Moisturizers -Olay - Complete Moisture Lotion [DISCONTINUED]

I have truly combination skin - cheeks that can be flaky, T-zone w/ occasional breakouts. Though this product didn't make me break out, it didn't moisturize my cheeks enough during a New York winter, surprising given the positive reviews here. Oh well. Bought a different moisturizer to get me through winter (L'oreal Age Perfect) and I've transitioned seamlessly into the warmer months with no problem. Olay Complete just wasn't for me. Like the SPF though.

Primer/ Corrector -Cat Cosmetics - Silk Purrfection

This is a great find for use with liquid foundations! I was a little worried about using this on my combination skin as the catalog says something like use this "if your skin is dry or if you you'd like your makeup to last longer" and it feel slick at first but once that makeup goes on, wow. My face feels velvety, looks perfect, my makeup glides on. The real test was the midday face check - no half circles of eyemakeup under my eyes, my face still looked great, and if I'm in a "dewy face" mood, mostly no touch ups neccessary. (If not, just a little powder) This stuff has held up through the first 8o-something degree days here in Manhattan, the price is reasonable, and I'm wondering what else I should check out from Cat Cosmetics. I would've never found this stuff without MUA - thanks to all! Also works great with no foundation and just a little concealer and powder. UPDATE (several months later) I find this primer is at its best when used with a liquid foundation. With my Two Faced Blenders Stick Foundation, this doesn't help much, except under my eyes, to avoid the midday undereye makeup circles mentioned above. In fact, it's now ESSENTIAL for me to put this under my eyes (and on my lids, though people recommend against that); I've found it helps my concealer and eye shadow to stay put, and prevents eyeliner smudging.

Lotions/ Creams -Clarins - Moisture-Rich Body Lotion

This stuff is just ok. Moisturizes well initially but dryness sets in a little later. And the fragrance is WAY TOO STRONG for me, it's nice but overpowering. I guess the smell's ok if you're wearing a similar fragrance but I rarely am. Plenty of drugstore brands moisturize better with a more pleasant scent and at a more reasonable price. Happy this was a gift.

Foundations -Wet 'n' Wild - Keep it real [DISCONTINUED]

Thank you MUA for guiding me to this foundation! This provides the natural, skin-like finish that Stila's liquid foundation could not, and at an unbeatable price! I do have to point out that it gives light coverage, so you may need to use more concealer or go elsewhere if you're looking for more coverage (still debating on whether or not to use this as my wedding foundation, this has beaten out a few high end foundations so far but I'd still like some more coverage). And the color selection is small, though I was able to find a shade that works for me, though I bought the next darker one to mix if necessary. Overall a great product from a surprising source. I am thrilled with it. UPDATE - Have decided not to use this as my wedding foundation and will go with Too Faced Blenders, which has more coverage and a better color match. Still like this stuff and recommend it if you're ok with lighter cover and can find a shade that works for you; it's such a bargain! ANOTHER UPDATE - Even though I'm leaning towards using the Too Faced Blenders for my destination wedding (exact color match, darker shade in case I tan, portability), I soo miss the natural look and feel of this foundation! I wish I could get this in a perfect color match.

Liquid -Clarins - True Radiance (Light Reflecting Oil-Free) [DISCONTINUED]
rated 2 of 5

I received a "bridal makeover" from Clarins. Though I loved the colors used on my eyes, I disliked most of the others products used on me and this was one of them. Heavy, cakey finish, perfume-y stuff (my fiancee's first words to me: "Honey, are you in there?") Of course, I could blame the makeup artist, who, in addition to piling the foundation on thickly, also went one shade too dark (in my opinion). But she also used the loose powder, which I loved, bought and continue to use, so I must conclude it's just this foundation.

Liquid -Stila - Liquid Makeup

I really wanted to like this foundation after hearing all the raves. I've been seeking a non SPF foundation for my wedding and color E matches my Asian medium-toned skin perfectly. However, it's dry stuff, very matte, dull looking. AND, despite such matte-ness, does not cover all that well. I returned it and my foundation quest continues...

Foundations -Cover Girl - Ultimate Finish
rated 3 of 5
sharopooks 5/12/2004 6:15:00 PM

I used to love this stuff in Buff Beige but somewhere along the line, my coloring shifted. So I did the "foundation finder" on their website and the shade they recommended (Soft Honey, I think) was far too dark. The two shades lighter were a little too pink in the packaging, so I didn't check them out. Plus, the finish was thicker and heavier than I remembered it being (nice coverage, though). Anyway, I no longer use this as an overall foundation, but the Buff Beige makes a great spare concealer to have on hand for MMM/GGG me (I keep this at the office in case I forget to pack a concealer for midday touch-ups).

Skincare - Body -Johnson & Johnson - Baby Oil
rated 5 of 5
sharopooks 5/12/2004 5:04:00 PM

This may be almost identical to my review of the gel. Love this stuff so much to moisturize after a shower...other oils work initially but I end up dry at the end of the day. Not with this product. Love the fragrance variations too (chammomile, lavendar, though aloe just smells like baby oil.) And it's a multi-purpose item, as it makes a great oily eye makeup remover, bath oil, etc...

Skincare - Body -Johnson & Johnson - Gel Baby Oil
rated 5 of 5

I use baby oil after showers to moisturize my skin. I love this gel variation, it travels well. And I love the fresh chammomile scent (the lavender one is good for variety and the aloe vera one smells like baby oil but the chammomile is my favorite). Every now and then I try another after-shower oil, only to come back to this one. With other oils, I do find myself dry by the end of the day. Not with this one. A keeper and a bargain.

Liquid -Joey New York - Pure Pores Foundation
rated 3 of 5
sharopooks 5/12/2004 4:47:00 PM

I received a sample of this from Sephora and tried it. It was a little runny and at first it was a miracle product - pores vanished, finish was flawless, coverage was perfect. Then I did a sunlight check and little later and saw the dry flakes on my cheeks (I have classic combo skin - oily T-zone, flaky cheeks). Then even later, I saw the flakes under regular indoor light. By midday, that perfect finish face was mostly gone. This stuff was temporarily great but it was too good to be true...glad it was a sample. Maybe truly oily skin would react better than mine did.

Gels/Soaps -Kiehls - Coriander Shower Gel
rated 4 of 5
sharopooks 5/11/2004 3:05:00 PM

This was part of a gift basket my boss gave me. Pretty good stuff, pleasant herbal smell, a little liquid-y but lathers well and washes off clean. Didn't dry out my skin (like the Kiehl's cucumber wash curiously did) but I prefer something more moisturizing. If you don't have dry body skin, you'd enjoy this but since I do, I probably won't buy this when I'm done.

Gels/Soaps -St. Ives - Collagen/Elastin Body Wash
rated 5 of 5

This is a pretty amazing body wash and, considering it goes for about $3, it's quite a bargain! I bought this after receiving a gift basket with Kiehl's stuff. The cucumber body wash, though fine, didn't provide the moisturizing my body skin needs so I went searching for something I could mix the Kiehl's stuff with (don't like to waste product!). This stuff is moisturizing, smells good, rinses well...it's a find and a steal! Will definitely buy again.
