Eye Shadow -Unlisted Brand - CQ eye shadow-Jade [118]

See ya, Sprout! This eyeshadow ($2 for 1.9g at Wal-Mart) is a beautiful golden green, which I found to be more user-friendly than MAC Sprout's hard texture. It's smooth (a little less so than Revlon), well-pigmented, and blends well. Though I'm not fond of the square packaging, I just popped out the insert of a MAC 4-pan and put 4 CQ shadows in it just fine.

Eye Shadow -Unlisted Brand - CQ eye shadow duo-Hazelnut [208]
blkwdow666 7/6/2004 9:01:00 PM
Back to Basics. This eyeshadow duo ($3 for 3.7g at Wal-Mart) consists of a shimmery beige that's similar to but less pink (and frosted) than Kitten and a matte chocolate brown, both of which are neutral. The shadows are smooth (a little less so than Revlon), well-pigmented, and blend well. Though I'm not fond of the square packaging, I just popped out the insert of a MAC 4-pan and put 4 CQ shadows in it just fine.

Eye Shadow -Unlisted Brand - CQ eye shadow- Dark Taupe [112]
blkwdow666 7/6/2004 8:48:00 PM
Bronze 'n proud. In spite of its name, Dark Taupe ($2 for 1.9g at Wal-Mart) is a medium-deep golden bronze. This was the first colour I tried in the line, and I wasn't disappointed. It's smooth (a little less so than Revlon), well-pigmented, and blends well. Though I'm not fond of the square packaging, I just popped out the insert of a MAC 4-pan and put 4 CQ shadows in it just fine.

Splendor in the buff. This eyeshadow ($2 for 1.9g at Wal-Mart) is a slightly deeper twin of Stila Wheat, at a fraction of the price. On me (GGG), it's a neutral nude that's the same depth as my skin, leaving a soft shimmer and a "natural but not naked" look. I can (and have) sweep on with a finger and run out the door. It's smooth (a little less so than Revlon), well-pigmented, and blends well. The only gripe I have, and a minor one, is that it's square, as opposed to round. However, by popping out the insert of a MAC 4-pan, 4 of these can easily fit.

Lipstick -Milani - Chocolate Raspberry
blkwdow666 6/16/2004 7:48:00 PM
Yummy. Chocolate Raspberry ($3) is a deep brown-toned berry with silver shimmer. It's the "cool" sister of Double Espresso (reviewed elsewhere), and, in fact, is next to it in the Milani display. Like the other Milani lipsticks I've tried (and most of the line in general), it's richly pigmented, which works for this GGG. Even so, Chocolate Raspberry can be worn over a balm and blotted (sheer), or straight from the tube for full-on colour day or night.

Eye Shadow -Avon - Roller Ball Eyeshadow - Apricotta
blkwdow666 5/23/2004 7:50:00 PM
Zzzzzzz....
While Avon's version of portable, roll-on eyeshadows ($4-6 for 1.9g) are easier to apply than the Maybelline version, I'm not wowed by this one. On me (GGG) Apricotta is a matte, muted, pink-leaning coral that looks "dusty".
I immediately returned this one.

Eyeliner -Stila - Smudge Pots Gel Eye Liner in Emerald
blkwdow666 5/11/2004 9:25:00 PM
Peering with my binoculars over Lake Michigan....nope, no Emerald here!
I've never tried Bobbi Brown's gel eye liner, nor Stila's smudge pots in other colours, so I can't compare the formulas. I had to "work" into my brush, though, which is perhaps due to its less-creamy-than-its sisters' texture, as the reviewers cite below. It did last all day, but then again, so do my Prestige Waterproof pencil liners at 1/3 the price and no brush to clean. My main gripe, though, is that it's not "Emerald"--it's a soft black. Yes, when put next to a black liner, there's a slight difference, but not enough to justify keeping it.
Stila, you've betrayed me again!

Eye Shadow -Revlon - Wet/Dry Shadow Quad - Tickled Pink
blkwdow666 4/12/2004 8:43:00 PM
Four Highlighters In Search Of An Anchor.
This quad (~$6.50 for 6.2g) has the dubious distinction of being the longest I've waited to pick up a limited-edition Revlon quad, with good reason. It consists of four shimmery colours: peach, cool-toned light pink, neutral-toned light pink (a hair darker than the former), and sandy beige. While I find nothing wrong with the quality of the shadows, which is as good as ever, as a GGG, these did nothing for me. Judging from the reviews below, I'm not alone. Unless you're in the market for these colours (and as highlighters, they're a great deal), I'd head on over to the Revlon aisle and get "In the Garden" instead.

Lip Gloss -Revlon - Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Raisin Glaze [DISCONTINUED]
blkwdow666 2/4/2004 10:46:00 PM
Pfft. Raisin Glaze ($7 for 5.9ml) appears to be a bronzed red with golden shimmer in the tube, but on me, it's a medium rose colour--not what I was after. Granted, lipcolours tend to change colour on me, but even a neutral lip liner didn't improve it enough to justify keeping.

Lipstick -Revlon - Moisturous - Raisin Showers
blkwdow666 1/17/2004 12:08:00 AM
Stellar colour. Raisin Showers (~$7.50) is a deep brown-based plum with copper(!) shimmer. On me (GGG w/pigmented lips), it's deep enough to not wash me out, brown enough to not change colour, and the light texture and moist look add a lushness that can work for day or night.

Fragrances -Avon - Naturals Almond Body Spray
blkwdow666 1/8/2004 9:42:00 AM
"Visions of marzipan danced in her head.....".
This body spray ($8 for 8.4oz, but watch for sales!) has a great "toasted almond" scent--nutty and slightly sweet. It's tough to find an almond scent as a single note, and this is a good choice, especially for the price. If you're so inclined, this also blends well with other scents (vanilla, hazlenut, etc.), too. The only reason I gave this 4 lipsticks instead of 5 is because it's not very long-lasting, but the price compensates for that.

Lipstick -Revlon - Moisturous - Double Truffle
blkwdow666 1/6/2004 8:31:00 PM
Great colour-in the tube. As its name suggests, Double Truffle ($7.50) is a dark plummy brown. However, on me, it turns to a violet (yes, blue-toned) colour that is not what I expected; I'm chalking it up to body chemistry. It would look fine w/a liner, but since Revlon has so many great colours in the Moisturous line that don't need to be corrected for, this one went back.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Paints - Chartru
blkwdow666 1/6/2004 7:26:00 PM
A Midori Maven Maybe. Chartru paint is a bold chartreuse (yellow-green) that is a great base/adjunct for any of the MAC greens (Greensmoke, Humid, Sprout, etc.). However, after finding Ben Nye's Chartreuse Lumiere (see my review), I don't use Chartru as much because of the problematic packaging. Still, it's a great colour that's tough to find in other lines.

Eye Shadow -Revlon - Double Truffle
blkwdow666 1/6/2004 7:12:00 PM
Like the Holiday '03 Shimmy shadows, the Chocolush colour story shadows ($5 for 1.7g)have a shimmery overspray as well. Take a look at the matte swirls to know the colour you're getting.
That said, the shadows themselves are good: good pigment, smooth texture, and the overspray adds a bit of shimmer as well. I also find that all the colours in this colour story work well together; to that end, I've transplanted them into a MAC palette (4-pan w/insert removed).
Double Truffle is a dark chocolate brown with a pink-bronze overspray. I've been wearing DTruffle on the lid and as a liner. If you can buy this on sale w/a coupon, it's a good deal on a basic colour.
