Polishes -Wet 'n' Wild - 424 Black Creme
oceansgurlie 2/19/2008 8:15:00 PM
this is the first black that i've ever bought and i'm hoping that there are better ones out there because this one really disappointed me. it always goes on either too thick and refuses to dry or too thin with all these patches and streaks. i'm not so sure if it's the formula to blame or if it's the too-thin brush that doesn't allow the polish to go on smoothly in a few strokes. i took off a lippy for the lousy brush and another one because this polish peeled in less than 24 hours. i'm going to stick with it and finish the bottle since i only use it for layering but once it's gone i'll be on the hunt for a better brand.

Polishes -MAC - Twink Pink
oceansgurlie 2/14/2008 4:48:00 PM
I'm kinda on the fence whether I would really buy this one again or not. The color is a pink frost that comes out really light with one coat and I think it might actually look great on a french manicure but I haven't tried it yet so I'm not sure. I loved the bottle and the brush is excellent! It was the perfect shape and width to get the polish to spread evenly without any streaks and I also l also loved the shape and width of the rubber cap. I actually loved the packaging of this polish way better than the ones from OPI. The color wasn't extraordinary though and I felt like I could probably get it cheaper through any drugstore line. I think that the only reason why I would repurchase is because of the great packaging but it's a pretty penny to spend just for the great brush. I took off a lippie for the price and another one for the unextraordinary color.

Cleansers -St. Ives - Makeup Remover & Facial Cleanser (all skin types)
oceansgurlie 2/13/2008 1:58:00 PM
I used to use this a while back a few times out of the week when I was too lazy to go through my whole proactiv regimen. Just a week ago, I stopped using proactiv and switched to this completely, thinking that I'll be able to save money this way but what a mistake! I'm now getting red bumps and pimples all over my face, even on my eyelids which is something that I never had before. I actually thought that this cleanser would be great because it's so gentle and I have a tendency to get dry and flaky near my jaw but I guess it wasn't good enough at cleaning off the other areas of my skin. Just like what most of the other people said, it did nothing in terms of taking my makeup off and I actually thought that every other facial product that I have used did a way better job than this one. I guess it's better to get a stronger cleanser that will actually clean out my pores and then pair it with a good moisturizer.

Top/Base Coats -New York Color - Extra Shiny Top Coat
oceansgurlie 2/11/2008 12:48:00 AM
I painted my nails this morning using this as a top coat and then I took a shower this afternoon and to my amazement, there were absolutely no chips! I painted my nails with a really cheapy nail polish that always chips immediately but it's still completely intact and it's all thanks to this topcoat! It's probably because I have the old formula that contains formaldehyde so I'm actually torn if it's really safe for me to be using this or not but still, I'm really impressed! My nails are super shiny almost like they're still wet and the polish feels really solid and locked in like it'll last forever! I did notice though that when I was painting the topcoat on over my red polish, there was a lot of red that ended up on the brush. My polish was too dark on my nails for me to be able to tell if it was dragging the polish or not but the way that the brush was so red when I was done makes me think that it must have been dragging. *edit* It's been a few days and my nail polish is still going strong with absolutely no chipping! Maybe formaldehyde is the necessary ingredient to making polish last??? Still seems kinda scary though so I'm still undecided if it's worth the risk to my health

Lotions/ Creams -Bath and Body Works - Body Cream - Gardenia
oceansgurlie 2/8/2008 6:33:00 PM
I hate to be the one to bring down the reviews but I think as a lotion, this product doesn't really do what it's supposed to. The fragrance is heavenly but no matter how much I apply, my the top of my hands still crack and bleed where my knuckles are. I work in an air-conditioned office where the air is pretty dry but still, I find that there's not much of a difference whether I use this lotion or not. I'll use this one up until it's gone but only for the smell. After that, I'll look for something else that actually does it's job of moisturizing.

Polishes -Sally Hansen - Teflon Tuff
oceansgurlie 2/7/2008 12:51:00 AM
I have this nail polish in rose opal and I love it! It's super super sheer so it doesn't look so great by itself but it was really beautiful as the pink color of a french manicure. Although others have had problems with chipping, I actually found that this nail polish lasts a lot longer than others that I've tried and I was really impressed that I didn't have any chipping for several days. I'm looking forward to trying other Sally Hansen polishes.

Eye Shadow -Pop Beauty - Eye Cake - Brown Eyes
oceansgurlie 1/31/2008 4:55:00 PM
Although I actually do like the metal tin that these eyeshadows come in, I hate the way that they're all packed in together. Each strip is so narrow that it's hard to get each individual color out so I figured that maybe it's meant to be used mixed all together. So I swept my eyeshadow brush across the whole thing and applied that as my eyeshadow. Although the effect came out ok, it turned into a gray which didn't look all that attractive. I haven't tried using each color seperately yet so I guess I can't really make much of a judgement. Having all of the colors stuck together though was enough to annoy me so that I won't be purchasing this again.

Mascara -Maybelline - Lash Stylist Mascara ] [DISCONTINUED]
oceansgurlie 1/30/2008 6:20:00 PM
I loved the idea of using a comb to put on my mascara and I really thought that it would be impossible to have any problems with clumping. However, I found that it still did clump and it took a lot of concentration to make sure that I didn't end up with spikes of eyelashes. It didn't do anything for curling and even though I curled my eyelashes very thoroughly before applying, it seemed to just weigh them down and actually made them sag. The main reason why I stopped using it was because I hated the way that it was supposed to be washable but it was actually difficult to remove and left black smudges and flakes around my eyes.

Mascara -Almay - intense i-color volumizing mascara - purple amethyst
oceansgurlie 1/30/2008 6:06:00 PM
I did like this mascara at first and kept on re-buying it until I realized that if I invested the money in a higher end product, I won't have to keep replacing it every few months. I loved the way that the color of this mascara didn't give me a scary heavy look the way that black does. I actually found the brush to be ok and the mascara did go on evenly when it was new. Unfortunately, after about a month or two, it would end up clumping my eyelashes for some reason and I would end up buying another one. I started using a high end mascara also in purple and it's been 7 months so far with no problems so I won't be purchasing this almay one again.

Eye Shadow -Almay - Intense i-Color powder shadow Trio for Browns
oceansgurlie 1/30/2008 5:59:00 PM
Although this product didn't really make my brown eyes "pop" like it said it would, i was still a really nice eyeshadow set. It was really smooth and application went on really evenly. I liked how it came with directions on how to apply the three colors. The colors were actually really neutral and almost not noticeable so I'm still on the fence whether I would buy it again. If you're trying to achieve that natural, i'm-not-wearing-any-makeup look then this would be a good product.

Eye Shadow -Revlon - Color Stay 12 Hour Eye Shadow- Berry Bloom
oceansgurlie 1/30/2008 4:43:00 PM
For some reason, I didn't like the consistency of this product. For the darker colors, it didn't go on as pigmented as I wanted it to, and then for the lightest pink, it went on too strong and it made my eyelids look like I dumped white powder all over it. I'll continue to use it until I run out but only because I paid for it. After that, I'll look elsewhere for similar colors that will apply better. I did love the sponge applicators that it came with though. I'm glad that it had the double tipped applicator where one side is really skinny for me to use for eyeliner and the wider side for all over color.

Eye Shadow -Revlon - Diamond Lust sheer shadow in Bedroom Bronze
oceansgurlie 1/30/2008 4:18:00 PM
I think I was most attracted to the packaging of this product and the way that it was displayed at the store. All of that, along with the hefty price for a drugstore makeup had me convinced that it must be pretty extraordinary and definitely worth trying. As usual though, I found myself disappointed as I usually am with Revlon. The sparkle came out nothing like it is advertised (am I the only one to trust an advertisement???) and the pigment is only noticeable if you really shove your face up in mine and stare straight at my eyelids. It's almost like having nothing on. I kept thinking that maybe I just chose the wrong color but it's not cheap and I don't want to risk another $10 on a drugstore product that could easily just disappoint me again.

Eye Shadow -Jordana - Eye Shadow- Wine
oceansgurlie 1/30/2008 4:04:00 PM
After reading all of the great reviews, I got excited and rushed out to get this eyeshadow. It did go on very smoothly and was really easy to blend but I don't think that the red tone really matched my skin color well. My main complaint is that it had no staying power! I have oily eyelids and my eyeshadow has a tendency to crease, but this one had completely disappeared into the crease in only an hour! My Dior eyeshadow lasts at least 5 hours before it starts to crease so in this case, I think you get what you pay for. I'm glad that I only paid 99 cents for a product that I've only used once and probably never will again.

Misc Beauty Tools -Shu Uemura - Eyelash Curler
oceansgurlie 1/29/2008 2:37:00 PM
Like with any other overrated product, I find myself being disappointed yet again. After reading all of the great reviews, I figured that this must really be a miracle product since there are so many people out there that weren't bothered by it's hefty price. The fact that I paid so much for it is actually probably the only reason why I hold on to it. I can't go a single morning without it pinching my eyelids and because of the pinching, I can't even put the curler at the base of my eyelashes like I would like to. Instead, I end up with a fold halfway through my lashes. I also hate the way that it doesn't open enough for me to be able to get all of my lashes into it easily. I really wish I hadn't thrown away my former eyelash curler when I bought this new one... :*-(

Eye Shadow -Sephora - colorful mono strass
oceansgurlie 1/29/2008 2:11:00 PM
I bought these at the time that I was into garish, glittery eyeshadows. Now that I've wisened up and learned better, I look at these shadows and ask myself, "WHAT WAS I THINKING?" I agree with others that the glitter is too big and chunky and looks almost like I put craft glitter on my eyelids. It doesn't go on smoothly and flakes all over my eyelashes and I end up with glitter all over my face somehow. This product could have had great potential if only the glitter was a little bit finer. From certain angles when the glitter doesn't sparkle, it kind of just made my eyes look dirty or something. Maybe I'm just a cheapskate but if I'm going to pay $10 for a single eyeshadow, it better be a good one that I can use up till the end and this is not one of them.
