Mascara -L'Oreal - Le Grande Curl

This came highly recommended, so I was disappointed when it was clumpy, without any discernible curling properties. Pricey for a drugstore mascara. There are many better, cheaper drugstore mascaras. Give this one a miss.

Lip Treatments -Smith's Rosebud Salve - Smith's Rosebud Salve

I think it's so funny that other people got their Rosebud Salve at Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters--I got mine at an Amish grocery store! I guess it's one of the few vanities the Amish are allowed. Anyway, this is an incredible lip balm, and I love the old-fashioned smell and packaging. It's a big tin and lasts forever--a great product at a great value.

Treatments -Biore - Pore Cleansing Strips - Nose
rated 2 of 5

I was so excited when these came out that I bought them right away. Okay, they work somewhat, but you've got to keep using them over and over, and that just increases the risk of broken capillaries! I think there are safer, more effective ways of removing blackheads than using these strips. Retin-A Micro works wonders (by prescription, of course).

Lip Treatments -Burt's Bees - Beeswax Lip Balm
rated 2 of 5

I bought this in the tin, and wish I'd bought the tube. It's so waxy and hard to get any on your finger to apply to your lips. It does tingle pleasantly, but that wears off soon, and it doesn't really moisturize that much. I have to constantly reapply it, and that's a drag.

Cleansers -Cetaphil - Gentle Skin Cleanser
rated 5 of 5
sugarbomb 3/28/2003 1:12:00 PM

I have combination skin--very oily and acne prone in the T-zone, dryish everywhere else. My dermatologist recommended Cetaphil, and I find it works perfectly --it's neither oily nor drying. Other products irritated my skin, but this leaves my skin soft. It's a great value, too.

Fragrances -Chanel - No.5
rated 5 of 5
sugarbomb 3/28/2003 12:47:00 PM

I wa surprised to read that people think this is an "older" or "mature" scent. I've worn it since high school, and it's one of my favorites. Maybe there has been so much hype about it that there is a backlash against it, as there is against so many popular things. I think it's a warm, rich scent, not powdery at all. I only wear it at night though--it's a bit much for daytime in my opinion.

Fragrances -Christian Dior - Diorissimo
rated 5 of 5

My mother wore Diorissimo when she was a teenager in the 50's-60's, and she introduced me to it. I love it--it's delicate and feminine and flowery without being cloying. I think it's a perfect daytime scent, particularly in spring and summer. No one else I know wears it--I don't smell myself coming and going, which is more than one can say for those Estee Lauder and Clinique perfumes. This has been around for quite some time, and it's got staying power, I think. A totally classic scent. Plus, men really seem to like it--I often get compliments.

Mascara -Lancome - Magnificils Black Mascara
rated 4 of 5
sugarbomb 3/28/2003 12:30:00 PM

I love this mascara! The best I've ever used. It thickens, lengthens and curls all at once, without clumping. It is pricey, but so much superior to anything else I've used that I just gulp and buy it anyway.

Gels/Soaps -Neutrogena - Rainbath Shower Gel
rated 5 of 5
sugarbomb 3/28/2003 10:02:00 AM

I first tried this at a friend's house, and became hooked. It has a wonderful spicy scent. (original formula) Some might say it's a unisex scent, but I prefer that to overly flowery smells. I like to use it in the bath before I go to bed, because the aroma really lingers on your skin.

Lipstick -Cover Girl - Outlast
rated 4 of 5

I have mixed feelings about this lipstick. It is drying, so you have to constantly reapply the gloss throughout the day. WIth that said, the color does stay on for the whole day. I bought Dawn til Dusk, and it's a very pretty pink shade. The pigment does have a chemically smell, but once on your lips it disappears. I haven't noticed a smell to the gloss at all.

Eye Shadow -L'Oreal - On the Loose Shimmering Powders [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
sugarbomb 3/27/2003 5:45:00 PM

I have this in Mystified, and love the color--shimmery pale pink. However, apply sparingly, otherwise you'll get that frosted 80's look. I noticed some people complained that it spilled onto their cheeks, but if you're going out for a night on the town, a little bit of Mystified on the cheekbones, collarbones, shoulders, or decolletage adds some shimmer without being glittery like those awful gels.

Brows -Maybelline - Brow Styling Gel [DISCONTINUED]
rated 2 of 5
sugarbomb 3/27/2003 5:37:00 PM

I must be doing something wrong--everyone else raves about this product, but I put the clear version on before breakfast, and right after breakfast my brows are just as higgledy-piggledy as they were before! (And my brows are not particularly difficult.) I also think it tends to clump in the brows and leave shiny spots.

Shampoo -Clairol - Herbal Essences Shampoo (Normal Hair)
rated 2 of 5
sugarbomb 3/27/2003 5:25:00 PM

I know there's a lot of love for this shampoo, but can I just say ew?! The smell is so strong and artificial. In terms of cleansing action I think this is perfectly fine, but I don't want people to smell my shampoo before I walk into the room.

Blush -Clinique - Soft-Pressed Powder Blusher in Honey Blush
rated 5 of 5
sugarbomb 3/27/2003 5:20:00 PM

My mom pawned this blush off on me because it didn't look right with her olive skin, but on my complexion (fair with pink undertones) it looks completely natural--a combination of pink and peach. I don't usually like powder blushes, but this one is great!

Lipstick -Clinique - Different Lipstick - Mauve Crystal
rated 4 of 5
sugarbomb 3/27/2003 5:12:00 PM

This was the first lipstick I got, in the sixth grade. It's nice for young girls, because it adds sparkle and shimmer without a ton of color. I must admit though, that more than a decade later I still like this shade when I want a sheer, natural lip color with a hint of dazzle.
