Eye Shadow -Prestige - Golden Sun
Rhinestoner 1/2/2006 5:16:00 AM
I'm a d/s product whore, so when I saw the line of Prestige shadows in sleek little discs, I had to buy one. Golden Sun is a bright gold with microglitter that is visible, but not obscenely so. Used dry, the shadow lacks staying power. Used wet, the colour is vivid and the shimmer sticks to your lids. I normally prefer Annabelle shadows for their pigmentation and shimmer, but I find that Annabelle's colour range, while pretty, is not broad enough to keep me from getting bored. I would buy Prestige again, but I doubt they will replace Annabelle in my daily m/u lineup.

Lotions/ Creams -Olay - Quench Body Lotion Extra Dry Skin
Rhinestoner 1/2/2006 5:10:00 AM
When I fly, it takes a while before my skin settles back down. It tends to get very dry and flaky in the meantime. I bought Quench because of the reviews on MUA and am not disappointed. The lotion sinks in nicely, and the scent is pleasant and nondescript once the lotion has soaked in. In terms of moisturization, this lotion is excellent. It is not tacky, nor does it leave a film that "balls up" when rubbed off. The finish, as some reviewers have said, is wonderfully soft and smooth and slippy, rather than tacky or oily like some lotions or butters can be. I was actually looking forward to the shimmer, but was a little disappointed at how subtle the shimmer actually was. Definitely not as shimmery as some shimmer lotions, like the gold shimmer lotion produced by Jergens. I would go so far as to say that the shimmer is invisible to the naked eye on your skin unless you're looking for it. Would repurchase if nothing better comes along.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Lipglass in Prrr
Rhinestoner 11/8/2005 5:32:00 PM
I bought this because I really wanted to understand what all the MAC hype was about. The colour is totally gorgeous, and the scent is to die for, but as far as lipgloss goes, I don't know if this warrants all the hype. Sure, it's nice to pull out a tube of MAC instead of a tube of CoverGirl when you're touching up in public, but there are other lower end lipglosses that are comparable to MAC Lipglass. Revlon Superlustrous is one, and Lancome JTs (L'Oreal CJs) is the other, which is fortunate for me because as a broke student, I need all the cheap thrills I can get.

Conditioner -Got 2 Be - Instantly Gratifying Conditioner
Rhinestoner 11/8/2005 5:26:00 PM
Love this. Love the scent. Love the way it makes my hair feel. Love the way it lathers into a mousse in your hair. Love the moisture. Just love it! I got the litre duo at Cosco. The shampoo was drying but the conditioner is wonderful. The way it foams slightly when you massage it into your hair is really unique, I've never had any other conditioner do that. Also, the pale, peachy pearlescent shimmer of the conditioner itself is pretty, and for shallow girls like me, pretty is everything!

Styling Products -John Frieda - Gold Rush Shimmer Gel
Rhinestoner 11/8/2005 5:18:00 PM
I got a full size bottle of this shimmer gel for free bundled with a bottle of Jergens lotion. This DOES work on dark hair, you just have to make sure you mix it with some sort of styling product first, like gel or smoothing serum. As long as you don't glop it on, and use it on wet hair, it works just fine. You get shimmery, subtly lightened hair. What this is REALLY great for is as a body shimmer. I like to cut this with a little bit of body lotion (the thinner the lotion, the less streaky) and apply it over bare legs, shoulders and decolletage. This is great for club nights because once the gel is dry on your body, it's not going anywhere. If you use enough of this, you get the "hip hop video girl" effect. JF really should market this as a body highlighter.

Fragrances -Burberry - Brit
Rhinestoner 11/8/2005 5:11:00 PM
This is my standby "tame" fragrance for work, school, hanging around... you get the picture. It's not offensive, but it's not WOW either. Very femme, but not vavavoom sexy. My WOW fragrance is Dior's Hypnotic Poison. I have the Brit EDP, and it seems that over time, the the citrusy notes have become a lot more prominent. I probably won't repurchase this because it's just "ok", but if I can't find something better, this may find its way back to my perfume arsenal. Edit: This has become far too common and recognizable. Still a nice fragrance but would not repurchase for that reason alone.

Highlighters -Caboodles - Scented Shimmer Duster
Rhinestoner 11/8/2005 4:56:00 PM
I love this thing!!! I have it in Aphrodite (silver) and I hope they never ever EVER discontinue this. Frankly, the brush design isn't all that bad. Urban Decay has a shimmer powder in a similar brush packaging at Sephora. J Lo has a bronzer in the same packaging... but compared to those two, this is a much better buy. I got this for $9.99 CDN and it's been on sale for cheaper. The quality of the powder is great, and the scent is undiscernable once it's on. The shimmer effect is sophisticated, no chunky glitter here. Yes, it's sheer, but that's what I'm going for - sophisticated, subtle shimmer. Since you're probably not going to bust out your shimmer powder in public, fake it like it's high end and no one's going to be the wiser.

Eye Shadow -Annabelle - Gleam
Rhinestoner 9/5/2005 1:00:00 AM
I'm so sorry for everyone who doesn't have access to Annabelle products. They are the bomb! They're packaged like MAC singles and are of about the same quality. Gleam is a pale gold finely milled shimmer eyeshadow that's fantastic as a wash. The shimmer is so fine that it doesn't look too glittery like some cheaper brands can. Used wet, it becomes more intense and is great as a highlighter. I've already repurchased twice, and will continue to.

Misc Beauty Tools -La Cross - Professional Eyelash Curler
Rhinestoner 9/5/2005 12:56:00 AM
I bought this because I wanted a set of eyelash curlers and they were THERE on the rack calling to me. At less than $5 Canadian, these were blah. They left my lashes with a 90 degree crimp, which can be remedied by curling several times and not pressing too hard. Definitely not repurchasing.

Lipstick -L'Oreal - Colour Riche Lipstick
Rhinestoner 9/5/2005 12:46:00 AM
**This is for L'Oreal Colour Riche in Tawny.** This is an absolutely delicious colour. I was lemming Colour Riche in Toasted Almond, but when I finally got to the store, I found the shade I had in mind was actually closer to Tawny than Toasted Almond. I'm not too terribly sure why they categorized Tawny as a cool colour, it's more neutral. The colour is a nude pinky fleshtone that looks perfectly polished. I paired it with WnW 666 lip liner, and although 666 is a little dark for me, when blended, my lips look very naturally polished - creamy velvet matte with a hint of moisture. I would definitely repurchase and probably in different shades too!

Lip Liners -Wet 'n' Wild - #666 liner
Rhinestoner 9/5/2005 12:43:00 AM
I bought this because of raves on MUA and by various makeup artists. It's creamy, the new formula is moisturizing and smooth. I love the texture of it, but the colour is a little dark. Still, if I blend, this provides a nice polished look. I don't see how this is a nude lip liner in any case. It's too dark to be a nude on me. I'll buy WnW liners again, but probably not in this colour.

Lipstick -Jane - Megabites Flavorful lipstick in PUNCH BOWL
Rhinestoner 9/5/2005 12:38:00 AM
I bought this because I'd heard so much about Jane lipsticks. All in all, I was satisfied with this, but my involvement with Jane lipstick only goes this far. It smells fabulous and tastes sweet, but seems greasy and somewhat thin. The colour in the tube is a pretty frost pink. Pink, with gold shimmer. Pretty in theory, but the shimmer particles are a little too large to create a smooth look. This might work for certain looks, but not for my everyday look. Would not repurchase simply because I would never use this enough to run out of it.

Moisturizers -Garnier - Fresh Quenching Moisturising Fluid
Rhinestoner 8/30/2005 2:34:00 PM
**I assume this is the same as Garnier's 24 Hour Hydrating Day Cream as it is sold in Canada.** I love this moisturizer. I picked it up when I went home to visit my parents and forgot to bring my usual Neutrogena Anti-Wrinkle Anti-Blemish. The consistency of this moisturizer is light but it sinks right into skin, leaving it smooth. It seems to have a bit of a mattifying effect that works wonders for my T Zone. The package says that it contains pure fruit waters and Vitamin E. Vitamin E is always good. Fruit waters? Sounds like a bunch of advertising hype, but hey, this stuff works and works well! It was about $9 Canadian. I would definitely repurchase. **Edit** You know what? This stuff reminds me of Lancome's Vinefit oil free moisturizer except it's not as slick and doesn't smell as strong.
