Styling Products -Pantene - Texturize - Moussing Foam Wax
rated 3 of 5
Beaner 4/13/2009 11:40:00 AM

This is some strange stuff for my short hair. If I let my hair dry naturally, the foam wax leaves my hair feeeling soft, not crunchy. If I use the hairdryer, my hair immediately starts feeling like the helmet-head syndrome from too much product. Although, I am left an all-day set, if that's your preference. And if I used it on dry hair, it provide some set with a little leftover crunch. I'm cheap enough that I will probably use the rest of the can but it will be the one and only can.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Volume Exact [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
Beaner 2/13/2009 3:50:00 PM

When it comes to my mascara, I'm a pure Cover Girl fan. I've tried them all. I love Fantastic Lash with the one drawback...it tends to smear after a day's wearing. I tried the Lash Exact but it didn't quite fit the bill. The Volume Exact is pefect - nicely defined lashes (no spider lashes or clumping), volume plus length, comes off with regular cleansers and can last the day through evening. What's not to like?

Styling Products -Garnier - Fructis XXL Volume Thickening Mousse Extreme
rated 1 of 5
Beaner 1/16/2009 1:48:00 PM

I don't like this mousse. It seems to coat my hair, reduce waves, and create helmet-head. I have short hair and prefer a mousse over gel. I like the Garnier Voume Inject Mouuse better.

Lipstick -Maybelline - Moisture Whip Lipstick - Peach Mocha
rated 3 of 5
Beaner 12/18/2008 4:15:00 PM

I like the formula of Moisture Whip. The lipstick is creamy enough that I can rub my lips together without drag. The lasting power was enough to get me throught two cups of coffee. However, the color is just not for me. Peach Mocha reminds me of a duo-chrome color, pinkish in one light and peachy in another. There's enough brown in the color that the shade is muted rather than bright. In my eyes, Peach Moca looks strange. Luckily, I had a coupon so I only paid $1 for the tube. Now I wish I had another coupon to try another color.

Blush -Jane - blushing blossom [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
Beaner 12/11/2008 3:30:00 PM

Blushing Blossom is a color that works for light to medium complexions. In fact, Blossom is my HG blush for my light-medium skin. And, it's just right for my teenage daughter who experimenting with makeup. I like that it has less brown than Petal which can look a bit orange on me. I've tried Blushing Plum (too dark and shimmery) and Blushing Glow (again, shimmery and too orange). I love the feel and wear of Jane's Blushing Cheecks blushes. For the price, they are hard to beat.

Lip Gloss -Cover Girl - Lipslicks-Hipster
rated 5 of 5
Beaner 11/10/2008 2:10:00 PM

Here's another 5-star review! On my lips, it looks like a warm medium pinkish red. Not too pink to be girly, and not too bright as to be in your face. It's truly like my lips but better. The feel is good. I wouldn't put this if my lips needed some healing as it's not really the best for chapped lips. But if your lips are good to go, LipSlicks is a the perfect answer for color.

Lipstick -Cover Girl - TruShine - Blushberry Shine 415 [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
Beaner 10/31/2008 10:55:00 AM

I'm not a big fan of heavy cream, matte, or never-come-off-your-lips lipsticks. The TruShine has what I'm looking for...a little bit of shine, sheerness and color. Unless the product is advertised as "long-lasting", you can pretty much assume that any lipstick with "shine" is only going to stick around for a short time. I don't mind reapplying...to each their own. The Blushberry is a neutral medium pink that should look good on most skintones. I'm a lighter girl with medium brown hair and medium brown eyes, and Blushberry looks fine on me. I have one hesitancy in that it's a tad mauvey (which doesn't usually flatter my skin) but somehow it works. I would buy again if I didn't find a better color.

Moisturizers -Eucerin - Redness Relief Soothing Night Creme
rated 3 of 5
Beaner 10/29/2008 2:31:00 PM

I've been on search for nice winter moisturizer for my sensitive, rosacean face. I first tried some samples and my face was OK with it. But, now that I've bough a jar and have been using for a few weeks, I know this is not the cream for me. My face is looking bumpy, red in spots and having some small papules that I don't usually get. The cream feel nice going on and doesn't have a greasy look which is all fine with me. I wish the cons weren't bigger than the pros.

Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Finacea Gel
rated 5 of 5
Beaner 10/17/2008 2:52:00 PM

I've been using Finacea for over 2 years. I also use Metrogel and use the two on alternate days. I was diagnosed with rosacea and also suffer from psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis. I kid with my dermatologist that I'm a walking skin problem from my head down to my feet. All thanks to family genetics.

When I first started using Finacea, I suffered from the itching as has most others. It lasted for about 3 months. Now, I only get irritation if I go longer than 4 or 5 days between use. I use all over since I have redness on my forehead, cheeks, and chin.

I love Finacea. Before using, my skin always felt rough and flaky. I would try using physical scrubs which left my skin feeling smoother and red..very red. And forget using anything labeled "anti-aging" or "anti-wrinkled"! I still steer away from those products because I'm afraid of the reaction or irrtation. After the first 2 days of use, my skin was dramatically smoother.

This is also the only thing that helps my skin after a flare-up. Cold winter winds are my worst enemy. If I don't protect my face, I will end up with red inflamed cheeks within hours. After the red goes away, my cheeks have intense flaking. Without Finacea, it would be days before the flakes dissappeared...now it's only a day or two.

As for acne and clogged pores, I really can't speak to Finacea's performance. It's true that I dont' have blackhead anymore but it could also be due to the Metrogel. I was starting to have less and less cystic bumps by the time my rosacea was diagnosed so my lack of pimples could be hormones or medication.

All in all, I really like Finacea and would hate to give it up.

Styling Products -Pantene - Texturize- Ultimate texture hairspray
rated 3 of 5
Beaner 9/10/2008 12:13:00 PM

I have mixed feelings about this hair spray. My hair - thick, funky waves, used to be fine but getting coarser with gray, and prone to frizz. Until recently, my hair was shoulder-length with layers. My hair always looked good before I left the house. However, by the time I got to work, the end would be flipping out in places that it shouldn't be. And it just didn't look right. Now I have a short shag and the hairspray works much better. It's funny when I first use it, my hair feels sorta like a helmet. A couple of hours later, I can hardly feel it at all. Overall, it's not bad but I'm sure that I can find something just a little bit better.

Cleansers -Eucerin - Redness Relief Soothing Cleanser
rated 5 of 5
Beaner 6/4/2008 9:48:00 AM

I am loving this cleanser!! During a visit to the derm for my rosacea and psoriasis, I picked up one of the Redness Relief sample kits. I'm not nuts about the green-toned products but the cleanser is a smashing hit. I suffer from rosacea, and my skin tend to be slightly oily during the summer and drier during the winter. My topical medications keep breakouts and blackheads under control so I cannot speak as to how this cleanser does with blemish-prone skin. The gel-type cleanser is slightly thick and non-foaming. Seem to remove makeup although some mascaras and eyeliners might require an eye-makeup remover. When it's rinsed off, my skin does feel slightly stripped; however, the feeling soon passes once I use my rosacea topicals. I always look at my skin after a shower. In the last 10 years, my skin has gone from looking sallow and pale to redness and flare-ups from the rosacea. After using the Soothing Cleanser, my face still looks normal. No hints of irritation, no itching, no filmy residue, no patchy redness - all great things in my book! The one thing I might change is packaging. The cleanser comes in a tube which ensures that you will be able to use most of the product but sometimes a pump is more convenient. It's a small thing.

Eyeliner -Wet 'n' Wild - H2O Proof Liquid Eyeliner
rated 4 of 5
Beaner 3/19/2008 10:43:00 AM

I bought the brown eyeliner after reading some reviews here at MUA. Wow, this stuff stays and stays and stays. For my eyes that are moistured with some cheap eye cream, I haven' experienced any smudging or flaking. The tip, a hard sponglike pointed end, is a bit tricky to work with but it can be done. Practice makes perfect. For the lower lashline, I will blot the end with a tissue before applying. Once applied, any blending must happen within seconds because this stuff dries very, very quickly. The directions do say to shake the bottle before using and I think it helps mix the ingredients for proper application and drying time. I'm not sure what number/color I have but it's a deep brown which is almost a little too intense. I'm thinking I might try the Smoky or the new H20 Proof Eye Pencil. Overall, the price is good, it does what it says and I would buy again.

Foundations -Almay - Almay Pure Blends Mineral Makeup
rated 2 of 5
Beaner 3/19/2008 10:15:00 AM

I ran out of my beloved EM matte, and was leaving for vacation. I bought the Almay hoping it would tide me over until I could place an order. I had tried the Neutrogena (so-so) and picked up the Almay. First off, the coverage is sheer. I have rosacea which I know can be hard to hide but at least EM tones it down whereas the Almay didin't do much of anything. Secondly, I'm a matte lady. I cannot stand shimmer in my foundation. The cosmetics company say "natural", "luminous", "your skin" ..I say fake shine. SHIVERS! Yes, the Almay has fake shine. And the color, I picked up "Fair to Light" thinking it should be on the paler side. Wrong, again. I would call this more light to medium shade with strong beige tones. Even if the color was right, I still wouldn't buy this again. The packaging is horrible and amount is small for the price. I dumped the powder into an old EM concealer container (the smaller one) and it didn't even fill it 3/4 up. For an additional $20 and some change, I could get 2 foundations, a concealer, a finishing powder, and some eyeshadows or blushes from Everday Minerals. Sorry, Almay, but you missed the mark on mineral foundations.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Exact
rated 4 of 5
Beaner 11/2/2007 11:45:00 AM

I say I would buy this mascara again but only if I couldn't find Fantastic Lash. The mascara doesn't smudge, last well into the day, is removed fairly easily, and defines lashes. My lashes do look longer if that's what you are seeking. I like the formula but cannot stand that brush. What is with the cosmetic industry trying force these little nylon/plastic/rubber/whatever brushes that don't do a darned thing? If CO would replace the brush, I would be tempted to buy again.

Mascara -Maybelline - Great Lash Mascara
rated 1 of 5
Beaner 10/17/2007 8:35:00 AM

I tried Great Lash again after many years of using Cover Girl. I was thinking maybe I missed something based on the raves of professional makeup artists. After one experience, I remembered why I don't like this mascara. It's just plain bad. Spider lashes and smearing after 4 hours of wear is just not my idea of a dream mascara. After trying a few time to make sure my eye cream wasn't causing the smears, this went straight into the trash can. Note to self, avoid buying the mascara in the infamous pink and green tube.
