much. That wore off though and the dry-down is fantastic. Sort of aquatic like another reviewer mentioned and some other notes I cannot quite place. Perhaps Lilly or Jasmin? Either way, it smells great on me and is perfect for when I want to feel utterly feminine without going overboard with rose or lavender scents. The lasting power is good but not great. I am ok with that though because I can always reapply. That always beats out the fragrances that overwhelm and never seem to "calm" down. I am not crazy about the bottle but that is irrelevant. The content is lovely!

Sephora's website kept recommending this to me based on my other fragrance choices and I finally had a chance to try it out today. LOVE IT! It is clean and sexy - just a touch of warmth but does not have musky undertones at all. It is a truly beautiful perfume that has better staying power than I would have guessed based on it's subtle nature. I did not purchase today because perfume is just not in my budget right now. However, this is not an expensive fragrance and I will be buying it just as soon as I can.

Scrubs -Unlisted Brand - Petal Fresh Pure Aloe & Apricot Facial Scrub
horkusone 10/20/2008 1:03:00 AM
Wow! I picked up a tube of this at TJ Maxx for a mere 3.99 and it is awesome! I have tried so many different scrubs and although I have a couple of really good ones, most are either too gentle, too harsh, too oily or just plain ineffective. This stuff, however, is my new HG. I have never even heard of this brand but when I saw it in the store, I thought why not try it for such a good price. The bonus here is that it contains Vitamin A, E and glycolic acid. All this plus the wonderful essential oils like Eucalyptus and Clove make it a fully effective scrub and it smells divine. I just wish I had found this a long time ago. My skin felt like a baby's bottom after I used it and I cannot recommend it enough. It might be a wee bit strong for sensitive skin but it also might work to use a larger ratio of water to product and then increase the strength over time. Sounds like a pain but it would be worth it if your skin seems to be irritated at first. The tag said the regular retail is 7.99 and I would happily pay that in the future. However, at the price I paid, I got a DEAL! Give it a try! Oh - the brand is based on botanicals and they do not test on animals. Yay! BTW - I just looked around online and although it is not the easiest product to find, I did see a couple of listings on ebay and the prices are great. I will definitely be stocking up on this gem.

Fragrances -Cartier - eau de Cartier

This is almost the perfect perfume for me. Almost. It is so clean and fresh with just a hint of sexiness. The bottle is gorgeous in its simplicity and the price is really not that high. However, it just does not last! It is so frustrating to find yet another perfume that I love that seems to disappear in an hour or so. The other one that does that on me is Lollia's Believe. Smells so incredibly yummy but no one ever gets a chance to smell it on me! UGH! 10/19/08 EDIT: Well, it turns out that I can put on a little more at a time and it seems to last longer. But EEEK! It turned into a scent that is almost all black pepper on me. THAT is NOT sexy and now I really won't be buying it again.

Oh how I loved this perfume until the dry-down. It started out fabulously feminine and I sprayed it on me in the store thinking I would soon be back to purchase it. Well, about an hour later, it smelled so musky and raunchy that I was dying to get home to wash it off. And that, btw, was no easy task. I keep thinking I still smell it and it is just terrible. I agree with the other reviewer that compared this D & G Light Blue. It has that awful burned sort of musk smell. Ugh. I am so disappointed but also grateful I did not just grab and buy.

Treatments -Lumene - Vitamin+ Radiant C Beauty Drops
horkusone 10/13/2008 2:13:00 AM
I have not actually used this product but I am doing research on Lumene. It seems that nearly all of their products get great reviews here and I am planning a trip to CVS tomorrow to try some items. Just wanted to mention to anyone using this product that Ascorbic Acid is the most unstable form of Vitamin C in cosmetics. It does not hold on to its potency for very long at all and in some cases, is already useless once you bring it home. I noticed one reviewer mentioned a yellow tone to the liquid inside the capsules and that is a definite sign that it has oxidized and is no longer effective. I have been using Vitamin C products for three years now and have learned a lot - just wanted to pass this info along!

Fragrances -Issey Miyake - L'Eau d'Issey
horkusone 10/12/2008 12:11:00 AM
I have found my new favorite scent. The only problem is that is too expensive for me to buy a full size bottle right now so I have been getting the samples and mini bottles. I absolutely love the way it smells at first and, more importantly, the dry down on me. I have trouble finding perfumes that do not turn really musky on my skin but this one does not. It maintains its fresh and sexy notes all day. Oh yeah - the staying power is fantastic as well. You only need to spray it once and you are set for the day.

Skincare - Body -Vaseline - Cocoa Butter Gel Body Oil
horkusone 10/10/2008 2:48:00 AM
This is nothing more than mineral oil with cocoa butter scent. A total waste of money considering I can get a bottle of mineral oil for a 1/4 of the price I paid for this stuff. Granted, it does smell good but like baby oil, it is does not moisturize for long and it is waaaay too much trouble with all the stickiness. Would not recommend and will not repurchase.

Mascara -Rimmel - Glam Eyes
horkusone 10/7/2008 10:32:00 PM
I really like this mascara and I am junkie for sure. I have tried them all and it is the one item that I am always buying. I love to try out new ones and I am liking the way this one makes my eyes look. I am not crazy about the brush but I am just personally partial to regular brushes as opposed to the comb-like one this comes with. However, it does give my eyes a fancier look and the coverage on my lashes is great for going out. Not the easiest to remove but that is what I hope for in a mascara. It does not run nor does it flake off onto my face. Nice price too.

Liquid -Revlon - ColorStay Active Light Makeup SPF 25 ] [DISCONTINUED]
horkusone 10/7/2008 10:28:00 PM
This is a staple in my arsenal and as long as they make it, I will buy it. I normally use Make Up Forever but I try to save that for special occasions because it is a bit pricey. This foundation gives me an alternative to MUF and I use it on a regular basis. The color match is nearly perfect - it blends beautifully. It has enough coverage to hide imperfections but it is not heavy at all. I love the tube and the price. It never breaks me out and it does not run when I sweat. What more could I ask for? I suppose just that they never discontinue it!!!
