Don't believe it when they tell you that Castings does not lighten hair and washes out after 28 shampoos. I used a light brown shade on my light brown hair. Their light brown turned my light brown into a pretty light auburn--that did not "fade" at all, but began to show dark roots in 4 weeks. Then as time passed, the colored hair began to go brassy. I'd not intended to get involved in the whole coloring routine, but lo, there was no other way to correct the color. I ended up covering over it eventually with Hydrience (Clairol)--a permanent haircolor that faded after a couple weeks, leaving me with my brass Castings.

Hair -L'Oreal - Feria Highlighting

The highlighted strands were initially orangey gold ranging to platinum, not "golden blonde," on my naturally light brown hair that is about 10% gray. The highlights looked unnatural and brassy--no subtlety at all. They weren't THAT obvious, but when I tried to cover over them with a lt. brown permanent haircolor, I realize how thoroughly the highlights had ruined my hair--stripped the color, turned it into straw, and then, in combo with the permanent dye, my hair broke off, so I had fuzzy little tendrils all over the top of my head.
