Eye Shadow -Physicians Formula - organic wear eyeshadow duo
MissBrittanyM 5/15/2009 4:25:00 PM
I picked this up at CVS in the clearance bin for 20 cents. Yes, you read that right! I got the duo that has a medium brown and a taupey nude, and I got 3 more matching ones for my sisters. I have to say I was quite impressed with the color payoff and texture. The wear is not anything out of the ordinary, but these shadows go on smoothly and are true to color.
I picked up 2 of these lip veils at CVS in the clearance bin. There were only 2, in Rose and Plum, and I figured I would give them a shot since they were so cheap. Boy, do I regret it! Not only did it smell like a cheap crayon, it felt like that was what I was rubbing on my lips- dry, cheap wax that left no color. I realize it was a "lip veil" but this gave me nothing but the feeling of chapped lips. Both are going back soon.
Eye Shadow -Avon - True Color Eyeshadow Quad in Mocha Latte
MissBrittanyM 5/15/2009 4:07:00 PM
Mocha Latte is the replacement for the Cocoa Glow quad of the past. Avon has repackaged, renamed, and quite possibly reformulated their shadow quads, and I have to say I am impressed. The packaging leaves something to be desired, as it can be difficult to open, but that is my only complaint. Avon includes a paint-by-number pic on the back of the compact for beauty novices, but I find the shades are most flattering on me with some tweaking. I use the lightest shade (nude shimmer) under the brow, the next darker (matte taupe) in the crease, the third darker (bronze shimmer) on the lid, and the darkest (matte brown) as liner. This almost creates a sunset effect, and looks great in contrast to my blue-grey eyes. The pigmentation and wear is better than I expected, but not quite comparable to MAC or HIP.
Primer/ Corrector -Avon - Magix Tinted Face Perfector
MissBrittanyM 5/15/2009 3:59:00 PM
I wanted to love this, I really did. I have not even thought about other primers since Avon came out with MagiX, and when I saw the tinted versions, I had to have it. I didn't expect miracles or lots of coverage, but I did think it would be close to Benefit's "foundation faker", which I like a lot. Unfortunately, it did not work for me at all. I am in between the two lightest shades, which shouldn't be a big concern since this is a super-sheer product, but seeing that the product actually puddles in my average-size pores and accentuates them, I had to send it back. I have heard of others who love it, but it is just not right for me. I'll stick with the clear version in the tube.
Scrubs -Clinique - 7 Day Scrub Cream Rinse Off Formula
MissBrittanyM 3/19/2009 9:58:00 PM
I recieved a full-sized tube of this scrub during a pre-order promo. The scent is unremarkable, and the texture is a fine grain. The scrub does have a warming sensation, and lightly exfoliates without noticeable scratching. I would repurchase this item.
Eye Shadow -L'Oreal - HiP Metallic Duo - Gilded #806
MissBrittanyM 3/19/2009 9:52:00 PM
This shadow duo is highly pigmented and both shades are very shimmery. This is considered a metallic duo, but the darker shade is more a heavy frost. The blackened copper brown and the gold blend nicely, but the shades can be overwhelming on pale skin. Use a light hand and slowly build the color- it will deepen and develop before you know it. The wear is a little longer than average, and the price is on the high end for drugstore lines. I would possibly repurchase the shadow duo in other shades.
Moxie on me is a dirty mauve. I see no shimmer or gold reflect. It is a pretty mauve shade, very flattering on my pale skin. The texture is creamy, but feels dry after a few hours. It has a staining effect, which makes it appear to last longer. The scent is unremarkable, and the price is average.
Eyeliner -Estee Lauder - Eye Defining Pencil - Softsmudge Black 01
MissBrittanyM 3/19/2009 9:44:00 PM
This is a pretty standard black eyeliner. It must be sharpened, and is easily smudged. The black color tends to gray down during the day, but overall the wear is acceptable. I recieved this as part of a large holiday gift set, and otherwise would not purchase.
This is a pretty standard brow/lash comb. The price is affordable, and the brush end is one of the nicer ones I have tried. The comb is unremarkable. Overall, a nice inexpensive brush to keep on hand just for taming the brows.
Makeup Brushes -Essence of Beauty - Control Powder Brush
MissBrittanyM 3/19/2009 9:37:00 PM
I love this brush for blush contouring! Dense but soft, it gives perfectly controlled application. I have not had the problems with shedding that others mentioned. I use this brush daily and would absolutely repurchase.
Eye Shadow -Bourjois - Wet/Dry Eyeshadow - Kaki Etonnant 70
MissBrittanyM 2/17/2009 9:34:00 PM
This is a pretty shimmery khaki shade, and the pan comes with a surprisingly large amount of product. The color looks great wet or dry. It blends as well as most other baked shadows, and wears slightly longer than most. The applicator is not necessary in my opinion, and gets messy sitting directly on top of the powder. The packaging is a little difficult to open. Overall, a decent product.
Lip Gloss -Bourjois - Effet 3D - 4 Rose Emblematic
MissBrittanyM 2/17/2009 9:28:00 PM
I believe this gloss is now discontinued. It is a frosty, metallic pink with gold shimmer, nearly identical to the much cheaper NYC Sungold Pink. The scent is tolerable, and the wear is a little longer than the average gloss. I will not rebuy only because of the lack of availability.
Lip Liners -Estee Lauder - Artist Lip Pencil 08 Spice Writer
MissBrittanyM 12/27/2008 10:31:00 PM
Spice is a slightly warm neutral lip liner, just a bit too orange for my NW15 complexion. I got it as a gift, and would have never picked it for myself, although it looks fabulous on many women I know. The best way for me to wear this lip liner is to apply it lightly over a fresh coat of balm, so that the look is more natural and soft. It wears well and does not bleed or splotch with normal use.
I bought this gloss in Hot Coral about a year ago. The color is very pretty on, almost pearlescent. However, the gloss wears off very quickly, and does not have pleasant smell. In addition, the tube has slightly too large a hole, and too much product escapes when used.
I got this shampoo half price at the salon, and really like it. The smell is great, and it does indeed normalize my very oily hair. A little goes a long way. I would repurchase again if it were in my price range, but, as it is, I will watch for it to go on sale.
