Bronzers -Cat Cosmetics - Catnip Bronzer

MY FAVORITE BRONZER! I got this as a part of the Love Match palette. even though I'm pretty pale (NC15), I use this bronzer to contour my face, and it looks great while giving me a nice tan glow. I like how it's shimmery but not too glittery, and the tone is not too orange. I've actually hit pan on mine :) also, it looks great with the Whiskers blush included in the Love Match palette, for a perfect summer look!

Makeup Brushes -Ecotools - Bamboo Angled Eyeliner Brush
rated 5 of 5
fihe 4/22/2012 11:52:00 PM

Great little brush! mine always has a couple of hairs sticking out a bit, but it doesn't interfere with eyeliner application at all. it's easy to control and easy to clean; I just use a little oil to get the creme eyeliner off, then wash with soap and water. I don't see the need for more expensive eyeliner brushes when this one works just fine.

Lipstick -Milani - Mandarina
rated 3 of 5
fihe 3/17/2012 11:56:00 PM

Great color, not-so-great formula. it has a weird, strong smell to it, and I wish it were more opaque; it has a somewhat thin consistency. this lipstick also makes the skin on the inside of my lips get all "filmy" and disgusting, which means I need to rub it off and then reapply every few hours. I got Milani Mandarina when it was 75% off at CVS, but the next time I need a bright orange lipstick, I think I will try Revlon Siren instead.

Blush -New York Color - Powder Blush In Park Avenue Plum
rated 2 of 5
fihe 1/16/2012 2:39:00 AM

I bought this blush hoping that it would be good for contouring. it's not. but it's not even good as a regular cheek color for me! it's so powdery and chalky and has poor pigmentation. it also doesn't look plum on me, which is disappointing because I specifically wanted a plum-colored blush. I'm pretty pale (NC15) and I need to use a lot of this product for it to show on my skin. and if I'm wearing powder foundation as opposed to liquid, it's almost impossible to make it visible. I'm confused as to why other people writing reviews for this product have had success with it, even those who have darker skin than me. perhaps I just got a bad batch? I wouldn't buy this again because there are other blushes in the same price range that are well pigmented and not so powdery.

Eye Shadow -Wet 'n' Wild - Idol Eyes Creme Shadow - Graphite
rated 4 of 5
fihe 1/10/2012 12:42:00 AM

I had originally written a horrible review for this product because I hated how much it smudged and therefore wasn't suitable as an eyeshadow base. however, I've since changed my mind and bumped up my rating of it from a 1 to a 4. the reason for this is because I have found that it works great for when I /want/ a smudgy look. when I don't feel like using much eye makeup, I'll apply my Avon Glimmersticks black eyeliner. I don't normally care for it because the twist-up pencil makes it difficult to draw a thin line, but if I apply my Wet n Wild Graphite pencil over the eyeliner and then smudge it up onto my eyelid with my finger or a cotton swab, it creates a really pretty yet effortless look, almost like a smokey eye. I'm happy I've found a good use for two products that I otherwise would hate. I posted a picture of myself wearing my "easy smokey eye" :) notice that it creases a bit once it gets to the eye crease. I didn't use any eyeshadow base but I'm sure using a little bit in the crease area would prevent that.

Eyeliner -Avon - Waterproof Glimmersticks G04 Blackest Night
rated 2 of 5
fihe 1/10/2012 12:37:00 AM

I love the regular Avon Glimmersticks eyeliner so I figured I'd try the waterproof kind too. well unfortunately, it is not nearly as good. despite being called waterproof, it will not stay on my waterline, and it transfers and smudges like nobody's business! I would rate it a 1 if I haven't figured out a way to make it work. I have realized that it will stay pretty well if I simply set it with eyeshadow. but who has time to do that? I'll keep doing that until I use up this eyeliner, but after that, I'm going back to the regular Glimmersticks formula for sure. in the meantime, I'm also using it as an eyeshadow base.

Lip Gloss -Cover Girl - Natureluxe lip balm Hibiscus
rated 5 of 5
fihe 1/6/2012 12:17:00 AM

this gloss balm is a beautiful medium/deep pink with no shimmer. this is what I wanted Revlon Soft Rose to be (but in a slightly different hue): a nice bright yet fairly natural "flushed" pink. Soft Rose looks too dark/bright on me for this purpose. the formula also makes it very easy to put on, and when wound all the way down, it actually goes inside the tube so I don't need to worry about nicking the stick when I put the cap on. I'll definitely be buying this again, and perhaps some of the other Natureluxe gloss balms!

Mascara -Cover Girl - Clear Mascara
rated 5 of 5
fihe 1/3/2012 11:41:00 PM

I got this during a BOGO50% sale because I needed another CG item and I realized I needed an everyday brow product. this item completely fits the bill! now, it is marketed as a mascara, and it has a curved wand, but I rated it as a 5 anyway because it nevertheless works very well to keep brows in place and is a good price. it also helps that Cover Girl products go on sale a lot and coupons for them are often in the Sunday paper. a highly recommended item.

Eye Shadow -Physicians Formula - smokey hazel eyes
rated 5 of 5
fihe 1/3/2012 11:32:00 PM

even though my eyes are brown and not hazel, I got this anyway because I liked the shades of purple and grey. I have uploaded a picture of my palette with the shades numbered 1 through 9. I always use shades 1-3, 4-6, and 7-9 together. I guess I could use them in other combinations, but I feel like the palette was organized the way it was for a reason :P I only really use the last three shades for a more dramatic look, but even with that, it still looks very pretty and actually does have a smokey effect! the other six are great for more natural looks. this product was a mainstay in my travel makeup bag this past semester of college, when I slept over on campus at a friend's place and needed a quick but nice eye makeup look fit for a professional setting (I was observing at a school) all in one palette. between its versatility, convenience, and nice colors, this palette rocks!

Eye Shadow -Maybelline - Cool Effect Liner/Shadow in Chill the Champagne
rated 3 of 5
fihe 1/3/2012 11:22:00 PM

this color is a cool pale champagne yellow with some shimmer. I think it may crease if I used it on its own (like all cream shadows, in my experience) but it works great as an eyeshadow base! it doesn't break in pieces when I sharpen it, but I noticed that the inside of the pencil gets loose. one time it tried to slip out of the wooden casing! that may be very helpful for those who wanted to depot their pencil anyway, but I like mine in pencil form for the sake of convenience :P but anyway, this is a versatile color that I really like. I'm not sure if it's still being made, so I guess I'll need to find an NYX jumbo eye pencil in a similar shade once I run out of this. UPDATE 04/12/12: lowered this from a 4 to a 3, because the inside of the pencil gets loose and slips out of the wooden casing! I had to throw it away because it kept slipping out and then fell on the floor. not cool.

Concealers -Garnier - Anti-Dark-Circle Eye Roller
rated 5 of 5
fihe 1/3/2012 11:15:00 PM

My favorite undereye concealer EVER! I've been using this for a few months now. my skin is an NC15 tone but this color is supposed to be for all skin tones (well, a new color for dark skin was just released). it's not too dark on me. it has a peachy-yellow tone that helps to concealer my bluish-purple dark circles, and it never looks cakey. whether I'm wearing liquid or powder foundation, or even none at all, I use this product every single day!

Eyeliner -Wet 'n' Wild - Mega Eyes Creme Eyeliner - Black
rated 3 of 5
fihe 11/20/2011 2:18:00 AM

this is my first creme liner, so I wanted something cheap. I purchased this for $3.99 and it really delivers despite the low price! although I've heard from some people that it dries up fast, I've had mine for probably two months now and it's just fine. just make sure that you secure the top well, because it's a little tricky to get it on tight. as for the application, it goes on smoothly with my Ecotools slanted eyeliner brush, and is a nice intense black. it also has pretty good staying power on the waterline! I don't see why I'd ever need to purchase another cream liner if this one works so well for the price. UPDATE 04/22/12: I've realized that this eyeliner tends to dry out quickly, I guess because the packaging is not exactly airtight. I suggest to anyone having problems with their WnW cream liner drying out to buy a new one, and with that one, just scoop out a tiny bit to keep in a separate container, so that the eyeliner in the original packaging will not be so exposed to the air. but as for my already-dried out pot, I figured out that I can revive it by adding a few drops of eye drops and mixing it in. Good as new! UPDATE 05/25/12: lowered my rating from a 4 to a 3, because today I used it and it was dried out, and I had to revive it with eye drops AGAIN. when mixing the drops with the eyeliner, I made a huge mess on my hands that was difficult to wash off. the problem is that the packaging of this product is really bad at keeping the eyeliner from drying out. even though it was cheap, I will try another inexpensive gel liner after I finish this (if I don't throw it away); something with airtight packaging.

Mascara -Rimmel - Lash Maxxx
rated 3 of 5
fihe 7/21/2011 12:41:00 AM

I got this in a swap. I thought it would be interesting to try a mascara without the typical wand. this one has a comb wand. the problem with this kind of wand is that it makes it difficult to make the lashes appear thick; wiggling the wand back and forth just makes the lashes appear clumpy. therefore, I would say this is strictly a lengthening mascara. also, I need to use a lash comb after each application because it clumps up on my outer left eye's lashes (they're kinda weird and overlap each other a bit). Lash Maxxx has a wet texture, so if you sneeze or otherwise tightly close your eyes before it's dry, it'll smudge. I also find that it often smudges all over my eyelids. therefore, I prefer to use this mascara when I am not wearing any eyeshadow. I wouldn't buy it again though. stupid wand.

Liquid -Revlon - ColorStay Makeup
rated 5 of 5
fihe 6/12/2011 8:04:00 PM

Revlon Colorstay is AWESOME! I use the kind for combo/oily skin, in the shade Buff. I hate that the bottle doesn't have a pump, which makes it quite hard to get the right amount, but I put it in my own pump bottle. now I can easily control how much I use! now, this foundation is full coverage and dries quickly, so make sure you spray your foundation brush with water and apply to sections of your face at a time. and blend well! also, this is the ONLY foundation I've ever used that has ever survived 90°+ heat all day without melting off. I don't use it every day, but rather I like to save it for occasions where I need my foundation to last all day. also make sure you wash your face very well when you remove it. one time I tested out this foundation on my arm and took a shower, and it was still there! :O finally, some people have expressed complaints over the smell, but I like it. smells like clay or something.

Foundations -Meow Cosmetics - Pampered Puss Mineral Foundation
rated 3 of 5
fihe 5/24/2011 10:17:00 PM

I first tried Meow Cosmetics a long time ago. I absolutely love how they have so many different shades and undertones of foundation colors. it took me a long time to find my ideal shade because there are just so many! I have fair skin and a neutral skin tone, and I use Frisky Korat. I used to use Sleek Korat but then found that that was way too light, which is interesting considering that I am quite pale. there are three different formulas: Purrfect Puss, for "light/medium layerable coverage", Pampered Puss, for "medium/heavy layerable coverage", and Flawless Feline, for "heavy coverage". the Pampered Puss used to be my formula of choice, but after trying Flawless Feline, I have decided that I much prefer that instead. (I've never tried Purrfect Puss.) I need a lot of coverage, and while the Pampered Puss formula can provide this, I need to put on a ridiculous amount! that makes my face look a bit too powdery. I still have some of my Pampered Puss foundation, and save it for when I want a very minimal makeup look, which is not often. therefore, I'm rating it with 3 lippies.
