Fragrances -Demeter - pure soap
Soie 4/8/2008 9:44:00 PM
Freshly sprayed this smells like a really rosy, musky version of J.Lo Glow. After a few minutes on the skin a cherry almond notes take center stage along with the bright aldehydic aroma of shampoo. Not even a hint of Ivory to be found here (Ivory bar soap has a dry almost bitter soapy aroma with a hint of lemongrass, a very refreshing scent on hot/humid days). Strangely enough this dries down to more of a marine/oceanic scent (Jil Sander Pure comes to mind) than anything else. Not bad, but not what I was hoping for.

Hair Color -Clairol - Jazzing
Soie 3/8/2008 11:12:00 PM
I only use this in "Clear"and rather than using a plastic cap and heat, I just allow it to air dry on my hair and then rinse it out with tepid water. No follow up shampoo or conditioner (no preconditioning either, it'll probably stop the product from "clinging" to the hair shaft). After rinsing, I notice my hair is a bit tacky and shrunken (my hair is 3a/3b curly), similar to when I've used an acidifying conditioner (Roux...which is also good for shine). I'm thinking Jazzing must be quite acidic its own right plus it leaves my hair MUCH shinier than the aoremntioned conditioner. As a curlyhead I don't/can't just "wash and go"; I have to use moisturizing post-wash styling products. Using Jazzing, I've been able to skip conditioners & leave-in conditioners without any problems. Now I can get away with just using a moisturizing hair lotion and a bit of aloe vera gel (to eliminate frizzies and flyaways), and my hair looks glossier and sleeker and healthier than before. Protein is one of the ingredients, so I won't be using this too frequently, as protein tends to build up on my hair leaving it dry and poufy. I used to use Sebastian Colorshine (in the same way: air dry, then rinse) and it worked just as well but only comes in one size and costs $22.

Fragrances -Michael Kors - Island Fiji
Soie 3/8/2008 9:05:00 PM
I didn't care for the original MK Island (it's too humid & woody in the drydown phase) but Island Fiji is right up my alley. To my nose the scent is reminiscent of a freshening breeze, calm waters, soft tropical florals, and juicy, sun-warmed fruit. It is a relaxing lazy-day scent rather than a brisk or energizing one. A fragrance that manages to convey the scents of water and fresh air without being overtly ozonic. The drydown is a soft &clean gardenia and cozy, muted woods.

This smells a lot like Narciso Rodriguez. It is a bit sweeter than NR, but its sour sweat/BO note certainly rings true to the original.

It's amazing how different this smells to different people....To me it smells just like some guy who sprays on deodorant everyday but has no use for soap & water: at first slightly ozonic -- but then comes sour, musty, and almost onion-y....

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Tickled Pink Scentsations-Coeur d Amour

Madagascar vanilla, golden rose, white lilies, musk, powder. This is a romantic, perfumey scent. The Madagascar vanilla is sweet & scrumptious, the golden rose elegant, the musk warm & smooth, the powder note is comforting, and the note of white lilies adds lift to the fragrance.

I'd been having a craving for a rich, vanilla rose scent, so when this one popped up on the TPS scent list, and with powder notes, no less, (I adore powdery florals) I just had to order it. And I'm so glad I did! With notes of rose, sweet creamy vanilla, powder and, to my nose, a hint of violet -- this is a gloriously feminine scent that harkens back to a bygone era (...therefore rendering it an "old lady" scent for some readers). As for me I find myself reaching (and ordering) more and more for this type of fragrance compared to the trendy, and too often wacky or masculine, scents available today. A possible repurchase (there's a long list of other TPS scents that I'm eager to try).

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Tickled Pink Scentsations Purple Reign
Soie 5/20/2007 9:52:00 PM
Scent Description: Sweet wood violets with a touch of cloud. Dewy greens, crushed bergamot, orris, and sheer white musk support the fresh clean sweet scent of violet. This is a musky, iris, candied violets & citrus fragrance that actually "smells" purple. I've heard other scents described that way, and it does sound silly, but it fits this one perfectly. Freshly sprayed, there's a deep, tangy grape & blackberry-like aroma which, combined with the note of bergamot, is quite exhilarating to inhale (and this from a person who generally dislikes berry scents)! After a short while the fragrance softens a bit and takes on more of a candied violet & iris/orris (which adds a bit of earthiness) scent, along with a mild powdery note. Overall, though, this is bright & sweet, with a fresh/clean overtone reminiscent more of shampoo or bubble bath than of soap. Its drydown reminds me a lot of Champs Elysees Too Much, which is also bright, but features mimosa (somewhat similar to violet in scent) as a predominating note.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - The Body Dessert Shop Let Them Eat Cake

This really does smell like cake -- a light, airy, layer cake slathered with rich, creamy, white frosting. With my order, Colleen included a body cream sample in this scent; it's very nice and is absorbed quickly by the skin, but I desire sillage, so my preference is for perfume sprays and body mists rather than creams & lotions. I'll definitely be ordering this in a perfume though!

A gourmand baby powder fragrance! This is cozy & sweet, with a scrumptious foody note of vanilla, florals, and perhaps a bit of almond. I've tried at least six etailer baby powder blends, and this one is my favorite of the bunch!

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Lemon Bay Soap Co Zest Aqua Pure Type

While I've worn this several times over the past few weeks, I do believe it would make an even better warm weather scent. I don't know the actual notes, but it smells like a sweet, mildly aquatic, lilac-scented soap TMN. Refreshing yet feminine.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Cleanse Your Soul She Walks in Beauty EdP
Soie 3/12/2007 2:05:00 AM
Cotton candy, black cherries, whipped cream and angelfood cake. Basically a sweet cherry vanilla scent -- but the cherry smells more like a cherry cough drop, and I'm not picking up any cake or whipped cream notes when I sniff this. Overall it's really the fake wild cherry smell that kills it for me. No repurchase.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Great Scents of Humor My Milkshake is Better Than Yours
Soie 2/17/2007 2:08:00 AM
I've yet to find an etailer vanilla ice cream/milkshake scent that truly smells like vanilla ice cream from start to finish: this one is no exception. It has a distinct note of almond when freshly applied and -at first- that was a big turn off for me. However, after wearing it many times over the last few weeks, I've grown to love those creamy, sweet, vanilla almond notes. The pay-off, though, is in the drydown: that's when the fragrance turns into the most delicious aroma of melted vanilla ice cream...rich, creamy and very vanillic, and without heavy buttery notes. A definite repurchase!

Alcohol, tart fruits, flat florals and dry woods. Much too acrid for my tastes.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Smells So Sweet Wheatberry and Cream
Soie 2/1/2007 9:49:00 PM
This starts off smelling a lot like the "Dove Soap Type" scent I purchased from another e-tailer. After a short while though, the grain note become more evident but doesn't last very long. The drydown is soapy and a tad bitter. Personally I prefer some degree of sweetness in my fragrance choices, and though this has potential, it does lack even a hint of sweetness. Basically it's Oatmeal, Milk, Honey and White Musk, but WITHOUT the note of honey, and with only a trace of almond (instead of the almond overload that's so common in this scent type). To sweeten it, I mixed in a little Ultimate Vanilla FO, and the oatmeal association became obvious. If I ever order this one again, I'll request a blend with a very sweet & buttery vanilla.
