Styling Products -Sunsilk - Waves of Envy Sea Mist [DISCONTINUED]

I have very fine (but lots of it) slightly wavy hair and this stuff works great on it! I've tried other gels/mousse/sprays and everything else just seems to weigh my hair down too much or leaves it crunchy. This spray is nice and light, and my hair doesn't look like I put anything in it at all! It stays soft and shiny, no crunch. I just spray some on while my hair is wet and let it air dry - lovely waves! And there's no weird, lingering smell on my hair. This is super cheap, and does the job. I will definitely be buying this again!

Just tried "Rosy Giggles," which is turning out to be more of a hot pink (Barbie-ish), than the rosy pink it appeared in the bottle. Oh well. The application was easy, although the first coat seemed streaky, the top layer fixed any issues. I'll update on staying power later.

Shampoo -John Frieda - Sheer Blonde Highlighting Shampoo
rated 5 of 5

I use this a lot! I have shoulder-length, fine hair with light blond hi-lights (I'm naturally a dark blonde). Every once in a while, I'll stray from this shampoo for a while, only to return once the minerals in tap water build up on my hair, turning it dull and gray/dark. This shampoo cleans it right up, and my hair looks shiny and fresh again! It was a godsend after going on vacation to the beach last spring (without my favorite shampoo) - my hair was exposed to a lot of sunlight, ocean water, and hotel tapwater, leaving it almost orange/yellow by the end of the week!! I used Sheer Blonde when I got home, and my hair went back to normal :) It's not super-moisturizing, but my hair can be pretty oily, so I'm fine with that. And I use a good conditioner to make up for it. Overall, I would recommend this for any blondes.

Lips -SoftLips - Rose
rated 2 of 5
diana6 3/20/2008 11:52:00 PM

My lips were so chapped and dry, and I didn't have any lip balm at hand, so I grabbed the first chapstick I saw near a cash register. I ended up getting this as part of a two-pack with the Sugar Cookie scented one (which I actually like better). The scent is pretty good - almost fruity or like candy, but very mild. It also has that (usual SoftLips) nice tingling effect. I just don't like the rose tint color. I was expecting a sheer, berry or pink stain, but instead this is very much a mauve color. The worst part, though, is that it's FROSTED. My lips looked like something right out of the 80s when I put it on. Ew! I'm never going to wear this again. The moisturizing wasn't great either, although it's better than nothing. Probably my other biggest issue with SoftLips is the diameter of the tube. It's nice that it's small to fit into your purse or pocket, but I have very full lips, so it takes me many swipes to apply this chapstick. My favorite lip balm ever (Mode de Vie Karite Lips) comes in a nice fat tube!

Blush -Jane - Blushing Baby Doll
rated 5 of 5

This is my second purchase of a Jane blush and I like it a lot! (I also have Blushing Petal - my favorite) The color looks very natural on my fair/medium skin and I like that it doesn't contain any shimmer or glitter to make my face shiny. It also seems to last just a little bit longer than other blushes I've used and hasn't caused any break-outs whatsoever. For such a low price, it is definitely worth it. I also prefer the round container over any of those annoying rectangular pans of blush usually found at the drugstore!

I like it a lot! The peachy/pink color looks very natural on my fair/medium skin and someone even commented that I looked very tan and healthy :) I like that it doesn't contain any shimmer or glitter to make my face shiny and seems to last just a little bit longer than other blushes I've used. It also hasn't caused any break-outs whatsoever. For such a low price, it is definitely worth it. I also prefer the round container over any of those annoying rectangular pans of blush usually found at the drugstore! *I liked it so much that I went out and bought another shade as well: Blushing Baby Doll.

Makeup Brushes -Essence of Beauty - Classic Powder Brush
rated 2 of 5
diana6 3/17/2008 12:06:00 AM

Don't bother with this line - the Sonia Kashuk brush collection is much better! (and cheaper) The only brush I can really compare this to is my Sonia Kashuk powder brush, and while they felt equally soft when brand new, the Essence of Beauty one is now not even close to feeling as soft. This brush also SHEDS a lot more and powder collects at the base of the bristles, making it really hard to wash. And after a few months of use, the top brush part fell off the wooden handle completely.

It's decent - no complaints. Soft and fluffy enough to apply eyeshadow evenly. I love Sonia Kashuk make-up brushes... they are good quality for a low price!

Love it! I have the powder brush with the short, chunky, blue metallic handle (also $11 like the black/white long-handled one). I like the short handle because it fits in a small make-up bag or purse and it's easier to use. The metal handle makes it slightly heavier, so it feels like "high quality." The brush is very soft and picks up powder really well, distributing it evenly on my face. There has also been minimal shedding so far, compared to any other make-up brush I have owned. I also have a Sonia Kashuk eyeshadow brush and based on these two purchases I would definitely buy more from this line - they are good quality for a low price!

Conditioner -L'Oreal - Vive Pro Glossy Volume, Fine Hair
rated 2 of 5
diana6 3/11/2008 9:08:00 PM

I looove the L'Oreal Nutri Gloss conditioner, so I figured I'd try this since I have really fine hair that could use a boost of volume. I expected this to be similar to the Nutri Gloss, but with added volume. My main point: this conditioner made me break-out all along my hairline!! It was really all of a sudden, as soon as I switched conditioners. I think it's the palm oil (see ingredients list below), but I'm not positive. That was the main difference in ingredients between this and the Nutri Gloss. It definitely made my hair "glossy" and healthy-looking, but didn't add much volume. I think it was still too heavy and weighed it down (despite what they claimed!). The biggest difference in my hair was the smell. This conditioner has a lot more perfume added and the smell lingers all day. Overall not bad, but sometimes that can be annoying. But because of the break-outs, I switched right back to my favorite Vive Pro Nutri Gloss Shampoo for medium to long hair that is damaged. My skin is back to normal. Ingredients: Water - Aqua , Cetyl Alcohol , PEG-180 , Myristyl Alcohol , Stearamidopropyl Dimethylamine , Isopropyl Dimethylamine , Isopropyl Myristate , Fragrance - Parfum , Cetrimonium Chloride , Hydroxypropyl Starch , Phosphate , Methylparaben , Cetyl Esters , Hydroxyethylcellulose , Lauryl PEG/PPG-18/18 Methicone , Palm Oil - Elaeis Guineensis , Citric Acid , Hexyl Cinnamal , Chlorhexidine Dihydrochloride , Benzyl Salicylate , BHT , Poloxamer 407 , Dodecene , Butylphenyl Methylpropional , Linalool , Hydroxycitronellal

Lotions/ Creams -Burt's Bees - Beeswax & Banana Hand Creme
rated 2 of 5
diana6 2/25/2008 9:18:00 PM

I like the smell... and that's about it. Just like all the other Burt's Bees products, this is very waxy/greasy and doesn't really sink into skin that well. I like to be able to apply hand lotion and then go ahead and do something, but how can I when my hands are too greasy to touch anything?! I wouldn't buy this again.

Lotions/ Creams -Burt's Bees - Hand Salve
rated 2 of 5
diana6 2/25/2008 9:15:00 PM

This did nothing for me. I applied it a few nights before bed, since my hands get soo dry (I work in a lab and wash my hands about 20x a day!), but the hand salve never really sank in and got absorbed. It's waxy/greasy, like most other Burt's Bees products, so it just sits on your skin. Plus I'm not a big fan of the menthol-y scent. Don't waste your money. I'm going right back to my favorite: Neutrogena Norwegian Formula!

Lotions/ Creams -Burt's Bees - Almond Milk Beeswax Hand Creme
rated 3 of 5
diana6 2/25/2008 9:11:00 PM

I loooove the smell - it's like marzipan or almond extract. If you don't like those smells, you won't like this. It also moisturizes decently well, but it's kind of thick and greasy/waxy, so you can't touch anything after you apply it. I still prefer my Neutrogena Norwegian Formula hand cream over anything else! I probably wouldn't buy it again, since it's nothing special, but I have no problems with it either.

Lip Treatments -Burt's Bees - Honey Lip Balm
rated 1 of 5
diana6 2/25/2008 9:09:00 PM

I kind of like honey. At least, I don't mind the smell too much - I put it in my tea all the time. But this lip balm smells so gross! I tried putting it on ONCE and that was enough. The smell was so disgusting I had to wash it off. I can't testify to its moisturizing properties because I had it on for like 2 seconds, but I like Burt's Bee's other lip balms so it must be the same.

Treatments -Burt's Bees - Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream
rated 2 of 5
diana6 2/25/2008 9:06:00 PM

Well, I might be the only one who doesn't really like this, but honestly... Cons: - hard to use; it comes in a tin, so you're supposed to scoop it out with your fingers and spread it around? it's not very soft, but rather waxy, so scooping it doesn't work too well - greasy and doesn't dry, so you can't touch anything after you apply it - my cuticles are still dry after a week of using it Pros: - I like the lemon-y smell!
