Eyeliner -New York Color - Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil Smoky Plum 934A

The color was a little bit darker than I expected, but I guess I didn't pay attention to the "smokey" part of the name. The purple is still noticeable though and my boyfriend noticed immediately on my eyes that I was wearing some kind of extra special eyeliner, not just black. It's very creamy, but it's not amazingly pigmented. It really is waterproof though, so that's pretty good! Like other people mentioned though, it doesn't show up on the waterline. It's just nice for something a little special and to be able to feel sure that my eyeliner won't be smudging everywhere. I'll probably try other colors of it and keep this one in mind as a good everyday liner that makes my green eyes pop a little more than plain black.

Eyeliner -New York Color - Eyeliner Duet- Islands In The Stream
ely617 7/25/2011 12:53:00 AM
I really like this just because I think the pigmentation is great on both sides and I love the colored side because it's a really gorgeous teal so it works great with both blue and green looks. Both sides are very creamy, and I love having them together because I can just take it with me and have the option to use them together in a look or just use one. I haven't had a problem with them smudging on my lower lashline, so I think it's great for that, especially for the price! Just know that they don't really set, so if you have a problem with eyeliner smudging or fading, putting a powder on top would be best. I don't though, and think it's a beautiful duo. I got it just for the colored side alone, so the black is a great bonus! The only way it could be better is if it did actually set. I like being able to smudge colored eyeliner, but it never hurts for it to dry and stay put for sure.

Mascara -Rimmel - The Max Bold Curves
ely617 7/25/2011 12:47:00 AM
I like that the tube is rounded and small, but I don't like the formula. It was too wet for me at first, and it was a huuuuge pain because my eyelashes are long, so they would hit above my eye and leave black marks. It would also clump way too quickly. Now that it's drier, it's better. It definitely doesn't deliver very much volume. I would say it mostly just defines my lashes, darkens them, and lengthens them a little bit. I thought I would like the curved brush, and I do think it does a decent job with "lift" because it can actually follow the curve of lashes from the base, but I don't like that the tip is tapered because it means it's best if I flip my wrist when doing my left eye so the tapered end is in the inner corner again. It's just doesn't do anything amazing and certainly isn't dramatic, so I would rather spend my money on other drugstore mascaras. It's not the worst mascara ever for sure, but after trying some other drugstore kinds, this is just disappointing. It also smudges a lot on me by the end of the day, on my upper and lower eyelids, so that's not great, but I do have oil skin.

Misc Beauty Tools -E.L.F. - Mechanical Eyelash Curler
ely617 7/25/2011 12:36:00 AM
This is a great curler! It fits on my eye perfectly because it's just rounded enough. I love that it has a spring and it's very easy to control. The rounded rubber base in the curler keeps your lashes from getting crimped or bent. It just adds a great curl and really makes your lashes stand out. It's definitely worth more that $1! My mom has very short lashes that stick out downward, but as soon as she used this she was amazed and wanted mine! So we bought another for her. It's just great for a subtle curl like I need, as well as heavy duty work like her lashes need! I also love that it comes with a replacement rubber strip.

Makeup Brushes -E.L.F. - Studio Powder Brush
ely617 7/25/2011 12:32:00 AM
This brush really is great for blending out liquid foundation. It's very dense and soft, and it just blends it so easily and gives it a more natural, even finish. I love it! I use only a light dusting of powder, so I don't use this brush for that because it's so dense, but I can see that it would be great for mineral foundation. It's also just great to have in case you need to buff out blush or bronzer if you overdo them.

Foundations -E.L.F. - All Over Cover Stick in Fair
ely617 7/25/2011 12:28:00 AM
I've only been able to use this to conceal a bruise on my leg. I can't use it on my face because I think it's too thick, and it's also a very odd orangey color. I think it's a very unnatural color and can't imagine it matching anyone's skin, but I guess if you blend it enough and apply a poweder foundation on top, the color can be managed. It's just like trying to blend an oil pastel crayon on my face, so I can't use it anywhere on my face without it looking cakey. It's not horrible as an eyeshadow base, but I think it's even to thick for that, and it doesn't have a sticky enough consistency, so I would rather use a cream eyeshadow over it any day.

Eyes -E.L.F. - Under Eye Concealer & Highlighter
ely617 7/25/2011 12:24:00 AM
The concealer gives very little coverage and doesn't last long. Unless you have barely noticeable dark circles, I don't think this would work well. There are drugstore concealers for just a few dollars more that have much better pigmentation and consistency. The highlight side isn't worth it either because it's really just little bits of shimmer that don't brighten up the skin or really highlight. Just random specks of glitter, basically. It's better than not using any concealer, so I still use it on days where I'm going very natural anyway, just to use it up. Also, it has a very shiny, sticky finish, so setting it with powder is definitely a must.

Makeup Brushes -E.L.F. - Studio Complexion Brush
ely617 7/25/2011 12:21:00 AM
This brush is very soft and quite dense, but it is only wide one way, so I don't think it's a good brush for just a light dusting of powder all over the face. I think it's good for sweeping on powder foundations for a more controlled application of product when you use the sides of the brush rather than the tip. Same thing for blushes and bronzers. Just don't think that it will be the ideal brush for dusting on a transparent finishing powder because it's not large or fluffy enough for that. I love it for powder foundation though because it applies just enough to give coverage but not so much that it gets cakey. Also, great appearance, and it's nice that it comes with a little cover.

Eye Shadow -E.L.F. - Brightening Eye Color-Nouveau Neutrals
ely617 7/25/2011 12:18:00 AM
I don't like that the e.l.f. quads are shaped in triangles because I feel like it's hard to get to the corners and get the product. This particular quad doesn't have very good pigmentation. The colors are mostly just sheer with bits of chunky shimmer. Using a cream eyeshadow underneath helps the colors show up more, though, but the colors still don't last for more than a few hours. They'll still stick on all day with the cream shadow, but they become much more dull. It's not bad for a simple everyday, neutral eye, and for only $1, it's good. It's just definitely only for beginners and for a more easy-going style. I personally hate the white though because it's pretty much just shimmer with no white payoff, and the green is quite dull and muddy, so I don't like it.
