Gels/Soaps -Unlisted Brand - Kirk's Original Coco Castile Soap
Nowheregirl 4/23/2010 7:39:00 PM
This is the best face and body soap ever! Better than Dove and the now-discontinued Cream Bar by Origins. It's all-natural, and made with coconut oil and glycerine. It creates an insanely rich, creamy lather and doesn't dry out my skin. The smell us light and pleasant and reminds me of the English luxury soap Vinolia, but Kirk's is much cheaper and easier to find. It costs around $1.40 or less. I bought it at my local supermarket but it's available online at iherb.com too. Kirk's Coco Castile is a classic. It's been around since 1839 and is still made the same way. It's definitely a much-overlooked little gem of a soap.

Gels/Soaps -St. Ives - Soy Milk and Lotus Blossom Moisturizing Body Wash
Nowheregirl 4/23/2010 7:24:00 PM
This body was creates a nice lather and rinses clean with no soap residue left behind. I love the fragrance too. It's like an exotic floral with a hint of vanilla. For under $5, it's helping me wean myself off of expensive department store body washes like Philosophy. I would definitely repurchase.

Gels/Soaps -Unlisted Brand - Remwood Products-Grandma's Lye Soap
Nowheregirl 4/13/2010 11:53:00 AM
I bought this in the gift shop of a historic house museum. The packaging said lye soap was good for acne, so I bought a bar. This soap burned my eyes, and when I got lather up my nose in a panic while trying to get it out of my eyes, it went down my throat and burned my throat. It also left my skin feeling tight and dry. I guess you can't use a product on the face when it's also recommended for doing laundry. I used it twice before putting it away for good.

Skincare - Body -Unlisted Brand - Pears - The Original Transparent Soap
Nowheregirl 4/6/2010 8:01:00 PM
I've used Pears soap on and off since high school. I get enticed by other, more expensive cleansers, but I always buy a bar or two of Pears whenever I feel nostalgic. It cleans well and moisturizes without stripping my skin. But in December 2009 the manufacturer changed the formula. It used to be all-natural, but the new formula contains a ton of chemicals, including SLS, artificial coloring and a cloying artificial fragrance. Look at the ingredients on the box. If it has only 8, including rosin, Rosemary and thyme extracts, it's the original formula. The new formula has 24 ingredients. I've read reviews of the new formula that complain about the fragrance, that it's drying and causes rashes. Pears is no longer all-natural, and the words "natural, original", "non-comedogenic" and "hypo-allergenic" no longer appear on the box of the new formula. If you love the original Pears you might want to stock up on it before the new formula bars hit the market. I can still find the old formula at Dollar Tree and just bought several bars.

Lip Gloss -Neutrogena - Moistureshine Lipgloss in Chic
Nowheregirl 2/24/2010 7:25:00 PM
My favorite lip gloss. It's the perfect "natural but better" lip color. Unfortunately, it's been discontinued. But Neutrogena just relaunched the Moistureshine lip glosses, and the shade called Pure Cider is the perfect replacement.

Cleansers -Tree Hut - Brazilian Nut Foaming Face Wash
Nowheregirl 2/18/2010 9:23:00 PM
I found this at Shaw's supermarket for $6.99. It smells great and gets my skin really clean. It removes makeup well, and it removes my stubborn Flirt Lashadelic mascara better than anything else I've tried. It doesn't dry out my skin despite being a foaming gel cleanser, maybe due to the shea butter. I can't find it online, not even on Tree Hut's website (www.treehutshea.com), so I fear it's been discontinued. I hope not, as it's a very good cleanser at a very reasonable price. I may have to go back to Shaw's and stock up.

Liquid -Neutrogena - Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup SPF 20 (2009 formulation)
Nowheregirl 2/14/2010 8:24:00 PM
Worst foundation ever. It's too thick, doesn't blend easily, accentuates every line and pore in my face, and makes my skin itch. The first time I put it on I immediately washed it off. I'll never wear it again.

Liquid -Rimmel - Renew & Lift
Nowheregirl 1/31/2010 11:23:00 PM
I like tha this comes in a pump bottle. It gives great coverage. I got a compliment on my skin (not my makeup) when I wore this. I apply it with my fingers and blend it with a cosmetic sponge. Using a sponge is key to getting a natural finish. If I blend it with my fingers it looks a little heavy. I took off one star because the lightest shade, Ivory, is a bit dark for my fair complexion. Rommel is a British company, and I knowsome American companies make lighter shades of foundation especially for the British market for the very pale complexions of the Anglo- and Celtic heritage (from which I'm descended and equally pale). Lighter shades would be nice.

Moisturizers -The Body Shop - Carrot Cream
Nowheregirl 1/29/2010 9:11:00 PM
I used the carrot cream 18 years ago until they discontinued it. I'm glad it's back. It moisturizes well. I apply it while my face us still wet from the toner, and when my face dries my skin feels really soft and comfortable. Paired with the reintroduced Passionfruit Cleansing Gel and Cucumber Freshening Water, it makes my skin feel great. I hope they keep these retro products as part of their permanent line again.

I'm so glad TBS brought this back a few years ago. In the mid-90s, I used to buy the 1000 ml bottle for me and my family. When we used it up, I'd bring the bottle back to TBS for a refill. This is so zesty and refreshing, and reminds me of classic, pre-L'Oreal Body Shop.

Cleansers -L'Oreal - Go 360 Clean Deep Facial Cleanser for Sensitive Skin
Nowheregirl 1/28/2010 3:22:00 PM
I thought this was a non-foaming cleanser, but when I used it I discovered that it lathers. But happily, it doesn't dry out my skin. It's gentle but the lather effectively cleans my skin. And I was curious about the scrublet concept. But I love using the scrublet! It's soft, and when I wet it and move it over my face it's very gentle but exfoliating. It's fun to use. I thought the scrublet was just a gimmick but I'm pleasantly surprised.

Moisturizers -L'Oreal - Age Perfect Hydra-Nutrition
Nowheregirl 1/28/2010 3:15:00 PM
This moisturizer makes my skin feel amazing. It's rich but not heavy. My skin feels soft and very comfortable, and puts back moisture after I use a foaming cleanser. I don't have many lines on my face so I can't attest to it's anti-aging benefits, but I'm 44 years old and thought it was time to step it up moisturizer-wise. I think I've found the right face cream for the job.

Fragrances -Estee Lauder - Aliage
Nowheregirl 1/20/2010 7:44:00 PM
My mom had a solid perfume compact of Aliage in the Seventies that I would play with as a child. So I got nostalgic and bought a bottle. At first it smells strongly of the aldehydes in the top notes, but when it dries down it turns into a smokey, woodsy green fragrance with a hint of sweetness. It may be an aquired taste, but I like it. It's perfect fir days when I don't want an overly feminine fragrance that overwhelmes you with florals or vanilla. It's perfect with jeans on a weekend, but I wear it to work as well.

Moisturizers -First Aid Beauty - Ultra Repair Cream
Nowheregirl 1/20/2010 7:01:00 PM
It looks heavy in the jar, but it's lightweight and soufflé-like and goes on without being greasy or oily. Yet it protects my skin from the strong winds and snowstorms that have been battering New England this winter. It feels great on my skin and doesn't clog my pores. It had a very faint eucalyptus fragrance from the essential oil, but I find it pleasant. This cream is a lifesaver for my skin this winter.

Cleansers -First Aid Beauty - Face Cleanser
Nowheregirl 1/20/2010 6:53:00 PM
Gentle cleanser that lathers nicely. It has no fragrance, which I'm happy about. My face glows after I use it. I put a dab in the palm of my hands and add water, working it into a lather before I apply it to my face. I get a better lather thus way. It cleans and soothes my skin.
