Powder -Prescriptives - AnyWear Multi-finish compact foundation

This is an amazing powder foundation. I've always hated powder foudations, since they manage to make me look dry and greasy at the same time, slide off my face, change color, or break me out (*cough* Studio Fix). Anywear does none of this. Ecru is a perfect match for my pale, warm skin. How many of us have bought vampire-pale shades to avoid pink undertones from most companies? It truly lasts all day without changing color and controls oil pretty well. Update: I started breaking out with this one too! I'm using Clarins Express powder foundation, which doesn't break me out at all.

Skincare - Face -La Roche Posay - Effaclar Astringent Micro-Exfoliant Lotion

The best toner I have ever used. It does not dry my incredibly sensitive skin out, or bother it in any way. It really gets the job done too. I use this with the purifying cleanser, and Effaclar K and AI. It's strange that this line gets bad reviews- it seems to either really work or not, nothing in between. For me, it has absolutely changed my skin and works better than anything. I was on heavy doses of minocyclin and tried every acne product (even Cetaphil, Purpose, and the acne.org regimen) and still had terrible acne. Not only did I have bad skin, it was flaking off and so dry. After a few DAYS of this line, my acne had cleared, my tone looked better, and no dryness or irritation! It has been steadily getting better ever since. It doesn't seem to work for everyone, but for the right skin, nothing works better. I am so grateful to have confidence back

Skincare - Face -La Roche Posay - Effaclar A.I.

Yet another amazing product from the Effaclar line available at some Shoppers in Ontario. Nothing clears my breakouts like this, let alone without drying. Finally, acne care for sensitive skin. It can make a menacing-looking pimple turn harmless overnight. I highly recommend this line for sensitive, breakout-prone skin that dries out with typical acne treatments.

Treatments -La Roche Posay - Effaclar K
rated 5 of 5

WOW! This stuff is incredible. It cleared my skin in only a few days, without any dryness. It's magic! My extremely sensitive, acne-prone skin just loves this cream. After almost a year of terrible breakouts (I'm in my 20s!), my skin is finally clearing and feeling moisturized. I highly recommend this for acne-prone skin that tends to get irritated by usual products.UPDATE: I agree with members who say it works amazingly well at first, but then your skin gets accustomed to it. It doesn't work as well for my acne after several months, but it still does a wonderful job of evening skin tone.

Cleansers -La Roche Posay - Effaclar Purifying Gel Cleanser

Love it! My acne-prone skin is so sensitive, even Cetaphil for oily skin causes major dry flakes. I was using purpose, but felt it just wasn't getting the job done. Enter Effaclar. I saw it at my dermatologists office, but couldn't afford the high price tag. Then, I found it at beloved Shoppers Drug Mart for a much more reasonable rate. Great for sensitive, acne-prone skin! UPDATE: stopped working so well after a while, so I switched to Marcelle Gentle Foaming Cleanser

Liquid -Prescriptives - Virtual Skin

Yet another amazing Prescriptives product. Px has changed my skin and gives me confidence back- nothing comes close! The color selection is amazing (I'm cream). I'm pale yellowish, but most companies have such pink foundations, so you have to pick the palest one and look like a ghost! In this case, the shade matches me perfectly and doesn't wash me out. It looks really natural on, and manages to cover minor blemishes pretty well. I use my fingers to apply, since the usual brush doesn't work as well with this foundation. It lasts well too, like most Px foundations... never settling into lines, migrating with oil, or getting patchy. It's my HG for good skin days! UPDATE: BEST foundation I've ever used and I've tried lots. Now I'm using it on bad days too, since I discovered it layers well. The more I wear it and test it on long days, the more I'm in love. It really holds up. Flawless Skin broke me out after a while, this never does. My ultimate HG!

Liquid -Prescriptives - Virtual Youth
rated 5 of 5

Although I'm 25 and have a very oily t-zone, this foundation works amazingly well. It glides on, looking dewy and great all day and oddly makes me less oily than most foundations I've tried. I loved Flawless Skin until it broke me out, but I like this even better. It looks more natural. It REALLY lasts, doesn't settle into lines, has a great colour selection, and doesn't irritate my skin.

Foundations -Unlisted Brand - Dermacia - Lycogel [DISCONTINUED]
rated 2 of 5
psmitty 9/29/2006 11:23:00 PM

Yuck! This almost $60 foundation is inferior to my cheapest drugstore brand. It is really hard to spread and manages to look cakey, greasy and dry all at once after a few hours. It settled into my smile lines and did not last like the advertisements claim. Plus, the shades seem suspiciously made so you have to blend them and spend even more. I'm so pale, most companies don't make shades for me- the ivory shade was so white, I looked like a mime, but the next shade, cream, was so dark! Definitely a waste of money- I'm sending it back!

Moisturizers -Stila - Petal Infusions Moisturizer Hydratant for Oily Skin
rated 5 of 5
psmitty 9/29/2006 11:20:00 PM

This is a great moisturizer for oily skin! It is light, controls oil better than any oily skin moisturizer and smells amazing. It does have lemon and bergamot oil in it, but I did a little internet research and found that those oils are often used to treat acne- not "bad" oils. It's definitely too light if you have dry skin, or even on those bitter winter days. But for summer days, or if your skin isn't dry, this moisturizer makes your skin so smooth and soft and really cuts down the oil. It doesn't break me out either

Foundations -Stila - Natural Finish Oil Free Makeup
rated 4 of 5
psmitty 9/26/2006 7:12:00 PM

I really like this foundation except for wearability. The shades are amazing- I have the palest shade and it fits me perfectly. I'm extremely pale with yellow undertones and this is just right. I use the technique the amazing Stila rep showed me: I pour a bit on the back of my hand, then make a dabbing motion with my finger all over my face (make sure its uniform). Finishing it off with a setting powder is a MUST or this stuff will slide off. It doesn't have great lasting power, but HURRAY for Stila for making light enough shades!

Powder -Marcelle - Pressed Powder
rated 5 of 5
psmitty 9/5/2006 10:38:00 AM

Amazing product! I've tried many different pressed powders over the years and this one is by far my favourite. The translucent formula gets rid of shine effectively without adding an unnatural chalky or monochromatic look. For those hot summer days, I blot first with Tea Tree Oil Blotting Tissues from the Body Shop, then follow it up with this product. Even after a long, exhausting bike-ride date on a very humid day, this combo made me look like I hadn't even broken a sweat. Highly recommended!

Crème -Marcelle - Dual Cream to Powder Make-Up
rated 5 of 5
psmitty 9/5/2006 10:21:00 AM

I've been using this product for a few years now and find that it's great for my oily, sensitive skin. It's hypoallergenic, oil-free, perfume-free and goes on smoothly. If your goal is a natural look and your makeup routine is fairly quick and low-maintenence, this product is ideal. It's easy to apply and evens out the skin tone nicely. If you're looking to cover scars and blemishes, however, this product is probably too light for you. Other reviews mentioned that the product occasionally collects in creases- I've found this, too, but the problem is easily remedied by lightly dabbing creases with a tissue after application.

Blush -Maybelline - Dream mousse blush in soft plum [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
psmitty 9/5/2006 10:09:00 AM

Great product! This blush gives a very gentle and natural-looking glow. I have pale skin and it's one of the few products I've found that blends in nicely with my skin tone without having an obvious shimmer or unnatural matte effect. The mousse texture is nice and easly to blend, but I agree that the glass jar is both unhygenic and awkward. If Maybelline could find a better way to package this product, I'd give it five stars, hands down.

Moisturizers -Prescriptives - All You Need Moisturizer for Oily Skin
rated 3 of 5
psmitty 9/4/2006 1:12:00 PM

This is not a good moisturizer to use in conjuction with foundation for me. It seems to gather in patches and "ball" off my face like a heavy acne cream would. It makes even long-lasting foundations wear off and flake throughout the day. I love the smell and the packaging, but for the price, it really wasn't worth it. It didn't control oil, didn't moisturize my skin, and came right off. I switched to Marcelle Aquarelle moisturizer and it works way better- not to mention is half the price!

Moisturizers -Marcelle - Aquarelle Aqua-Matte Hydrating Fluid
rated 5 of 5

Fantastic moisturizer! My dermatologist recommended it about 8 years ago and I've been using it ever since. It's light, has a neutral scent and has really helped my acne-prone skin. It's perfect for the summer, but I find that I need to pair it with a heavier moisturizer in the evenings to fight off dry winter skin.
