Makeup Brushes -Stila - #17 Retractable Bronzing Brush

I don't use this so much for bronzer but more as a portable powder brush. My MU bag is a bit cluttered and I like that I can close the lid and keep it clean. I use this for Benefit Bluff Dust, for Jurlique Silk Dust - whatever powder I'm wearing. Sometimes for blush or bronzer but not so often. Soft, doesn't shed.

Makeup Brushes -Stila - #5 All Over Eye Shadow Brush

I absolutely love this. Packs on the colour all over the lid really easily, soft, has not shed a single hair, stood up to repeated washings and rough treatment. I have the short-handled one.

Eye Shadow -Paula's Choice - Soft Matte Eyeshadow [DISCONTINUED]

Pros: Unscented, long-wearing, nice wearable shades. Cons: Not pigmented enough, expensive in Australia for the quality, no nice zingy colours. Would not repurchase.

Loose Powders -BeneFit Cosmetics - Bluff Dust

I tried this because my foundation is too pink on me - I often have that problem with foundations. I have fair skin with yellow undertones and I wanted to wear something over the top of my foundation to balance everything out. This does the job perfectly! I love it!!! The brush I like applying it with is the #17 Stila Retractable Bronzing Brush. I really appreciate that it's unscented. It's finely milled, not cakey, doesn't make my dry skin look drier, and has a good amount of pigment - not so much that you look yellow, but enough to do the job.

Treatments (Eye) -Clinique - Repairwear- Intensive Eye Cream
bobsy 10/16/2007 3:49:00 AM
Pros: Fragrance free, non-irritating. It may be suitable for skin-types that aren't prone to dryness. Cons: It pills terribly and leaves white flakey bits of product under my eyes. It did not visibly benefit my skin in any way. It's not that hydrating or rich for a product that has the word 'intensive' in the title. I would not repurchase.

Moisturizers -Cetaphil - Moisturizing Lotion

I don't mind it on my body, find it a bit sticky on my face, but it's my boy's HG moisturiser for face and body. He has rosacea and eczema and swears by this stuff. Pros: Unscented, v moisturising, well priced. Cons: It tends to stay quite sticky.

Skincare - Body -Avalon Organics Botanicals - Moisturing Creme Shave in Aloe Unscented
bobsy 10/13/2007 4:08:00 AM
I'm really happy with this. I've had a lot of trouble in the past with getting rashes from shaving products - I have v sensitive skin. It's unscented, has a lovely smooth consistency to shave with, and actually leaves my skin feeling slightly moisturised rather than stripped of all hydration like it used to after shaving. It's also a reasonable price, which is a bonus. I used to use the PC shave gel, but there's no way I'd repurchase the PC now I've found this.

Moisturizers -Cetaphil - Moisturizing Cream

Currently using Renova and wanting a very bland moisturiser to hydrate without irritating. I remembered I used to use this yonks ago, before switching to Paula's Choice Extra Emollient, which I loved. Then she discontinued it and her other products either broke me out or made my face sting. I tried a few other unscented basic moisturisers in the interim but I've come back to this for now. I'm surprised how much I like it for its purposes. No bells or whistles, just a good basic unscented moisturiser for my very dry retinoidy skin.

Mascara -ModelCo - Lash Extend Mascara in Bazaar Black
bobsy 8/8/2007 1:44:00 AM
*UPDATE: This has been reformulated. I haven't tried new version yet but word on the street is the original product was far better.*
I've never had a HG mascara before. Now I do! I was looking for a waterproof equivalent to Clinique's Naturally Glossy Mascara, and some lovely ladies recommended this. It applies differently to the NGM, the finish has less volume and more length - but it has that same glossy look. I have extremely sensitive eyes and this doesn't irritate them at all - I've never found a mascara I could wear every day - but this one is fab. You don't need eye makeup remover to get it off either. I think this is what Mirenesse were trying to achieve with their mascara, but didn't. I curl first with the Shu curler, then apply, and I find it holds the curl well. Others have described it very well so I don't really need to, but I will just say, for the other fragrance free people out there, this has none.

Cleansers -Unlisted Brand - Ego QV Face Gentle Cleanser

I didn't really expect this to work for my extremely dry, sensitive skin (I've been steering clear of SLS and SLES as an experiment and this contains the latter) so I didn't try the sample I had for yonks. I was going to use it as a handwash, but tried it on my face one night in the shower, just to see what happened. Turns out it's great. It actually dries my skin out less than the castile-based allegedly detergent-free cleanser I was previously using. It has a mildly foaming and milky sort of texture. It doesn't feel like it would remove makeup, but it easily removes it all without stripping my skin. It leaves a slight emollient feel which not everyone would like, but it's working for me. Fragrance free, extremely economical - I think it's a winner.
Ingredients: Water, Soft White Paraffin, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Safflower Oil, Glycerol, Lauryl Betaine, Xanthan Gum, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Tocopherol, Hydroxybenzoates (Methyl and Propyl Paraben), Sodium Polyacetate, Citric Acid.

Mascara -E.L.F. - Wet Gloss Lash and Brow Clear Mascara
bobsy 5/31/2007 8:32:00 AM
I was on the hunt for a replacement clear mascara to use on my brows after my previous fave was discontinued. I can't live without a good brow gel. Found this after quite a few other attempts with other brands. (I use either end of this one on my brows.) This one's a surprising winner for me, ahead of Bloom, Clarins Mascara Fix, The Body Shop, and several others I no longer recall. It holds brows in place with just the right amount of oomph - i.e. not so much that you look like you've got super glue affixing them to your forehead. It doesn't flake, isn't too obvious and glossy, it's fragrance free - and it's cheap as chips - I think it was $AUD2.95. It might not be for everyone but it works for me.

Powder -Everyday Minerals - Foundation Matte Formula
bobsy 3/14/2007 6:47:00 PM
I have the same comments for all the EM foundations. I wanted to love them. I tried to love them. I tried everything to make them work for me. They just didn't. I love the idea of mineral makeup so I was very enthusiastic, but these products weren't for me. Pros: fragrance free, wide shade selection, samples available, they seem like a nice company, good prices. Cons: I have very dry skin. This stuff accentuates every single dry bit or tiny line that I never knew I had and dries my skin out further during the course of the day. It has insufficient coverage and no lasting power. I can never understand why people rave about how long this lasts - it disappears in no time on me.
