Palettes -LORAC - Miss Davenporte Showstopper
ativan 3/28/2009 11:16:00 PM
I said I'd buy this again, but I'm kind of on the fence. I really love the blush in this palette. I do mostly cream blushes, and this is one of the only powder blushes that both shows up on me and looks great. My biggest complaint is that the eyeshadows in the palette are too shimmery for my taste. I love the eyeliner shade (a smokey dark grey) and Serenity e/s, which I bought as a single shade years ago. The highlighter color in particular is too shimmery for me. Wish I could combine the highlighter from the Snake Charmer palette with the blush in this one. I think I'll be using the eyeshadows in this palette exclusively for nighttime looks.

Palettes -LORAC - Snake Charmer Face Palette
ativan 3/28/2009 11:10:00 PM

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this palette yet. I never hit pan on anything and I've used up almost all of the highlighter color in this palette. I love all of the eyeshadow shades. They combine to give me a polished yet natural look and compliment my pale, warm skintone. I gave it five lippies even though the blush doesn't quite work on me. It's a lovely color, but a little too bright peachy on me. If I could have the eyeshadows from this palette and the blush from the Miss Davenport palette, I'd be in heaven!

Eye Shadow -Christian Dior - 5 Colour Eyeshadow - Earth Reflection 609
ativan 2/25/2009 11:11:00 AM
This is my first CD quint and I love it. I tend to use neutral/warm colors and prefer a natural look, and this is perfect. I don't usually bother with crease colors, but when I'm using this palette I do. My eyes always look fabulous with this combination of colors--it feels foolproof. The only shade I rarely use is the pink one--it's pretty but just not a must for me. As I'm getting older, I don't like too much shimmer, and the shimmer of these shadows feels just right.

Eye Shadow -Shiseido - Proenza Schouler Blue H14
ativan 2/25/2009 11:05:00 AM
I usually use only neutral, natural-looking makeup, so this product is new territory for me. I thought the color looked fabulous and wanted to try it out. So far, I have only used it as a liner. At my bravest, I can only use this as a thick, or smudged-out liner, as opposed to as a lid or crease color. I don't think this color would look great on me as anything other than a liner, but for this alone I recommend it highly!

Moisturizers -Kate Somerville - Nourish Daily Moisture
ativan 2/25/2009 11:01:00 AM
I gave this five lippies even though I have two complaints about this product: lack of SPF and the cost. Still, I find it an excellent daily moisturizer for my skin, and I will re-purchase. My skin is dry in the winter, and this keeps me moisturized all day, without causing greasiness. It is a nice base for my foundation (GA face fabric or BB skin) I also love the dispenser! I don't know if its anti-aging properties are super-effective, but my aging skin seems to be plumped up nicely by this.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Cocomotion Pigment (Rushmetal)
ativan 2/18/2009 12:57:00 PM
I was very disappointed in this pigment. My complaints are these: 1) there was too much fallout, despite wearing a good base and using a good brush; 2) it was too glittery (and the fallout left glittery chunks all over my face, and 3) it seemed to fade from my lid within two hours of application. So, while I like the color, and had thought it would be nice for evening wear, I will probably return this.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Electro Flash - Fresh Green Mix
ativan 7/24/2008 10:59:00 AM
I just bought this last night and I'm already inspired to review it. Thank you MUAers, for all of your helpful reviews on this product! I am normally very boring when it comes to eyeshadow--always go for the warm-toned, neutral colors. I am fearful of color and tend to prefer looking as though I don't wear much makeup (although I really do!) So, while I love my LORAC Snake Charmer Palette, my Dior Earth Reflection quint, and all of the other iterations of the natural palette, I am excited to have a new shade that is a little different (but not too radical for me). Fresh Green Mix is a wonderful golden-green shade that is shimmery but not glittery. I love green colors, but they often don't look good on me for some reason. Perhaps the yellow-gold in this makes it more flattering. The SA told me that the darker side of the duo makes a great wet eyeliner, and she's right! The combination of the two sides can be subtle for day or more intense for night. This is the first cosmetic purchase in a while that I've felt truly excited about.

Fragrances -Frederic Malle - Musc Ravageur
ativan 7/22/2008 12:45:00 PM
I'm giving this a 4, although I'm leaning toward a 3. I'm trying to give it the benefit of the doubt, because it's a very complex and heady fragrance. I think the SA who spritzed me at Barneys may have overdone it a bit, so it's hard to tell whether this fragrance is just too overpowering for me or if she put too much on. At any rate, the scent blows me away--a little too much. I found myself getting a headache about a half hour after putting it on. On the plus side, it definitely had staying power. I can see why others like this, and I might go back and try it again, only less liberally next time. The headache thing will keep this out of serious consideration for me, though. I prefer Carnal Flower to this--it's still sexy, but less knock-you-over-the head.

Fragrances -Frederic Malle - Iris Poudre
ativan 7/22/2008 12:38:00 PM
I received a sample of this from FM, along with Carnal Flower and En Passant. Although it's very different from Carnal Flower, I love it just as much. I was worried it would smell too "flowery" or overwhelming for me, but it really doesn't. It also seems to last. I'm torn about whether I'll buy Carnal Flower or Iris Poudre when my samples run out. (can't afford both). I agree with a previous reviewer who said this made her feel elegant--I totally agree!

Fragrances -Frederic Malle - Carnal Flower
ativan 7/22/2008 12:34:00 PM
I received this from FM as a sample, along with Iris Poudre and En Passant. I love it! I should say that I know nothing about the art or science of fragrance, I just know I love how this smells! I found myself sniffing my wrist throughout the day, just to get another "hit" of it. It seemed to have good lasting power, too. I don't know if I feel brave enough to shell out the big bucks for this, but I have a feeling I'm going to be very tempted with the sample runs out!

Mascara -Maybelline - Full 'N Soft Mascara
ativan 6/24/2008 11:36:00 AM
I really like the way this mascara goes on. It does make my lashes look full and soft! I was disappointed to discover, however, that there is often some slight smudging under my lower lash line at different points in the day. It's not dramatic smudging, but it's annoying, especially since I only apply mascara to my upper lashes. My lashes look great as long as I make sure to check for smudging throughout the day. Won't be buying this again--still in search of a HG! Edit: I can't believe I didn't edit this review earlier. I have bought this mascara many times and it is my HG. Since my first tube I have not had any problems with smudging. I am now adding a fifth lippie to my rating.

Lip Gloss -Bobbi Brown - Lip Tint in Cherry
ativan 6/24/2008 11:32:00 AM
I love this gloss despite the fact that there are a couple of things I don't like about it. First the good: Love the color and it's buildability. I've been looking for a good red gloss to wear that doesn't scream red. I can wear one layer of this and just add a rosy glow to my lips, or layer it on more heavily and have nice glammed-up cherry red lips for a night on the town. The texture is great and it wears well . I also love the spf. I'd certainly buy it again, despite the fact that I don't like the scent very much (smells/tastes a bit medicinal to me) and I also don't love the applicator. I usually end up using my finger to spread it on evenly, which kind of defeats the purpose of an applicator. But, as others have mentioned, I love the fact that it's a lot of product and will last a long time!

Lips -MAC - Slimshine in Swelter
ativan 6/20/2008 3:13:00 PM
I purchased this because I was hoping it would be the summery red color of the Cool Heat collection. On my hand, it looked that way, but on my lips it was way too pink-orange, and it wasn't flattering to my pale/warm complexion. Love the slimshine formula--I just wish they would come out with a sheer red color that wasn't fuscia or orange!

Tinted Moisturizer -Sonia Kashuk - Radiant Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15
ativan 6/20/2008 3:09:00 PM
I love this TM, I find it light yet moisturizing, with a good amount of coverage for me. On days when my skin is acting up (redness, blotchiness), this does not provide enough coverage, but I think that's true of all the TMs I've tried (and I've tried many). This and Bobbie Brown's are my favorite TMs, and this is a much cheaper option. I am fair (Extra LIght in BB and Nude in LM), and I use the lightest shade of this. In the summer, this is a bit too light, so I mix it with a drop of Dr. Hauschka's bronzing concentrate. Instant radiance! With my previous bottle, I had the problem of the pump getting gunked up and having the product splatter when it came out of the pump, but I'm now on my second bottle and I haven't had that problem. Maybe they improved the packaging???

Lipstick -MAC - Slimshine in Most Wanted
ativan 6/20/2008 10:58:00 AM
I love this lipstick. Love the texture, which is glossy and moisturizing. Love the color, which is hard for me to describe. In the tube, it looks like it should be brownish with glitter, but it comes out more reddish on me. I don't know if it is a more subtle version of "O", as others have suggested, but it definitely works on me whereas "O" was too dark for my complexion. I've been using this almost exclusively since I bought it, and I have MANY lippies! The only thing I've noticed recently that may be me being neurotic is that I'm wondering if the darker color of this lippie makes the skin around my mouth look older. For some reason, when it's on, the fine lines around my mouth seem accentuated. Not enough to stop me wearing it, but something to pay attention to.....
