Cleansers -Cetaphil - Gentle Skin Cleanser
gzheng 9/1/2007 8:47:00 PM
This is an awesome cleanser that cleans without stripping. This and Spectro Jel are the only two cleansers that don't leave me with tight, dry skin after washing. I have combo skin leaning on the dry side for my cheeks. As for the cleaning power, since it's gentle, I need to massage it on the face for a longer time around my T zone and that usual does the job well on a regular basis. It even takes out my non-waterproof makeup. When I want an extra boost for cleaning my T-zone, I add some milk powder and/or corn meal to it and use that like a scrub. The milk powder provides a gentle AHA. I don't see the need to spend more money on expensive products when this is perfect for cleansing sans fragrance.

Liquid -Make Up For Ever - Face & Body Foundation
gzheng 9/1/2007 8:36:00 PM
This is currently my HG foundation. It's goes on so smoothly and gives great coverage without looking like I have a thick layer of makeup on. The shade I got matches my skin perfectly. I apply it with a foundation brush from MUF so that it goes on sheer. The gel like texture makes it really attractive even in the summer since I don't feel like it's suffocating my skin. If I feel like going really natural and just want to even out my skin tone a bit, I mix this with cetaphil cream and apply it like a tinted moisturizer. I first coat my brush with the cream, then apply foundation as usual. The only downside is the packaging. The opening is way too big and since the texture is gel like, I often pour out way more than I need (using a foundation brush really minimizes the amount of product needed as opposed to a sponge which soaks up product and thus wastes a lot). But given that this is such a great product, I would definitely repurchase regardless of the packaging.

Moisturizers -Jamieson - Vitamin A Night Renewal Treatment
gzheng 8/9/2007 6:42:00 PM
my skin loves this product. The texture is easy to spread. I put this on at night and wake up with glowing skin the next day. I have combo skin and my cheeks are often really dry. This fixed up the problem really well. I'm hoping this will help some of the red acne marks I have, but I know this will take time. This is not too thick for my slightly oily T zone and having used this nightly for two months, I have never broken out from it. This is a keeper. The packaging is a little messy due to the jar design. So I just scoop out a week's supply in a smaller container and keep the rest in the fridge since retinol tends to degrade with heat and sun.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Lash Out
gzheng 6/23/2007 1:25:00 PM
I got this after the reviews here and I am not disappointed. It does not clump, holds my curls well, and extends like it should. If I add more layers later, I don't need to comb my lashes out like with some other mascara.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Exact
gzheng 4/27/2007 4:31:00 PM
This is a great buy. I definitely wouldn't waste my money on some of the more expensive mascaras when this works so well. It looks so natural and doesn't clump up like some other brands. Because it extends more than thickens, it's great for a natural day look. I can also play with it and put multiple layers on for days when I want thicker lashes (or use a primer). Although it's not water proof, I have gone for an entire day without smudging while some water proof ones smudge easily (due to oils from the eyelid I'm guessing).

Moisturizers -Aveeno - Ultra-Calming Daily Moisturizer SPF 15
gzheng 4/27/2007 4:27:00 PM
This is a mediocre moisturizer that isn't even moisturizing enough. I even had dry flakes from it. I didn't notice any calming effect for my skin as it often gets small red bumps (not pimples) if I use the wrong products. The fragrance in there is a big no-no for sensitive skin. I'm suspect that some of the red bumps I got might be due to it because I don't have anymore of them a few months after I stopped using this.

Eye Makeup Remover -Estee Lauder - Gentle Eye Makeup Remover
gzheng 4/27/2007 4:20:00 PM
It's supposed to be gentle right? Not. It stung my eyes so badly, so I can't say how good it could be for the skin around my eyes. I had to use it ever so carefully on the lids only. I didn't dare use this to remove eyeliner anymore.

Treatments (Eye) -Kiehls - Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado
gzheng 4/27/2007 4:10:00 PM
This is a good emollient eye cream that's good for winter and night time. I do use it during the day as well although some find it too heavy for the day. I only use a very small amount, rub it in my hands until it reaches a lotion-like texture instead of the original cream (the SA make it seem like some miracle that this occurs, but it's really just because the shea butter is solid at room temp. and so it thickens the cream but when you rub it, the heat of the fingers melts it so it's more fluid). When I get dry lines around my eyes, this takes care of it very well. So unless I find a better eye cream, this is what I'll stick with.

Deodorants -Alba Botanica - Clear Enzyme Deodorant Stick
gzheng 4/27/2007 1:17:00 AM
The only good thing about it is that I liked the smell (I bought the unscented, but it has a natural oil scent maybe from the coriander oil). On to the complaints: This made me feel gross and dirty because it was so sticky after I put it on. You know that feeling when you press sweaty skin together tightly and then peel it away kind of feeling? That's how it felt just after applying and lasted for as long as it was on me. It also made me stink within 2 hours of showering even without any sweating.

Deodorants -Kiss My Face - Liquid Rock Deodorant
gzheng 4/27/2007 1:11:00 AM
This is the best deodorant I've tried so far. It works really well even when I sweat a lot and wasn't able to shower that night (I know I know, circumstances had me there) and I didn't stink at all even till the next day when I did get access to showers. Another great thing about this product is that it's not sticky, unlike the Alba one that I used that felt gross and made me stink after just 2 hours when I normally wouldn't. The only minor issue is that I have to let it dry before I put clothes on, but that's hardly a problem because I put it on right after the shower and then lather myself with lotion, so by the time I'm done with that it's already dry. Definitely a good buy.

Eye Shadow -Annabelle - Eyedust-Chiffon
gzheng 8/14/2006 1:22:00 PM
This is a gorgeous colour a little like champagne but more golden. I find their staying power great if I apply it with a wet brush. I pour a little on my hand and blend it with a wet brush and the colour really shows. I would use this with a slant eyeliner brush for my lower lids and they give a shimmery watery look. awesome product in spite of the hard to manage lid.

Treatments (Eye) -Kiehls - Abyssine Eye Cream
gzheng 7/27/2006 2:13:00 AM
I'm not entirely sure of what this has done to my eye area after using it for almost two months now both morning and night. I seem to see my dark circles lightening (though still there) but that may be wishful thinking. As for the hydrating effects, it isn't as hydrating as Kiehl's avocado eye cream. What I dislike about this one is the texture: I was told to use a small amount (maybe the size of a grain of rice, which is tiny compared to the half pea size I was told to use for other eye creams). However, with this little amount, it was hard to spread it consistently all over the eye area (the SA said to dab, not rub it in)

Moisturizers -Kiehls - Lycopene Facial Moisturizing Lotion [DISCONTINUED]
gzheng 7/27/2006 2:05:00 AM
This did as it promised, it really did moisturize my skin and got rid of the flakiness I had due to lack of moisture. I don't know how much effect the lycopene actually has on my skin but I suppose it's good for it. As for the smell, I really don't like it so much, but it doesn't really affect me too much as long as I didn't apply it directly under my nose. Although a mere 50mL bottle costs $50, not much had to be used each time, probably only 1/4 of what I would use with other moisturizers. Texture was a little sticky but overall a good moisturizer

Treatments (Eye) -Vichy - Oligo 25 eye treatment stick
gzheng 7/27/2006 2:01:00 AM
I have to admit it did feel very good the moment I slide it on my lids, but there really wasn't much effect afterwards. It turned into water after it is applied. The packaging wasn't all that great either since when the product ran low (a mere 4 mL), I can't get the remaining 1/5 of the stuff out.

Treatments (Eye) -Origins - No Puffery
gzheng 7/27/2006 1:57:00 AM
This promised more than it did. It says it will remove chronic puffiness in 30 days. I applied religiously for the full 30 days and even beyond that, but see no difference. It does however feel very cool and can probably temporarily relieve early morning puffiness by a bit. But I suppose any cooling eye gel would do the trick as well. Packaging was simple but convenient--sanitary for one.
