Mascara -Tweezerman - Fast Lash
rated 4 of 5
chickadee1351 8/16/2004 8:37:00 PM

Ok here's my take on this new product. I took it for a test drive this afternoon when I got it in the mail from a Tweezerman online supplier. It looks like a normal mascara at first glance, except it's actually a little smaller which is nice. I followed the instructions and applied my Definicils first, then slowly pulled out the wand. Even as slowly as I pulled it out I saw a cloud of white fluff fibers float up. The wand looks like it's been dipped and rolled in fluff. I took the wand and tipped the edge of my outer lashes and then worked my way in. I was very concerned b/c a huge clump of fuzz was sitting on my lashes. I wanted to brush it away but then I remembered what an earlier MUAer had said, and made sure to keep my eye partially open but not too look up, and avoid touching the fibers. I put on a second coat of mascara, skeptical that this would actually look like lashes. I applied mascara and it's the weirdest thing, but it worked. The fibers kinda shrunk into place when they came into contact with the mascara. And I was able to stroke the whole length of my lashes twice. I half expected the "lashes" to come off but they didn't. While it doesn't give you false eyelashes (honestly, does any mascara do this anyway? ) it does extend the length. I would have to say the most important factor is the mascara you use. The newer and fresher and ever wetter the formula the better. I used a small GWP sized Lancome Definicils, which I think has started to dry out. But I am in the middle of a swap for Lancome Hypnose and I've tried that and the formula stays very lush. I will try applying a third coat of mascara, then another layer of Fast Lash fuzzies, then a final coat of mascara..and see if the results double. Amazingly, I didn't get any fluff in my eye and there didn't appear to be any on my cheek. I recommend putting it on while leaning over the sink so any spare fibers (and there will be tons)will not float and land on everything. I had to be super careful to make sure i was directly over the sink. Otherwise I would get a shocker in the morning when I found an unusually "fuzzy" toothbrush :P UPDATE: I just jumped in the shower and washed my face like normal. When I got out and peered in the mirror I was expecting to find little fluffs hanging around. Not a trace. Just completely clean lashes. If anything, that looked conditioned. Could it be?? I am amazed at this product so far. I will update tomorrow once I have a chance to double the coats.

Pressed Powders -BeneFit Cosmetics - Perfumed Powder
rated 5 of 5
chickadee1351 8/16/2004 3:22:00 PM

This compact it TOOoo cute for words. It is smaller than I expected but I think that's what gives this compact it's charm. It's about the size of a walnut but as thin and flat as an eyeshadow container (like the singles Maybelline makes) and it has a cute black latch. "Maybe Baby" is spelled out in cursive in a pink shimmery ink on the lid. The pressed powder is a lovely angelic nude with the *teeniest* hint of shimmer. You don't even see the shimmer once applied, unless you were to hold your arm about an inch from your face and concentrate intensely for a minute. The pressed powder is velvety soft and blends away so you can't even see it. And since it's pressed it doesn't make a mess all over the compact or migrate from the compact to your shirt, table, floor...you get the idea. To apply, I simply swipe one finger over the surface and apply to my wrists, back of neck, and behind my ears, swiping only a few times altogether. I can instantly smell the fresh sweet scent that makes "Maybe Baby" so well-loved. The top/middle notes are Apricot, White Ginger, Fresh Water Blossoms, Himalayan Poppy, Warm Peach. And there is no dry-down with this powder, which is a huge plus b/c for some the dry-down of the perfume turned stomachs. You can ONLY get this little gem at Sephora for $12 (now we're talking girls!), or on Swap and possibly Ebay. According to the website, " Now you can dust the soft, playful scent of Maybe Baby anywhere you dare, thanks to this compact filled with luxuriously scented, pressed powder. " My final take : It's a cinch to dust it on your decolletage (snazzy word eh?), shoulders, neck, wrist or wherever you want the sparkling, flirtatious scent of "Maybe Baby" , even while on the go. It's tiny and descreet and super easy to port around in your handbag or cosmetic bag and it smells heavenly. BONUS > The boyfriend LUVS it :)

Crème -MAC - Studio Tech
rated 4 of 5
chickadee1351 8/15/2004 4:46:00 PM

I am on my third compact of Studio Tech. I love the fact that they offer super light shades for us fair femmes. I wear NW15 and it's an amazing foundation, it actually has water and other emollients in it, so you can feel the moist cooling effect as you put it on. I love the fact that the compact is designed to have a separate bottom portion to store the makeup sponge, keeps it cleaner. That said, the MA at the counter the other day told me to throw out the sponge. She said you end up wasting too much foundation b/c it gets absorbed into the sponge. She suggested a foundation brush, lightly dampened, for a perfect flawless look on the skin. The brushes go for $30+ so I passed on it but I've heard that more and more so I may try to find an imitation brush that isn't so pricy. But anyhow, this is amazing foundation, a little pricey at almost $28 but well worth it b/c it covers like a dream, whether you want a sheer finish or a more deeper coverage. I also like that it feels so silky when you glide it on and never looks cakey on the face. I used to wear L'Oreal Light-Softening Makeup but MAC is soooo much better. This is now a staple for me.

Fragrance -Abercrombie & Fitch - 'Fierce'
rated 4 of 5
chickadee1351 8/15/2004 4:39:00 PM

Have you have ever wandered around an Abercrombie store and noticed a scent wafting about or detected a fresh unique scent on newly-bought clothes from Abercrombie, and kept thinking to your self, what is that? That, my friend, is their signature scent, Fierce. Fierce is a men's cologne but I find it just as sexy for a woman. Even the cute sales boys and girls agree that it tends to be a very unisex fragrance. I have shopped in the store for ages and have always wondered what the scent was. I would go around sniffing all the perfume samples in the store with no success. Then one day I happened to ask a sales girl if she knew what the scent I would continue to smell every time I came into the store, and she said it was Fierce. She led me to the sample bottle and I spritzed my wrist with it. The first thing I noticed was a very strong and peppery/musky note. It was a man's cologne, afterall, but that first note almost scared me off and led me to believe this wasn't the right scent. But I decided to have faith in the sales girl and left the store to wander around the mall a bit. After about 15 mins or so the scent had dried down to the more recognizable gentle woodsy scent that I had been coveting for quite some time. I was sooo happy to have finally found it. And to think that if I hadn't tried it on and give it some time, I would have assumed it was some other scent after spraying and I would have abandonded it for sure. I'm not sure what the notes in the dry down are but it's a very calming and clean blend. I'd recommend trying it if you love the way the store smells and find the aroma alluring and intoxicating as I do. I'd also suggest spritzing the air just once and stepping through. Because it's a men's cologne it tends to be stronger so you only need a little bit, and if applied directly to the skin, it's going to be way too much for anyone up close. The best thing about Fierce though, is that it has amazing staying power. Just when you think it's gone, you do a brisk movement of your arm and you catch a hint of the scent. It's a comfort scent for me and I'm proud to say this is my new girlie addiction. Try it for yourself.

Fragrances -Demeter - Orange Cremecicle
rated 5 of 5
chickadee1351 6/5/2004 4:42:00 PM

I LUV LUV LUV this stuff. As everyone has already said, it smells EXACTLY like an orange cremeSicle pop. The only difference is they spell it differently. Honestly, you get both the sweet orange aroma with a creamy vanilla mixed in, making you crave one of the creamy dessert bars of it's namesake. Blends wonderfully and still smells just as delicious upon drydown. I have no idea how they can manage to recreate a fragrance as yummy as this with no problems, unlike some of the duds Demeter came up with, but I'm soooo hooked on this one. I purposely spritzed it on the edges of my hair, near my neck so I could get an upclose and personal review of it. It's still there as we speak, and I applied it over 2 hrs ago!! This is my first Dememeter but it sounds like some of the newer scents (Cotton Candy, Cremecicle) have longer lasting power. I tried the Calming Lotion in this too and it smells the exact same, not like some other designers which seem to have trouble mimicking the fragrance throughout the line. YUM!! UPDATE : When using Demeter, it's best to spray it the ends of your hair. Why you ask? Because Demeter's need something to cling onto, otherwise they fade away quickly. I noticed that when i spray just my neck or wrist, the yummy smell disappears sooner. But if I lightly spray the outer inside layer of my hair or up near the collar of my shirt, the fragrance lasts and lasts.

Fragrances -Lancome - Lolli Pôp
rated 4 of 5
chickadee1351 6/5/2004 4:15:00 PM

Lancome describes Lolli Pop as a fresh and fruity blend of wild pear, juicy plum and raspberry notes. I definitely think it's very unique. I have Escada Ibiza Hippie and I've smelled Fruit Punch and Island Kiss, and Lolli Pop is not like them. It's a softer more floral version of a fruity scent. The drydown is light and summery and I kept sniffing my wrist and it was still there. It comes out in a firm spray so i would recommend sprayin it in front of you and dancing into the mist. I think it's very fresh and fruity and the bottle is a lovely rainbow-hued glass bottle. Most scents give me a headache or nauseate me but this one is so light and fresh, only those who are up close enough can enjoy it. I hate when people wear perfume that's so strong that you instantly sniff the air and try to spot the source of the perfume overdoser. Hehe. But the best thing to do is stop by the Lancome counter, they have adorable little lolli-pop shaped fragrance paper-testers :)

Lip Gloss -Lancome - Juicy Tubes Pop ~ Raspberry Ice
rated 4 of 5
chickadee1351 6/5/2004 3:38:00 PM

I love this stuff!! I stopped by the Lancome counter and binged on the new collection. I tried the Juicy Tubes Pop in Raspberry Ice and Energizing Melon. I luv luv luv the Raspberry Ice...in this tube it's this soft pastel watermelon shade and you can see irridescent golden shimmer. When applied on my lips I get a glowy wet pinky lip and the golden shimmer transforms on your lips to make your lips look decadent. It's not the typical clear, it's so much more. It's very hard to explain, you have to try it for yourself. But the best part...and i have to disagree with some of the other reviewers who described it as bubblegum/same old scent, is actually a yummy orange lollipop. this is much yummier than prev JT's. That's even what the MA in Nordies said, it's supposed to smell like lollipops, hence the name of the collection. And yes, you can taste it...YUMMY. I think that I LUV this just because of the orange lolly taste. Combined with my Demeter Orange Cremecicle, I'll feel just downright edible :P UPDATE: I tried a few of the other JT's from the Juicy Pop Collection and they are not all the same!!! Some of them are creamier and therefore less shiny, and feel different on the lips. You can compare them side by side. But b/c they are creamier, they also have more lasting power and pigmnent. The Raspberry Ice is much thinner and shinier than some of the others in the collection. And they all don't smell the same, I noticed the orange lolly taste was more noticeable in the Raspberry Ice.

Lip Gloss -Stila - Fruit Punch Lip Glaze
rated 3 of 5
chickadee1351 5/31/2004 1:05:00 PM

I just bought a lot of 4 new or tested once Stila lipglazes from Ebay. I couldn't see spending close to $30 a pop for one of theses suckers. Instead I got 4 of them for $40, which is a great deal. I tried the Fruit Punch one today for work. In the tube it looks like a tropical strawberry pink. On my fairly pigmented lips, Fruit Punch shows up as a glossy clear glaze w/ a slight fruit-punced colored tint...like you have been sucking on an ice pop....makes my lips look amazing plump and juicy. As for the scent, it reminds me of a fruit LifeSaver, but not too strong. The glosses are a little sticky but not JuicyTube slick so I liked it. The click pen take about 4 or 5 clicks...and you have to wait...if you click too soon you might end up with gobs spewing out the brush-tip. Overall, a nice fruity-toned sheer gloss but i would buy it discounted, not full price.

Lip Gloss -Stila - Elle Pink Lip Glaze (from Legally Blonde)

I just bought a lot of 4 new or tested once Stila lipglazes from Ebay. I couldn't see spending close to $30 a pop for one of theses suckers. Instead I got 4 of them for $40, which is a great deal. I tried the Elle Pink one today for work. In the tube it looks like a soft rosy-pink...but it shows up on lips a very light pink, virtually clear. The pink that does show up is a slightly bubblegummy pink. It has a distinct peppermint scent, which isn't bad, but I've grown quite accustomed to the sweet scent that Apricot had and I just assumed this one would have a nice smell as well. The glosses are a little sticky but not JuicyTube slick so I liked it. The click pen take about 4 or 5 clicks...and you have to wait...if you click too soon you might end up with gobs spewing out the brush-tip. Overall, a nice pink gloss but i would buy it discounted, not full price..

Lip Gloss -Neutrogena - MoistureShine Lipgloss in First Blush [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
chickadee1351 5/25/2004 11:38:00 AM

I am so glad I tried this color b/c it looked kinda blah in the tube...but it looks beautiful on lips. It's the ultimate YLBB color, like a warmer rosier version of your lips. It looks glossy and isn't sticky, feels light and moisturizing. In fact, normally I apply LipMedex before applying any lipgloss, but I didn't need to with this. I wear it solo on it's own. And unlike others I actually like the synthetic berry scent..it's definitely fake-smelling but i'd take that scent over the nasty clinique glosses, all chemically and stuff. And it really does apply nicely. The only gripe is that the top of the tube can get gunked up when you push and pull the wand. But I simply clean it with a wet papertowell every few weeks.

Lip Gloss -Stila - Apricot Lip Glaze

chickadee1351 5/25/2004 11:11:00 AM

I just bought a lot of 4 new or tested once Stila lipglazes from Ebay. I couldn't see spending close to $30 a pop for one of theses suckers. Instead I got 4 of them for $40, which is a great deal. I tried the Apricot one today for work. In the tube it looks like a peachy-nude w/ a hint of pink and there is some shimmer...but it does not show up on the lips. In fact, on my fairly pigmented lips, Apricot only shows up as a glossy clear glaze...makes my lips fuller but it's basically clear. It has a yummy sweet (cotton-candy?)scent to it, which I liked. The glosses are a little sticky but not JuicyTube slick so I liked it. The click pen take about 4 or 5 clicks...and you have to wait...if you click too soon you might end up with gobs spewing out the brush-tip. Overall, a nice clear gloss but i would buy it discounted, not full price...... UPDATE I've never had an apricot before so i don't know what they smell like, but this definitely smells more citrusy than cotton-candy as i first described. It smells like a grapefruit to me. Mmmmmm. UPDATE I like it when you can just open a lip gloss, swipe your top and bottom lip and TA-DA, you're done. I don't like CLICK, CLICK...wait a min, nothing..then CLICK...wait a min, still nothing..then CLICK once more..then," AAAAAAHHHH, where's a tissue???? " Seriously, there is no system to these, I think its not worth it for the money and amount of product. I found a new lip gloss to help ease me through the transition of giving up on Stila lipglazes. It's a brand new JT from Lancome's from Juicy Pop collection and the improved formulat delivers the same shine as the Stila lipglazes, along with a yummy orange lolly scent AND taste. I've convinced myself to forget all about STILA lipglazes from this day forth.

Lip Gloss -Almay - Whipped Gloss -Shimmering Roses
rated 3 of 5
chickadee1351 5/17/2004 12:14:00 PM

The only thing I didn't like about this gloss was the color. I like the cute little brush on design versus normal wand glosses. And I liked the subtle peppermint smell/taste. I even liked the glossy shine and the consistency. However, the color was too punchy pink for me...it looked like a ripe bronzy berry color in the tube but ending up bright raspberry pink. I didn't like it at all.

I tried this in Nordie's and although it left a pretty sheen on my skin, it wasn't that noticeable. I get the exact same effect with Benefit and the sparkles don't land everywhere. I also didn't like the fact that it cost $35 a pop for these suckers. Definitely not worth it IMO.

Eye Shadow -Clinique - Touch Tint for Eyes - Nude Sparkle [DISCONTINUED]
rated 2 of 5
chickadee1351 5/17/2004 12:02:00 PM

I took a tour of Nordies cosmetics on the hunt for some new spring finds and ending up trying some touch tints. I had heard good things about them....i was not impressed at all. even the lightest shade, Nude Sparkle, vanished and left my lids looking dirty..and the things creased like mad...and when it came time to come off, the makeup removed they used did not work. I like staying power but NOT makeup that won't come off with remover!?! For the money, these are not worth it. I don't like the fact that you have to apply to your finger either..very gooey and messy and they don't convert to a powder so they end up feeling heavy on your lids and look that way too. I would not try this again.
