Lipstick -Givenchy - Rouge Interdit 18 Elegant Rouge
rated 3 of 5
Kitty_82 8/7/2009 5:20:00 PM

[NW10/15; dark brown hair, golden brown eyes] Edit: Wearing this around was a disappointment-- it wore off so quickly in the middle and left a ring. I think it's because the formula is so satiny, so glossy, really, that it slides right off. Either you need to wear it over liner-filled lips or reapply ever ten minutes. Not the convenient swipe of beauty I thought this was. I am disappointed with my first Givenchy. //This is a beautiful, satiny, moist looking straight-up neutral red. Something of a cherry/berry hybrid. The finish is divine and it feels really nice to apply and have on your lips. It doesn't feel like anything is lying on top of them-- rather, you just feel like you've slicked on something... slick. It's almost balm-like, but bear in mind that I wear lipstick (often heavy ones) every day. This doesn't require a liner, either, which is nice. Overall this is a convenient swipe of beauty. The downside is the outrageous price, considering the shade is not at all unique. MUFE in 421 is the same shade and moist finish, just lightly less luxe feeling and looking. NW10/15 for ref.

Lip Treatments -C.O. Bigelow - Vitamin Mentha #1651 Tinted Lip Balm in Merlot Mint
rated 1 of 5
Kitty_82 8/5/2009 8:08:00 PM

Atrocious product. Dried out my lips (which are rarely dry even in winter) and wore off quickly and unevenly. This was so promising (lovely colour, nice smell, nice texture initially) but so disappointing. The SA at BBW told me she never recommends these balms. Wish someone had told me that before I bought three of them!

Lipstick -NARS - Russian Doll
rated 4 of 5
Kitty_82 8/4/2009 3:16:00 PM

It's taken me awhile to learn how to wear this lipstick. I'm a PPP (NW10/15) who loves bold lips so I immediately swiped on a heavy coating of Russian Doll when I received it in a swap. Unfortunately I looked like an extra in a Marilyn Manson music video. Disappointed I put it away for awhile. Since it's Nars and not NYX I thought I'd give it another shot a few days later. I did something I never do-- applied very lightly, almost like a blot. Eureka! Russian Doll now looks like a pretty mulberry stain on my medium-pigmented lips. It's unlike any colour I have. Definitely worth it if you take some time to work with the colour. As reviewers have said below, I can see this working best with cool-toned fair women.

Lipstick -Rimmel - Lasting Finish - Dare
rated 5 of 5
Kitty_82 8/3/2009 10:06:00 PM

I absolutely loved the feel of this lipstick and its gorgeous tropical coloured-shine. However, the colour was completely wrong on me. This is my fault because I knew it would suit warmer complexions and not my own-- I just couldn't help but try. It is so beautiful. If you're tanned or warm, I urge you to try Dare. If you're cool, stay away and grieve.

Lipstick -Rimmel - Lasting Finish - Airy Fairy
rated 3 of 5
Kitty_82 8/3/2009 10:04:00 PM

Unfortunately, this lipstick made me look anemic. My lips are medium pigmented on fair skin (nw10/15). Rimmel Asia is a better match. Curiously, Asia (which has the same formula) is glossy and smooth, whereas Airy Fairy on me was anything but. Since there are people who like a colour-cancelling nude, I wouldn't dissuade a purchase even if you have my colouring. I cannot stand a washed-out look, though, especially since I don't do dramatic eyes very often. I need a little colour, at least my natural colour!

Lipstick -Rimmel - Lasting Finish - Asia
rated 4 of 5
Kitty_82 8/3/2009 10:00:00 PM

Beginning my foray into nudes. This one seems to be a perfect match to my lipcolour, so it's a keeper. Airy Fairy made me look anemic. I believe I have medium-pigmented lips. NW 10/15, hazel, brown. I enjoy the scent of Rimmel lipsticks-- strong but not flowery and not rancid (like YSL). The feel of this Lasting Finish is nice, too. Wear is average to good.

Eye Shadow -BeneFit Cosmetics - Velvet eyeshadow- Leggy
rated 5 of 5
Kitty_82 8/3/2009 12:27:00 PM

[NW10/15, hazel, brown] As I said in my review for Fawn Over Me, this e/s is the softest, most buttery of any I've ever encountered. I am absolutely bowled over by how finely milled and how, well, velvety this e/s feels and applies. I wish to goodness all e/s felt this way. Then again, I'd be bankrupt. Leggy is a very slightly pinkish champagne. Extremely similar to Fawn, with just a hint of cool/neutral pink. I cannot wear pink e/s without looking punched in the face, so I hesitated with this but am so glad I purchased Leggy. The pink is barely discernable and just adds a tinge of sweetness to my neutral eye look. I am in love with these shadows.

Lipstick -Make Up For Ever - #421
rated 5 of 5
Kitty_82 8/2/2009 6:18:00 PM

This is the only perfect sheer red I've ever encountered. The shade is an infinitely wearable medium-dark true red, perhaps leaning slightly to cool. NOT pinkish, though-- just some blue showing through. It's the colour of red delicious apples. 421 lives in my gym backpack and I use it for that outing (before, during, after gym), so it gets quite a lot of wear. What I love most about it (other than versatility-- it's basically a neutral that matches anything) is that it wears off so evenly and feels so satiny and light on my lips. In a sense it's like an intensely pigmented heavy balm. It's so beautifully functional, and beautiful (if boring) that I'm surprised it gets no mention on the boards. Have repurchased several times and will continue to do so. Absolute staple for me. NW15, br/br.

Eye Shadow -BeneFit Cosmetics - Velvet eyeshadow- Fawn Over Me
rated 5 of 5
Kitty_82 8/2/2009 11:47:00 AM

[NW10/15; dark brown hair, golden brown eyes] Hands-down the most buttery finish in an e/s I've ever encountered. I kept wanting to touch the sample shadows, even in colours I wasn't interested in! They feel soft and velvety as per the name. On the lid, the glide is flawless and even pleasant. I use my finger for this wash as I do with most washes. I would probably call Fawn a pale champagne shimmer, but on my eyes it's closer to a MLBB shade (nw15). I'm glad of that since I'm tired of too much gold tinge on my eyes, which I get with my old standby, BE celestine. Fawn is a bit more sophisticated and flattering. BE is getting too glitzy for me as I get older (have been using it since college, and am 27 now). Looking at myself in the mirror again, I think Fawn is bringing out an interesting, and dare I say sexy, olivey tint to my light brown eyes. Fascinating! [steps out of mirror] I also bought Leggy (very slight pinkish tinge) because I thought I'd need to layer it over Fawn to achieve the perfect wash. For now, Fawn is enough. WIll try that combination tomorrow. [EDIT: The combination is also pretty but not necessary. I'm also layering Gimme Some Plum over Fawn and it's divine] Best e/s product I've bought in years.

Lipstick -Clinique - Different lipstick- ice bloom
rated 4 of 5
Kitty_82 8/2/2009 11:39:00 AM

Beautiful shimmery sheer light/medium pink. Neutral/cool. Long-enough wearing (I don't have unrealistic expectations of this) and fool-proof. Could apply without a mirror, easily. This goes well with my palish skin (nw15). I don't like super-light pink lipsticks because my strong features require more oomph. Ice bloom delivers enough of a pink punch without being loud. It's very pretty for those pretty pink soft looks. Will probably be my standby pink for when I'm not in the mood to rock a high maintenance mouth.

Lip Liners -Wet 'n' Wild - #666 liner
rated 3 of 5
Kitty_82 8/2/2009 3:18:00 AM

The colour is a close enough dupe ( a bit less pink) for Chanel Nude, which is my HG lip liner. I've been meaning to find this for several years, and finally scooped it up on a trip to Buffalo today. I applied it while waiting in line to cross the border, I was so anxious to see if a 99 cent product could replace my ($25?) Chanel. It cannot. Sadly, though the colour was spot-on, the texture was terrible. Rough, dry, and difficult to apply, even after trying the tricks mentioned in other reviews such as warming up the pencil between my hands. By contrast, the Chanel has stayed moist for five years so far (same liner!) and applies like a dream, even now. 666 was a disappointment. Great colour, and of course great price, but otherwise unsuitable.

Concealers -BeneFit Cosmetics - Erase Paste in Fair
rated 2 of 5
Kitty_82 8/2/2009 12:35:00 AM

My skin is not particularly sensitive, but Erase Paste caused burning under my eyes within 30 seconds of application. For that, I'm removing a lipstick. Another is removed because the price is pretty steep for the amount of product and packaging quality. A final lipstick is removed because of the limited range of shades (4?). However, there is potential in this concealer (good consistency) and I wish I'd been able to explore it further.

Lipstick -NARS - Fire Down Below
rated 3 of 5
Kitty_82 8/2/2009 12:30:00 AM

Edit- removed two lipsticks because the wear is really poor for me. This is so thick and matte that it feels really heavy on, like I'm wearing tights instead of pantyhose. It also doesn't last very long and wears off in the middle first-- generally my red mattes are selected for quality to avoid this. Disappointed with NARS. Too bad the colour is so gorgeous and perfect on me, or else I might be tempted to ignore this in favour of red mattes that aren't so high maintenance. ///Original Review: Great red to add to my arsenal. I agree with a reviewer below that this is the colour of *dried* blood. Nosebleed blood. It's not HG but ranks second with Clinique Red Drama (a bluish dark red), both behind YSL Opium Red. It's very neutral, which is quite difficult to find in a red. As a PPP reds often turn fuscia on me (which is fine, as fuscia is flattering with my dark hair, but not the look I seek in a red!) and with my cool tones I dislike too much orange. Fire Down Below manages to hit the middle range with aplomb-- unlike any others, really. This is best worn with a balm and liner. (EDIT- as per above remarks, even those preventative steps don't stop this from being overly drying and short-lived) All in all, I am somewhat satisfied and would recommend this lipstick with some reservations. Nw15, brown hair, light brown eyes.

Deodorants -Dove - Go fresh - cucumber & green tea scent
rated 4 of 5
Kitty_82 7/29/2009 10:56:00 AM

Nicest smelling deodorant I've ever tried. I tried the other scents in the line and they turned on me as the day progressed. This cucumber scent perfectly matches my chemistry. The overall formula lasts long enough, is not too white/smear-prone, is gentle and smooth. I get a faint whiff of the cucumber when working out but otherwise it's very faint. Much prefer this to the older Dove formulations and of course, as stated above, to the other Go fresh scents. Closest to perfect in a deodorant I've come.

Fragrances -Chanel - Beige
rated 5 of 5
Kitty_82 7/29/2009 10:51:00 AM

Absolutely beautiful. I went to the Chanel boutique to sample the Exclusifs and this was my favourite by a long shot. Normally I prefer the dangerously sexy Coco, but for a lighter, easier, softer scent, Beige is better. I wore this on my arms all day long and couldn't stop sniffing. I'm afraid I'm no good at identifying notes, but I will say the different stages of this fragrance were all.. almost addictive! Sweet but not foodie. Not powdery, not too flowery, not spicey... but not bland, either. Completely enjoyable at all times. In fact, I began comparing all other sniffed perfumes that day (an afternoon of boutique hopping) against Beige to see if they were similarly pleasing to my nose. Many were interesting but none were so consistently good. I wish this came in a smaller bottle because I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
