Lotions/ Creams -Aveeno - Daily Moisturizing Lotion
rated 4 of 5
1MegMeg 3/5/2003 12:29:00 PM

I had a $3 off any body lotion coupon for CVS so I decided to try the Aveeno Lotion. In my opinion, it does not have a scent, which is nice. If I want to wear perfume I can and I won't have a mingling of different scents. The lotion spread smoothly and sunk in quite nicely. I can still feel its moisturizing effects, yet it is not greasy at all. Additionally, it does not get greasy on me if I get warm. I live in Florida and have had a number of lotions get slimy and greasy on my skin later in the afternoon if I get warm. Overall, I think this is one of the better drugstore lotions I have tried. The oatmeal is soothing, the lotion is somewhat thick and moisturizing, yet not greasy at all. A definite thumbs up!

Treatments -Frederic Fekkai - Hair Mask with Shea Butter
rated 5 of 5
1MegMeg 3/5/2003 12:18:00 PM

UPDATE: Upon extended use, this became too heavy for my hair. It did leave it moisturized, but in a very sticky/greasy way, which was compounded (in a bad way) by the Florida humidity. I am now using the FF protein treatment mask, which I am much happier with.

I used the hair mask this morning in the shower, for the first time, as I immediately saw an improvement in my hair. My hair is softer, silker, less frizzy, and the ends aren't as dry feeling or looking. The directions say to leave the on for 20 minutes. I only left it on for 10-15 minutes and I still saw a vast improvement in my hair. Although the consistency of the hair mask is very thick, the mask didn't weigh my hair down or make it greasy (I have naturally wavy fine & thin hair that gets blown out straight 3x/week).

Lip Gloss -Maybelline - Wet Shine Diamonds Liquid in Pink Diamonds
rated 4 of 5
1MegMeg 3/4/2003 6:34:00 PM

I had a coupon for a free Wet Shine Diamonds liquid so I trekked over to CVS to investigate. When I first saw pink diamonds I thought the color name was a misprint because, personally, I don't think it looks very pink at all. It is a gorgeous mocha with a tinge of plum undertone on my neutral PPP skin. The consistency is nice, not too thick or sticky. I never thought I would say this, but sadly, I think the WSD Liquid has too much glitter/shimmer. On me, this color was VERY sparkly. The color is a great work color, but definitely too much sparkle for my conservative work environment. This will be reserved for non-work time.

Gels/Soaps -Laura Mercier - Tarte au Citron body wash
rated 3 of 5

I received this as part of the free gifts for the Neiman Marcus Beauty Event. The scent is delicious and the wash leaves your skin soft and velvety smooth. However, I think $38 is just too much to spend for an 8 ounce bottle of body wash, so I will not be repurchasing this. I think there are other body washes out there that have a nice scent and nice moisterizing and cleansing properties. If you enjoy the scent of this but are looking for something less expensive try Bath and Body Works' Citrus Cream. I think it smells quite similar.

Lip Gloss -Chanel - Jelly Glossimer
rated 5 of 5
1MegMeg 3/4/2003 9:29:00 AM

Jelly is a beautiful deep wine color. Fully applied it is definitely too dark for work, but if I blot it, it leaves a gorgeous berry stain. This color looks great on my PPP neutral-toned skin, especially with muted eye makeup. Jelly is definitely for those who like deep berry colors. The consistency is think, yet it is not sticky at all. The staying power is unbelievable. While $24 is a bit pricey for a lip gloss, you get a fabulous product.

Lip Gloss -Laura Mercier - Lip Glace in Pink Beige
rated 4 of 5
1MegMeg 3/4/2003 8:45:00 AM

I got this as a free gift from the Neiman Marcus Beauty event. I probably wouldn't have purchased this color on my own, but I am glad it came in the gift set because I love it. The color is a nice pink color - not too bubble gum-y or too peach, just a nice pink to add some brightness to my lips. The consistency is thick, yet it is not sticky like MAC lipglass.

Liquid -Lancome - Adaptive [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
1MegMeg 2/22/2003 3:49:00 PM

I had never worn foundation before purchasing this. Previously, I was using Clinique's City Block SPF 15, which is similar to a very sheer foundation. I wanted something new because the City Block seemed to be really accentuating my oily areas, and I just wasn't that impressed with it, in general. I purchased the Adaptive in Balanced Creme 0 [yes, I am an extremely PPP girl :)] and I love it. It is very sheer, goes on smooth and even, and controls my oil very well. Additionally, it has SPF 10. If you want a lot of coverage, this is probably not the foundation for you. But if you are looking for something sheer, and have normal-to-oily skin, this is wonderful!

Styling Products -TiGi - Bed Head Control Freak Serum
rated 2 of 5
1MegMeg 2/12/2003 1:28:00 PM

I did not like this product at all. It left my hair dry looking, but greasy feeling. Not nice. Additionally, it did not really make my hair any straighter, shinier, or less frizzy than before. Ihad high hopes for this stuff because it is a pretty blue glittery color, but it just didn't work for me.

Skincare - Body -Johnson & Johnson - Head to Toe baby wash
rated 5 of 5
1MegMeg 2/11/2003 8:26:00 PM

UPDATE June 2003: Still loving this face wash. I have occasionally thought about trying some highly recommended higher end brands, but then I think...why? Head-to-toe is amazing, it works great, and it's CHEAP! Will continue to repurchase.

At less than $4.00 for a huge pump bottle, this product is awesome! Head-to-toe baby wash definitely rivals some of the extremelly high-end cleansers that I have used. This products leaves my skin smooth, soft, clean, and acne-free. My skin does not feel dry or taut after washing it, nor does it feel sticky. Additionally, I can remove my eye makeup with it and it is extremelly gentle to my eyes. I highly recommend this cleanser to anyone with normal to oily skin. Because it is formulated for a baby's skin, head-to-toe body wash is exceptionally gentle.

Lip Gloss -Clinique - glosswear for lips
rated 4 of 5
1MegMeg 2/1/2003 2:07:00 PM

I wish I could combine qualities from Glosswear for Lips and MAC's lipglass. I love Clinique's Glosswear for lips. It gives you tinted color & nice shiny lips without being too sticky (MAC's lipglass is very sticky). However, glosswear for lips has this aweful plastic taste, I wish it was vanilla-y like MAC's lipglass. The taste isn't that horrid, and I love the colors, so I don't let it get to me. :)

Lipstick -Clinique - Almost Lipstick in Ruby Melt
rated 5 of 5
1MegMeg 2/1/2003 2:03:00 PM

This is my favorite red lipgloss (it's sheer so I don't really call it a lipstick). It is a nice true red and does not look too orange or pink on my skin. Since it is a sheer lipstick it gives your a gorgeous red hue without being too bright. I will definitely repurchase this.

Gels/Soaps -Bath and Body Works - Glycerin Soaps (all)
rated 2 of 5
1MegMeg 2/1/2003 2:00:00 PM

I love the scents that BBW offers, however, these soaps don't last long at all. They seem to disintegrate very quickly in the shower. The Body Shop's glycerin soaps are much better, in my opinion.

Eyeliner -MAC - All Eye Kohls
rated 5 of 5
1MegMeg 2/1/2003 1:55:00 PM

MAC eye kohls are great. They go on smooth (no tugging on your eyelid) and stay on all day, however, it comes off easily with eye makeup remover. The color selection is great and the price is on the low end of department store brands. Also, they seem to last forever. My favorite one is powersurge and I wear it at least a few times a week. I have had it probably over a year and there is still around 3 inches left.

Lipstick -LORAC - Melina Celebrity Lipstick
rated 5 of 5
1MegMeg 1/29/2003 2:20:00 PM

UPDATE: Still loving Melina lipstick; a very verastile plum shade. So glad I purchased.

I enjoy lip gloss much more than lipstick, but I loved the color of this so much, I decided to give it a whirl. Melina is a beautiful medium plum shade. It looks great on - not too purple, pink, or red...just right. :) The texture is smooth and creamy. It stays on well and doesn't dry out my lips. At $17.50, it is a little pricey, but I love it and finding a good lipstick is priceless! :)

Gels/Soaps -The Body Shop - Glycerin Soaps - various scents
rated 5 of 5
1MegMeg 1/21/2003 2:59:00 PM

I love these soaps! At 6 for $12 they are slightly pricey, but not too bad. I am a shower gel girl, but every so often I just like to use a bar of soap. These have a wonderufl scent, rinse clean, and do not leave your skin dry. I tried the glycerin soaps at Bath and Body Works and, oddly, they seemed to dissolve quite rapidly in the shower (a bar lasted a week!). The Body Shop Glycerin soaps are definitely the way to go.
