Lip Gloss -Pout - Pop My Bubble
sharopooks 5/27/2004 4:47:00 PM
I ADORE this lipgloss! The pink "color" is barely even noticeable on me (I'm an Asian MMM), but the shine is show-stopping. It just feels nice and makes my lips very pretty and really shiny. There is no fun flavor or fragrance here, but this is glossier and shinier than most other glosses, maybe a little thicker and longer lasting too. The cap sometimes easily unscrews, so be sure it's on tight when you travel with this. I love this stuff and carry with me almost constantly. I can slip this on without using a mirror and it's a foolproof way to touch up and spruce up my look. And pretty over lipsticks too. I'm such an addict that I often layer this over other so-called "gloss lipsticks" so that I can have better shine. This lipgloss has SPOILED ME ROTTEN in the glassy, high-impact shine department!

Lotions/ Creams -Neutrogena - Norwegian Formula Hand Cream
sharopooks 5/27/2004 4:36:00 PM
What's that slogan from the old liquor ad campaign where they have a product, then list a bunch of fad versions of that product over the years and then they show the first tried and true product again? "You always come back to the basics." A classic hand cream that softens hands, feet, lips, wherever you need extra assistance. In an ideal world, this would take a tad less time to be absorbed (but in an ideal world, I'm 10 pounds lighter, so go figure). Good stuff here!

Shampoo -Alterna - Hemp Seed Shine Shampoo
sharopooks 5/27/2004 4:26:00 PM
My office received a free box of these (why, I have no idea, we're an entertainment law firm). Works fine, cleans well, not particularly conditioning but not drying either. It's just a good shampoo that does what it's supposed to, my hair is all right after using this, though some more moisturizing for my chemically treated hair would have been nice. Has a cherry Jell-o fragrance (like when you make it the old fashioned way from the box, after you start stirring in the hot water). After looking up the prices (about $15), I don't intend to purchase, but I'm enjoying finishing the bottle

Misc Beauty Tools -Paul & Joe - Blotting Papers
sharopooks 5/27/2004 3:41:00 PM
Everyone recommended blotting papers for my upcoming June wedding, so I splurged and bought this because of the CUTEcutecute compact with dispenser! As we are having a Caribbean wedding, I just wanted to avoid all international-travel-hassle that carrying around a somewhat suspicious-looking blotting-paper-roller may invite due to any similiarities with oh, say some OTHER types of paper rolling devices for other rolled-paper uses (heh heh...). Anyway, I must be more a "powder my nose" type chick than I am a blotting paper gal, because after I blot my combination-skin oilies, there is hardly a difference. And sometimes I still want a dash of powder... maybe only the truly oily can appreciate these? I ended up returning this but I was conflicted, because that compact is so adorable!

Foundations -Too Faced - Too Faced Blenders
sharopooks 5/27/2004 12:23:00 PM
This is the foundation I am using for my June wedding. I had gone through a couple of drugstore foundations (didn't like coverage or finish or didn't find color match) and a couple of high end ones (did find color matches but didn't like finish, coverage or light-reflecting titanium dioxide was too main of an ingredient) and I found this. The 4 1/2 shade matches me perfectly and the darker 4 shade is great to have because we're having a destination wedding and I may get a little tan prior to the ceremony (I'm an MMM who tans too easily into a GGG, and I don't want to be too dark before the wedding). Having the 2 shades to blend for accuracy is such a good idea! It took me a while to warm up to this foundation; I'm not used to stick foundations and though I love its portability, somehow I was always applying too little or too much. Against most of the advice that finger application helps warm stick foundation (and I am clueless with a foundation brush), I finally used a sponge and got closer to the coverage and finish results I wanted. UPDATE - Several months after I wrote this, I tried this foundation with a foundation blush and all I have to say is WOW! Flawless, light (you have to go over blemishes or circles with a concealer) and all around FABULOUS! I love this more than ever! (If you want heavier coverage, stick with sponge application). Not quite an HG for me - yet - but close.

Treatments -Clean & Clear - Persagel 10
sharopooks 5/27/2004 11:22:00 AM
This is the best thing I found so far for the occasional breakout. Almost as effective as toothpaste, (which would eliminate my pimples overnight but at the price of drying the surrounding areas like crazy), and not as damaging. I've used drugstore brands of 10% benzoyl peroxide and they don't do it like this does.

Moisturizers -Clarins - Normalizing Night Gel
sharopooks 5/27/2004 11:15:00 AM
I LOVE this night gel. It is refreshing night moisture for my combination skin. It does not work on some of the colder days, as my checks get superdry then, but I'll just use a more concentrated moisturizer on dry spots when that happens. Overall, this is so nice compared to all the heavy, greasy night formulas out there. Worth the expense to me.

Cleansers -Clarins - Cleansing Milk for oily to normal
sharopooks 5/27/2004 9:53:00 AM
Great cleansing milk for my combination skin. As with all cleansing milks, you don't get that "squeaky" clean feeling you get with sudsier (but sometimes harsher) cleansers, you get that gentle cleansing that leaves your skin feeling fresh but not stripped. My face also ends up feeling and looking softer. This is my cleanser choice for the fall and winter seasons when I need something milder than my Liquid Neutrogena.

Cleansers -Neutrogena - Liquid Neutrogena Facial Cleansing Formula
sharopooks 5/26/2004 6:30:00 PM
Really wonderful cleanser that I've used for years. Gentle yet thorough cleaning, good rinsibility, usually leaves skin soft. I say "usually" because this can be drying to me as a daily cleanser during the colder months. Also, if you travel with the pump, you may get that "pump damage" where the pump doesn't work anymore and you have to open it up. Otherwise, a solid cleanser, and a drugstore one at that.

Eye Primer -Clinique - Touch Base for Eyes - Buff Lighting
sharopooks 5/26/2004 5:04:00 PM
I was told this would make a great eyeshadow base, so I tried this out for that use. Dismal results...I get better results just using Aveda concealer on my lids. Nice as an eyeshadow by itself I suppose (shimmery beige) but even if I didn't already have that shade covered in my collection, I didn't love this shadow enough to keep. I returned this.

Toners -Clarins - Toning Lotion (Alcohol Free) All
sharopooks 5/26/2004 4:24:00 PM
Wonderful toner. This doesn't dry, smells nice, cleans well while still being gentle. It really feels refreshing and that feeling is translated through my skin's fresh and smooth appearance after using this. Yes, this is pricey but I have been dried out by drugstores brands that I really trust, so this is worth purchasing again in the future when I run out.

Toners -Neutrogena - Deep Clean Oil-Free Astringent
sharopooks 5/26/2004 4:16:00 PM
I trust the Neutrogena name so much and usually like their products, so it pains me to say, this stuff really, really dried out my combination skin. The two times I tried this out in the last few months were followed by about a week of really tight skin (the kind that lines up when you smile). It felt so good when I was using it, but I can't wait a week after each time I use this for my skin to normalize. I have found a use for this toner, however, I use it to make sure there are no traces of lotion left on my toes before I polish them during an at-home pedicure.

Treatments -Christian Dior - NoAge Essentiel Age-Defense Renewal Serum
sharopooks 5/26/2004 3:55:00 PM
This is a great serum, which I am beginning to love as much as, or more than, Clarins Total Double Serum. Where as the Clarins serum goes on initially a little oily, this goes on non-oily and smooth. It absorbs quickly, so I don't have to wait for this to sink in before I apply moisturizer. Really makes a visible difference on my face. It's perfumey, which I'm not nuts about. I would purchase this again.

Treatments -Clarins - Total Double Serum multi-Regenerant Age Control Extra-Firming Serum
sharopooks 5/26/2004 2:27:00 PM
My skin has notably improved since I started using this after a Clarins facial. It does feel a little oily going on underneath my moisturizer during the day (I use it every other day), but it's worth it to get the visibly smooth look and feel. Have also had great results using it at night too. I LOVE THIS SERUM. Worth the (US $80) price tag! UPDATE - I'm torn. I've used several samples of Wei East's Youth Recaptured Serum and it's wonderful, less slick and not as expen$ive as this. Maybe I'll use Total Double Serum for the colder months and switch to the newly discovered Youth Recaptured for warmer months...there's room enough in this town for two great serums. :)

Lipstick -Sephora - Gloss lipstick
sharopooks 5/26/2004 2:20:00 PM
These are quite nice! I have 525 ("brown shimmer"), but it's more pinky-brown with my medium olive skin. Adds a lovely bronzey-melon glaze when used over a red lipcolour. Goes on smooth, love the fruit scent, and moisturizing. Not what you'd call long lasting, but what glossy lipstick is? It's still fun to reapply often for foolproof, subtle color and shine. Great colors and price too.
