Foundations -Chanel - Pro Lumiere Professional Finish Make-Up ] [DISCONTINUED]

Despite the price this is one of the best foundations I have ever tried. I use a light shade (I guess it's Intensity 1.0 Clair) and it goes on like a dream. It's easy to blend and doesn't leave any weird patches like some other foundations do. Stays on very well and leaves my skin looking fresh without being oily. The coverage is medium, which is good enough for me. I have some small blemishes and a few acne scars to hide and this foundation covers them enough to make them look almost invisible. I like the chic packaging and the pump; it dispenses just enough to cover your face and a little extra for concealing blemishes. But, let's be honest, the price is ridiculous. It's a good foundation but I would've never spent so much on it if I didn't have a gift voucher to cover for most of the cost. Definitely a good foundation but a think you can find one just as good in a lower price range.

Crème -L'Oreal - Matte Morphose
rated 4 of 5
JunkieXL 8/5/2010 6:51:00 AM

When I first started using this, I wasn't convinced at all. I put it away for a while and while I was cleaning out my makeup closet, it was suddenly there again. After some raving reviews on the net, I gave it another try and I'm glad I did! It's soft on the skin, it looks natural and it gives an even, slightly matte finish. I use one of the lighter shades (I think it's 'Golden Ivory' but I'm not sure) and it's a good match for my NW20 skin tone. It has good staying power, the color doesn't change on my face during the day and the price is fair. The only problem I have with it, is the packaging. I don't like having to put my fingers in a jar to get the product out. But considering all the positive things, that's just a minor flaw. Not my HG but definitely good enough!

Eye Shadow -Calvin Klein - Eye Color Wash
rated 5 of 5
JunkieXL 8/4/2010 4:52:00 AM

I found this at an outlet store... I used CK makeup before but is was discontinued after a very short while. (I live in the Netherlands) I wasn't planning to buy anything when I found it but a only 1 euro a piece, I couldn't resist. I bought 'Moss' and 'Rosewater' and I already owned 'Sea Mist' and 'Dove Grey'. It goes on very sheer and I like the shimmery finish. I'm not much of a shimmer person but this kind of shimmer is just enough for me. I use a primer underneath and it stays on for hours without creasing. Rosewater looks very cute as a base color under my regular black eyeliner and Moss gives just enough color to define my eyes without looking heavily made up. Maybe I'll pick up some more on my home this afternoon ;-)

Treatments -L'Oreal - Skin Genesis Pore Minimizing Serum
rated 4 of 5
JunkieXL 8/2/2010 4:58:00 AM

I started using this after a pretty bad breakout and I needed something to speed up the healing process. My skin was blotchy, bumpy and it looked quite sallow. My first positive impression is the packaging: it comes in a pump and dispenses just enough to cover your face without leaving it greasy. The second is the smell: it's fresh, not overwhelming. It doesn't irritate my skin like other skin refinishers do and it makes my skin feel smooth. I use it in the evening; afterwards I top it with the Skin Genesis Pore Minimizing moisturizer. In the morning my skin looks even, rested and feels soft. In the morning, I tone my skin with Skin Genesis tonic and I put on the Pore Minimizing moisturizer again. It's a bit pricey but considering other products (like EL Idealist) in the same range, I think it's a fair price. I'll buy again!

Skincare - Body -Bio Oil - All Products
rated 5 of 5
JunkieXL 7/28/2010 9:48:00 AM

I'm one of the fans of Bio Oil. I have some old acne scars and slight discoloration in my face and I find it hard to find something soft that makes the scars less visible but doesn't harm my skin. My skin is combination/normal and normally I would never put oil on my face as it is oily enough by itself. But after some good experiences with Clarins skin oils, I decided to give this one a try. I have to say: give it time because it doesn't work overnight. I use it after I've cleansed my face at night and I massage it in gently. In the morning my skin looks more even, red spots look healed and my skin feels supple and soft. I also have the feeling it helps healing spots and other blemishes. After I take the residue off with a little tonic, I can use my foundation without the need for moisturizer. You don't need a lot, just a few drops so a little goes a long way. I only took one point off because of the packaging; I think it would be nice if it came with a little pump in it. After I finish this bottle I'll definitely buy it again!

Treatments -Estee Lauder - Idealist
rated 4 of 5
JunkieXL 7/9/2010 7:28:00 AM

I've been using this for a while now and I really like it. It makes my skin look smooth, it's a great primer for my foundation and it makes my skin look more even. I haven't noticed any peeling yet but skin can get a little irritated when you use too much product. I like the smell and the concistency; it's smooth and light. It comes in a pump bottle, which is a absolute pro for me. I'm glad I found this product!

Polishes -OPI - Drip Dry
rated 5 of 5
JunkieXL 5/17/2010 7:46:00 AM

Oh, how I just love this product... I'm far to impatient to wait for my polish to dry so this is a total life saver for me. Works brilliantly and does as it promises: it dries polish in just a minute. Easy to use, fairly priced... I love it!

Liquid -Clinique - Acne Solutions Liquid Makeup
rated 4 of 5
JunkieXL 4/2/2010 2:24:00 PM

After going without acne for years, I recently had some bad breakouts and read about this new foundation containing salycic acid. I bought the lightest shade 'Fresh Ivory' and I think it's a good match to my skintone. It's easy to blend, though I use a sponge instead of a brush. (like the shop assistant opted) Gives good coverage, has a very matte finish and great staying power. The smell is a bit overwhelming and I felt a slight tingling sensation after applying it but I guess this was because I used benzoyl peroxide on my spots the night before. Just started using it but so far, so good! I haven't noticed any change in my skin yet but it's to early to draw conclusion because I only just started using it.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Telescopic
rated 4 of 5
JunkieXL 3/25/2010 5:21:00 PM

This is one of the mascaras that tends to drag my lashes down after curling. Such a shame because I love the concistency and the clean and easy brush. I now use it on my lower lashes to give them some oomph and it works wonders for me.

Lip Gloss -Lancome - Lancome Juicy Tubes
rated 1 of 5
JunkieXL 3/25/2010 5:12:00 PM

To be honest I never really understood all the fuzz about these tubes. In my experience they tend to have very little pigment, a lot of sticky-icky and a dispenser I don't like to use. The first one I bought was Strawberry; one of the very first colors to come out and afterwards I bought Lychee and a set containing three mini tubes. They're somewhere in my closet... Stucked with all these other products I don't use but they just look too cute in the closet to throw away.

Liquid -Estee Lauder - Ideal Matte
rated 1 of 5
JunkieXL 2/28/2010 1:53:00 PM

God... I just HATE this. I already used it before and I can't think of a good reason why I let myself getting talked into it all over again. The lightest color still looks very orange on my skin, it settles into pores, it looks very artificial on my face and the coverage is mediocre at it's best. The packaging sucks big time; you have to squeeze very hard to get anything out and it has a very weird shape. The fact that it's a mousse makes it even harder to get it out of the tube. Very expensive mediocre foundation in my opinion; in no way worth the money I spent on it :(.

Liquid -Bourjois - Healthy Mix Foundation
rated 4 of 5
JunkieXL 2/15/2010 7:19:00 AM

Always looking for the HG of foundation but lately on a budget, I walked into this at a local drugstore. I have combination skin but it tends to look a little dull during the cold months of winter so I was looking for something to make skin look a little more 'alive'. As I'm a fan of their 10Hrs Sleep Foundation, I thought I should give this a try. *It's a fluid but it's not runny, that's good. *It comes in a pump bottle so no fingers to put in the bottle: very good. *Coverage: light to medium; not great for very blemished or scarred skin. Good if you're looking for natural coverage. *Very easy to use, spreads across the face like butter; I use a sponge but also works well when applied with a brush. *Color selection: 8 colors, from very light to darker tones. (I use Vanilla and Beige Clair, I'm a NW20 at MAC) *Makes skin feel supple and soft but tends to get a bit shiny on combination and/or oily skin. *Contains perfume, might be a problem for sensitive skin. Overall a good foundation, considering the price/quality.

Foundations -Maybelline - Dream Creamy Foundation
rated 5 of 5
JunkieXL 2/12/2010 7:04:00 AM

I've never been a big fan of the Dreammouse series so I was very curious when this one came out. I have combination skin but during the cold winter months it can get itchy, blotchy and dry. First I tried it on over a moisturizer. It gave good cover, the color is perfect for me (I use one of the lightest shades: light beige) and it looks natural. During the day, my nose and chin got very shiny so afterwards I tried it without moisturizer and it's great. I dab a little loose powder over my nose and chin and that's enough to keep it looking fresh all day. Very important for me: it doesn't make me break out :). My only doubt is the packaging. They included a little sponge but is has an strange shape and doesn't seem to pick up any makeup. I started using my regular triangular sponges and it works a lot better for me!

Pressed Powders -Maybelline - Dream Matte Pressed Powder
rated 4 of 5
JunkieXL 11/16/2009 4:25:00 PM

I use this sparingly to set my foundation and so far, so good. It's not like a miracle worker but it does keep shine away for quite a while. Especially when you use it on top of a matte foundation it works really well. The packaging however is not my thing. The included powder puff is just crap; I replaced it with another one and I prefer to use a large, fluffy brush to brush on a thin layer. I keep looking for the HG but in the meantime this is good enough.

Mascara -Maybelline - Volum' Express The Colossal Waterproof
rated 4 of 5
JunkieXL 11/11/2009 11:19:00 AM

Using the non-waterproof version was a huge dissapointment so I don't know exactly what made me think the WP version would be better... My HG of mascaras has always been Volum'Express and I've been using this for years now. I once accidentally bought the non-WP version and I noticed it dragged down my lashes after curling. Thinking about this, I thought that this also might be the issue with The Colossal. At a cosmetics discount store I found The Colossal WP and I decided I might give it a try. I'm glad I did because I like the WP version much better. I still think the brush is a bit too big but it doesn't drag down my lasher after curling and it gives a good, inky black coating. I don't think it lives up to the promise of 7x more volume; it's probably just the same as Volum'Express. It didn't smudge or budge and using the right application technique it doesn't clump either. It's not my HG but good enough to keep.
